Tenko tried to copy that beautiful shot of Nine's hair dramatically blowing at the wind.
But it didn't work.
Sorry Tenko but your hair looks like the mop that nobody replaced in more than five years.
You could never compare to Nine's ethereal beauty 🤍🌩
It's a shame Nine was mostly ignored by the fandom, but it's understandable considering HR was released during the time MVA was at it's peak of hype and everyone treated it like the 2nd coming of Christ.
Also if you're a movie character isn't like people is going to remember you very much, expect for Rody Soul, while the others like Melissa or the Shimano kids have a little niche of fans but that's it.
But it's funny how years later there was a resurgence in the talks of how the main villain should have been and Nine got a lot more of appreciation recently, cause compared to Shigaraki and AFO his characterization feels way more solid despite he having much less content.
Also people generally accepts Nine showed to be a better fighter and more skilled user of the properties of AFO (the quirk). To add to the irony.
You know? It's kinda of funny how LOV fans treat the whole "I want to be a hero for villains" of Shigaraki as something groundbreaking, when the same concept was already introduced in the series (and was done better) with Nine.
Unlike Shigaraki, Nine literally meet his team members when he saved their lives. In Chimera's case it was when a bunch of racists were about to execute him just for being a mutant.
Nine also was a hero for them in a more thematic level, as he not only save their lives but actually give his team mates a reason for live and fight. He offered them the chance to fight for create a better world. For me it's quite remarkable how Nine despite being a homeless and chronically ill person, go for save people he view as equally oppressed by the world.
He was selfless enough to sacrifice his own health using his quirk to save Chimera despite it was destroying his body, and without expecting nothing in exchange for share a dream Nine a hand to people at their lowest point.
That's much more of an "All Might for the villains" or whatever Horikoshi tried to make Shigaraki in the final moments. Or hell Nine even acts better as a foil to Deku in the sense both are selfless individuals who fight despite their bodies are crumbling, just for the save of the persons who are important to them.
How ironic is that Nine, the original movie villain that was supposed to be just a prototype for the "final villain" of MHA, ended executing the same themes way better than Shigaraki.
Hi @nyc3 👋
A main reason as to why people treat shigaraki's I want to be a hero for the villains ideology better than nine's is simply because I assume a lot of people forgot the plot of the 2nd movie or haven't read the one shot manga chapter mha leauge of villains undercover. All of this is a shame because I heavily agree that nine's version of I want to be a hero and hope for the villains is executed and built up 10000x times better than shigarakis and nine had a fraction of the screentime that shigaraki got which is saying a lot.
Actually rewatching the film and rereading the manga one-shot has showed me that nine and shigarakis arcs are pretty similar with nine's having a better execution and shigaraki having more wasted potential.
The movie sets it clear that nine and shigaraki are supposed to be foils for one another so it makes sense that they would share parallels. However, you would expect that by the time nine is defeated that shigaraki would naraatively prove to us that he is ultimately the better character but in truth he doesn't and nine's downfall by shigaraki ends up being quite disappointing to me.
Another problem within the narrative is also the lack of interactions that nine and shigaraki have. I think that nine is essential to helping shigaraki and start to infulence him to realise that he is just a puppet and should develop a goal outside of just destruction. If shigarakis goal stays as destruction then the destruction of what? Everything? And how would that benefit anyone including him?
Nine like you said meets his teammates and saves them. He sees his teammates suffer like him and chooses to help them and they choose to help him. There is a clear relationship being developed and all the characters come together for the same goal, with similar backgrounds and varying styles yet they work.
When nines team see him in distress they run to help him and vice versa. The team has trust and overall everything that a lot of the leauges dynamics and development lacks.
Nine seeks destruction but his path is clear. He seeks to liberate and let nature flow its course with the strong overtaking the weak and finally being leaders instead of feared and abused because they don't fit into the small little box that is the mha's status quo. Nine plans to get stronger while being fully conscious and knowing the consequences. He makes a logical and heroic decision where we see him realise that he is trading his own autonomy and agency in becoming a lab rat all in exchange for power and a slim chance at achieving his goal.
This is all contrasted with shigaraki and his actions. We don't see his goal of destruction develop into a much more consistent and precise idea like destroying the giver and status quo. We don't see shigaraki fully conscious to come to the conclusion that yes the doctor is evil but he needs power. We lack everything from shigaraki and the information of chapter 419 just makes his character worse as shigaraki was a lab rat through and through.
Horikoshi tries to make shigaraki the better character but nine outclassed him in every way possible from the traumatic beginnings, to the developed flawed goal and to the final bitter end where we see nine crumble due to various factors 1)shigarakis decay and 2) his illness whereas shigaraki dies due to afo still being a lab rat that fulfills his purpose.
All of this reminds me of the ask that said mha's manga ending is a sloppy edited 2nd movie ending (except I was only looking at it from a hero perspective but it even applies to the villains)
I mean your version of Dabi certainly has more going to my own, so that's complex in my eyes.
