For Y’all Who Don’t Know Where This Comes From:

For y’all who don’t know where this comes from:

Tuskegee—TDLR; “untreated syphillis in the negro male.” Men were promised free health insurance for participating. They did not get it, and many died. This study was conducted by the CDC at Tuskegee University, a university founded by a black man. Years later, they were given that free health insurance, and promised it would pass on through generations. The last person covered under it died in 2004 if I remember right.

Henrietta Lacks—Doctors snatched her cells without asking. Her cells didn’t die, and are still used today. She died in that hospital (John Hopkins), and no one in her family saw a dime.

J.Marion Sims (gynecologist)—he experimented on enslaved women, without anesthesia (of course).

Plus Forced sterilization in the 1900s targeted mostly black women, or people deemed mentally “unfit” to be a mother.

Oh, and racial medical bias today.

My love letter to the queer silver lining of 2020

A lot of revolutionary, unprecedented things happened in 2020 — that... goes without saying

But among all the chaos, one thing I can be grateful for was the surge of queer representation in western animation

I feel lucky to be alive in this time of change, and I’m also excited for the younger generation who gets to grow up with these explicitly queer shows

It gives me hope that this kind of representation will make it easier for them to figure things out :’)

Here’s to a safe, happy, and loving 2021, and here’s to being seen!! ❤️🌟

Things abled people don't understand:

Your test results coming back negative isn't necessarily a good thing. Sometimes it just means that you're back to step one in trying to figure out what's wrong with you.

Conversely, a diagnosis can be a huge relief.

Wheelchairs mean freedom.

Things that most people would consider non-activities, such as taking a shower, putting on clothes or commuting, can take a huge amount of energy if you have a chronic illness.

This includes things you do for fun, such as socialising, playing games, reading, and even watching TV.

Exercise is going to make my condition worse, not better.
