When He Falls Asleep on You (Haikyuu!! Headcanons)

A/N: Yeah, yeah, I know. I’m back to my same old spiel of “it’s been a while” and “I’m so sorry I haven’t posted in (insert time) days!” Truth is, I just haven’t had the time to write like I know some of y’all haven’t had the time to read. However, I’m happy to be back, even if it is just for this one post. I hope y’all are doing good, and enjoy!

Bokuto Koutarou:

While his falling asleep on you is usually an accident (considering it’s much easier to admire you while he’s awake), he certainly always makes the best of the situation.

He nods off and his head slumps to your shoulder and instinctively you want to push him away because you just know him drooling is an inevitability but, no, a sleeping Bokuto is an adorable Bokuto.

He mumbles in his sleep. You’ve learned that from experience.

Black and white hairs tickle your neck but you don’t dare to scratch partly because one of his arms is already wrapped around you locking your own against your sides and partly because waking him would be a crime upon nature.

It only tickles for a few moments anyway because in a matter of seconds he’s curling in deeper, snuggling his forehead against your throat while his legs clamber into your lap.

It’s awkward. It’s hot. It’s not quite a boyfriend cuddling his girlfriend and more so a koala straddling a tree branch.

But it’s a classic Bokuto cuddle-bordering-on-suffocation situation so you settle in for what will be an awkward, hot bus ride.

And eventually you lean your head on his and fall asleep because, eh, why not.

Konoha totally has pictures that he sells to Bokuto later

When He Falls Asleep On You (Haikyuu!! Headcanons)

Tsukishima Kei:

More often than not, when Tsukishima Kei falls asleep on the bus, he goes full turtle.

Blond head perched back on the top of the bus seat, headphones around his neck while his mouth hangs open in a soundless snore. This dude is usually conked.

(He’s learned to sit near the front of the bus lest he risk another session of “What can Kageyama and Tanaka throw into Tsukishima’s mouth?”)

So when his head lolls to the side and rests ever so delicately on the edge of your shoulder, you freeze like a deer in headlights.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, so don’t you dare screw it up.

However… his glasses press really hard into the bony part of your shoulder.

At first, you try to suffer through the pain, taking timed, measured breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth.

Then you contemplate humming to distract yourself, but you drop that strategy the instant he twitches on your first note.

It’s too much. Come on, there’s no way there isn’t a bruise there by now!

The constant digging of plastic into your bone is insufferable at this point. You needed to eradicate the problem if this rare event was to continue.

You inch your right hand up ever so slowly, keeping your breathing steady so as to not frighten the flighty creature resting upon you.

You turn your head just a touch and your chin brushes the hair atop his head, but he doesn’t disturb one bit at the slight tousle--thank God.

With two pinching fingers you grab the frames and remove them with the delicate touch of butterfly wings.

Almost there… almost… have them...

Then Tsukishima stirs.

“Screw it.” You yank the glasses away and drop them into your lap before returning your hand to the side of his face.

“YN, what are you-” he cuts off in a grunt as you shove his head back onto your shoulder.

“Shhhh.”

“YN.” His voice is muffled from his face being smushed into your shirt.

“Shhhh. Don’t ruin it.”

“YN-”

“Escape is futile.” You pat his cheek as the rest of his body squirms like a fish caught in a net. “Accept your fate, Tsukki.”

When He Falls Asleep On You (Haikyuu!! Headcanons)

Iwaizumi Hajime:

Sticky. Sweaty. Warm.

You have no doubt that as soon as Iwaizumi wakes up, you will have to peel your shirt from his face like a sticker.

But you figure he deserves the rest. He played a great game and is understandably worn out.

And you’d be damned if you didn’t want to play pillow for him from time to time.

No, he’s not your boyfriend, but you certainly wish he was.

One of his hands fell onto your thigh the second he drifted off and your own hovers over it, an eagle waiting to land.

God, he’s so warm. Like a personal heater. The bus was pretty cold too considering Iwaizumi had the bright idea of leaving your seat’s window open for whatever reason.

The first time you complained about the cold, he offered you his jacket. However, two seconds after his offer your cheeks were burning enough to warm the rest of your body so refused.

And now here you were, almost losing consciousness yourself on account of how comfortable you’d grown in this position.

A nap… surely a nap wouldn’t hurt.

Today’s game had asked for a five a.m. arrival at the school, one seven hour bus ride down to the opponent, and one returning. It was understandable that you were exhausted yourself.

The eagle landed and your drooping eyes slipped closed. Iwaizumi’s hair--so soft--felt like the perfect cushion as you slipped into warm, deep sleep.

The soft pressure on Iwaizumi’s head allowed for a small smile to grow on his face.

Fucking finally.

Just one eye peered open and though he couldn’t see much, your hand resting flat on his just so happened to be the perfect sight.

He waited until your breathing truly evened out before moving, slowly flipping his hand palm up and intertwining your fingers between his.

His eyes began to blur once more and he gave your hand a gentle squeeze before giving in to the tiredness completely, grinning at the soft sigh you released.

Yes. Finally.

What about an Alternate Ending to pumpkin eater reader where Kuroo sees Y/n dating someone else months or a year later (maybe she can end up with one of the other Haikyuu characters or something?) Cause I don’t forgive cheaters 😤

        Buzz. Buzz.

        “Good God, is that him again?”

        “...Maybe.”

        Buzz. Buzz.

        “Son of a bitch, YN! Just block him already.”

        “All right, all right fine! I will.”

        …

        Buzz. Buzz.

        “OH COME ON!”

        Terushima throws his hands in the air, giving up. You flush and tuck your phone under your thigh, hoping it will silence the buzzing.

        It was movie night with your new friend/roommate and he had been seriously invested in the film up until about ten o’ clock, or, as you called it, “Kuroo’s whine time.”

        “BLOCK THAT FUCKER!”

        You knew he wasn’t wrong. In fact, you should have blocked him months ago. Six, to be exact. But deep down, you just weren’t ready to move on yet.

        “I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I turn it on silent.”

        Terushima shook his head and held out his hand, giving you a pointed look. “Gimme it.”

        “... Nuh-uh.”

        “YN,” he dragged out your name, leering closer to you. “Give me the phone.”

        “I’m good, thank you.”

        “YN!” Terushima didn’t give you another chance. His home, his rules.

        In an instant, your back is pushed down against the couch and you’re gasping for air as Terushima viciously attacks your sides with his long fingers. Giggle after giggle tumbles out of your mouth as you curl in like an armadillo.

        “I yield, I yield!” You hold your hands after the pain in your abdomen grows to be too much. Terushima smiles at the win and he slows his hands, but keeps them on your sides.

        His eyes glow with… something. Something you hadn’t seen since being with him.

        But whatever. Maybe it was just the lighting.

        The blond squeezes your sides before slipping a hand under your thigh and locating the phone. Before pulling it away, he pinches your soft flesh, completely uncovered thanks to your night shorts, and chuckles at the squeal that leaves you.

        “Yuuji!”

        “What?” He gives you an innocent look while tossing your phone across the room. Thankfully, it lands on his armchair.

        All you can do is sigh and straighten yourself back up, reclaiming your original position by Terushima’s side and returning your attention to the movie. His eyes stay locked on you, so close, for just a second longer before he copies your movements, focusing back in on the movie with a small quirk of his mouth.

        You met Terushima a month after breaking things off with Kuroo. He was the only apartment renter who wasn’t a freakshow or a cult leader, and you decided it was high time to get your own place. Especially after your friend, who had hosted you for one angsty, miserable month, kicked you out.

        “You need to get over it, YN,” she had hissed, shoving your suitcase back into your arms before slamming the door in your face.

        And while you were still working on moving on, Terushima was a big help. He was now your guy friend, who had many guy friends that could potentially become your boyfriends. But every time you asked him about setting you up with one of them, you were instantly shut down.

        “You’re too good for them, YN. I’ll help you find someone better, I promise.”

        It’s been five months, and you’re still waiting for that “someone better” to come along.

        Now, when you had first moved in with Terushima, he seemed to be a bit of a mess. Clothes, his or someone else's, were always strewn everywhere. Girls were common midnight visitors, always sneaking out with their heels in their hands and giving you bashful smiles before slipping out the door. You would only sigh and roll your eyes.

        “Your new girlfriend overstayed her welcome this round. I think she stole our Netflix password.”

        Terushima would then purse his lips and avoid your gaze, gulping swiftly. “She’s not my girlfriend. I promise.”

        “Sure sure. But your one-night stand still stole our password.”

        Since then, he’s really cleaned up his act. You haven’t seen a girl come over in weeks. If you didn’t know any better, you’d say you were becoming a good influence on him, much like he was on you. Little by little, day by day, Terushima was beginning to help take your mind off Kuroo.

        Since the day you broke down in the blond’s arms and admitted you were still stuck on him, he’s tried to help you. He even takes you on “dates” from time to time. Just yesterday you two had gone clubbing, and though you had gotten shitfaced, you figure something weird must have happened since Terushima’s been a tad awkward around you. But then he threw open your door an hour ago, scared the shit out of you, and reminded you that it was movie night.

        You couldn’t help it. Your eyes were constantly drawn back and forth between the horror movie and the constantly-buzzing phone.

        “YN look! A jumpscare’s coming!”

        Just as you turned back to the TV, the serial killer flashed back into frame, leaving you to screech in terror and burrow into Terushima’s side. His arm wraps around your shoulders and rubs your arms for comfort.

        “It’s okay, the killer’s gone now.” His voice is low and honeyed, accompanying a slight smile as he peers down at you with his affectionate gaze.

        God how you missed being looked at like that. But you couldn’t get attached. Terushima was like Kuroo, but ten times worse. This was because he wasn’t secretive about his love life. Your very attractive roommate had a higher body count than a war general.

        So you kept things platonic, no matter how much your body yearned for another route.

        No. Terushima was your friend. Your best supporter at the moment. You couldn’t lose him like you had lost Kuroo.

        So even though you cuddled deeper into his side with every heart-stopping scene, and hugged him whenever you were feeling down, and kissed his cheek as a thank you after he would massage your back and scratch your scalp after a long day at work, you would never throw any different labels on your relationship with Terushima.

        You just couldn’t lose this one. And with him being a player, there was no point in making your feelings more than what they were.

                                ~~~
        Kuroo missed you. God, he missed you so much.
        He loved you, and he would never stop trying to get you back!
        That girl, she was a mistake. One Kuroo would never make again, because you were it for him. You were his one.
        He will call you a million more times, text you, hell even track you down to the ends of the Earth just to have you back in his arms again.
        He would give everything just to hear you say “I love you” one more time. He would die happy if he got to see those words fall from your soft lips, carefully quirked into a smile, just once. To have you back in his arms, wearing his clothes and kissing only him….
        Fuck. He had to get you back.
        There was no sign of you at your friend’s apartment when he finally gathered the guts to visit. Only a slap in the face courtesy of one vengeful friend of yours. He knew he deserved it, too.
        But then… God, five more months passed. Not a single woman had been in his bed, your bed, since you left. Every flirtation was turned down, every grabby hand pushed off. The only person he wanted was you.
        So imagine his relief when he finally found you.
                                ~~~

        “Yuuji, do you ever accidentally hurt someone with the piercing?” Your eyes were locked on the ball of metal sitting directly on his tongue while you took tentative sips of your hot chocolate.

