Well. I have now learned this particular matte medium is too opaque to be used undiluted. Unsure if I’ll continue on this, leave it and come back, or leave it entirely.

Sneak peek at a new technique I'm using for a comic that will debut at the @shortrunseattle
This scribbly ghostly mess will ultimately be a full-color twelve page comic book.
Trying to finish work for that while also moving!

"Amateur Psychoanalysis"
self-portrait, acrylic on wooden board, 11.5 x 18
This is the first finished painting that I've done in over a year. It was inspired by the work of Jenny Saville, Francis Bacon, and Nicola Samori. My intention was to create a piece where only certain parts of the image were fully rendered, so as to show the various stages in a painting. In this case, only the left eye, the mouth, and the ear are complete; every other part of the image is left at an earlier stage of painting.
As for the title and the smear of the right eye... I don't know. They just kind of happened. Since the start of the piece, I envisioned the right eye as a smear of white paint. The title is how I referred to the piece mentally as I worked on it.

Thanks! I’m trying to imitate the look of risograph prints (like the ones I got done for my illustration zine) so I've done the line work in ink and then I'm doing pencil shading on separate sheets of tracing paper. My plan is to scan the pages, color in the clothes/characters/objects with one color, overlay the pencil shading in a second color, and then lay the line work over that in a third color!
I mean... I could have done the whole thing straight digital... but I like to make my life more difficult.
Scarf for a cousin, #3.
Because this was done with wool, I was able to felt the strands together every time I changed color.
