Things I Wish I'd Known Before Starting The Curly Girl Method

Things I Wish I'd Known Before Starting The Curly Girl Method

I'm going to list 5 things I wish I knew before I started the CGM!

To spend time on technique instead of tons of products. I wish that in the first few weeks I had focused on how I apply the products you already have and how that's affecting your results, as opposed to buying different ones.

That I didn't have to have perfect curls and refresh my hair everyday. Instead I should've play around with different hairstyles that showcase the sections of hair that I was happy with.

I didn't have to follow the same techniques and routines as people I saw online. It would have been better to get inspo, and go from there.

I wish I had gotten a cut just before or at the start of my CG journey! I got a trim at about week 5, and it really helped the back layers of my hair curl.

Have fun with it! It's not all about having AMAZING hair every day! Just live in the moment and love your hair how it is!

Being a good person is a choice. Don’t let people fool you into believing that truly good people never have bad thoughts, are never tempted by the easier path, by the low road, never mess up or act out selfishly. Never believe a person can be good without making a conscious effort.

Every single time you do something good, you’ve made a decision to make the world a little brighter.

Goodness is not an inherent trait, it is a choice. Keep making it! I see you, I’m proud of you, and I’m rooting for you!

How I Finally Got Volume In My Hair & Fought Flat Roots ONCE And FOR ALL

So, if you haven't checked out my tips for volume, I recommend doing that, but if you're here to find out my one tip, stick with me. When I wrote that I was just starting to get curls on the top of my head, but it was only today evening I truly realized what was holding me, or my hair back. Plopping. Yep, you heard it right. Plopping. It's not that plopping is bad- It's extremely convenient and a great way for your hair to dry faster- But when your hair is bunched up like that, it also gets pressed down causing the roots to flatten, and there's pretty much no coming back once that's gone. The fact that I have coarse, oily and low porosity hair may all have an impact in this, but for me it just doesn't work. When I stopped this I got immediate results, but I never realized just why until now. Instead of plopping, just micro-plop, it's that easy!

So, if this is something you are struggling with, I suggest avoiding it and seeing how much of a difference it makes.

Hope you all are having an amazing day, and remember, you're all beautiful!!

“I often have the fantasy that curly girls are mermaids who have had to adapt to life on dry land. We come from the sea. The ocean is in our blood. It sings through our heart and lungs, our skin and hair. Our curls require the nourishment only a watery environment can provide. Both ocean waves and curly hair are forces of nature that can't be tamed. We can only accept and admire their power and beauty.”- Lorraine Massey, Curly Girl

THE SECRET To Getting IMMEDIATE Results With The Curly Girl Method

The Curly Girl Method is something that varies so much from person to person. Some people get results after a few weeks, and some don't get them until 6 months later. I'm going to tell you the only secret you need to know to get immediate success.

I've broken this into 2 simple parts.

1. Research Research Research!

The first step to success is doing A LOT of research. This can be anything from products to techniques to routines. This step works even better if you do it before you start your CG journey so you have a solid plan!

2. DO NOT Research!

Now before you click off because of the MASSIVE contradiction, just hear me out. Once you've done all your research and have done a few wash days, you want to stop researching and watching videos. This is not just for the fun of it, it's vital so you can develop your own techniques instead of copying someone else. Do you catch my drift? I learnt this only about a month or two after starting the CGM. I was wondering why I didn't get volume and beautiful curls, and it was because I was copying other peoples routines. Once I forgot about that and just experimented, doing what I thought my hair would work best with, I got AMAZING results, specifically in regard to the application of products.

I hope this really helps you as much as it did for me!