Not gonna lie, the genderbend for certain characters has a lot of charm and can see the appeal. I didn't see many female Midoriya, but I read a couple of stories when he is a trans woman and it was actually interesting and relatable, so anything it's possible.
I have a similar concept for Katsuma (the kid from the 2nd movie) in fact, if you want I can explain more of this later.
And your AU presents a more interesting spin of the tired "quirkless people only exist to be oppressed" and cheap sob stories, so that's alreaey a good signal.
Kinda like the idea of Midoriya doing photographer work. Question: does she work with that photographer guy who appears in the original anime episode from season 4? He seemed like a such nice guy in the only time they spend together, and is a shame he never was used again in the story.
I like how Dabi still acts a bit like a weirdo around fem Midoriya, as let's be real you can't expect a totally normal approach on relationships from him.
And the whole deal of her entering the yakuza world for Eri is also a good revision of similar concepts I've seen many times before, but they don't fully exploit the possibilities of the setting. Kai would have something to say about quirkless people in this story? I always find strange how his canon self never seems to comment about them...
I'm not even the biggest fan of Dabi in terms of looks, but always found very weird how the anime constantly makes him look way more defined and with bigger muscles than he has in the manga.
Isn't a bit contradictory for his character to look super ripped? Horikoshi clearly drawn Dabi in that specific way because the story makes emphasis on his body being more frail due having a weak constitution, also contrasting him to the rest of mens in the family who got the big and strong constitution of Enji, Natsuo especially. The anime just lose all the meaning behind that.
And this is more of a personal preference but I find Dabi's body in the manga to look much more attractive and less generic than in the anime. Skinny guys can look attractive as well.
Hi @nyc3
Thanks for the ask bc it's so fitting as I was thinking about how the fandom sees dabi and mr. Possum.
Let me start with this. Have you seen how in the Tumblr the tags of dabi x reader and shig x reader there a HUGE contrast in quality? Shig is depicted as a creepy and weirdo incel while Dabi IS "I'LL STEAL YOUR WIFE😏"
now on a controversial take. I do like the idea of dabi losing his scars. Why? Would increase his quality of life...I find odd how everyone in LoV accepts Dr. Evil's word and never try to take a second opinion. Also, without the scars Dabi would look way more like Endy making his claim be more powerful.
(not a fan of erasing Shig's scars nor the "crusty" jokes. Shig is handsome with his scars)
Now onto your ask: I think Bones just like to make characters hot in a conventional way, JJK men got to be hotter than the manga. But I do notice how bones lacks in translate the manga to anime. Some of the scenes of the manga were done so dirty.
Dabi became hotter aka buffer bc of this. Btw, many dabi x reader like to make the reader have a healing quirk (it should be a trope by now) just so it can heal dabi...which no one account that dabi IS self destructive, a healing quirk is nice but he would do again...unless he changes his mindset (I'm trying to explore this in my fic called besties)
Ask yourself: did shig NEEDED to be buffaraki? Was afo the quirk really need you to be buff?
(was necessary for Izu to gain muscles? Maybe, maybe not)
So to answer: Dabi is attractive in any shape. His writing trumps over shig any day even if shig IS more attractive than Dabi.
I wouldn't call everyone in MHA handsome (look at Spinner).
But yeah... something really funny about lov stans is that they don't seem to like the canon characters they claim to love, they only are fans of these weird idealized fanon versions of a bunch of psychos and surprise surprise, they get a bit mad when Horikoshi doesn't follow their weird headcanons.
Have you ever wonder why lov stans were so mad when Dabi the maniac serial killer didn't turn to be a secret knight in white armor who fight for his family and is a sjw? His fans eated his fanon version for so many years that eventually accepted that as real, and got a breakdown moment when the canon Dabi was nothing like the fanfics.
Compress on the other hand doesn't even have much of a fanon identity either. Aside of the "dad" jokes he's kinda ignored.
I wish the concept of the grandson of a villain Robin Hood from the old tines was used for a hero instead, that would be an interesting spin for a character who wants to "correct" the legacy of his bloodline.
Have you ever think on how rewrite Compress?
Like I've always thought he must be one of the worse written characters in this series, and that's saying a lot when your writer is Horikoshi.
Outside of being handsome under that stupid outfit and his quirk, everything about Compress is kind of lame. Many other characters have similar concepts but much better execution.
I have some ideas to change his entire role, but nothing serious yet.
Hi @nyc3
Glad you ask bc...I never really gave much thought on Compress. Yes, he is handsome (everyone in MHA is handsome but Izu who Hori says is a gag character) but the man is ...meh, to me. Lov stans go nuts and call him the "dad of the group" and jokes aside....
He isn't even remotely close to be on this label. Kuro? I get it (even if Shig is uncaring for the Nomu. I get why, more or less, I mean I can imagine it's bc how Kuro was passive in the whole shit afo did...but shig still remain faithful to afo) but Mr. Compress is nothing.
Yes, he says one nice thing to Toga (another nutcase) but this is nothing. I do admit lov can work with each other and it's more than Izu gets...but that's the bare minimum.
So no. Mr. Compress is just a big nothing....but he is handsome.
At least he isn't a Spinner.
