Să-mi bag pula, a ieșit Călin Georgescu.

Hi Prideknights!

You're based in Europe, right? Could you help out signal-boosting this European citizens initiative to ban conversion therapy in the EU?

https://eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/#/screen/home

I don't think I have to explain the horrors of conversion therapy to you, so let me explain how this initiative works.

For it to get taken seriously by the EU, we need two things:

7 countries need to reach the minimum threshold of signatures for their country. We're currently at 6 out of 7! Slovenia only needs 300 more signatures to become country number 7!

We need a total of 1 million signatures. This might look daunting, but there days ago we were still at 200.000. Yesterday we were at 450.00. We are at 535.000 right now. So we have a long way to go, but we are moving fast!

The deadline is in a few days, on May 17.

Anybody with a European citizenship can add their name to the pile! If we reach the right amount, the official citizen initiative will be put before the EU Commission.

With lgbtq+ rights getting rolled back across the world, including Europe, there is no time to lose to demand stronger protections.

I love this so much, honestly. You, as an australian, understood more of this than most highschool students here in Romania about these events. Kudos to you!

and now, a dramatic and not necessarily historically accurate re-enactment of the unification of the principalities of moldavia and wallachia, as understood by one very stupid australiancă who really should be doing more productive things, îmi pare rău everyone

please correct me wherever necessary, it is the only way i will learn :)

(into the time machine we go)

Me: not that far back

(the 15th to 19th centuries, pretty much)

Moldavia and Wallachia: *get kicked around by the ottomans*

Moldavia and Wallachia: *get kicked around by the Russians*

Moldavia and Wallachia: this is such bullshit

the Crimean War: *occurs*

Moldavia and Wallachia: oh fuck off

(the Treaty of Paris, 1856)

The powers: Well we probably could give you a proper unification, but the broader geopolitical situation, you know.

The powers: So it's back to the Ottomans with you two.

The powers: But the Sultan is going to set up focus groups so you can come up with how you want to run your little principalities and we'll tell you if it's ok.

(the Ad-Hoc Divans, 1857)

(I just like saying "Ad-Hoc Divans")

Moldavian separatists: *steal the election*

Moldavian unionists: Hey!

the Ottomans (pro-separatist): la la, nothing to see here

England and France (pro-unionist, I guess, if they have to): no, do it again

Wallachia: some of us got it right first time

(the Paris Convention, 1858)

The powers: (are they still going on about this? how can we make them go away without destabilising the region, fucking eastern europe we s2g)

The powers: We have read your demands and we all had a good laugh! Here's what we are actually prepared to give you.

The powers: Now why don't you each go and elect a domnitor.

The unionists: *read the convention*

The unionists: *notice a loophole*

The unionists: you know what would be hilarious?

(5/17 ianuarie 1859)

Moldavia: We elect Cuza as our domnitor.

the entire population of Iași: *goes off*

G. Sturdza: dammit that should have been me

the unionists: shouldn't have been a Russian agent then

(24 ian and also 5 feb)

the unionists: oh shit we want Cuza but he doesn't have the support of the conservatives

Wallachian liberals: mobilise the populace!

Wallachian conservatives: vaiiiiiiii this decision is too hard

over 30 thousand people converging on the Assembly:

Wallachia: ...We also elect Cuza as our domnitor.

the entire population of București, probably: *goes off*

(then)

The powers: *19th century diplomatic keysmash*

The powers: You can't do that!

The United Principalities: Show us in this convention where it says the domnitors have to be two different people.

The powers: ...

The powers: All right but you're still not a real country.

Cuza: hold my țuică

(epilog)

Romania: Can we have Bessarabia back now?

Russia: NO

Mihai Eminescu: you will be hearing about this

Eminescu: give me a minute

Hi Bucharest and Ilfov (and other close by locations) based Romanians!

People are planning everyday protests against Călin Georgescu from 19:00 at Universitate.

If you can, go.

The police has been civil and cooperative as far as I've heard, even removing somebody who showed up with a Bible.

Update:

Hi Bucharest And Ilfov (and Other Close By Locations) Based Romanians!

Update 2:

"‼️Mesaj de maxima importanta‼️

Se apropie ora 19:00, ne vedem din nou la TNB‼️

S-au vehiculat informatii cum ca nu se mai tine manifestul, acestea sunt eronate!! Ne vom strange in fiecare zi pana la alegeri, see you there‼️

- if police violence, fie ne strangem toți armloc, fie dispersare daca dau cu gaze, but fyi they were really nice, they work by order and the order is to protect us din ce pare.

-nu-i lasam sa ne disloce. (worst case scenario)

- for extra safety puteti purta masti daca nu vreti sa va apara fata

- incercati sa lay low inainte si dupa, pancarte insemne ca sa nu fiti usor de reperat and stick to places cu jandarmi and most importantly impreuna.

- be aware of ur surroundings, nu lsati oameni sa mearga singuri cu politia, filmati daca e ceva.

- again "theres no organiser", "s-a spus la protest sa venim azi"

- daca vreti sa reprezentati studenti si sa fie asta un statement puteti sa va organizati niste pancarte si sa stick together as a group.

Please refer to this document for a list of chants during the protest:

Chants anti C.G.
Google Docs

Would appreciate if people reblog this version instead

Since I've covered the presidential elections and the candidates which are the most important and have the most chances in getting to the second part of the presidential elections, I think I can move on to the second election that is going to take place between the two parts of the presidential one.

