The ballroom scene from the Labyrinth ft. Billford
@sapphosscribe
Hello dear readers! Itās update day!!
Itās time to go into the Labyrinth! āØāØ
I was so excited with the new chapter that I read it to fast, I'm going to re-read it later, I just want to say that the way you describe conflict emotions and thoughts hit me deep, I really like your writing. I'm not sure if I can make a deep analysis right now, but I wanted to say that I'm really enjoying your history.
And OMG in the final piano scene, I just saw the song and couldn't stop thinking, "Not you planning to play love dream to the ex dream demon lol"
Always love to get compliments on my writing style mostly because Iām still settling in and feeling out my āauthorial voiceā which is a tricky thing to develop. Itās nice to see so many people commenting they like how I describe things and write emotion. š„°
Ford played the love dream and, really, wasnāt it all just a love dream for him until he woke up?
*Wide Awake by Katy Perry plays softly in the distance*
Fanart from ch. 29 incoming! @dontjinxit18 drew Bill getting a little too competitive over Candyland (Ford loves it though š)
I struggled with this one, but I really wanted to push through and draw this scene. I seriously cannot wait for the next chapter, and am very excited for Summerween. @sapphosscribe
Writing Advice For Fanfics or Novels
Hello, my dears! As requested by @ilay-snt I thought Iād share my writing process with you all! Iām going to split this post into two sections of general advice and then how I personally construct a story.
Disclaimer: Iām no professional by any means. Iām basing this solely off two creative writing classes I took in college and what I find to be personally helpful so if it doesnāt work for you, thatās totally fine! Everyone writes differently!
Write the story that you want to read. Not only will it keep you motivated to keep going but it frees you to try whatever you want without being worried how it will be received by others. As long as youāre happy with your work, thatās all that matters. Your audience will find you.
(Hello audience! *waves excitedly*)
This one might sound a little daunting, but it doesnāt need to be a lot or necessarily āeverydayā. Itās just a way to consistently practice, to help you find your author voice, and create a habit.
Writing everyday could be a poem or a paragraph or a whole chapter! Itās whatever you choose to make it just as long as you get something down. It doesnāt necessarily even need to be good. You can always go back and edit, but if you only write when inspiration strikes, you might never sit down to do it in the first place. Practice finding your way through the words to get at what you want, rather than waiting for the words to come to you.
If youāre REALLY really stuck. Then might I suggest you-.
As a chronic second-guesser, I canāt tell you how helpful it is to have someone read your story and help structure the plot. Iāve had a lot of instances where something Iād been struggling with for days was resolved by getting coffee with a friend and having them look at it with new eyes.
Get yourself a beta reader or just someone who has good taste whose opinion you trust to help you work out problems. Two heads are often better than one!
A lot of people like to limit it to reading authors you love and looking at the way they create stories, which is very helpful, but donāt neglect other forms of storytelling like movies and TV shows or even videogames! Think about what you like from your favorite things and why you like them.
As an example, one of my favorite pieces of media is the Mass Effect Trilogy. Mostly because it subverts the narrative of the Lone Hero archetype present in other franchises like Halo and Assassins Creed. The protagonist Shepard relies on their teammates abilities and support throughout the game to complete missions and eventually save the universe. Similarly, I like stories where thereās a cast of interesting and diverse characters surrounding the main protagonist who are essential to the plot.
Go dig through your own favorites and figure out what kind of characters you like, tropes you enjoy, and overarching themes that speak to you. From these, you can draw inspiration for your own stories and figure out what you want to write.
Writing doesnāt happen in a vacuum! If you feel like your inspiration is running dry or youāre in the middle of a block, go out and do things you enjoy or, better yet, try new things!
Be fully present in the moment and look at the world around you as if for the first time, talk to people you run into, or draw from your friends/family for inspiration. Thereās a whole world of possibility out there just waiting to be written down or reinterpreted. Donāt be afraid to take breaks and have fun! Writing should never become a chore!
Now that thatās out of the way, letās dig into my own personal process:
When I have an idea for a story, I try to do a rough outline first of the big plot points: the beginning, the middle, and the end, then fill in as much as I can in between.
My chapter outlines are never very well defined up until I reach the point where I sit down to write. Itās only then I begin to flesh out what I want to do. I take everything from the previous chapter and what I know is coming up to shape what needs to happen in the moment. I work better with flexibility so I can wander off the path a little rather than rushing from point A to point B.