Dont be a Spinner.
Geten as the 5th sibling feels correct.
siblings
I guess AFO would be equivalent to that leader guy of the Team Rocket, always failing on get valuable and rare pokemons because of his dumbass goons (the lov).
And I remember seeing long ago a comparision between Nine and MewTwo, which let me thinking about how both characters would interact. It would be interesting for sure.
Geten being the third wheel in every universe is destiny it seems. Meanwhile his bro and Izu are happy doing their own thing.
Any crossover between MHA and other franchise you like?
Hi @nyc3 funny you ask me this bc I was thinking about an au where Izumi is in a pokemon world. Srsly!
Izumi is a poke trainer, she has eevees and eeveelutions (I think it fits here. One Eevee can be anything just like Izumi)
And well Cinder menages to steal a gym becaming a gym leader (people like him better lol) and well, things happen.
On a broad side, I don't have much crossovers for mha. They work fine as they are...they just need a good writing.
No, only Nine dies in the movie because you know... crusty bitch killed him in a very cowardly move.
His team likely will never know what happened to him and that's both sad an frustrating to know because they loved Nine as a family.
I will not reveal what ship is valid for Nine yet.
Looking at the characters pages in the Volume Rising extras, I notice an interesting detail about Slice's background.
Now I'm aware this is a rough translation by google, but it's interesting that Horikoshi explicitly describes Slice as being used by "men".
Which could also connect with this panel from Nine's origin backstory, in which Slice is seen lying on the floor of a destroyed apartment looking totally defeated and helpless.
As far I know this is the only time a female character (and a villain for that mattter) in the series is written with an explicit background about being used and possible exploited by mens, implying a context of misoginia.
Which also makes me wish we had more context about Slice relationship with Nine and the rest of the crew.
How she pass from not trust anyone to be fully concerned about her team? (All being mens).
There's a lot of potential to developed their relationship there.
But an important note: I don't see Slice devotion to Nine and his ideals as romantic, not at all like much people like to interpret just because she's a woman. I feel that kinda goes against her characterization, considering Nine probably was the first man she ever trust but unlike others he wasn’t a lover or anything, but a savior and a true friend/family.
Horikoshi also says on Slice character page that Nine asked her about her quirk first and he values the name of it over actual names (which btw adds to Nine's own characterization considering he doesn't have a real name). I like to think it might be one of the reasons of why Slice trust so much on Nine's vision for the world, as he probably give a new meaning to her life other than being a pretty face and help her to value her own power.
Megumi got this for his room:
Eepy baby
I only lament Nagant didn't have a final exchange with Chisaki after all their time together ane dynamic. Don't really ship them that much, but their relationship can be interesting.
I don't think Cider is a guy who gives much attention to what happens in social media tbh, that goes for him or other villains.
That being said I would find funny if he's supper popular on the MHA equivalent to TikTok, as I said before irl he got a lot of attention from that platform. I've seen a lot of clips and edits of him, especially after his cameo post war.
His line "I'm a man who lives for the thrill" lives in my mind now. Rent free. He is a bold but smart man.
I was wondering...what it he goes to steal smth in UA? Not sure on what he could steal but hey why not? That would be a huge blow to their egos.
Plot twist. Izumi beats him first and she is the one to invade UA and stole SMTH - it was crucial for her plans- BK tried to downplayed so hard but hates how everyone is impressed.
No idea of what he would steal, but if he and Izu converge the same day with the same plan of steal some shit and they're like "wtf are you doing here?".
They almost start fighting but then Bakugou appears and tries to capture them screaming "Die!" as usual, but then Izu and Cider join forces and humilliate BK in public in the U.A grounds. A hard hit for his ego.
That would be also a moment for fall into a spiral of love and horniness for our thiefs.
Add me on discord as "alka07783".
I don't use discord that much these days because the app changed for worse since the first time I've used it, and just lack of interest compared to my other social media.
...
I'm sorry to hear that about your beta reader. That's a really awful behavior, but I'm sure you will get a new one soon.
Still excited to read your take on this ship and the AU you made for it.
OK FINALLY I FINISHED
Chapter 1 of the most heroic villain is done, holy shit I did this in two days. (laughs awkwardly at the grammar, thank god I have a beta) OK, I LOVE THE LITTLE HINTS OF THIS SHIP (ok just saw my beta block me on Discord and on Tumblr, it's bc I ship sgdk I bet but wow so I have no beta anymore...ok,)
A bit sad but oh well, life goes on. Do you want to see Chapter 1?
I do like how both Cinder and Izumi have anonymity at their disposal, yes people know Cinder exists but they do not know what he looks like or have any info- can´t help to contrast with POSSUM that blows the element of surprise for...nothing.
Izumi is very nonchalant about hearing how Usagi is a hot topic.
I kind of like that, she doesn't give a damn for fame.
Oh great!
Congratulations for your first chapter. I would love to read it.
Also it's fun because you technically made the first story ever of this ship.
Btw I also have discord in case you want chat there.
If Aizawa says no he probably gets fired
i like how Aizawa is just okay with Nezu being there
