HE TWERKED. THE MADLAD TWERKED. HERMES TWERKED
The most obnoxious thing my writing teacher taught me every story needed, that I absolutely loathed studying in the moment and that only later, after months of resisting and fighting realized she was right, was something called the causal chain.
Simply put, the causal chain is the linked cause-and-effect that must logically connect every event, reaction, and beat that takes place in your story to the ones before and after.
The Causal Chain is exhausting to go through. It is infuriating when someone points out that an event or a character beat comes out of nowhere, unmoored from events around it.
It is profoundly necessary to learn and include because a cause-and-effect chain is what allows readers to follow your story logically which means they can start anticipating what happens next, which is what is required for a writer to be able to build suspense and cognitively engage the audience, to surprise them, and to not infuriate them with random coincidences that hurt or help the characters in order to clumsily advance the author's goals.
By all means, write your story as you want to write it in the first draft, and don't worry about this principle too much. This is an editing tool, not a first draft tool. But one of the first things you should do when retroactively begin preparing your story to be read by others is going step by step through each event and confirming that a previous event leads to it and that subsequent events are impacted by it on the page.
Rereading Harry Potter trying to figure out what makes him special. Is he charismatic? Kind? Perceptive? Is he a talented leader, is he smarter than he looks, is he a gifted ——? Nothing’s catching so far, which is a problem if I’m gonna write anything respecting him, his attitude, and his status as the Chosen One.
Any input, guys?
Most important: Spend the money you have on a motel. Churches probably will not actually help and shelters can be dangerous or turn you away. At a motel you have free breakfast, access to running water, and a lockable place to sleep. Do not waste money on a gym membership like the popular version of this post says to do, YMCA memberships are like $40.
2. Contact family and friends. Now is not the time to worry about being a burden. Your survival and safety comes first and that is all that matters, anyone worth having in your life will agree.
3. Start a gofundme. Even if someone can’t offer you a place to stay, they might be willing to toss out $5 so you can eat today.
4. Libraries have free wifi. Apply to any and all jobs you can think of if you aren’t already working.
5. Any home is a good home. Even if it’s a dingy apartment in a bad neighborhood. If its cheap and you can afford it, snatch it up.
6. Pancake mix and peanut butter are filling, cheap, and last a long time.

Shazam AU, where Billy keeps his powers even when he’s not Shazam. The only reason he turns into Shazam is to keep a secret identity. Imagine a villain “depowering” him, only to get curbed-stomped by a 10-year-old.

ughhh there’s this ONE post on tumblr i’m looking for:
- It was DPXDC
- It was about Danny “haunting” the Bats
- Jason had this doll (Danny) since before he died
- He starts saying some very weird things that lead to the other Bats thinking that he’s committing domestic abuse (he’s not)
- examples include: chaining up Danny in a cupboard
- Alfred (or Bruce?) clear it up.
- Tim takes a photo near the end of it, and you can see Danny (as a real person, not a doll) in the photo and everyone booking it out of there.
“It doesn’t count,” she murmured. “Not if all he knows is the perfect persona. That’s not me. Do you get what I mean?“
Adrien’s words flowed out of him without real thought, his tone casual. He was still reeling. "I’m a model, Ladybug. I know exactly what you mean.” She stilled, studying his face with growing horror. He patted his own chest. “This is not me. I’m not perfect and warm and kind. I get jealous and mean just like everyone else. I can be impulsive and make stupid mistakes too. And no one knows that.”
–from a witch’s familiar by @metawohoo this scene filled me with a mighty need to do some ladrien yesterday. i swear there’s so much potential for delicious angst in this ship, i love it. ;0;