        Terushima sat across from you and smirked lazily, sticking his tongue out through his teeth as blatantly as he could. “Boy YN, you sure do ask a lot of questions about my piercing.” He sets his elbows on the small, circular table and leans closer to you. “It makes me wonder if you ever want to feel it for yourself.”

        His cologne fills your nostrils, but you don’t mind. It’s become your favorite, most comforting scent. You lean closer and mock his smirk, lowering your voice just enough so only he can hear in the crowded cafe.

        “I do.”

        Terushima’s pupils widen in the slightest and he subconsciously leans closer.

        You do the same, grin growing on your face before you swiftly reach out a thumb and forefinger and snag his tongue, giggling at the surprised yelp he lets out.

        “YN!” he pouts with a lisp, smacking your hand away and hiding his mouth behind his own. “Why are you always like this?!”

        “I don’t know Yuuji, it must be your piercing or something,” you snicker, picking up your drink once more and taking another sip. You allow your eyes to wander around the cafe, only to lock on the worst sight imaginable just behind Terushima’s head.

        It’s him.

        He shoves the glass doors open and barges through the crowd. Your companion takes in your panicked gaze and glances over his shoulder, sneering at the person approaching quickly.

        “YN,” Kuroo breathes out in disbelief, hazel eyes locked on your tense form. A relieved smile overtakes his face as he reaches out for your hand. “I found you-”

        You tear away from him and jump out of your chair, stepping away as your eyes begin to water. “Don’t touch me.”

        “YN, I-”

        “You heard her, dude. She said don’t touch her.” Terushima fixes an enraged glare on the black-haired man, standing out of his own chair and creating a barrier between your solemn form and him.

        “And who are you,” Kuroo spits through clenched teeth, “her new boyfriend?”

        “It-...” the blond’s jaw irks before he glances back at you, “it doesn’t matter who I am. If she doesn’t want you around, then you need to leave.”

        “You’re not her guard dog, or even her new boyfriend. You’re just a rebound.”

        “Guys…”

        “YN doesn’t want you-”

        “GUYS! SHUT UP!” You breathe heavily after the shout before smiling at the other customers as an apology. “Let’s take this outside,” you snarl lowly.

        Like scolded children, the two men trail after you, almost fighting over who gets to squeeze through the door first until you throw them a warning look.

        Kuroo pushes past the blond and strides towards you in an instant, capturing you in a hug that you don’t return. “God, you don’t know how much I’ve missed you.”

        “Kuroo, I-”

        “Tetsurou.” He corrects, voice muffled against your neck.

        “... I didn’t answer your calls for a reason. We broke up. I don’t-... we can’t be together anymore.”

        Your ex leans back enough to look at your face and scans it for any sign of lying. “YN, I didn’t mean to hurt you. That girl,” he shakes his head, biting his lip, “she meant nothing to me. But you-”

        “Kuroo…”

        “-You mean everything to me!” A tear trails its way down his cheek, but you don’t care to wipe it away. Your face hardens at the words.

        “Then why did you cheat?”

        “I was wasted. And she looked like you and I missed you and I miss you still! YN, you need to understand, I love you! And if you give me another chance, I won’t fuck it up.” Kuroo brushes a hair behind your cheek and your eyes widen at the contact. “I love you so much. Please don’t let this be the end of us.”

        “...”

        “YN, we’re meant to be. It can’t end here. Not for us.”

        Kuroo was wrong, and so clearly mistaken. Months ago, you would have collapsed back into his arms. Months ago, you would have cried and muttered that you loved him too, that you still loved him.

        But now….

        Your eyes drifted past Kuroo, locking on a silent, dejected-looking Terushima.

        You just didn’t.

        “Kuroo, I can’t forgive you for what you did. I just can’t.” He shakes his head and opens his mouth to respond, but you smoothly press a finger against his lips and continue. “Even if I did, I could never trust you again.”

        “YN, if you still love me, then that’s the only reason you need to take me back. I will work every day to regain your trust, no matter how long it takes. I’ll never hurt you again. God, I love you so much, just please, please don’t let us end here.”

        Your relationship with Kuroo ended months ago. You both were just struggling to accept that.

        “No, Kuroo. No.”

        His eyes close and his head hangs, allowing his remaining tears to dribble down his cheeks. “Okay,” he finally whispers, voice silent and cracking. Then he tips his head up and presses a long kiss to your forehead, his final goodbye.

        “I love you, YN.”

        “I know, Tetsurou.”

        Somehow he finds it in himself to smile bitterly at you saying his name, and he nods in thankfulness.

        With a deep sigh, he releases you and steps back, scanning over you one last time before turning away with tear-stained cheeks.

        You had loved him for so long. He was your first everything, your high school sweetheart, and much like him, you thought Kuroo was it for you. Your happy ending.

        You were wrong. And deep down, you were glad you were wrong.

        Kuroo halts in his stance on the sidewalk, just barely passing Terushima before he slams his hand down on the blond’s shoulder and grips it tightly.

        “Don’t-” he cuts himself off to purse his lips. “Don’t hurt her like I did. Don’t let this one go.”

        The skin under Terushima’s eye twitches before he glances up at your face. “I won’t. I’m not stupid enough to make that mistake.”

        Kuroo smiles bitterly and releases your roommate, walking away down the street and never looking back.

