nanami tells you he loves you for the first time when he knows you can't hear him. you've dozed off in the middle of your movie night...again, popcorn fallen to the floor and kernels scattered. which isn't much of a surprise to him. in fact, you fall asleep during almost every movie night. work has been hard on you lately and you just can't seem to stay awake long enough to finish a movie.

it doesn't annoy nanami either. he finds it quite endearing, really and often finds himself observing the pretty way your lashes fan across your face. how your lips do this cute little pouty thing that makes him want to kiss you. how sometimes you snore (but he'd never tell you he knows that). he can't get enough of you. it only confirms what he'd known only two weeks into dating.

he loves you

there are not many things in this world nanami fears, but he does fear scaring you off by falling too hard, and falling too fast. he does fear you not returning his feelings. and he even fears how intense this love he has for you is. but, he couldn't have avoided it if he tried. before he knew it, he was already smitten with you.

and it's still far too early for him to build up the courage to say these three little words to you when you're wide awake and able to respond (the most terrifying part to him), but he knows what he feels. that's one thing nanami is absolutely certain of.

so when you nuzzle further into his chest tonight, the noise of the television fades into the background for nanami, and he finds himself leaning down to press his lips to the crown of your head where he whispers, so so softly, "I love you."

a part of him wishes you'd hear it, surprise him by opening your eyes and smiling up at him. maybe tell him you love him, too. but your soft and even breaths tell him you're deep into dreamland.

'that's alright,' he thinks. because he's certain of his love for you, and he's sure that one day he'll be brave enough to tell you just how certain he is.

the floor creaks beneath your feet as you tiptoe across your bedroom, heart pounding in your chest.

your boyfriend, megumi, is crouched by the window, his lopsided grin making it impossible to stay mad at him for climbing the tree into your room—again.

“do you always have to make so much noise?” you whisper, grabbing his arm and yanking him inside.

“blame the tree branches,” he whispers back, brushing off imaginary leaves from his hoodie.

but before you can answer, the sound of heavy footsteps echoes in the hallway. your eyes widen.

“it’s my dad!” you hiss, shoving him toward the closet. he snickers but doesn’t argue, slipping inside just as the door handle turns.

you grab a random book from your desk and spin around, trying to look casual.

your dad steps in, his brow furrowed. “what are you doing?”

“just… reading,” you say, holding up the book. it’s upside down.

for one horrible moment, you’re sure he’s going to check the closet.

megumi’s cologne lingers faintly in the air, and you pray your dad won’t notice.

your dad squints, but he doesn’t seem to notice. his gaze sweeps the room, lingering on the window for a moment.

“keep it down,” he mutters before shutting the door behind him.

you don’t move until you hear his footsteps retreat. then you rush to the closet, yanking the door open.

megumi steps out, his crooked smile even wider now.

“you’re lucky i fit under there,” he teases, sitting back on his knees in front of you.

“you’re lucky he didn’t check,” you counter, but before you can say more, he cups your face with both hands, grinning like he just got away with a heist.

he leans in closer, his voice dropping to a playful murmur. “relax, baby. i’ve got stealth skills, remember?”

you roll your eyes. “stealth skills? you tripped on the way in.”

dumbass boyfriend! sukuna who is ridiculous when it comes to technology. just recently you bought him an ipad with a sim in it, and he seems to be using it just fine. maybe a little too fine, because one casual look at his screen-time made your eyes comically pop out.

seriously, does your boyfriend even sleep? when does he sleep? what is he doing when you're gone? after a very strict interrogation with your grumbling bumbling boyfriend, you find out that your dumbass boyfriend! sukuna has fallen down the rabbit hole of tv shows and movies. hulu, amazon prime, apple tv, netflix, you name it, he has an account on it. you can't even stay mad at him, it's not like you can always be at home with him and honestly? good on him for finding this way to spend his time.

but on the flip side, he is on his way to becoming a letterboxd elitist with the amount of content he's watched. and since he is the ryomen sukuna, he obviously has many colorful opinions about what he has watched. it's not like he's gonna be a raging film bro unless you introduce him to the app-

dumbass boyfriend! sukuna who is now raking in numbers and criticism solely based off his watched movies alone. he doesn't leave reviews often, but when he does he asks you to type it for him. during these moments, he calls you his scribe, cackling when you deliver a sharp smack! to his arm in response. or when you're not at home, he uses speech to text, which results in his reviews being awfully written and not at all proofread. somehow they are also the ones that do the best and end up as meme templates on twitter.

some people know of dumbass boyfriend! sukuna and his letterboxd account because of his twitter presence (that he's honestly abandoned out of his sheer fear disgust of the men who want to "touch him" and the women who want to "no lube no protection all night" him ever since he accidentally posted a picture of his feet). the people who don't know him however, are quick to cite him as a bot, saying there is no way that someone can watch this much content "even if they were unemployed." but how can you tell them that your dumbass boyfriend! sukuna is…not like other guys? literally.

dumbass boyfriend! sukuna who complains to you about his screen being dirty. it was bound to happen of course, his ridiculously big thumb-prints all over the screen, having never cleaned his ipad even once ever since purchase. so you casually mention that he needs to “clean it.” pretty simple right?

wrong. so wrong.

you wake up from your nap to the sound of clattering from the kitchen and your boyfriend nowhere in sight. you figured he woke up earlier than you to finish a show he was talking to you about (spoiler: the boys) and was making a snack for himself. you don't think much of it, ready to go back to sleep until you swore you heard the sound of sizzling. you know better than to leave your almost 7 foot boyfriend alone in your kitchen, and you rush to find your dumbass boyfriend! sukuna holding up a bar of dish soap. against his ipad screen.

“'kuna, what are you doing?”

“you told me to clean this device.”

“not like that!”

needless to say you spent a good one hour on call with apple care's customer support, all while dumbass boyfriend! sukuna has you on his lap as he grumbles about “stupid human policies.” for his birthday, you gifted him a box of screen cleaning wipes, and updated his letterboxd bio to "my girlfriend put me on timeout for the rest of the week, so i won't be active here."
