this is my first post on this site, and:

do you know how much this feels like the first page of a sketchbook? this is the one that proves to you that you can be creative and great for the whole book, or if someone is looking at it: it’s their first impression of that part of you you channel through your art. it’s disgusting to see that go to waste by messing up a line, right? well, i did the maths. literally everyone is scared of doing it. no matter whether i see a masterpiece on someone’s first page, i know that the person who made it must have put so much thought and care into it. we all strive not only as creatives, but as humans, for perfection. but, we never attain it — that’s what brings us here, either finding an escape from our journeys on a blogging site, or trying to share our creativity with others.

explore the characters that were underutilised in canon (either that or they DIE too early)

worldbuild as the author, carving the tiniest of additional details and headcanons into the existing universe

learn about and use different creative writing techniques in an environment where there is no expectation for your work to be perfectly polished

reasons to write fanfiction (I'll start):

share a cool scene that popped into your head

evoke a particular emotion the canon makes you feel

song made you think of a character or idea from canon

make people feel the same way about a character you do

make dolls kiss for fun

explore ideas the canon hints at but doesn't do anything with

traumatize characters and make them suffer

coddle characters and let them rest

had an insane idea for a crack ship and now everyone needs to know

the author of the canon was wrong and must be fixed

use familiar characters to explore your own ideas and plotlines

canon is too short and you need to wallow in the universe of the story

many good indie video games start with a gender neutral character going down a hole (undertale, ultrakill, hollow knight, i probably missed some)

therefore, i will be throwing my nb friend into a well, producing an amazing game in the process

Obsessed with the trope of when the Heroic Sacrifice does not work.

When the character fails to heroically sacrifice themself and now has to face all the loved ones they were about to leave.

Or even worse, the character does sacrifice themself, but it doesn't fix the situation. So those left behind have to face not only the grief of losing them, but also knowing that it was in vain.
