Pretty Alien

A few years back (maybe 3?) I saw your couples therapy comic and I spoke about it with my own therapist and went "wow, that was a lot of violence on kids in those cartoons and it was downplayed normalized." And in turn helped me realize that my own issues with my parents were downplayed and normalized. I'm in a much better place and I wanna say thanks for helping, in the small way you did just by sharing your comic with tumblr.

Thank you for messaging me! I'm glad to hear you're in a better place and I hope therapy was beneficial to you. Whether it's from a therapist or from a friend, it can be really important to have another person validate that what you went through WASN'T okay.

The life of a mixed media artist is always intense.

Went to the art museum and spent about 2 hrs just wandering around. A really lovely break after having an absolutely RIDICULOUS Thursday. The museum trip reminded me that painting will, I think, always be my main medium. I love doing weaving and embroidery and comics, but nothing gets to me, stops me in my tracks, makes me look, and makes me want to rush home and make my own art the same way that paintings do.

This is the first comic I’ve finished in about two years. I did the inks around July 2020 and finished it in Clip Studio Paint May 2021.

I don’t make this and post it as a way to fish for compliments; art is how I process shit.

I’m still trying to figure out screentones in CSP, still struggling with moire when viewed online.The inks were done entirely freehand, no pencils.This was also an experiment in doing "instagram-sized" work. I still prefer my work in physical comic book form, because that's how I envision the action/progression when I make comics.

As much as I would like to do a big fancy project for Inktober I’m also being realistic that won’t happen, between workstudy & internship. So if I do a page of ink doodles a day, that’ll be an accomplishment.

Completed my first “useful” weaving — a rag rug made of four panels woven together.

Tomorrow at ass o’clock in the morning I will be getting on a plane to OK to pack my boyfriend, his stuff, two snakes, and a cat into a truck and then roadtrip it all the way back to the PNW!!!

Revisiting my "Alien Moon" idea because I'm not satisfied with how that image looks as digital. May re-do the whole thing in paint or color pencil.