                                ~~~
        A day passed, and you avoided Terushima like the plague.
        After seeing Kuroo once again, it reminded you of why you hadn’t ever tried moving on since the breakup even once.
        You had gotten so attached, fallen so deeply so quickly, only to be replaced for another woman for one night. You couldn’t handle that again. The pain of feeling so easily replaceable wasn’t worth the risk.
        At least, that’s what you used to think.
        “YN.”
        Terushima finally snagged your wrist just in time after hours of trying to stop you. You shivered in his grip, almost horrified with how eerily similar it was.
        “Please stop avoiding me.” Terushima stared at your face with natural puppy dog eyes, and after much internal scolding, you just couldn’t resist.
        “I’m sorry.”
        “It’s okay. But can we at least talk about it?”
        “It” was a lot more complex than it sounded. “It” was a commitment. “It” was a major change in your life. “It” was… was….
        “Yeah.” “It” was accepting you might be hurt again, but trying it anyway for love.
        Terushima led you to the couch and sat you down to face him, even though your gaze was locked on everything else.
        “YN.”
        “...”
        “YN.”
        “...”
        “YN, please look at me,” Terushima pleaded, palming your cheek and urging you to make eye contact. When you did was when the walls broke down.
        The sparks his touch left against your skin weren’t right. Because why did they feel so right?
        You loved Kuroo. Some part of you always would, along with the memories you two shared. So surely falling for someone this soon, this hard was wrong, right?
        “Yuuji.”
        “Just… let me speak first, okay?” Terushima dropped his hand to your criss-crossed lap, running his fingers along your kneecap nervously. Tingles erupted from the contact, and fuck, they felt so right.
        You nod and his lips quirk up gently. “YN, I know you’re probably still stuck on… umm, y’know, that guy, but I also know you must be feeling something for me too.”
        If he had said it any other way, you would have smacked him for the cockiness of the words. But the slight nervousness that tinged his tone made you love it all the more.
        “A-and I know that you two were like,” he rolls his eyes, “perfect for each other, but I mean come on, there’s something between us too.”
        There was. Even Kuroo had seen it, as blinded by love as he was.
        “But I know why you’re reluctant too. And YN,” he shakes his head hopelessly and caresses your lower thigh, keeping his gaze locked on yours, “I don’t know how else to show you, but I’m not that guy anymore. Ever since you moved in, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you.”
        “Yuuji….”
        “No other woman has made me feel the way you do,” he whispers. “And that thought kind of scares me. But I… I just can’t have anyone else. So I’m not gonna let you go.”
        You cup one side of his face with your hand and your heart stutters when he leans into the hold. Throughout all of his speech, a small grin had etched onto your face, which was nothing compared to the beaming you felt inside you.
        Waves upon waves of adrenaline, elation, and anything akin to utter euphoria lit up your chest. A zoo stomped and trampled over the tiny butterflies in your stomach as you let out a small giggle. Terushima’s eyes widened at the sound and he instantly tried to pull away, but you swiftly smack your other hand on the other side of his face, effectively trapping him.
        He looks down and drags his fingers away from your lap reluctantly. “Why are you laughing?”
        You almost felt bad, but oh fuck you were so happy! You just couldn’t help it as you let out another chuckle, causing Terushima to struggle in your grip like a floppy fish.
        “YN-”
        You finally shut him up with a kiss, pressing your smiling, giddy lips against his. So much joy bursts through your chest at the contact, and your heart flutters when the blond groans and tightly grabs at your hips.
        He can feel your uncontrollable smiling and laughing against his mouth, and he can’t help but pull away with a confused-- but relieved-- chuckle. “Why are you laughing?”
        “I just, hehe, I just can’t…” you trail off in snickers before yanking Terushima closer, wrapping your arms around his neck and hugging him while you attempt to stop your cackles against his collarbone. “FUCK!”
        Terushima scoffs in disbelief as he holds you against him tightly, baffled at your confusing actions. “What the hell is wrong with you?”
        “I don’t know,” you laugh into his skin, tickling him a bit. You creep your hands into his hair and tug on the strands in an attempt to focus yourself on something more serious. It doesn’t work, but Terushima lets out a surprised moan.
        “YN!”
        “I’m sorry, I’m just,” you press an open-mouthed kiss against his neck, giggles finally slowing, “I’m really happy right now.”
        A corner of the blond’s mouth lifts at the words and he presses you closer to his chest. “I’m happy too.” Then he tugs you far enough away that he can see your bright red face. “Now do you wanna feel my tongue piercing for real?”
        He licks his bottom lip, displaying the enticing metal bar that lights the pit of your stomach on fire. Well, at least you weren’t laughing anymore.
        “Fuck yes.”
Hey! It’s the anon that requested for the yandere!garou headcanons, I just want to say that I’m so happy that you took time to write my request and I really love it, it’s so cute my heart just went 💓💖. But I was wondering if you could do something a little darker for him because I kinda wanna see how he is when he is a little more darker.
The Gift-Giver (Yandere Garou x Reader)
image
*GIF not mine*
Summary: Belts, tank tops, even a metal bat. All these “gifts” from the Hero Hunter’s fights on the news keep showing up at your doorstep. Today, you expected no different, except it is; an empty suitcase is there, and the white-haired man in your bedroom wants you to pack up for your new home.
A/N: Aight my dude. Here’s the request you actually ordered lol. I’m such a freaking simp for this guy that I can’t hold back my uwus, but I rly hope this one is better suited for what you wanted. Enjoy! (Don’t mind me, I’m just gonna rename the other one now 😐) (Also: Thanks for 1.1k followers!)
Word count: 2941
        The first was a black belt.
       Laid peacefully upon your doorstep, it stunk of drying sweat and metallic blood. It was the first gift of many that you hid inside a closet of your house on the outskirts of City S.
        That’s what you liked to call them-- gifts. The name was much more appealing than what they actually were. And they never stopped coming either.
        Tank tops, a magician’s hat, even a slingshot. The most recent? A metal bat. Each and every one of them greeted you on your return home from work like a message.
        “I was here.”
        You weren’t stupid. You knew exactly who these objects belonged to. Reports on the news had clued you in that your biweekly Santa Claus was the Hero Hunter. But what could you do, call the police? Yeah, how innocent you would look with armloads of beaten-up heroes’ possessions.
        Tonight was the night marked on your mental calendar. A new gift would arrive on your doorstep like every other Monday and Friday.
        An oncoming headache took full-force as you jerked your car into park.
        Here we go.
        With a deep breath and a massage of your temples, you pushed out of your car and slammed the door shut. Eyes were watching you, watching every step you took as you approached your doorway. The feeling wasn’t new and it didn’t shock you either.
        No. What did shock you was tonight’s gift. You had gotten off work late today, so in the darkness of what was eight o’clock at night, you could only see the outline.
        It was huge.
        It wasn’t a sword or another tank top. It wasn’t a fake dog tail or even a hero’s cape. No, not at all, because today’s offering to you was a suitcase.
        Right off the bat, you expected a body. It wasn’t long ago that your stalker had apparently fought a hero without a signature outfit and had settled for gifting you with his disembodied limb.
        You buried the hand in your backyard and prayed to God that no dogs would go sniffing.
        So as your heels clicked up your home’s steps, you plugged your nose and held back tears as you opened your door. “No, no, no, please no.”
        What truly surprised you was that the suitcase was empty. No bodies or body parts, no fingers hidden in zipper pockets, no nothing.
        Clicking on your living room light, you set down your bag and keys on the side table before locking the door behind you and continuing your inspection alone. Even in the artificial glow of the TV you always turned on to make your house feel more alive, you couldn’t see anything but the slippery, plastic material of its interior.
        Part of you was suspicious, but the rest of you just wanted to thank God that your stalker hadn’t been as barbaric tonight.
        “Thank fuck,” you hissed as you lugged the suitcase upstairs. Of course, you would still hide it in the closet across from your bedroom, but you were just glad it would seem less suspicious compared to the rest of the paraphernalia you had gathered.
        After making your way up the stairs, you glanced into your bedroom on your way to the closet. A small glance, simple and unexpecting.
        You should have expected it.
        There, standing in your bedroom with your ceiling light on was a man. Muscles you didn’t even know existed were defined through his tight, black long sleeve shirt while the rest remained hidden in loose-fitted sweatpants. White hair stood up at attention on his head, parted in two directions with a split in the middle while his eyes were half-lidded as he fiddled with something on your bed. The spheres of gold weren’t even watching you and their piercing gaze made you want to curl in on yourself and disappear.
        “Welcome home, Angel. How was work?” His voice was deep and much too casual for a stranger, especially one that had broken in to your house.
        You were speechless. Nothing, not even a whimper could escape your closed-up throat. Your whole body had frozen in fear while you watched him, suitcase still sat on the floor of the hall with the handle in your palm.
        “Wha…” Your mouth moved, but really nothing worth hearing was coming out of it.
        The man, the Hero Hunter, only trailed his gaze up to you for a second before dragging it back down to the bed, a single eyebrow raising. The corner of his thin lips curled up into a smirk.
        “Speechless, huh? I’m not surprised, though I am disappointed in how naughty you dress when I’m not around.” His tone dipped in disgust as his long fingers finally stopped picking at the colors on your mattress. Then he lifted a hand, your panties dangling off a single index finger while he growled.
        “Red lace. Who were you planning on showing these to, Angel?”
        Fear spiked through your heart at his dangerous lilt. His tongue had spat the words at you like poison, but you still felt glued to the floor.
        Maybe it was all a dream. Maybe that’s why you couldn’t move. Surely this couldn’t be real.
        When he made his way for you, though, you knew it was only wishful thinking. Hand outstretched, you were almost certain he was going to strangle the life out of you thanks to the look in his glowing eyes, but he only used one abnormally sharp nail to lift your chin.
        “The only one you’ll be wearing these for is me now, understood?”
        “Who are you?” you finally choked out, lungs practically gasping for air as you held your breath in fear. “W-what do you want?”
        Evidently, the second question was much more hilarious than the first, as he let out a chiding snicker. “Oh, my sweet angel,” he shook his head. “My name is Garou, and I want you.”
        Apparently he could see your eyes widen in horror, as he tsked while thumbing over your cheek. “You don’t need to be afraid, YN. I’ll take care of you now. All I ask of you is that you listen.” The word is partnered with a squeeze of the skin below your chin, daringly close to your throat.
        “O-okay.” What else could you do but stutteringly agree? This man had a strength in his body that flimsily held back a wrath you received the after-effects of, and you had a whole closet to prove it.
        Your submission makes him grin, leaving your stomach churning. “Good,” he pressed a searing kiss to your forehead that makes you want to rub away the skin. “Now start packing. I got you a suitcase and everything, my Angel. You’re gonna love your new home.”
        You don’t respond this time, only settling for a nod as he pats your head like a good little pet and leaves the room.
        He was gone. Garou had finally left you alone, but you still felt the scorching burn of his touch. The look in his eyes had been so greedy you weren’t surprised he didn’t take advantage of your panicked silence to explore.
        It seemed, though, that he had already done some exploring of the sort, as your room was an absolute mess. Clothing was strewn everywhere, the more revealing of which had been clawed to shreds, no doubt from Garou’s razor-edged talons. With a small look in the mirror on your wall, you could see his own pricking under your chin had sprouted a dribble of blood.
        Oh God.
        It was only now that you had a moment alone that the realization settled in.
        Oh God.
        Oh shit! Oh fuck! FUCK FUCK FUCK!
        How could you get out of this?!
        Your bedroom window?
        No, YN, what are you, insane?! This isn’t a movie, and you couldn’t run away from a man like that after a second story fall.
        Maybe you could slip past him downstairs? Escape through the back door?
        No. Once again, you didn’t have the speed or the stamina to outrun him. What you needed was a distraction.
        Maybe you could start a fire. But your lighter for your living room chimney was downstairs. Overflow the tub? No, that would take ages and would not even phase him.
        Then the perfect idea hit you. Your phone.
