On Love Languages

How refreshing was it for Alberu, who lived his life being disrespected and ignored, to writhe in the fake-politeness of scammers, living beneath his third and second brothers, to fight so hard for respect-

To have his life then be manhandled into a position of power and have a guaranteed spot as the next in line for king, by a man who talks disrespectfully and becomes petulant at the slightest inconvenience

He’s not disrespectful because of Alberu’s political standing and he’s not whiny because he’s incompetent. He’s honest.

He’s disrespectful because- well, he’s just that way with everyone he’s comfortable with. If he acts respectful, it’s probably because he’s pretending in order to get something he wants.

He’s petulant, but only when it’s something that can be fixed. Oh your highness, can you pay my travel expenses? Oh your highness, can I have a gold plaque for my hard work?

The man wants money!

He’s not greedy for fame nor power, he doesn’t want a spot right next to the Crown Prince when he becomes king. He wants money, he wants to fix the problems that disturb his life, and he wants to be a slacker. The Crown Prince has all the resources to do those things! That’s his job. To create a peaceful kingdom that can still survive in war and chaos.

Cale just keeps dumping a bunch of resources on his head in order to do that.

Incessantly.

Like, he really doesn’t stop giving him information and allies.

Hah, but seriously.

He doesn’t stop.

He still hasn’t stopped.

Cale and Alberu are tools for each other. That’s their relationship. They use each other because what one person lacks, the other does not. Cale has information and connections, Alberu has influence and money.

It’s a ✨symbiotic relationship✨

but seriously though i’m sick and tired of those masterposts that are like “here! A reference site on Greek mythology for all your needs! Look it has all fifteen Greek gods on it!” And I’m like. tHERE WERE LIKE HUNDREDS OF FIGURES IN MYTHOLOGY YOUR CRAPPY HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL BIBLIOGRAPHY SITE MEANS NOTHING TO ME 

if you want a basic outline of Greek mythology okay sure fine??? but like. if you want an extensive fucking reference site you are looking in the wrong goddamn places

as a self-declared greek mythology snob my reference site is fucking always this fucker right here. almost every single figure ever mentioned in a Greek text is on it, it has the most obscure gods, spirits, nymphs– it’s GREAT. You really wanna extend your mythological knowledge past the basic 12 and like four others? USE THEOI.  plus plus PLUS everything is cited so you can actually read the source material written about whoever it is you’re looking at.

How to write romantic tension

Here are some of my best tips to write a romantic build-up! (I believe all of these are inspired by a couple in my current project, oops!) Happy Valentine’s to everyone!

💜 Disagreements

Nothing shouts romantic tension better than when one of the characters is annoyed by the other’s habits or opinions. Usually this stems from a personal issue, or even form knowing they’re attracted to the other person!

If character A smokes, character B could be annoyed at them because they used to smoke themselves, but subconsciously the complaints are just an excuse to keep the conversation going.

💜 Arm’s length

Try to keep your characters at an arm’s length from each other, and experiment with the tension you can create at a distance. This will make any closer moments MUCH more impactful.

If character A is usually polite and respectful of personal space, but in an emotional moment they lean a tad too close, that strikes character B much harder.

💜 The turning point

What is the point where it becomes obvious to your characters that they like each other? You don’t have to immediately seal this in a kiss or a confession. Play with how this knowledge subtly changes their behaviour with one another.

Character A may get progressively flirtier or bolder when they realize character B is completely accepting of their advances. They may start to do “coupley things”, like hand-holding, or subtle comfort touches, without even having to talk about “where they’re at.”

Every day I wake up thinking about how Cale's transition from hunk to twink is revolutionary.

Like, in other isekai, you get those plain dudes who turn into cute twinks sure, but it's instant. They transmigrate, and it's a new skin bag for them. They didn't earn that prettiness. They just up and died, and god decided to bless them.

Cale had to be lazy during war time and twinkify himself. He said god is useless, and he had to roll up his own sleeves for it.

I think that's powerful.

Magical items and cursed artefacts that are currently being used for something else than their intended purpose.

The cape of Infinite Wisdom, that gives you all the knowledge of the universe but unfortunately renders you incapable of doing anything else than stand there processing it, aware of everything everywhere all at once, which drowns out being aware of your surroundings. People use it to trap runaways and wild horses to capture them without injuring the target.

The Wrestling Machination, that was far too efficient in folding up flesh-and-blood human opponents, which was locked up for centuries before being stolen - presumably for horrifying uses. It was later found in secret use in a nearby laundromat, which uses it to neatly fold up clothing.

Potion of Shapeshifting, But Only Once. Not useful for intended purposes, but has more than once been concotioned and used by people who were utterly sick of human life and would rather spend the rest of their lives being a seagull.

The cursed amulet of No Woman Will Want To Fuck You, originally crafted as a wizard college prank, currently worn as the daily signature accessory of an astonishingly beautiful and unfathomably gay man, to ward off unwanted female attention.
