honestly it is infinitely more funnier for me to imagine that nobody has ever perceived atsumu as cocky despite him trying so hard. like first meeting he gives people that hooded eye stare and makes a sassy comment but he forgets he's usually surrounded by great volleyball players so two seconds later he's staring at them from across the net all starry-eyed and vibrating with excitement. the people at his school regularly see him getting his ass beat by osamu and the only reason they let him do that hand gesture thing at matches is because he pouts for DAYS if he doesn't get his cool™ moment. he wants to be one of those senpais who command respect forcefully but kita asks him to be responsible and he gets so excited at seeing new faces anyway that he just pampers the fuck out of his juniors, gaining respect in a completely unintended way. he probably fails to bully kids on roblox because he's sensitive as fuck and complains to aran when anyone insults him. whenever he acts up suna threatens to post embarrassing pics of him. he's one-third of the idiot msby trio. he has somehow annoyed half the japan team and iwaizumi into adopting him. he's probably forced by osamu to dress as an onigiri mascot once a month to promote the restaurant. basically let miya atsumu be a himbo sunshine loved by everyone this man is a loser omfg.
"he didn't have any redeeming qualities" it's almost like.....that's the point. it's almost like a big part of his arc is literally that he's wandering around without a purpose, being cruel for the sake of it without even realising, as if he's desperately trying to prove himself to the whole world. it's almost like sieun himself recognised that which is why he couldn't bring himself to harm beomseok till the end. it's almost like he was mourning the loss of not one but TWO friends at the end. it's almost like being abused is a cycle that can easily tip a person into a pool of negative emotions which is incredibly hard to crawl out of. it's almost like a child will internalize the way they were treated and be incredibly insecure as a result. it's almost like jealousy stemming from inferiority will cause people to hate themselves more than anything and they'll project it onto others a lot of times. it's almost like beomseok's a fucking gray character not meant to fit into your classic tropes. if you want to hate simply for the sake of hating just go and read the damn webtoon. you can have your one dimensional characters and play with them.
nobody is denying that he fucked up royally, nor is anyone trying to provide a reasoning for it. we're simply being given an explanation of how his surroundings shaped him, how even if he escaped that pattern it was too little too late, and now he'll spend the rest of his life with crushing guilt on his shoulders. it's something real that occurs and it sucks for everyone involved and that is why it is MILES better than just using him as a blatant tool to move the plot along (which is what the webtoon did). you're still free to hate him but atleast watch the damn show properly.
“we need more complex male characters in korean dramas!!” you couldn’t even handle him.
People who hate Frodo Baggins are my enemy. "He didn't do anything and was useless"--yeah, okay, so what you're not understanding is that he was the sacrificial lamb. He endured physical, mental, and emotional torment that got worse and worse as his will broke. Everyone knew this. EVERYONE KNEW THIS. That's why everyone was devastated about it. Because Frodo was the most innocent among them, that was the entire point. He represented ordinary peaceful people being destroyed by the horrors of war. And as a hobbit he also represented some of the last vestiges of magic in what was basically a post magic apocalypse.
Frodo was basically an innocent puppy thrown into the Torment Nexus so that EVERYONE ELSE could maybe have a hope of surviving. And he did that willingly. HE DID IT OF HIS OWN FREE WILL, KNOWING IT WOULD RUIN HIM.
Frodo haters won't see the light of heaven
hualian is great but huaqing. ohhhh huaqing. two bastards with equally sharp tongues who will give as good as they get. but also if you dig a little deeper into their mutual dislike it's like. oh fuck they're so similar that it's easier for them to "hate" each other than admit the deeply ingrained insecurities they have.
i like the whole devoted aspect of hualian but if you shift canon a little and make it so that mu qing is the one who caught hong-er you get to see hua cheng watch someone who was born into the same situations as him, who was consistently ridiculed and treated as inferior, grow to be a fiercely powerful and loyal individual. it's not just god x devotee anymore, you've given it a raw humanizing aspect because mu qing CLAWED his way to where he is, and so did hua cheng.
even without changing canon you can see that hua cheng went down the path of surviving because gege became his reason FOR living, but mu qing has always been willing to keep himself and others afloat even as they kick and scream and beg to drown.
there's just this desperation mu qing carries in everything he does and to see that blend with hua cheng's uncaring or even disdainful attitude towards others is something that i think would be beautiful. like they balance out each other's most hidden and scarred parts so easily.
they're so similar yet so different it's like they're dancing around each other oh my fucking god i just. the parallels and possibilities huaqing has make me violently ill.
We all know that Jinx has her father's bangs and even some of his clothes
But can we talk about her having Sevika's makeup style?
She was definitely inspired
listen to me. i don't care what gege did or did not say NEVER talk some shit about gojo only being "actually" happy around geto in front of me. that man raised megumi by himself when he could have chosen not to. he frequently chased nanami around and teased him when he could have chosen to stop in the face of lackluster reactions. throughout the manga he had faith in his students, believing they would surpass him. part of gojo will always be alienated due to the structure of jujutsu society, and you are well within your rights to assume that geto was the most important person in his life, but do not undermine the people around him, the extent to which they cared for him, the trust that they placed in his plans, and the trust that HE placed in THEM to be able to carry out said plans.
just. just don't act like gojo's capacity to love started and ended with geto. that's fucked up.
vnc mikhael was subjected to horrifying abuse, and before the vampire of the blue moon (luna) rescued him, he did not have any idea of what a family was supposed to be. he simply clung to the nearest sane person he could at the time i.e. vanitas. once he did get a taste of "home", it was almost immediately snatched away from him. he is one who desperately wishes to find a place to belong (as seen by his insistence on returning things to how they used to be) and yet one who is forced to wander the world alone.
hsr mikhael, however, feels like someone born for greatness. adopted by legendary seafarers, discovered his passion for watchmaking while working as an apprentice, and ultimately joined the express to roam the world. the one true symbol of freedom. and yet, at the end, he chose to stay back in penacony, chose to bind himself to a planet because he was simply that desperate to save it. one who was destined to wander yet found a place to belong to.
both vnc mikhael and hsr mikhael have a close connection to the word "Father". vnc mikhael is attached to the word as a kid himself, using the term with affection for luna, showcasing that he is still stuck in childhood, still stuck in the early stages of his life unravelling on stage. hsr mikhael has moved from attaching the word to his father, his inspiration, and actually been bestowed the title "Father of Penacony" for himself. it signifies his story has run it's course, he has come full circle.
another thing is, their nicknames. misha. they both hold equally special positions in their own way. vnc mikhael is referred to as misha by luna, a loving nickname that has warmth connected to it. hsr mikhael has a fragment of his memories which form the misha we are familiar with, representing his childhood dreams. though both of them are different, they are also quite similar in the sense that the nicknames and the circumstances in which they are used carry a sweet, sweet innocence.
i dunno, as someone in both fandoms i was delighted by them sharing names and even appearances to a certain extent, and then even more intrigued by the parallels they share. i think they're very neat :)