        It was still in your pocket from when you had checked it while walking into your house with the suitcase and used it’s flashlight for the inspection.
        And now you could use it as the best distraction of all.
        Calling the cops and telling them the Hero Hunter was here. That could bring on so much trouble for Garou while you slipped away and hid until he would finally be taken into custody. It was perfect!
        Your fingers still trembled from the shock of it all. A man just a floor below you was trying to kidnap you and do God knows what else after that task was accomplished.
        The beeps from every button you dialed almost echoed throughout the room. You were certain Garou could hear them, but by the time you tried to silence it more, the call picked up.
        The same line as usual sounded, then “what is your emergency?”
        “Please help me, someone broke into my house and is trying to kidnap me.” A rather lame explanation, but in the heat of the moment, there was really no other way to put it.
        After giving them your address, you hung up and took a deep breath, trying to ignore the pounding in your heart.
        I’ll be okay. They can save me. I just have to stall for a few minutes.
        It had completely slipped your mind that you never told them it was the Hero Hunter in your home.
                                ***
        The suitcase was packed.
        Your door had creaked a few minutes ago, signalling Garou had returned from snooping around your house to inspect your progress. His light footsteps trailed in and it had only taken one small look for him to deduce that you were too slow.
        “I’ll help you pack, Angel. Obviously, you’re concerned about what I want you to wear, but trust me when I say I only want you to feel comfortable in your new home.” That was the least of all your worries. “You don’t need to try and impress me, I love how you look in everything.”
        Truly, it wasn’t what he said, it was the way Garou said it that made your skin crawl. Like he had literally seen you in anything, so there was no point in showing him what he had already seen. Though it was true that you had felt like someone has been watching you for weeks now, you never really noticed that the gaze was real until this moment.
        Oh God, this could be my life now.
        No, you couldn’t think like that yet. The cops and hopefully some Class S heroes were on their way. All you had to do was keep Garou here just a bit longer.
        Silence falls after his words and you resume folding your clothes and dropping them into the suitcase. Time to time, you hear Garou digging around in your dresser behind you before dropping a pair of your more scandalous undergarments into the case. The remainder of the moments spent in your room with you, he stands directly behind you with his bulky arms wrapped around your waist, solid as concrete. Sometimes, his chin sits on your shoulder and he watches you work. Others, he presses his lips to your bare skin, barely covered from your t-shirt, and runs his mouth up to your ear and down to your collarbone.
        Of the two evils, you preferred the former.
        You bite your tongue to stop from gagging at his wandering fingers. They’ve trailed up into your shirt, leaving your breath hitched, and now they’re making a move lower and lower. Just as the tips of his nails brush the zipper of your jeans, you start a conversation in effort to stop him.
        “Garou.”
        It works, and you almost cry out in relief when his hands draw back to your hips once more. “Hmm?”
        Now that you’ve halted his movements, you’ve almost forgotten how you planned on keeping him preoccupied. Then the perfect question hits you.
        “...Why me?”
        Killing two birds with one stone, you were genuinely curious as to why the Hero Hunter had chosen you to be the object of his affection.
        Though, apparently your question was hilariously easy to answer, as he lets out a deep chuckle after your words.
        “Because, YN, you were made for me. I can tell. And I can’t let this world hurt someone so pure like you. I promise I’ll take care of you for the rest of-”
        Police sirens in the distance cut off his declaration of love, approaching faster and faster. Garou mutters a curse under his breath, separating from you to open the blinds of your window.
        Flashing red and blue lights grow brighter before he cuts them off completely with a flick of his wrist. When he turns around, his eyes are darting, searching for some clue as to how they knew- oh shit.
        At last, his gaze lands on your phone, still sitting on the bed, face down. Your entire form stiffens and you berate yourself for not hiding it earlier.
        Son of a bitch.
        “YN,” he seethes, voice low enough to make you flinch. Your heart beats hard enough to climb up your throat as his eyes burn a hole into your forehead. “I sincerely hope you’re not that stupid.” You gulp but keep your head low, hands still fiddling with a pair of folded jeans. You don’t dare reply to him.
        “Oh Angel, you’re about to learn who exactly you’re dealing with.” With one last glare in your direction, he strides out of the room. His gait is no longer light and disguised.
        No, he’s no longer patient and sleek. Instead, his stomps echo all the way to your front door. You can almost hear the wind blow through your house as he whips the entrance open and steps out to greet what you hope are your saviors.
        The sirens’ screeches have finally stopped but their lights still flash through the cracks of your blinds. From what you can see, there are only two squad cars.
        Judging by Garou’s well-built yet lithe physique, you’d say those officers are more than screwed.
        Not even two seconds later, the horror begins. The door to your bedroom is open, but God how you wish it was closed. Maybe it would muffle the pained screams.
        Gunshots sound, rattling your ears as you stay put, praying that they’ve hit their target.
        No man can escape a bullet. You hoped that philosophy would apply to this moment as well.
        For a single second, silence hangs in the air enough to hear a pin drop.
        Then you’re placed into real-time horror movie audio.
        Broken cries of “Oh God,” and “No, please, I have a family!” slam through your body like tidal waves.
       You wanted to run, but you felt frozen in place. The godawful sounds floating in from outside kept you locked in your spot over the suitcase.
        Finally, your knees aren’t strong enough to hold you as they falter under the weight. With only your bed to support you, you wilt to the ground like a browning flower petal, collapsing in on yourself and whimpering into your kneecaps.
        “Please,” you whisper.
        Crack.
        “Not me,” you rock back and forth.
        Gurgle.
        “I don’t want this.”
        Shing.
        “I never wanted this.”
        Splash.
        “Why?”
        Slump.
        By the time the sounds are over, you’ve smashed your palms against your ears hard enough to leave bruises. The taste of copper in your mouth reveals that you’ve been gnawing on your lip too.
        Large, rough hands tug you off the ground and into a hulking embrace. Not a single indent or raise in Garou’s form is soft enough to give you comfort. You feel trapped against a brick wall, sobbing and shivering at all the screams, shouts, and snaps you had just heard.
        One of his hands digs into your hair, yanking your head close enough that it’s ducked into his chest while the other uses its nails to pierce the soft skin of your lower back.
        “You made me do this, YN.”
        You can feel it against your face, the blood soaked into his shirt. Deep down, you know it’s not his.
        “I need you in my life.”
        This was your life now. Cops couldn’t save you. The heroes whose possessions you hid in your closet couldn’t save you. This man-
        “And nobody’s ever going to take you away from me.”
        This monster was unstoppable. Garou, the Hero Hunter, the Human Monster, had taken you as his own personal possession.
        After gifting you with the trophies of his own wins, he would finally accept you as the ultimate prize.
       “Now let’s go home, Angel.”
Mako with Dragon!Hybrid Airbender Reader (Legend of Korra Headcanons)
*GIF not mine*
A/N: Honestly, this is one of the best things I’ve ever written. Thank you so much for requesting it, as it made me feel a lot more confident in my abilities. This idea was great, so don’t feel bad about it! I made it headcanons, but it turned into a scenario anyway, so I hope you enjoy! (Side note: Thanks for 1.5k followers!)
Word count: 2485
As a hybrid, you were used to the abuse. Abandoned on your streets by horrified parents, you knew how it felt to be abandoned and alone, hated for no reason. The horrible things your ancestors did somehow reflected onto you as you tried to live in the streets of Republic City.
Fighting for food or territory on the streets was always hard; people would take one look at you, see the telltale shifting eyes of a dragon hybrid, and scream at you till you ran for the hills. On your back was only your stolen airbending staff and your ability to shapeshift to keep you alive.
It was on a cold winter night that Lin found you at the age of fourteen, shivering and half-dead, with your eyes shifting rapidly with a plea to change forms to survive. You refused, and barely conscious, you had no will to fight when the Chief of Police led you back to her own home.
From then on, it was like you had a mother again. Though she was hardened to most emotions and rarely ever provided a true warmth, she loved you in her own way. There were times when she would scold you to tears, only to come home later with a small charm or treat as an apology.
She taught you how to use your abilities as best as she could, scouring up airbending scrolls and researching books in the city’s library to learn more about your kind. Lin was eager to be a mother, no matter how much she would deny it in front of others. Deep down, she wanted to make up for her own mother’s mistakes, and in doing so, she became fiercely protective over you. Boys, school, even the occasional social interaction kept Lin on the tips of her toes, wanting to keep you safe but also wanting you to become a strong young woman.
It was four years later that you met Mako, and he was almost as aloof as Lin. Every time he saw you, he would either greet you formally with a head nod or completely ignore your existence.
You spent your pastime at the police station, reading through cases or reorganizing files, doing whatever you could get your hands on really. In these times, that’s when Mako would watch you from the corner of his eye. Your eyes would flutter and gleam with excitement as you read through criminals’ stories, and he’d be lying if he said it wasn’t adorable.
In the pit of his chest, he felt an urge to talk to you, get to know you better. So greetings turned into personal questions. Questions turned into lunchtime conversations. Lunchtime conversations turned into dates, and dates turned into a relationship.
As the first guy you had ever really talked to, you were kind of nervous around him. Blushes and anxious glances weren’t uncommon on your end, but Mako loved to see them.
One day, he returned from a particularly dangerous mission and stomped into the station looking like a mess. His hair was ruffled, his uniform was covered in dirt and dust, and his eyes were darting around in a frantic manner. It was only when they landed on you that you figured out what he was looking for. Not saying a word, he marched towards you and cupped your face in his hands. Your mouth opened in question, but before you could speak, he pressed his lips to yours in a passionate, desperate first kiss.
Though Lin wasn’t particularly pleased about the two of you, she had grown to admire how protective Mako was of you. Him being a skilled firebender only helped her feel more reassured. You, meanwhile, had grown tired of their coddling.
Both of them treated you like a baby bird that had fallen out of the nest. Whenever someone threw you dirty glances in the street, both of them had a nasty habit of glaring and sneering. Mako is never averse to throwing a ball of fire at someone who is particularly troubling.
“I can handle myself.”
“I know, I know.”
But did they?
You wanted to prove yourself. Show that as a trained airbender who had fought for her life tooth and nail on the streets, you could handle taking care of yourself when it mattered. So one night, you joined them on a mission.
“You’re not coming.”
“The hell I’m not! I can take care of myself-- I’m not a little girl anymore!”
Mako kept silent as you argued with Lin, but his teeth gritted at the thought of you being in harm’s way. If you were coming, there was no way in hell he was going to let something happen to you.
“Fine. You can come. But don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
Your eyes widened and you turned to your boyfriend with a victorious grin, only for it to falter at the sight of him avoiding your gaze and leaving the room.
You wanted to ask, but deep down you already knew what he would say. Yes, you loved that he cared so much for you and your safety, but you really didn’t want Debby Downer to ruin your excitement for your first mission. After Lin’s reluctant acceptance, Mako avoided you like the plague, only acknowledging your existence with an outstretched hand behind him as you and the rest of the squad of police snuck up to the criminal activity.
It was a gang, and one you had learned of quite a bit during your adolescent years in the cold city. They were benders trying to overthrow the government, starting first with robbing small homes and moving up to threatening local businesses with a “safety tax.”
“I can do this, I can do this, I can do this,” you breathed out, practically buzzing with excitement behind a frustrated Mako. In the sunlight of what was only twelve noon, you could see the tension between his shoulders so much that it urged you to lodge a stick between the blades. You didn’t, but God did you want to.
“Get down!”
Your squadron had been spotted, peering out from behind an alley wall and peeking in on what was the gang’s main leaders divvying up their most recent haul.