B. The Parliamentary Election

This election will be held on 1st December, which is also Romania's national day. Most of the parties which you will be able to vote for are led by the candidates I mentioned earlier.

PSD, led by Marcel Ciolacu. Socialist party, wouldn't necessarily fuck up our country that bad, but it wouldn't be good either. Would most likely become allies with PNL.

2. PNL, led by Nicolae Ciucă. Liberal party, exactly the same as PSD, though it would be a slightly better choice. Would most likely become allies with PSD.

3. USR, led by Elena Lasconi. Democratic party, would be a good choice for the country since we could expect quite the change from them. I would say it would be harder for them to become corrupt and obsessed with money and I also think it would be good for a lot of things, amongst which are our rights, education, medical care and better infrastructure. I'm not saying it's the best, but compared to other parties, this one seems amazing.

4. AUR, led by George Simion. Nationalist party, bordering on fascism. Would be awful for our rights, relations with other countries and life quality in general. I believe they would be almost equivalent, if not worse, than what was experienced during the communist epoch in Romania.

5. SOS Romania, led by Diana Sosoaca. While Diana is not in the run to become president, she is an in the European Parliament, though the way she got in there is a complete mystery to me. Nationalist party, exactly the same as AUR, but Diana somehow makes it worse. Don't ask how, I hate her. Fascist party, rusophiliac, anti-NATO and other similar things. Would also be terrible for Romania.

These are the main 5 parties of which you should be aware when you go to cast your vote. When you do, I hope you think well about what type of future you expect from each party and about the future of thousands of people, children and adults alike.

I am but a scared teenager in the midst of a country full of corruption and ruin. Don't make me suffer more, please.

hey ignore this if it's rude but i don't really know where else to ask. i'm a romanian citizen who doesn't speak the language so finding articles about the elections that i can understand is hard, if you know anything would you mind explaining or summarizing it? i know this is a lot to ask, sorry if i imposed

Hello! This is not rude at all and I'm glad you reached out. I can explain about the presidential elections and the parliamentary elections quite a lot. You're not being rude at all, something like this takes effort. Once again, I'm glad you reached out.

A. The Presidential Elections

This election will be in two parts. The first part will have all candidates, who I will talk about. This will take place this weekend, on Sunday, 24th November.

The second part has only the first two candidates, meaning the ones who gathered most votes, from the first part. This will take place on 8th December.

The candidates, who I've put in the order they will be on the ballot

1. Elena Lasconi

This lady is supported by a democratic party. She is 52 years old and she was a journalist for 25 years, during which she took on social articles and causes. In 2020, she left journalism for politics and she became a mayor of a small town.

She has progresssive views, even if she isn't very experienced in politics, but she could give us, as a country, time to get better and have less thiefs and less corruption. She is a good choice, even if she has been dragged through Hell by journalists.

2. George Simion

This man is supported by a nationalist party. He is 38 years old and he was (and still is) an activist for the unification of Romania with the Moldavian Republic. In 2019, he made the AUR party, which he rules.

He's quite the extremist. He wants to bring back the traditional family, saying that a woman has no rights, he wants to kill the hungarians that live in Romania and he has instigated violence and hate. He's been banned from Ukraine and the Moldavian Republic because of his hateful instigations. Quite the controversial man.

3. Marcel Ciolacu

This man is supported by a socialist party. He is 56 years old and he missed the entrance exam to the Law university. His party is mainly supported by old people who are nostalgic and miss the communist times. He doesn't even speak romanian correctly. He should know about politics, given that he's been in the domain for at least 10 years.

He has socialist views and slips a lot when talking. He didn't really show up for some important debates, unlike Lasconi or other candidates. I don't really know what to say about him other than that he hasn't even finished all 12 grades of school.

4. Nicolae Ciucă

This man is supported by a liberal party (although the party had an alliance with Marcel Ciolacu's socialist party for QUITE some time). He is 57 years old, a military general that promised to not get into politics after retiring. Guess what. He's been in politics for 5 years now. He has an autobiography. He was accused of plagiarism on his doctoral thesis.

His views might depend on what's good for him and I think he might lie about some things. Again, I don't really know what to say about him other than I believe that he would be easy to corrupt.

5. Hunor Kelemen

This man is supported by a democratic party that mainly sipports hungarians. He is hungarian himself, 57 years old and he used to be a veterinary doctor, who studied philosophy. He has 2 poem books and a literature book published. He lies quite a bit about why he candidates, saying that he wants to do justice in the country, when in reality, all he wants is to give his party a way to get into the government and senate.

All I can say about him is that he doesn't really have chances of getting into the second part of the presidential election.

6. Mircea Geoană

This man is not affiliated with any party. He is 66 years old and studied engineering and was an engineer for a short while. There are rumours that he had contact with russians and that he was a spy for the romanian secret services.

He has democratic views, but he doesn't really have chances, due to his old age, affiliation with the russian services and the fact that he isn't supported by any party.

I will add more aboit the elections, but I am in a rush right now. I will complete this in a few hours.

However, I will give you a link to all the candidates and their presentations. It is in romanian, but you can use Google Translate to translate it in your language. I promise I will finish talking about this, but I really have to get somewhere.

Hope this helps. My best bet is Elena Lasconi.
