I see lots of fanfics that talk about the Grimwalker stories and myths as Grimwalkers being these predators that hunt witches and are these monster that feed off of flesh, but all of these are usually false and like I said just myths.

So what if that wasn’t the case? What if Grimwalkers were the flesh craving beasts everyone thinks they are. Aka me giving Hunter the Tokyo Ghoul treatment (kinda)

This image takes place during Thanks to Them, he’s hunting and consuming animals to sustain himself but they can only do so much. He keeps it a secret because he’s ashamed, scared and full of self loathing. Unfortunately you can only sneak out and wash your clothes so frequently until you get caught.

The craving flesh started around the time Hunter started hitting his second stage of puberty, so around 12 to 13 years old. It started off as spouts of aggression, weight loss and odd carvings that he suppressed until he eventually snapped and attacked a scout. Once he consumed flesh, there was no going back.

This happened with a few Grimwalkers, typically one made around pubescent years due to this being a natural development. Grimwalkers who are made as adults don’t get this since get miss that developmental period. A reason why Belos made Grimwalkers strictly adults for hundreds of years before trying out a new experiment.

When Belos made Hunter, he was aware of this and rather than kill Hunter off or just make an adult Grimwalker, he decided he can benefit from a “monster” needing a source of food.

Hence, Hunter picking up a reputation for being “feral.” Belos supplies Hunter with blood and flesh but not enough to satisfy him, just the minimum to keep him alive. This is to keep Hunter at a state where he’s willing to do more work to earn more food but unfortunately this just results in cases of Hunter going “too far” aka mauling different beings (witches, beasts, demons, ect) during missions on the accounts he’s literally starving and being triggered in fights.

He can eat normal food but his sense of taste is bit dull and doesn’t give him the nutrition he needs. He can eat and eat and it will do nothing. He learns to satisfy himself through eating animals he hunts during missions. When he gets to the human realm he eats his food with an overwhelming amount of seasoning just to taste it.

He also has a very strong jaw and sharp teeth, like hyena type stuff.

(Imagine a scenario he pauses a mission mid way to go hunt some voles and eat them raw and the scouts just standing there like-)

After Hollow mind Hunter struggles because now he’s has little source of witch or demon flesh (he raids the healing classes for blood and kitchen for uncooked meat)

So during thanks to them he’s forced to live with three witches, a basilisk, two humans who are somewhat similar to witches and oh boy he struggles. His friends are concerned. Camila notices Hunter eats a lot but still looks like he isn’t gaining weight, Gus notices that he sneaks out, Vee smells something wrong with him, Luz sees how on edge he is, Amity catches on to his burst of aggression (caused by hunger and stress) and Willow notices he avoids them.

They all already knows something is off with him (heightened senses, unusual teeth and jaw strength, glowing eyes, unusually tight and powerful muscles despite how gaunt he is) but only Luz knows he’s a grimwalker but hasn’t quite put the peices that’s he’s a unnatural, natural predator to witches and demons. The witches, Vee and even the humans feel a slight primal fear around Hunter but they can’t quite put the reason why, he puts them on edge even if they love him but something’s off.

Despite the fact that all of them are willing to give him blood, even some flesh if they could, the boy just refuses, since he sees himself as a literal monster that needs to be locked up.

This is me giving Hunter Grimwalker trauma x100. Anywho this is my late Halloween post aka my billionth AU idea. This was inspired by Tokyo Ghoul, Ginger snaps(2000) and the fic [redacted] Hunter by ApaMonkey on ao3! Yall should read it!

I have a weakness for flesh craving characters who aren’t villains but they aren’t so common so of course I had to project that love to my own skrunkly!

hello! out of curiosity, would it be possible for a witch with healing magic to let Hunter, i don’t know, bite a part of their hand off, and then just regenerate it with their magic? i’m not sure if that would defeat the plot of the au as Hunter would freely be able to chomp on someone, haha!

Actually they can! However it’s incredibly limiting. This method would only allow Hunter to get surface level meat. He also need organs, deep tissue, bone, ect. Also while healing magic can do all sorts of wonders and I’m sure could regenerate limbs and flesh depending on how talented the healer is. I doubt they would find someone genuine that’s would be willing to do such a thing and at a frequent rate, especially when he starts eating more and actually developing healthy eating habits. I’m sure one of his family members would be happy to do this but Hunter would never allow it. Id imagine it also be a much longer medical procedure than him simply being able to bite chunks out since that would literally him mutilating someone alive lol, even with the help of numbing or pain relief potions.

The amount of food shown would have been perfect for Hunter a few years ago but now with lots of love and healthy habits being put upon him, it’s no longer sustainable. But what healing witches can provide is blood!

Blood is a good alternative for when he’s unable to have meat so I’d imagine he’d be pretty stocked up on it. He gets frequent refills on blood, it’s also slightly more socially acceptable to have as I’d imagine blood being a regular part of some demons and those suffering from vampirism diets. I’d think most people would assume Hunter is a vampire if they don’t know about the grimwalker situation. So he takes blood bags with him on the go as food.