Fire almost singed your skin before Mako tugged you to the ground, forcing your head against the pavement while he shot back his own flames. Lin, who had been at the front of the squad, had charged into the thick of it, arms raised and ready to fight.
There were about fifteen enemies in all, and with your group of ten soldiers-- excluding you-- Mako felt like they could take them.
Without warning, he rose to his feet and dashed into the fight breaking out in the intersection between four lines of buildings. The scent of blood and smoke hit you like a wave of nausea as soon as you lifted your head and scrambled to your feet.
C’mon, YN, it’s your chance! Let’s do this!
Running into the battle was like diving into a murky pool headfirst. You should have known the water would be shallow.
The pavement beneath your feet rumbles and lifts, taking you and your yelp along with it. Just before it crashes into the nearest building, you tap your staff once and take flight, soaring through the air while searching for the nearest predator.
A man that seemed ten times larger than you blasted a line of fire right towards your form, but you blew it right back into his face with a laugh.
“Haha, how’d you like that!”
When your feet hit the ground, you jumped into action. A man-- a waterbender according to the sliver of ice that almost impaled your stomach-- came at you first. You twisted your hands and twirled your staff just enough that a gush of wind pushed him back into an alley dumpster, knocking him unconscious at the slightest contact.
“Damn, I’m good! Can anyone explain why I’m so good?” You beamed, jabbing the butt end of your wooden staff into another mobster that tried to sneak up behind you. He toppled into his friend like dominoes, and just when you pounced over to land the final blow-- oh.
Ouchie
A white, hot bubble of pain burst in your chest, forcing you to let out a bloodcurdling scream. Your eyes flickered, narrowing and widening uncontrollably. No, not here!
“Dirty hybrid piece of shit! Go back to hell where you belong!”
Evidently, this gang member had done his research. As a shifter, there was a little nick right along your spine, just below where your wings would grow, that was almost like a failsafe. This man had bullseyed it like no other.
Your nervous system tingled enough to leave you paralyzed, dropping to the floor like dead weight and twitching face-first in your own puddle of pain. The only things you could do now were blink and whimper, but you cried out brokenly when he dug the pick of ice deeper into your back.
“YNNN!”
The infuriated roar of your name almost distracted you from the liquid seeping out and painting the concrete a deep red. A wave of heat, so quick and harsh it blew the hair stuck to the back of your neck away and up into your face.
Groans and screams of pain accompanied what could only have been the sounds of people being burned alive. A mewl of fright left your mouth at the sight of a charred body collapsing right across from your turned head. From the smell of it, that man was a little past well-done.
“YN!” Hands patted your face and felt down your body before their owner grunted at the feeling of cooling blood. “YN! Can you breathe? Please, say something!”
Mako’s face appeared in your blurring vision as he pressed two fingers in your neck, feeling the panic-stricken pulse.
“LIN, GET HELP! CALL SOMEONE!”
The shout was so loud, so cracked up with fear that it was almost painful to listen to.
Mako’s thumb then rubbed your cheek in what he must’ve thought was a comforting manner. Instead, you only cringed at the feeling of his uncontrolled body temperature making your forehead break a sweat.
“You’re gonna be okay,” he cooed, but his orange eyes betrayed the words. It’s not that he thought they were wrong, it’s that he hated only getting to hope they were right.
“Mako,” you whispered, disgusted at the mindless drool that pooled out after.
“Shh, YN, you’re gonna be okay. I’m not losing you.”
“Mako,” you pressed, as loud as you could muster with your face weighed down against the scraping concrete. “I love you, okay?”
“No, YN, don’t say it like that.” You understood how he felt. With the way you said it, it sounded more like a goodbye than a confession.
“I’m sorry.”
Then the darkness consumed you.
~~~ (oops, this turned into a scenario)

Not-so-silent whispers tugged you out of your sleep like a fish on a hook. The first thing you felt was nothing.

It’s true. Your body was numb from all feeling, even as you blindly waggled your toes and fingers. Then you opened your eyes and hissed at the blinding light that always accompanied a hospital room.

Tingles, pricks like sharp nails filled your limbs as you moved them more and more, and when you turned your head to find the source of the whispers, you found another pressed against the cushion of your stiff bed.

Mako was sound asleep, the idea given away by the steady inhales and exhales that forced their ways through the tissue-like material of your mattress every few seconds. And just when your fingers prickled too, you noticed his hand was up on the bed and was grasping yours tightly.

You didn’t care enough to search through your surroundings for more; instead, you settled for smiling and reaching your other hand over to dip into his dark hair.

A sudden rip of pain spread through your back at the movement, and you couldn’t hold back the yelp that came along for the ride. Without another word, Mako was up at attention, sitting with a straight back in his chair as his other hand slammed down on the bed. Two more bodies appeared on your other side, one of which being Lin.

“YN, are you okay?!”

“You’re never doing that again!”

Mako’s concerned face and Lin’s stern but worried one both added to the growing headache that pierced right through your temples.

“Ugh, I’m fine, I’m fine. Just gimme some space, you guys.”

Neither seemed too eager to please, as they both stayed tight exactly where they were.

“YN,” a gentler, calmer tone caught your eye, and a doctor just about Lin’s age gave you a pleasant smile, “how are you feeling?”

Where Lin’s skin was smooth and unmarked, the doctor’s was creased with years of practiced smiles and reassuring looks.

“Just about as good as a sack of shit. Do I look as pretty as I feel?”

With a patient chuckle, the doctor dismissed the question and hopped right into things. Daily rewraps around the wound, combined with a bullet-biting pinch of disinfectant every twelve hours and Republic City’s newest horse pills, more bitter than the smell of dried sweat that hung in the air.

The doctor encouraged Lin to follow him for the treatments, and after a kiss to your forehead and a little head pat, she did as much. When the door clicked shut after her was when Mako pounced.

“Don’t scare me like that, YN. I thought I lost you.”

His arms were folded in an attempted scolding, but the slight tremble of his lower lip broke down the facade.

“You can’t get rid of me that easily,” you snorted, reaching for his hand and trying not to tear your stitches. He did as you wanted and let you encourage him closer with a small tug.

“Good,” he whispers, leaning down and cupping your cheek with the other hand. You lean into the hold, relishing in the comfort it provides.

“Shit, Mako, why can’t you be colder? My skin feels like it’s on fire.”

“I thought hybrids like heat?”

“Yeah, well not this hot!”

“But isn’t that what you like about me?”

You smack his arm and he lets out a chuckle, leaning closer only to brush his lips against yours.

“Cocky bastard,” you jab before pulling him into a real kiss.

I Wanna Build a Snowman (Oikawa x Reader)

I Wanna Build A Snowman (Oikawa X Reader)

*GIF not mine*

Summary: Oikawa just wants to build a snowman on one of the coldest days of the year with his beloved girlfriend. What could go wrong?

A/N: Major fluff. Like...that’s it. That’s the warning. We’ve been getting assloads of snow where I am so I figured why not. Hope you like this domestic fluff!

Word count: 2264

        Something cold, soft and insistent hits you in the face.

        “YN!... YNNNN!” Oikawa keeps whisper-yelling your name and patting the side of your cheek until you finally gather the energy to crack open an eyelid.

        “Tooru,” you yawn, moving to sit up and rub the sleep from your blurred gaze, “whyyy?” The lights of yours and Oikawa’s bedroom are still off but the open curtains of your floor length window allow the white brightness flooding the space to blind you.

        Huh, looks like the blizzard warning wasn’t a joke.

        The light zaps every ounce of energy right out of you as you struggle to stay conscious and you give in, flopping back despite Oikawa’s whines.

        “No, no! YN, come on, let’s go outside!”

        “Are you insane?” you mumble into your pillow, rolling over only to be flipped right back.

        “Neither of us have any type of clothes equipped for that kind of weather. Just go back to sleep- oof.”

        A piece of clothing, pants by the feel of the starchy exterior, thwaps you in the face and incites enough anger inside you to wake you for revenge and nothing more.

        “That’s why I bought those last night while I was out!” The bed shifts as Oikawa rises from the bed, giving you a show of skin as he strips off his night clothes and dresses in the newly purchased snow pants and boots.

        “I swear to God if you don’t let me go back to sleep I’m to suffocate you with my pillow before sleeping on top of both of you.”

        “Well that’s vivid.”

        “It’s also very desirable right now.”

        Oikawa pouts, zipping up a puffy jacket to his chin before shoving a beanie on his head and dropping back onto the bed next to you. “Come on, YN! I wanna build a snowman!”

        “I swear to God if you start singing-”

        “Do you wanna build a snowm-mmphf!”

        A pillow thwaps Oikawa in the face and you drop back to the bed with a groan. “Fineeee, so long as you shut up and don’t ever sing that song again, I will go outside and build a snowman with you.”

        “Oh come on, it’s tradition!”

                                ~~~
        Okay, so maybe you weren’t a morning person and perhaps Oikawa had been right. Though the weather may as well have left you feeling stranded naked in the Arctic, passing up the opportunity to build a snowman with your boyfriend on one of the few days both of you had off together would have been a terrible decision.
        Feeling like a toddler wrapped in twenty-ply toilet paper, you stumbled down the stairs of the complex and out into the freezing cold of nature. The snow pants and boots Oikawa bought for you sagged just a tad on your hips and you had to constantly readjust them with one gloved hand while the other held firmly onto your boyfriend’s as he led you out into the open space between the building and the parking lot.
        Snow still fell in small bundles, settling into your hair and onto Oikawa’s hat, slowly and surely soaking in and freezing all at the same time. The sky was a chilled gray, the sun a distant glowing orb in the sky that could never overpower the precipitating clouds that laid claim on the sky. A wind brushed the stray hairs from your face and bit at your cheeks, bringing with more flakes that settled onto the tips of your lashes effortlessly.
        Every footprint you and a grinning Oikawa left behind revealed there was a solid nine inches of snow that crushed the dark green grass underneath. A laugh left your companion as he tugged you farther along, barging through the piles of white that seemed reluctant to move.
        “Okay,” Oikawa declared, turning back to you with a pink nose and cheeks as his breaths left puffs in the air. “What should we do first?”
        The childlike glimmer of excitement in your eyes made the smile on your face grow full-fledged. Then a devious thought came to your mind. “Well,” you tapped your chin in faux deliberation, pulling your hand out of his to set it on your hip, “I suppose we could…”
        Without another word, you pressed both hands on Oikawa’s chest and pushed as hard as possible, letting out a laugh at the split-second betrayed look on his face before his black-coated form disappeared in a cloud of snow.
        It took him a second to recover as you went into hysterics, folding your arms around your stomach as you guffawed. Oikawa propped himself up on his elbows and blew a hair out of his face with a pout.
        “You’re gonna pay for that.”
        And before you knew it, your open-mouthed laughter was interrupted with a choke as snow met your tongue and teeth.
        Small clumps of flakes stuck to your forehead and chin as you gasped, trying to wipe away the cold in vain as Oikawa rose from the ground, two more snowballs already rounded off in his hands.
        “Don’t start something you can’t finish, Tooru,” you warned, stepping back and keeping watchful eyes on both of his armed hands.
        “Oh, come on, babe.” Oikawa grinned a sly grin that told you you had awoken a beast. “You know I can’t let you off the hook after that.”
        And the battle commenced.
        Somehow even in the freezing cold you were working up a sweat, ducking and dodging as many snowballs as you could while firing off your own.
        Sometimes you would hit Oikawa in his long legs as he dove away from a throw and sometimes he would hit you back in the arms or chest while you hurried to build a fort to protect yourself. At a certain point, both of you had built fortresses that were each a solid three feet high. Oikawa had gone for the simple-yet-classic snow wall tactic while you crafted a small barrier as long as your wingspan that surrounded your front and sides, packing snow on top of solidifying snow while Oikawa occasionally knocked off a solid chunk that required you to handle damage control.
        Your teeth began to instinctively chatter as the snow that hit your face melted off and slid down your jacket, soaking into Oikawa’s t-shirt underneath. Every so often you would have to tug your gloves back down after they slid up during your construction efforts, allowing cold clumps to stick to your skin and leave patches of irritated red in their wake.
        But you were distracted for just a second too long playing defense and that was all Oikawa needed.
