The thing is all characters are plot devices. All characters are created to tell a story and to progress that story. Within the telling of that story any created character has no agency. They are at the whims of the writer. So saying you dislike a character because they feel like a plot device is kind of redundant. I'm not saying you should like Law. It's perfectly fine to not like him, especially with that point you made about not relating to him. Being able to relate to a character is the biggest reason why most people would like said character.

the way reigen quit smoking because mob started hanging out at the office. and actually gives really really good advice. and helps mob with his powers. and his confidence. and still helps his customers even though it’s not the way they think. and is. IS A GENUINELY GOOD GUY.

he’s actually one of my all time favorite anime characters. he’s the only character i’ve ever heard say “it’s okay to run away” and he literally attacks extremely powerful antagonists who could easily kill him just because he doesn’t want kids to have to fight / mob to use his powers to hurt people.