Character sheets are probably the most important part of my writing. I like to give my characters as much agency as possible and allow them to steer the story rather than the story steering them. Unfortunately, the only way to accomplish this is to know them inside and out.
Most of my character sheets start with the basics: what does this character want more than anything, what do they actually need, and what do they fear. From there, I can identify their goals for the story and for each chapter, their personality traits, their likes and dislikes, how they respond to conflict, etc.
When Iām writing, the character sheets are my own personal holy book. If I canāt make them move around the scene anymore, a quick look at that will normally get me back on track.
Normally, I have a goal in mind (or several) I want to reach. Whether itās progressing the plot or just one characterās arc, I allow those goals to drive the action, then set the characters loose like rats in a maze.
Often, I try to think āwhat can go wrong here?ā and then how that character would react to the set backs or interact with each other based on that.
In a few cases, the characters just do what they want and then entirely new scenes develop I didnāt plot out beforehand from following after that instinct.
On the whole, I allow the characters A LOT of free will to shape the story while holding up the basic structure for them to work within and Iāve found it really makes the story come to life.
Generally, everyone Iāve met whoās a writer has something to say and the story is the medium for that. The most important thing when Iām writing and Iām buried neck deep in the twists and turns of the plot is to not forget why exactly Iām writing it in the first place. So I have a little manifesto of sorts at the top of my outline, only a couple sentences at most, that strips the entire story down to the one central idea Iām trying to convey or an overarching theme.
For example, if I had to sum up the central idea of House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune (Great book by the way, canāt recommend it enough) itās that true family accepts you for who you are and can come from unexpected places. Also, itās essential to stand up to unjust systems in defense of others.
I try to find my own my own theme like this to keep in sight for my story. So I donāt veer too far from the purpose of it.
Me this week and in the past. Once again, a big āthank youā to all my lovely artists who continue to inspire and delight me š„°āŗļø

Kind of out of pocket question, but I had it for weeks in my head.
I know it's too early for this, but I keep seeing the so called "Eventual Smut" tag before reading a chapter. But looking at your version of Bill it's really hard for me to see happening. Not bc I want it that much tbh, but how can a human phobic being that hates every inch of human body (not just his) get suddenly interested in it? Also I know Bill's relationship with his body is less than ideal, but are there no parts at all he likes about it? Like nothing? And also what about Ford? Is there anything in him physically he finds appealing or beautiful?
Or maybe I'm thinking too much into it and the tag is not valid anymore, I guess I'm just curious, but only got around to ask this now
⨠Hey, Hey! āØĀ
No out of pocket questions here!
The āeventual smutā tag definitely still applies š. When we reach that point, Iāll probably be updating tags again. Iāve been flying by the seat of my pants with those so far.
Regarding the rest of your question, I donāt think Bill is āhuman phobicā so much as he hates being reduced so vastly from the being of pure energy that he was to a mortal shell with constant needs and no magic when heās been firmly in control of everything around him for millennia. I think he mostly hates how weak and vulnerable that makes him more than anything else. Though heāll be getting used to being human sooner rather than later.
In terms of sexual attraction (and while tiptoeing around spoilers) I headcanon both Bill and Ford to be somewhere on the sapio/demisexual spectrum in the sense theyāre more attracted to intangible qualities in other people.
Bill, the last of his species whoās been roaming the multiverse for thousands of years, I think is most attracted to beings who are outcasts or have some āweirdā physical aspect. Also those who are particularly cunning, hedonistic, resourceful, intelligent, or just plain chaotic.
Ford, on the other hand, I think was largely uninterested in sex for most of his early life or saw it as a clinical/biological act that humans did to reproduce. It wasnāt until he developed a strong connection for the first time with Fiddleford that it really clicked for him. There were probably trysts in the thirty years he was in the multiverse with aliens who were intelligent, open minded, or experts in their field with a passion for their work (I think little Ford would have had a huge crush on Spock āŗļø) but these wouldnāt last long since he was always on the move.
Bill and Fordās current and past intimate relationship (in my opinion) is always rooted in their deep (sometimes obsessive) attraction to each otherās personalities and life experiences. Anything physical will always come from that.
To put it metaphorically, itās not one color in the picture Bill likes, itās the whole painting. I personally donāt think it would matter to Bill if Ford was an Euclydian, a Klingon, or a Space Whale.
Bill doesnāt love and want Ford because heās human, he wants him because heās Ford. And vice versa.
