It’s funny how people always imagine heroes to be a magic eraser of some kind; you want to have something to lull your doubts into silence? Heroes! Some hero is surely already on their way to save this woman pulled into a stranger’s car. That agency next block is definitely just now gearing up to help evacuate people out of that gigantic highway car wreck! A hero must have already snatched the most powerful drug’s formula from the hands of evil… right?
The silence, while not given enough time to grow painfully uncomfortable, wraps around the two like a veil as Izuku places both his hands flat on the table. He waits, lips pressed together as if thinking about what he’s been told, and after a moment passes, looks up so his eyes can meet Rody’s again. “Do you really believe that?” The question rings out nearly sorrowful, the boy’s intonation mixed with a worried look on his face. “I wouldn’t be here if that was the case. Sadly.”
At least the creative truth leaves this one thing without taking its claim on it: Izuku truly is unhappy about having to travel all the way here. It would be so much easier for him to just steal the formula from someone who has already retrieved it.
“I don’t think the police are going to be too helpful here, really, and every day matters. You know how they tend to be…”
He was a fool to think he could just walk away from this. Gray irises met green as Rody’s eyebrows furrowed in thought. Did he believe that?
Not really, no. He hadn’t seen any headlines about ‘Heroes Safely Secure Humarise’s Drug!’ Which seemed like a pretty important thing to tell the world, right? That they had nothing to worry about? He hated that the guy had a point. If he was here for it, then... it had to still be out there.
Rody knew exactly how the police were; he knew they wouldn’t be of much help, but recommended them to get the guy off his back. But that obviously didn’t work.
Sighing from where he now stood, he leaned forward, putting his hand on the table. “If I help you,” this was a bad idea, “how much are you willing to pay me?” Hey, he needed money. And maybe the idea of paying someone would steer the other away. If he kept going though, giving information and details wasn’t as bad as getting physically involved... Maybe. It’s not like Rody was gonna fly the green-haired guest over there himself. He wouldn’t go that far.

“I think that much is obvious based on our goodbyes in Otheon.” The fact of the matter was that getting his pilot’s license, or even enough spare cash, to fly to Japan would take some time.
“Don’t you want to see me?”
@rody-soul
“Rody…”
“Don’t you want to come see me?”
vsagis:
“So you’re admitting I was right?” Though it’s phrased like a question, down to the intonation even, the underlying sense is that he doesn’t really expect it to be answered. Nor he needs it; he can read between the lines well.
The next part comes easy, as it’s one Izuku knows best. Money is, after all, the best motivator there is. For most people, but that’s the beautiful thing in it all: it means that it works nine times out of ten.
“The world’s safety has no price,” the villain reassures in a light tone. For the persona he has created for this purpose, it may sound innocent enough: just another person relieved he is one step closer to ensure the good guys are going to win again. For the reality… the connexion doesn’t present itself as crystal clear. “I have been given an open account. You want five thousand, you get five thousand, that kind of stuff, you get the gist,” he finishes with a shrug, though a bit quieter this time. Better not to let anybody else hear that, or they might get some stupid ideas.
Not that he can’t handle a robbery, but there’s more important things right now.
“Wouldn’t get too cocky if I were you, still.” Logical, isn’t it? Say a wrong number, either too small and too high, and poof! Suspicion arises, and it’s all gone as if it were never there. “We can do half before, and half after.”
His eyes narrowed at that. Rody wasn't going to agree or disagree verbally. The guy had his attention, for now.
Rody practically mocked such a corny sentence in his mind. The world’s safety has no price. Yeah, sure, but how much are you willing to pay me for its safety? He did his best not to react in any particular way at the hypothetical amount that was stated.
Five thousand? He didn't even make that much in a month! Rody wasn't a truly greedy person. He always took what he could, would sometimes try to negotiate, but never pushed it. And if he ever was greedy, it was for good reason. He had two younger siblings to feed and take care of. Any amount helped.
And five thousand was an amount that would help him out immensely.
"Who says I'm getting cocky?" He retorted with a smirk. Even if the other backed out of the second half of the deal, twenty five hundred was still plenty, but of course it wasn't preferable if five thousand was possible. "I understand how this works. I respect it." Did Rody respect him though? That was a different question.
If he was in on this deal now, Rody was going to have to peek into that memory card with all the Humarise info on it that he should have turned in to the officials in retrospect just to make sure where this formula could be. “I don’t want to do any exchanging while on the job, ya know?” He kept his voice low. “You can give me half outside after my shift ends. Then we’ll meet outside again... tomorrow night? I’ll have what you need by then.” Rody stuck out his hand in classic deal-making fashion. “Do we have a deal?”
Pino flew back towards him with a loud chirp. It caused Rody to look up since she had only been flying around silently before. Something must have caught her attention.
Rody froze in place at the sight suddenly in front of him. His heart felt like it was going to leap out at any moment. He was so happy but so so worried at the same time. These emotions were stirring up within him and needed to be let out.
"..Izuku."
Rody prepared for the hug once he saw Deku take his first steps. Upon impact, he stumbled back a bit but kept them both up right nonetheless. His heart shattered at the sound and sight of Izuku sobbing. He quickly wrapped his arms around him, giving a tight, comforting squeeze.
It didn't take long for Rody to start tearing up, burying his face into the green mess of hair, holding him even closer.
"...Y-You had me worried sick..."
Izuku was tired. Exhausted, honestly. Physically, emotionally, and any other type of exhausted that existed. After Uraraka managed to convince the civilians to let him rest at U.A., the last of his adrenaline drained from him. He could barely stand, so it was no surprise when his male classmates lifted him into the air and carried him off to the bath.
Though, as he was being carted off, he managed to glance around at the familiar surroundings of the common area. Though he’d been away for nearly two months, it felt more like an entire year instead.
Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted an oddly familiar pink bird flying across the living room. There was no way, right...?
There was no way he was here...!
He was just hallucinating from exhaustion. That had to be it! Still, Izuku could feel his heart ache as he was pulled into the bathroom.
@rody-soul
At least he got a laugh back. Now they were even.
“Sorry, hero, but I’ve already got one.” He playfully nudged the shorter of the two, sending a wink his way. “Might wanna hurry and catch up.”
@rody-soul said:
"Maybe because you are one-" Rody mumbled real quietly, holding back a laugh. All tease, of course.
“Wha-?! Rody!” Izuku gasped, fake-offended. Unfortunately, his voice cracked over Rody’s name.
Hearing Deku compliment his hard work took him aback. Deku was always one to raise others up like that... It really did help one feel good about themselves.
“Ah geez...” Rody brought a hand up to rub the back of his neck, giving a cunning smile. Meanwhile on his shoulder, Pino looked shy as she fidgeted with her wings. “I guess I have been working pretty hard, huh? But still, your help made all the difference.”
Rody watched with admiration as Izuku smiled and talked. It was so nice to see him again. To talk in person. Sure, it had been a good while since he last saw Deku, but did the hero always get this red so easily? The hero’s voice getting louder, and saying such embarrassing words towards Rody, really threw him for a loop. After a pause, he couldn’t help but laugh.
“Aw man, Deku, you’re too much!” With such a red face and shouting something like that in a public space, how could Rody not think he was cute? He internally thanked his own quirk for not being able to say thoughts out loud, although Pino did fly over and settle on Deku’s green hair.
“Of course it’s fine! We got along so fast and went through so much in such a short time.. I didn’t want you to leave in the first place so.. Yeah, I missed you too.”
It took everything in Izuku not to start bouncing up and down where he was standing. He was waiting outside of Gate 15 for an incoming flight from Otheon. Finally, after seven long months of waiting, today was the day!
Rody was visiting him in Japan!
They had been planning this for months. Instead of spending his extra money on All Might merchandise, he focused all of it towards Rody’s travel expenses and anything they’d end up doing while together for the week. They had practically talked every other day ever since Rody had saved up money to buy a cell phone. They had learned a lot about each other in that time, and despite the long distance between them, Izuku still felt as if they were becoming closer than ever.
So, really... it wasn’t much of a surprise that this was the most excited he’d felt in a very long time.
As soon as he spotted Rody’s face, his eyes lit up as bright as the sun. He couldn’t help but rush forward and pull the other young man into a fierce hug. He could feel himself tearing up, but he managed to keep the tears at bay. He couldn’t keep the grin off of his face even if he tried to.
“I can’t believe you’re actually here right now!” he exclaimed with a cheerful laugh. “It’s so great to see you again, Rody!”