        A shadow fell over your work as you began to carve a makeshift window in your fort, punching a hand through the thick wall of snow in order to keep an eye on your enemy as you worked--however, such efforts seemed futile as you slowly turned around to see a towering Oikawa with two armfuls of snow prepped and angled right over your head.
        You had been too focused on your own shaky breaths and mutters that you haven’t even heard him army crawling behind you and gathering up an avalanche to bury you under.
        “Oh shi-” flumph.
        Oikawa tipped his head back and released a maniacal laugh as snow piled in your lap and atop your head, making you look like the snowman he’d wanted to build this morning.
        “Looks like I’ve won this war, YN,” he nodded to himself, dusting off his white-sprinkled blue pants and puffy jacket. “Though, to be fair, it was well fought. You must’ve just gotten too distracted by your opponent’s dazzling looks to notice he’d already trapped you in a corner, and nobody can blame you. I guess I’m just too-AGH!”
        In two seconds you went from partial abominable snowman on the frozen ground to tackling Oikawa to the ground and straddling his chest, dropping two handfuls of snow into his face as he screeched.
        “What were you saying about victory, Tooru?” you sniggered, stealing the hat right off his head and pressing it onto your own. “Distracted opponent and whatnot? Kinda makes me wonder who really won this…”
        Oikawa coughed up a snowball as you used all your weight to roll off him and settle onto the floor next to him, just far enough away that you could spread your arms up over your head and down back to your side. Just as you worked to spread your legs and arms in synchronization to complete your snow angel, two folded arms dropped onto your stomach before a head plopped on top relaxedly, forcing a large cloud of air out of your mouth.
        “I don’t know, babe,” Oikawa mumbled, adjusting right on top of you so he could lean over and draw patterns into the snow with a single finger right next to your other side. Each time he shifted, a bony elbow dug even harder into your stomach, forcing noises out of your mouth no different from the choking sounds of a floundering seal. “I really think we could call it a tie right here.”
        With one dazzling smile sent your way, Oikawa moved so he was laying entirely on top of you, legs tangling with yours and all before he moved to straddle your hips. “Never,” you choked out, helplessly wiggling underneath him. “Ugh, get off me fatass.”
        “Hey! I’ve been watching my weight before the season!” He pressed a finger to your forehead after dodging every hand you tried to bat him away with. “I’ll have you know this is all muscle, but I don’t believe you need such proof after last night.”
        You gagged at the eyebrows he waggled at you before mustering enough energy to roll onto your stomach right underneath him and army crawl out, finally free from his weight. “Don’t be such a perv.” You rolled your eyes, standing up and staring down at him with your arms akimbo.
        Oikawa’s lips curled up into a smirk as he rose to his feet, approaching you with eyes narrowed enough to have you waiting for his next words. “You know, you weren’t this shy last night either.”
        “Shut up!” You blamed the pink tint of your cheeks on the cold and smacked his arm, spinning away when he yelped in surprise.
        “Hey!” When you kept your back to him, he huffed out a sigh and made his way closer to you, so close his entire body was pressed against you. Two arms slithered around your waist and a freezing nose traced a path up along the side of your exposed throat.
        When you relaxed into his hold and leaned your head away to allow him more room to tease, Oikawa hummed in thought and pressed a kiss to the skin, hands tightening on your hips.
        “Let’s go back inside, baby,” he murmured, peppering more and more pecks along your skin until he had enough of the back-to-front issue and spun you around, pressing his forehead against yours. Both of your puffs of air now mingled together as he spoke, his brown eyes trailing from your warm gaze to your red cheeks to the plump lips your tongue just couldn’t seem to leave alone. “We need to do something to… warm up.”
        The innocence that fell over your face, no matter how fake, made his jaw clench and his body grow still.
        “But I thought you wanted to build a snowman?”
                                ~~~

        You shivered under the mounds of blankets on the bed, wearing nothing but the soaked hat on your head as Oikawa entered the room with only a sheet covering his bare form. Two steaming cups of hot chocolate piled high with marshmallows were held in his hands, one of which he held out to you after shutting the door to the bedroom and dimming the lights.

        The sun outside was long gone, instead leaving the moon to shine and reflect off the layers of snow that you and Oikawa had ruffled up hours earlier.

        You accepted the mug with a soft smile and scooted over, making room as Oikawa shrugged off the blanket completely, leaving himself uncovered to the cold still circling in the room.

        “As much as I like your staring, YN, a wolf whistle is always appreciated every now and then.”

        You only wiggled your brows and blew a kiss at him over your mug, giggling when he gawked and muttered “Perv” under his breath.

        Oikawa wasted no time grabbing his own mug off the nightstand, settling in beside you with an arm wrapped around your hips to keep you curled into his side. As the movie began, he let out a long sigh and pressed two marshmallow-flavored lips to your forehead, grinning when you nuzzled in closer.

        “Ugh, Frozen? Really?”

        “Shhh,” Oikawa whispered. “You’re gonna miss the song.” You could only roll your eyes and lay your head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat and soft humming to the music.

        And as “Do You Wanna Build a Snowman” faintly played through the shining window of your apartment, two snowmen sitting just outside with pebbles for eyes and carrots for noses froze and solidified under the light of the stars, their makeshift twig arms still holding hands.

A Cut Above The Rest (Sugawara X Reader) *Request*

*GIF not mine*

Summary: At the Shiratorizawa vs Karasuno game, it breaks your heart to see Sugawara get so excited by Kiyoko’s touch. After a long day of the silent treatment, your boyfriend must show you just how much more you affect him than any other girl around.

A/N: Honestly, this ended up better than I thought. Sorry it took me a while, and I’m not gonna lie, the other requests are probably gonna take just as long. My life is just a little sucky right now, so please have some patience. Still, hope you like it!

Word count: 2923

        Sugawara and Kiyoko were close-- they were friends, after all. But seeing him blush after she held his hands during a volleyball game was too much.

        The sight of it made your stomach churn. His face was completely red as he jerked his hands away with a shout before bobbing and weaving the others.

        “It’s mine! Get your own!”

        You could hear him from all the way in the stands, and there was no way the cameras hadn’t caught some of it.

        The game against Shiratorizawa was possibly your boyfriend’s last game ever, and he had begged and begged you to come and watch. Of course, you had agreed without much coaxing, but now, all you wanted to do was go home.

        Deep in your chest, your heart twinged. When was the last time Sugwara had ever been so aggressive over your touch like that? You couldn’t remember. Part of you felt alienated the instant it happened.

        They’re just friends.

        Kiyoko’s not the kind of girl to do that.

        Koushi would never hurt me like that.

        I’m not jealous. I’m not jealous. I’m not…

        Was there really a point in lying to yourself? No, the answer is no.

        The bitter taste of betrayal slapped you in the face the moment Sugawara had fought so hard to hide Kiyoko’s contact from another’s touch. Maybe your touch just wasn’t as precious to him.

        Maybe… maybe Sugawara actually wanted Kiyoko. It wouldn’t be the first time someone had found her more attractive over you. The girl could wear shoes made of dog dookie and boys would still kiss the floor beneath her feet.

        But your sweet, loyal boyfriend was the last person you ever expected to jump on that bandwagon when he was in a relationship.

        It hurt. Plain and simple. Your heart clenched and your stomach tightened and all you wanted was space, space, space.

        So when Sugawara jogged onto the court for the fifth and final set of what could’ve been his last game, he glanced into the stands with an excited grin to see… no one.

        “Where’s YN?”

                                ~~~
        The next day at school was hard, but ignoring Sugawara was even harder. Though he wasn’t in your class as you were only a second year, it seemed like he was everywhere, all at once.
        Every corner you turned, he was there. Each class you passed, he was inside, asking a question you already knew the answer to.
        I’m right here, I just don’t want you to see me.
        A majority of it was just pure pettiness, but the last little inkling was fear. After avoiding him for so long, you still weren’t sure you could keep it together once he finally caught up to you.
        Last night, your phone was blown up with texts, every one of them inquisitive.
        “Did you hear we won our game?”
        “Where did you go?”
        “Are you gonna answer me?”
        “Did something happen?”
        “Are you okay?”
        You didn’t answer a single one of them, instead choosing the age-old tradition of a silent treatment.
        Lunch was the hardest. You always ate with Sugawara out in the courtyard under your favorite tree. Your back would rest against his chest and you would feed him part of your lunch, him always returning the favor.
        So you couldn’t help but feel a little guilty while you nibbled on a chip, watching from your desk in a classroom on the second level of the school as Sugawara bolted out into the courtyard. His gray head of hair hung low as he made his way back inside the second he noticed you weren’t there. He shoved his hands into his pockets and lowered his gaze, observing his shoes as he scuffed them with every step.
        You weren’t an evil bitch-- why would seeing him like that not hurt you? It was just… you couldn’t forget his look of pure awe as Kiyoko touched him, like he had just been blessed by a goddess.
        You knew you were nothing special. No matter how many times Sugawara told you that was wrong, you just knew it. But a part of you still wanted to believe that Sugawara had meant what he said all those times.
                                ~~~

        “YN, open up!”

        A fist pounded on your door with hefty conviction. It hadn’t backed down for the past twenty minutes, and honestly, it seemed like it never would.

        “I know you’re home, YN! Please, just answer the door!”

        With parents still at work, you were all alone at the house. There were no school projects or assignments, no homework or work-work; it was one of those few days in a year you would use to go to your boyfriend’s house and “study.”

        “I’m not leaving until you let me in, YN!”

        After ignoring him all day at school, you knew you wouldn’t be off the hook for long. Sugawara always worried about you like this. There wasn’t a day gone by that you two hadn’t at least contacted each other via phone, so there was no doubt he knew something was up.

        But you stayed put on the living room couch, wrapped up in a blanket and hugging yourself while trying to convince yourself the tears were just allergies.

        “YN!”

        There was a saddened whine in his voice, like a hint of desperation.

        You wondered if he was hurting like you. Would he be as jealous if you acted that way with somebody else? Would it pain him to see you blush and value another boy’s touch? Would he even care?

        Or were you just being childish?

        In every relationship lies one secret insecurity. One person’s more attractive, another’s skinnier, another’s taller. Another may be smarter or another may have a more stable life. There’s always a possible hamartia. And yours?

        Sugawara was older than you.

        He never treated you like a child, though he had that habit. His friend group was all older, and yours, of course, was younger.

        It was only a year, but in high school, that made all the difference. Girls his age, in his class, always spending time around him were bound to go after him at some point. At least, that’s what you always assumed. You’ve never told Sugawara any of it-- of your fears that there was another girl who he talked to that one day might just peel him right from your grasp-- you didn’t want him to think you were being childishly insecure.

        And so, seeing Sugawara with Kiyoko made your volcano of unease erupt.

        “YN, please!”

        But you didn’t want to lose him. God, you really didn’t want to let him go. He was kind and loving and made you feel things you’d never felt before.

        “Hey.”

        So you slithered out of your nest of blankets and opened the door.

        In a word, he looked disheveled. His hair stuck up in every which way, unkempt tufts barely catching the light of your porch. His hand, still frozen in the air to keep knocking, shook in place. But what most rattled you to your core was his face.

        He looked… scared. If you didn’t know any better, you might’ve thought a murderer was after him. The cold of what was eight p.m. in March had bitten his cheeks and nose to a nice pink color. Angry lines framed worried, hazel eyes that widened at the sight of you. Or more, the tear streaks you had failed to hide.

        “YN,” he sounded winded, “what happened?”

        Now. Right now was the moment you had been dreading. Unloading all of your personal insecurities onto another person was quite possibly the hardest thing to do, mostly because you knew nothing could be done about it.