Of course he needs actual food and lots of it as he’s pretty malnourished and has lots of catching up to do. As well as developing healthy eating habits.

He eventually gets a pass that allows him to eat bits of bodies that aren’t being used, that where donated. So if a bunch of healer students are dissecting a cadaver, Hunter is cleanup. Or if organs are given for a transplant, Hunter could eat what wasn’t used. Obviously this disturbs Hunter but it’s better than going feral and attacking people. Of course it was a bit difficult to obtain pass but with the right strings pulled and some light threats, he was able to get it.

All these images are post canon in the Au. For the amount of pain and suffering inflected upon Hunter for the majority of this Au, I do want him to have a happy ending. While there are tragic alternatives, him having a happy ending was always my intention. While it be more difficult to reach than in canon, he gets there eventually :3

I am so incredibly curious about Luz's thought process about this scarred-up teenager who's actively hurting her friends. She seems very empathetic still in the post-finale art, but considering he seemingly succeeded in giving her friends sigils in the alternate Labyrinth Hunters art, is there ever a moment where she views him as completely unredeemable? Or is she still insistent that he's just being manipulated and can still be helped?

She definitely has her ups and downs in regards in how she feels on Hunter. In the start she didn’t like him (separate tides- hollow mind). She saw him as another Belos lackey or just a fancy scout. Bad but not evil. Once the sigil incident happened, she absolutely hated him, she was full of anger because he quite literally gave her friends stamps for slaughter(even if he didn’t know). However after King tide happens and she sees Hunter defending Belos even as the spell actively drags him down does she realize just how wrong it is, that he this loyal even when being killed.

He’s being killed by his only guardian and he doesn’t even know it

She tried to reason with him in the fight but he refused to listen, too desperate to stop them from fighting Belos and defending him even as Belos also swipes at him in blind anger. Escpically when she realizes that he’s is around her age and no child should ever be at this state.

I imagine during Thanks to them does she have some conversations with her mom since things are a bit more intense in the timeline and some conversations about abuse and abusive adults does she start making some connections but she still doesn’t quite like him.

Que for the final where Belos is finally gone, all that is left is the Golden guard in his broken, scarred state. She starts seeing the ugly picture for what it is, an abused child who just doing what he knew to make his guardian happy.

So, it’s both. She saw him as an unreadable monster to then someone who was abused and used. She wanted to help him even if she was still mad and he didn’t want it.

Of course once that wonderfully late redemption/recovery arc begins, does an actual friendship start to form.

Bard Hunter

What kind of instrument do you guys think Hunter would play?

I think about all the types of magic we never saw Hunter use in the show. Besides seeing some non specific staff magic like teleportation , creation and blast we only see him use magic that could be considered construction and have interest in potions but that’s it really.

This actually low key disappoints me because I know a boy like Hunter with such a interest in magic would know how to do so much and we didn’t get to see it. I can imagine all the original and bizarre ways he would use magic since I doubt many people has interest in teaching anything but the basics. Like yeah, he had an artificial staff but he still needs to know the spells like how we see him having to use flapjack for the first time in eclipse lake.

Oh well, that’s what we have fanfiction for

Anyways, while I don’t think Belos would care to much for Hunter to learn Bard magic as it would probably need to another artificial tool and there are other skills Hunter could learn instead.

I just think it’s fun to think about the Golden Guard or just Hunter whipping out an instrument and jamming out mid fight or for funsies.

I think Belos would have him learn some sort of church kind of instrument. Like one you could hear at a church or something in the 1600s.

Like a viol, lute, fiddle or recorder. Since these instruments are pretty old in origin and used in religious spaces which I think suits Belos.

I think Hunter would be good at this and would be commonly used in combat, I can imagine.

Now as for post-canon I can see Hunter learning a instrument as something new to learn. Even better if he can get waffles to turn into one.

I think he would be interested in some sort of string instruments.

I can imagine him vividly with a violin or lyre. Violin because I think they are very powerful intruments that can convey all sorts of tone and emotion and lyre due to the association with birds.

But yeah I love the idea of bard Hunter.

Ya know what, teen parentfies your Hunter

So y’all remember that grimwalker we see Belos possess briefly in the second or third episode of the finale. Well this is them as a baby before they grew and rotted into an adult. So after hollow mind, Hunter decides to run back to the castle and sneak in through a “secret” entrance which ends up being the lab where he unburies this baby. He decides no he will never be loyal to Belos again and takes the baby. Belos made this grimwalker around the time of eclipse lake just in case he needed to off Hunter. Belos can’t make a new grimwalker now due to having enough materials, he was just planning to harvest Hunter. (Specifically for the stone sleeper lungs)

Now with a baby as a new responsibility, rather then go to hexside. He makes the desperate choice to steal for his new baby and the rest shall be planned out.

Any ideas what to name this child (I love baby grimwalker stories so muchhhh)

I surprised that I haven’t seen much Shadow and Maddie stuff considering it brings in a potentially interesting dynamic of Vet/loving parent and Ex-lab animal/traumatized child. I’m definitely going to be exploring this concept further in the future cause I’m obsessed.
