Two art games Splickedy and I sometimes play when we’re very very bored.

There are all sorts of different twists you can do with these—in the first one, you can pick characters by spinning a pencil, drawing pieces of paper from a cup, etc.  But so far dice have yielded the best results.  And you can make names by making anagrams out of words that describe them, etc. etc.

Tumblr, We Need You! A Rogue Arizona State Representative, John Kavanagh, Wants To Pass A Bill That

Tumblr, we need you! A rogue Arizona State representative, John Kavanagh, wants to pass a bill that would thow trans people in jail for using public restrooms. Anyone could be asked for I.D. to “prove” their gender, and if there’s a discrepancy they could face a fine or jailtime.

When asked why the bill targeted trans people, Kavanagh explained that it’s because he thinks “they’re weird.” Outrageous.

We can stop this bill by taking action at www.allout.org/arizona and spreading the word far and wide. Will you help?

The year Hogwarts reopens

The Great Hall is quiet when the first years come in. They are watched by everyone else, but even the young ones can see gaps in the tables, and they knew it was from the students who would never come back.

The hat does not just sing about the houses this year. It tells a tale of the Hufflepuffs who lay down their lives, smart Ravenclaws who used every trick they knew, cunning Slytherins who protected the young from a war and brave Gryffindors who fought alongside them all.

One by one the first years were sorted, and they slowly filled the gaps in the table.

The headteacher stands, and before they eat, she reminds them all that houses only show your traits, not who you will turn out to be. And then she tells them that rules are changing. Houses are allowed - and should- mix during meals.

Nothing happens at first. But then a few stand up, mostly siblings, and they change tables. At first there is a strange silence but slowly the room relaxes and new friendships start to grow.

By the end of the first week, most people sit at different tables every meal.

By the end of the first term, the four tables are no longer separate. They are now pushed together into a giant square, so students can sit all together.

The teachers watch on, shocked it worked so well, but also pleased, because no child will ever be alone or feel out of place, and the friendships between houses finally looks the way the four founders always wanted it to be.

Scientists At MIT Have Developed A New Simulation That Traces 13 Billion Years Of Cosmic Evolution. They

Scientists at MIT have developed a new simulation that traces 13 billion years of cosmic evolution. They start the simulation shortly after the big bang with a region of space much smaller than the universe (a mere 350 million light years across).  Still, it’s big enough to follow the forces that helped create the galaxies we see today, and correctly predict the gas and metal content of those galaxies.

At first, we see dark matter clustering due to the force of gravity (first two GIFs). Then we see visible matter — blue for cool clouds of gas where galaxies form, red for more violent explosive galaxies (second two GIFs).

Super massive blackholes form, superheating the material around them, causing bright white explosions that enrich the space between galaxies with warm but sparse gas (fifth GIF).

Different elements (represented by different colors in the sixth GIF) are spread through the universe.

We arrive at a distribution of dark matter that looks similar to the one we see in our universe today (seventh GIF).

The simulation is so complex it would take two thousand years to render on a single desktop. And it’s kinda beautiful.

My First Shot At Creating A Sort Of Tutorial/guide, Telling How I Do Things. On This Initial Chapter

My first shot at creating a sort of tutorial/guide, telling how I do things. On this initial chapter we’re going over the handy matter of Hands. Not meaning to be an encyclopedic explanation, only showing my own methods and self-taught clues. Hoping somebody finds it useful! :3 I’ll do more if this one is received well. So let me know~

My thanks also to the supporters in my Patreon campaign, who helped me decide which themes to focus on for a start. And are actually allowing this to happen. :D Cheers!

Can you imagine the changes to the workforce and how we treated workers if no one HAD to work to survive?

Like often I see these complaints about a universal basic income that are like “well then no one would work!” and I think there are lots of people motivated to have more money even when they have enough to get by, but I also I think, that’s kind of true, if regular employment looked and functioned the way it does now.

But with UBI if both employers and society wanted people in certain jobs those jobs would have to offer more than just “you need us to survive”. They’d have to offer satisfaction and community and purpose.

Imagine the changes places like WalMart and McDonalds would have to make to how they run their enterprise if they had to woo and entice their employees into wanting to be there. Imagine the end of “the customer is always right”, both because employers know their workers won’t put up with and because consumers are forced to have a respect for workers choosing to do this with their time to make the community function when they don’t have to.

Imagine the progress to automation and technology now that we don’t have to worry about unemployment as a result. So instead of a store having 40 employees, they have 10 and automated self check out and price scanners and store apps you can pay on, and automated self-driving bots to keep inventory and restock at night. (And that’s when you don’t just order online, shopping in-store is now inherently a Boutique experience).

But those ten remaining employees are So Valued by the company, and so carefully educated and trained and respected as experts in what they do. People go “you could do that when you grow up, help people shop and find what they need and know what products are best for them.” And it wouldn’t be an insult like “you’ll wind up flipping burgers”, but instead a respected option “you can help people have warm fresh food in one of the oldest and most prestigious international groups in the world, and look at their travel programs and free clubs and classes” (McDonalds wins the Fast Food Mario Kart Tournament every year, their team is best in the nation and if you want a good esports program you work at McDonalds).

Evidence shows people would still work. Evidence shows people want to improve their situations and want to have structure in their lives. Evidence shows the only populations who take advantage of a UBI to not work are students who choose to focus more on their studies and new mothers, who choose to spend more time with their kids.

But it would increase the bargaining power and social power of the average employee by so much. They’d have the option to walk away. And employers would know it and consumers would know it and employees would know it. So if we wanted it to keep working, employers would have to start catering to their employees wellbeing and health and happiness as well as their wallet.

And it would be so good.