Hope this answered your question! Take care! š„°ā¤ļø

Enjoy your regular Sunday update, dear readers. Itās a good one! šš„°
GUYS GUYS GUYS!! @orpheuswasmineās posters are done and they are magnificent!! Thereās also a great character analysis to go with it!! Ahhhhh!!! šš
Expect an update tomorrow. I know youāve all been patiently waiting šš„°
I WAS GOING THROUGH SM BUT HERE THEY ARE !!! Took so long hope you all like them though !!!
This took me a while !!! And I can talk about the Bill vs Billy whole thing now š
Basically, how I read a Human Condition, itās practically this whole dichotomy of Bill vs Billy and no one is aware of it. Believing Bill can change is an act of believing Billy is there, believing Bill canāt change means Billy is dead.
Billy is the root of Billās empathy and change, or what Bill would call, the root of his weakness. Bill considers Billy weak and deadweight, something worth forgetting. In the first lines, we ever read from Billy in A Human Condition is, āJust fit inā.
In the beginning of the Billy storyline, he himself in a major contradiction to Billās own beliefs and self-worth. Billy is what everyone hopes to achieve in the end, but Billy died the day Bill destroyed their dimension⦠right? Yes and no šŗ
The remnants live on and begin to crack through ways that Bill has taken notice of, especially when heās with Mabel. Itās moments where he spends time with Mabel, I picture the hostile face shifting to a more softer and rounder face. Mabel brings out the best in him. Unknowingly the reason Billy returns. It isnāt just Mabel that brings the Billy side out. It could be objects of interest or of fear and even guilt. Objects of interest could be the silly straw or the spaghetti scene from the recent chapter. The fear and guilt of Billy is brought out by Ford when he chokes him out or when Bill wanders into the mind space Ford had locked up.
I have more to say about Billy, but man I gotta talk about Bill because I got so much to say about him.
Bill is a cheat, liar, and other say, a monster through and through. But Bill is simply a manifestation of survival and going against all of that he knew. The line in chapter 27, āYes. Iām completely cured. My irregularity will not affect my ability to fit in, your excellence.ā This is a lie that Bill said, this was an act of wanting to survive and protecting himself. This is also the point in the Billy storyline that Billy starts to identify himself with Bill and this is the same chapter where his mother and father starts to call him, Bill, as well.
This is the plantings seeds of Bill, that continue to thrive even after failing the very thing he was manifested for. He allowed not just himself but Billy to die. Itās only now they have another chance, but Bill believes heās the sole reason why they had survived for so long before. Billy is weak and can only bring in danger. This pathetic, weak, piece of him is holding him back, and yet it is something worth protecting just to survive.
We see Bill truest form through lines like, āBut Bill wasnāt weak. He was strong and he was smarter than all of them. They didnāt see it yet, but he could prove it! He only needed time. He wouldnāt be a burden, he would be a credit to all triangles, like his parents had said. He was different than other irregulars. He was better.ā
But the next line is, āBecause Bill was weak in the eyes of Euclydia. He was a freak, an irregular. He was made wrong. And yet. Bill wanted to live.ā
Bill is a manifestation of wanting to survive and not letting anyone in. Even in this weak human form, that motivation drives home. He is protecting not himself but Billy as well.
I imagine if you were to enter Billās mind, it would be this split down the middle where Bill and Billy are seprated, but both of them have a piece of each other. Bill with a younger and triangle Billy, while good old human Billy is trapped with a more familiar triangle Bill.
Hereās pictures without the word š¼
Thatās how read Bill and Billyās storyline and interpreted it. The drawings showcase them and in their own spaces. I like to think Bill is in the darkest part and only he and Billy illuminate the space. I gave him crazy long hair that would be everywhere since he is everywhere and because having long hair is great, but such a pain to try and maintain and take care of.
Billy looks the most like Billās human form, since he practically accepted this and the only artical of clothing heās wearing is the sweater Mabel has gifted them. Heās in the brighter and hopeful side since he holds all the good parts. Heās just trapped with a piece of Bill, still trying to guard him.
Canāt wait to see what A Human Condition has in store and Iāll probably continus on with this theory/headcanon š I actually have some headcanons about Bill and Billy, but idk if anyone wants to hear allat š
@sapphosscribe AGAIN, youāre such a talented writer! Got me thinking and all š canāt wait to see what you have been cooking up š¼
Itās here! Thank you for your patience! Editing this took FOREVER, but now itās here for your reading pleasure. Enjoy! š