        “I…” The words were trapped, caught in your throat in a nasty combination of crap you could only hack up in the form of a sob. “I, um.” And that’s all you could say.

        For a solid two minutes, Sugawara waited patiently for nothing. His brows rose in a gesture of take your time, but after seeing your lips stay zipped instead of opening and closing with the possibility of words, he must’ve gotten the hint.

        He nodded then pursed his lips. “Okay then. Why don’t we… well, come with me. I want to show you something.”

        Without another word, he snagged your hand and tugged you out of your house before closing the door.

        “Maybe you can tell me what’s up once we’re there.”

                                ~~~
        The drive wasn’t long, but by the time it was over, Sugawara’s headlights and the moon were the only lights around.
        The local park sign greeted you once he helped you out of his car, closing the door for you before grabbing your hand and leading you away.
        You were surprised at how warm his fingers were when they intertwined with your own, flexing against yours out of habit while Sugawara tugged you around.
        “There,” he muttered under his breath, leading you right to the thickest oak tree around. The trees were few and far between in the clearing where you two settled, and just barely in the distance could you see the plastic playground of the city.
        “Come on.” After taking a seat against the rough trunk, he pulled you down into his lap with a soft smile. Like always, your back leaned into his front, which worked as a heater in the slight breeze of the night. His hands wound around your waist and hugged you flush against him with not even an inch to spare. Both of your guys' legs lay straight out, his just outside your own but pushing them close enough together that one almost sat on top of the other.
        Instinctively, your hands relaxed down onto his thighs, and you finally let yourself relax back into his form.
        The silence was nice and peaceful. For a moment, you forgot why he had even brought you there. When you truly let go and wound your arms up behind Sugawara’s neck, he decided to break it.
        “So… do you want to talk about it?”
        Not really, but you knew you had to. Tonight, you just wanted this undisturbed moment with him. You just wanted to listen to the trees rustle and the crickets chirp, all with him by your side. But you knew that if you wanted more moments like this, you had to start talking.
        “Koushi,” you sighed and shook your head, “yesterday, at… at the game, right?”
        “Yeah?”
        “You and Kiyoko got really, um, really close.” You could feel him suck in a breath, but he let it out slowly before humming for you to continue.
        “I think I see where this is going.”
        You weren’t sure what to make of that response, so you kept speaking. “You held hands and-- God, I feel so stupid, but it made me kind of… jealous.”
        “And that’s why you ignored me all day?”
        Out loud, it sounded ridiculous-- ridiculous and foolish. So why did the memory of them still hurt?
        “Yeah. Basically.”
        You wanted to say more. You wanted to explode and confess, just let loose of all the feelings you’ve kept rammed up for months of being with him, but you just didn’t want to run the risk of losing him.
        You loved him. At least, you think you did. It’s only been so many months, but when he wasn’t around, you missed him, and when he was around, your heart raced with excitement. Seeing him with Kiyoko almost made it look like things were one-sided.
        “Kiyoko and I are just friends.”
        A log broke away from the dam in your chest, increasing your need to let loose.
        “Yeah, I know.” Your voice was tight, and there was no chance Sugawara hadn’t heard it. His fingers started dancing along your stomach, slipping up your shirt only so far as the skin below your belly button before splaying along the hot flesh.
        “YN, I know you’re still not telling me something. Please, you can talk to me. I’m your boyfriend, and I’m here for you.”
        The level of comfort those words held, Sugawara had no idea. Your heart fluttered at just their meaning. Someone was there for you, and they wanted to listen.
        So you spoke.
        “I just,” you didn’t know why, but your eyes began to burn with tears, “I know I’m not that girl, you know? The one that everybody would love to talk to and stops and stares at. The one that people would kill to touch or smell or something. And I know that’s weird or selfish, but God, I just hated seeing you with a girl like that.”
        “YN-”
        “Kiyoko’s perfect,” you continued, throat constricting the more you choked out. “I know that. Everyone loves her and wants her, but…” The first salty trail paved its way down your cheek. “Koushi, I want to be that girl sometimes. It’s gonna sound vain, but I really wanted to be that girl to you. But maybe I needed to be knocked down a peg like that.”
        “YN!” His voice rose and cracked, and his forehead dropped to your shoulder. “Please, please don’t think those things about yourself. Please.” With an open-mouthed kiss to your neck, he shook his head. “I don’t want the girl I love thinking these things. I want you to be happy. I want to make you happy. You must not see it, but you’re that girl to me all the time.”
        Another kiss, this one sloppier as he bit back his own tears.
        “Koushi-”
        “I hate making a fool of myself in front of you.” Kiss. “I hate how I still feel like a little schoolboy whenever I see you.” Kiss. “Fuck, I mean, my hands shake and my heart flutters and I just know my damn palms are sweating but I still want to hold you.” Kiss. “And YN, when I hold you, I can’t even think straight.” His entire back has curled in over your form like a shield. “My heart just pounds like crazy and I feel so stupid because I keep thinking that we’ve been together for so long and I still get so excited to see you, like a damn toddler on Christmas.”
        The two hands under your shirt travel to your sides so Sugawara can turn you in his lap until you’re facing him head on. Then they peel away and cup your face, fingers stroking the skin while Sugawara stares at you with what could only be described as pure love in his eyes.
        Just the sight of it robs the air from your chest. Breathless couldn’t describe it, but a rush of elation could. Your stomach twinged with excitement as you swallowed up the unfiltered allegiance Sugawara was swearing to you with his soft, hazel eyes.
        “YN, I can’t believe you thought anybody else could make me feel something more than you.” A thumb brushes over your lips while he shakes his head. “You must be blind.”
        When your hands reach up to tangle into his hair, he only allows one of them to complete the trip. The other, meanwhile, is caught by the wrist. Sugawara leads your hand to his chest, pressing your palm flat against the space hiding his heart.
        “Can you feel it?” You do. His heart is pounding, much like your own. The speed and force of each thump under your palm has you leaning your cheek into his other hand. “There’s that smile I love so much.” His thumb runs over your upturned lips once more, and you can’t help but blush.
        “Koushi.”
        “Hmm?” His eyes are still locked on your lips, but they slam shut once you pull him into a kiss. A moan escapes his throat at the feeling. It’s passionate and thankful and loving. It washes your worries away and has you confront the warm, soft truth: you’re in love with him, and that’s what matters. You’re urged to separate only for a truly desperate need of air, and even then the distance between you barely grows.
        His hot breath warms your cheeks as he dips his forehead against yours, dropping his hands to wrap your legs around his waist. Fingers massage the flesh of your thighs as he keeps his eyes closed, lips searching for yours once again only to be stopped by a giggle. His eyes flash open at the sound, crinkling at the corners when his mouth curls into a confused smile.
        “What?”
        “Nothing, nothing.” In all honesty, you feel like you're on cloud nine, riding a wave of pure bliss. “It’s just…” your hand pats against his chest, rumpling the white t-shirt he’s wearing. “Your heart’s beating really fast. Maybe we should take a little break.”
        Sugawara chuckles and leans back against the tree, ducking your face into the crook between his neck and his shoulder with a hand in your hair.
        “Trust me, princess. When you’re nearby, it always beats this fast.”
Story Time (Ushijima x Reader)
*GIF not mine*
Summary: When you are assigned a partner project with the intimidating Ushiwaka, you start to realize he’s not all that scary, and maybe, just maybe you could teach him a thing or two about Happily Ever Afters.
Author’s Note: I’m just gonna say it now: Ushiwaka would be a big softie for his s/o. There, I said it. Anyways, he’s a lil OOC in this fic, but suck it up bc he’s adorable… well, at least to me, he is. Enjoy!
Word count: 3344
        The rain drops on the window were having a race, and droplet number three was winning. You, the referee of this epic face off, sat in class quite boredly, barely comprehending the teacher’s droning on about a new project. You were going to have a partner and a syllabus, so there was no reason for you to listen that intensely. Your neck was sore from being held in it’s turned position for such a stretch of time, and so was the hand that held your chin, but you couldn’t care less. A tune popped into your head, and while humming slightly you began to bounce your knee to the beat as well.
        “That song is super old, you know,” the redhead who sat beside you piped up, “try singing a newer one, like ‘Filter.’”
        “Tendou, is there something you and YN would like to share with the class?” the teacher announced, giving your desk mate a pointed look.
        “Sorry, miss, I was just suggesting YN change her radio station. The song she was on wasn’t really my style,” he teasingly remarked. A couple of students chuckled at the facial expressions the class clown and the teacher exchanged, but you were just glad the attention was once more off you. Finally, the teacher backed down and returned to the list she was reading aloud, and Tendou gave you a victorious smirk.
        “’Serendipity’ is not that old,” you whispered to him while keeping your eyes on the front of the class.
        The redhead raised his brow in return, opening his mouth to counter, “You know it's from three years ago, right. They’ve made plenty of new-”
        “YN.” The teacher’s call instantly grabbed your attention, and you looked up at her in fear of a scolding. “You’ll be partners with Ushijima.” The statement startled you, until you remembered oh crap, there’s a new project. Dark green eyes found yours from across the room, and you blushed before glancing away. Your desk mate beside you had noticed, however, and let out a small hum with a devious smirk before moving to join his own partner.
        Tendou’s intimidating teammate sauntered over to your desk, completely dismissing the lack of personal space and invading your precious bubble. He didn’t smile at you, but he never smiled, so that was to be expected. Ushijima was known as a terrifyingly strong, but equally handsome, man, and with that information, you received the same amount of pitying looks as you did jealous.
        Ignoring the eyes on you, you watched in your peripheral vision as Ushijima pulled up a chair right next to your desk and crashed down into it. His lumbering body wasn’t as graceful as it seemed on television, and you couldn’t help but spiral into a mental rabbit hole at the thought of him, or more specifically, his volleyball team, and the games you had seen them play on local sports stations. There was always one player your eyes never strayed from, but to be fair, the platinum blond setter was highly attractive.
        You were drawn from your thoughts by a throat clearing at your side. This time, the man’s spine-chilling presence was too close to bear, so you scooched your own seat away slightly, only to cringe at the loud screech it made against the floor. A look flashed in Ushijima’s eyes, but it was gone too quickly for you to identify, especially as you chuckled nervously at your own blunder. Finally, he gruffly spoke up. “I think we should read books to the local elementary school.”
        Silence fell over you. Yep, that was definitely the last thing you expected to hear from the stone-faced ace. “W-we should what?” you asked incredulously.
        “For our ‘Give Back to the Community’ project. I think we should read to elementary schoolers.” Oh, so that’s what the assignment was about. However, your fellow third year’s suggestion was just as jaw-dropping as when you first heard it. To make sure he was serious, you inspected his dark orbs, only to find they were just as indifferent as when he first approached you. Well, no point in arguing with him now, you thought, instantly adhering to his admittedly good plan. In any case, you already had a younger cousin who attended that school, and would love to see her again.
         “I think that’s a great idea,” you declared while flashing him a small smile. “What kind of books were you thinking?”
                                ~~~

        Walking through the halls, you glanced back down at the note you had for Ushijima. It was a reminder he had wanted you to make for both of you, along with a time and place of when you would read at the elementary school. Last night you had contacted its principal and had gotten the go ahead for your project. Now where is that brute, you thought as you searched for his olive-brown hair. At first, you thought it would have been easy given his hulking form. But now, after trying to hunt him down for at least twenty minutes, you were starting to grow agitated.

        “Hey YN, looking for someone?” A voice sounded behind you. Turning around at its familiarity, you expected to also see your partner, only to flush at the sight of your crush. Tendou smirked at your red face, but he also appeared disappointed. You didn’t notice a thing, though, as your eyes hadn’t strayed once from Semi. The blond looked at you almost unimpressed, and you subconsciously wondered if there was something on your face, or if your hair had been mussed up.