Rody knew fairly well himself that he wouldn't have been able to outrun the villain either. His parkour and running abilities wouldn't do him any good in a situation like this.
His grip tightened the moment they blasted forward. Even if he had prepared himself, the suddenness of the leap managed to catch him by surprise. Rody couldn't help but glance back and look at the damage the villain caused in their previous standing spot.
Holy crap. He shut his eyes tightly as the hero moved back and forth. This would all be over soon. They would get out of here. There was nothing to worry about.
With his sense of sight gone thank to his eyes being closed, Rody had noticed that the villain’s quirk gave the slightest audio cue. At the sound of the quirk being fired again, he couldn’t help but peek back.
The attack was coming quick. Was Bakugou aware of it? Was he going to dodge? Why was it taking longer than the previous times for him to move?
Out of instinct and panic, Rody's mind had decided that there was no other option.
He let go.
He kicked Bakugou away while doing so, making sure that they were both out of the line of fire. Without a doubt, falling from this height was scary, but Rody was hoping that he could cushion his landing well enough with his parkour knowledge.

It figured that he’d be stuck babysitting when a villain attacked. Now he had to get this extra out of harm’s way while taking out said villain. “‘course I got a fuckin’ plan, what kinda stupid-ass question is that?” He did not, in fact, have a plan at the moment, but he was working on one. At the moment, they were hunkered down waiting for a chance to move without getting blasted into pieces by their quirk. At least there weren’t any other civilians in the immediate area he had to worry about.
Flexing his fingers, tiny explosions crackled off in his palms. Their cover wouldn’t hold up forever; it was already starting to wear away under the constant assault. But as easy as it would be to just go out and start fighting them, the place was becoming structurally unsound. His explosions could make it collapse and crush them all--it was lucky that the villain wasn’t doing that already.
Crouching down, he glared over his shoulder at Rody. “Get on and hold on.” It was the best option for now.
Rody nodded in agreement. A whole new burst of happiness and excitement exuded from him all because he got to talk about his siblings. It was true! Life was really turning around for the better. He could thank Deku for that. For inspiring him.
"Hm?" He looked over with a curious smile, laughing as he was nudged. He was honestly flattered by the words. "Ha! You give me way too much credit. It's been a lot of hard work but it's definitely worth it." Rody took notice of the flush on Izuku's cheeks again. So this is what he was like when they weren't on the run and on the verge of death. He could get used to this.
Rody was glad they didn't have any trouble at customs. It was nerve-wrecking coming to another country, even if he was only here for visit. He was also thankful to have Deku beside him to help with the language barrier.
"Well..."
"Since it was a long flight, they did pass out meals. But, ya know, it was airplane food. I wouldn't mind an actual meal."