        “Y-yeah, umm,” you cleared your throat at the stutter. “Have you seen Ushiwaka anywhere? I have our project time for him.”

        Tendou smiled at something, or someone behind you, and kept his mouth shut when a deep, stiff voice spoke, “Hello YN.” Whipping around, you beamed victoriously at the sight. The action must have blinded the ace player, because he looked away directly after.

        Shoving the note into Ushijima’s hands, you informed him, “We got the appointment on Friday at the elementary school closest to here. I already spoke with our teacher, and she gave us permission to miss school for it, thank God. It’s around lunch, so we’ll have to leave a little before that time.” Your eyes shined with pride at what you had already done for the project, and you talked almost excitedly. You had always wanted to work with children, so you adored Ushijima’s idea.

        “Sounds great, I’ll see you then.”

        “Okay, see you guys around.” Waving as you walked away, you turned back and held your cold hands to your cheeks. While you had only ever truly spoken to Semi once, it was still just as nerve-wracking to speak with him directly behind you.

        As you left down the hall, you failed to notice the three pairs of eyes on you: one indifferent, one cocky, and one… abnormally bright.

                                ~~~
        Sitting in one of two main rocking chairs of the school’s library, you were even more nervous than usual when Ushijima approached you, arriving right on time while you had chosen to roll in twenty minutes ahead of schedule. The teachers you had talked to said they would release their students at 12:30 to the library, giving the pair of you thirty minutes to choose a story and hope it would keep their attention.
        “Hey,” you greeted your project partner, observing as he took the seat next to you.
        “Hello,” he responded bluntly, sitting uncomfortably stiff in his chair as it began to rock on its own. The conversation seemed to have hit a dead end; that is, until you remembered something.
        “Oh, what fairy tale did you want to read to the kids?” you asked him, standing up and approaching the section of the library evidently labeled “Fables.” While waiting for his response, you chose to busy yourself by checking out the many options available on the shelves.
        “Preferably a calm one. Maybe… without princesses?” For the first time in your whole life, Ushijima sounded unsure of himself, almost as if fairy tales were unknown territory to him.
        You grew confused. “Well then, what’s your favorite one from when you were a kid?”
        “I never really read fairy tales as a child. Though I do remember hearing about one that does pique my interest.” You stopped and stared at your partner in bewilderment at the first half of his statement, and a frown stole the place of your smile at the confession. Who’s never read fairy tales as a kid? What a sad childhood that must have been, you thought to yourself, shaking your head in disbelief.
        “I’m so sorry, but fairy tales are great, you should read some when you have the chance! Some are a little more sinister than others if you read from certain authors, l-like Cinderella! In the original, the stepsisters like cut off parts of their own feet, but-,” you cut yourself off, surprised at your own word vomit. “I’m sorry, I’m rambling.” Your jaw almost dropped when Ushijima, the Ushijima, brandished you a small hint of a smile, the corners of his lips slightly upturned.
        “It’s okay, I like hearing about them. Maybe not those kinds of scenes but…” his deep voice trailed off and he gestured for you to continue. Quickly, you changed the subject and looked away to avoid making contact with his sharp, olive-colored orbs. You knew that if you had kept staring, a blush would’ve been inevitable.
        “Umm, okay, that’s cool,” you mumbled out. “Anyways, you were saying one piqued your interest. Which one?”
        His eyes seemed to glimmer at the mention of his evidently beguiling fable, and he announced, “‘Little Red Riding Hood.’ That’s the one that has always interested me. Although I hear there are many different versions of this one, so I fear I might not be thinking of the right story for the kids. What do you think?”
        You shake your head and say, “No, no, no. That is a good one, but what happened in the version your thinking of that's got you so interested in it?”
        “Well, in the one I’ve heard about, the wolf and Little Red Riding Hood-” Ushijima is cut off by the sudden chatter of young children entering the room. Eyes widening in surprise, you check the time, only to be confused when you realize that they are a few minutes early. A teacher stumbles over to Ushijima and hurriedly explains that the kids had finished their music class ahead of schedule, so the reading would need to start prematurely.
        Hastily, you wrack your mind for the author’s name of the age-appropriate Little Red Riding Hood story and “Aha” victoriously as your eyes spot the book you were looking for. Retrieving it from the shelf, you strut over to your project partner with the slim picture book in hand, motioning for him to join you in front of the twenty-something group of elementary schoolers in your two given rocking chairs.
        You give him a small, reassuring smile before you announce, “Hey kids, my name is YN YLN and this is Wakatoshi Ushijima and today we will be reading ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ to you guys!” Attempting to keep your voice cheerful, you are relieved when the children respond positively instead of groaning like you had expected. Spotting your little cousin in the front row of the class, you return her excited wave softly and accompany it with a large grin. Winking at Ushijima, you don’t have time to question your cheeky action before you hand him the book, allowing him to start reading his coveted fairy tale.
                                ~~~

        As more time passes, you start to realize Ushijima is growing more and more confused with his fable. After you close the book with the classic “Happy Ever After,” you throw him a confused smile as the class of children shout a loud, rambunctious “Thank you!” Before you can question him, however, your younger cousin approaches and gives you a large hug.

        “N/N, that was so fun! I wish you would read to our class more! Can you please read to our class more?” Her voice began to transition from begging to whining, and you started to panic internally while wondering how to handle the situation. After all, you had only babysat her once before, and that night, you had done just about anything to get her to stop crying.

        You were fearing the same result when, thankfully, her teacher came to the rescue, telling her that she needed to rejoin the class. Grumbling under her breath, your cousin gave you one last hug while glancing at Ushijima, who had been awkwardly watching the encounter from his chair. Looking away with fear, your cousin hesitantly whispered, “N/N, your boyfriend is scary.” Your cousin’s teacher was quick to usher her out of the library before you could explain that, no, the scary man was not your boyfriend, and please don’t tell the rest of the family as they will flip.

        Sighing in exasperation, you whip around and give Ushijima a shy smile and laugh before saying, “Sorry about her, she just assumed, I’ll tell her later. If she doesn’t forget by then.”

        Ushijima ignores your lame joke while responding, “That’s okay, I didn’t mind.” Hearing those words, you flush slightly and wonder if he meant it how it sounded.

        Rapidly changing the subject, you asked him why he seemed so confused while reading the ‘Red Riding Hood’ fairy tale.

        “Well,” he admitted, “In the one I’ve always heard about, the wolf and Little Red Riding Hood fall in love, and the wolf is actually just a kind werewolf who looks scary most of the time. And Little Red Riding Hood isn’t a little girl, but an adult just like him, who ignores his flaws….” Ushijima trails off and he looks away as he begins to blush as well. Your eyebrows raise softly at his unexpectedly sheepish admission, and you smile widely.

        “You know, if you wanted a story like that, we could always read ‘Beauty and the Beast.’ That one’s pretty much on the track you’re looking for,” You tell him, grin not stopping for an instant.

        “We?” he asks gently and you almost choke on the oxygen in your lungs.

        “You! You! I meant you. You could always… read it on your own, not we.” You fail to miss the way the smug glimmer in his eyes falls, and you smirk while lightly suggesting, “Unless you do want us to read it?”

        With that, Ushijima seems to gain his confidence back, only for it to drop once more when he mutters, “I couldn’t do that. We shouldn’t do that.”

        Bewildered by his sudden change in attitude towards you, you quickly question, “Why?”

        “Because.”

        “Because?”

        “Because I’ve seen you around Semi, and I… I don’t want to ruin whatever you guys may have,” Ushijima admits, his hands subconsciously curling into fists. While watching this, your eyes widen in realization and you wonder to yourself, Am I really that obvious? Shaking away the thought, you quickly grab the man’s hand and unfurl it, holding it in both of yours while looking him in the eyes.

        “I’ll admit, before today, I did like Semi, but for appearances only! I’ve never even talked to him. Well, only once, but that was because he helped me pick up my books when I dropped them, tripping over God knows what-,” you cut off your own rambling once again, and wonder to yourself why you do that so often, especially in his presence. “Either way, my crush on him is purely visual, if that’s what you want to call it. Now... well, I’m really hoping we get a chance to read ‘Beauty and the Beast’ together. Or at least watch the movie…?” you trail off suggestively, timidly awaiting his response.

        Ushijima is silent for a moment, and you begin to lose your confidence, loosening your grip on his hand, but he quickly grasps both of yours once more in an instant.

        “I’d like that. A lot.”

                                ~~~
        Glancing at the clock on the gym wall, you groan and look back to the court while whining, “Wakatoshi, come on. We’re gonna miss the movie.” You bounce up and down on your toes impatiently, watching your boyfriend once again spike the ball so hard into the floor on the other side of the court that it bounces up and lands in the stands. At least I don’t flinch at the sound anymore, you thought, watching Goshiki grumble under his breath before racing up the stairs to retrieve yet another volleyball.
        “Sorry, babe, just one more I promise,” the ace replies distractedly.
        “Babe, huh?” Tendou asks, wiggling his eyebrows. “You guys must be getting serious. Who’d have thought Mr. Scary, Blank-Face Man would get a girlfriend, and call her ‘babe’ nonetheless!” The redhead laughs to himself loudly and cheekily elbows Shirabu in the side, who responds by shooing his hands away in irritation.
        Ignoring his teammate’s taunts, Ushijima tosses up the ball again to Semi, who sets it perfectly in place for his favorite spike. The ball hits the other half of the court so harshly you’re surprised it doesn’t pop from the pressure. Following as it travels once more into the public seating on the second level of the gym, your amazed expression drops in exchange for amusement. Everyone witnesses as it rebounds back down onto the court as a result of the ball hitting a chair.
        “Thank God,” Goshiki mutters, dropping the first ball he got into the basket and picking up the second one just as it rolled over to him. “I am so tired of this job,” he tells you, and you giggle at his worn out expression.
        Noticing this, Ushijima jogs over to you and swiftly kisses your cheek, giving a pointed look to the first year before packing up his gear. You roll your eyes at his possessive action and decide to help the boys clean up while waiting for your boyfriend. Just as you reach for a stray volleyball, another hand plucks it away. You glance up and smile politely at Semi while jokingly claiming, “That one was mine, you know.”
        The blonde third year blushes at your quip, chuckling slightly before replying, “Sorry, I didn’t know you claimed it. You still want it?” He teasingly holds it out to you, but the ball is stolen out of his grip by one stronger, larger hand.
        Looking up slowly, Semi shivers at the glare he receives from Ushijima who smoothly throws the ball into the basket behind his teammate. “Actually, it was mine.”
        Scoffing and smirking at your boyfriend’s jealous tone, you grab his now empty hand and say, “Don’t get all pissy, let’s just go before we miss the whole movie.” As the two of you walk through the gym doors, you look over to see Ushijima glaring back at his poor teammate, who keeps his wide, brown orbs locked on the ground to avoid the ace’s wrathful gaze. You roll your eyes once more before pulling his face toward yours. The intimate act successfully captures his attention, and you playfully whisper, “You’re really hot when you’re mad. I like it.”
        Raising his brows, Ushijima’s deep voice teased, “Oh really? Well then maybe we should skip the movie altogether.”
        You smile flirtatiously at him while biting your lip. “I like that idea. Maybe we could just talk all night long.”
        “Sounds good, because I’m still confused as to why the little girl didn’t notice her grandmother was actually a wolf. Was she nearsighted?” You groan at his innocent change of the subject.
        “Are you serious? I’ve told you a thousand times, she was just a little girl who didn’t notice for the sake of the story!”
        “I would’ve noticed if my grandmother was a wolf.”
        “I know, I know, ‘cause nothing flies past you, except for every single joke ever.”
        “Impossible… jokes do not fly.”
        Your whine of exasperation fades into the night as the two of you walk home to discuss fairy tales.
