Listen, someone(s) on Frederator Studios had bills to pay when they made Marshall Lee from Adventure Time.
Judge me all you want but we all know they did NOT have to make him so freaking fine. And the fact Donald Glover was cast to voice him? Just take my all of my internal organs please.
Marshall could suck all the blood out of my body and I'd thank him.
Don't even lie, Marshall Lee was an awakening for a good portion of y'all.
I'm legit starting to think I ship Amanene more than Hananene. I know that's gonna ruffle some feathers but here's why.
And just for clarification purposes, I'm talking about Amanene from a very general standpoint in terms of dynamic. As much as I'd like to include the picture perfect Amane, it was still Hanako putting on a manipulative front in order to keep Yashiro imprisoned in a state of immortality against her will. And yes, I know it's because he 'cares so much' but kidnapping is still kidnapping bro.
For me, I think the reason why Amanene has more appeal to me is because they offer a glimpse into what Yashiro and Amane would have been like if they were both alive in the same timeline. It's Amane just being himself---no mask, no duties, nothing that forces him to be someone or something else---it's just HIM. And while I very well could be making a stretch of things, I believe it's why I like the concept of Amanene so much. It's kind of a better "What if?" situation whereas the picture perfect arc was plain WandaVision (which I also made a post regarding that point).
And sure, one could argue that Hanako was relaying true parts of himself during the picture perfect when he was posing as Amane (seeing as he legit asked her out to a movie and confirmed it was a date). But if we're talking Amane completely unmasked, the true version of him---I think the dynamic between him and Yashiro would've been really cute. If there was a spinoff or AU where it was Yashiro and Amane interacting regularly, I would eat it up because I am a SUCKER for the shy guy x tough girl trope.
I truly think that if such a thing were to be made, it'd make complete sense for Amane to be the shy and reserved kid (no durr, look at the poor guy's backstory) and that Yashiro becomes one of the few---if not only---people to defend and accept him for who he is. And since it's canon that Amane has always had a thing for um...thick legs, I don't think it'd be off par for that to also be a reason he'd fall for her.
There's so much cute material that could come out of Amanene and as much as I enjoy Hananene, Amanene (to me) feels like an objectively more adorable and less morally gray dynamic that I (personally) have not seen experimented with often.
But I dunno, I guess it's just me---
I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR A WHILE NOW, THANK YOU SO MUCH, I'M SO TIRED OF THE DEFENDERS, OH MY GOSH
I still to this day do NOT understand how people defend Hanako in this scene.
Honestly just this entire scene I found SUPER disturbing and I don't understand how anything defends this...
Everyone's argument is "oh but he loves Nene" or "he's just misunderstood"
Like- tf is there to misunderstand in this??
He tells Nene straight to her face that Aoi died and he DOESN'T CARE.
Nene even felt LIED to bc she thought Hanako and her were meant to be saving Aoi.
And before people say "Hanako didn't sacrifice Aoi!"
Yes that's true but he DELIBERATELY didn't do anything to prevent it and even let it happen on purpose bc it was convenient for him.
Both Hanako AND even the summery of volume 15 paint the picture of Hanako finding this CONVENIENT.
It's his literal JOB to intervene with stuff like this and he doesn't do it bc of his desperation to "fix" Nene's life span-
Even tho it was Nene's BEST FRIEND he didn't care...
But the thing is, is that Hanako does care but he ONLY cares about Nene and even so much so to the expense of even her loved ones
He even shows exactly what he told us in the beginning here...
He's says he "granted your wish" but Nene says it wasn't what she meant...
But it seems really similar almost like exactly what he told us in the beginning?
"You have to pay a suitable price."
A life for a life.
Nothing good comes from supernaturals and to date even now NOTHING good has come from the living interacting with the supernatural.
This scene for me just proves what Teru's been trying to tell us..."there's no such thing as a "good supernatural".
The Apothecary Diaries is finally available on Netflix and I fully intend to watch it like crazy. I watched a bunch of episodes in the span of one night and I can't even remember how many because I was just mindlessly clicking for the next episode.
I love Maomao as a protagonist SO. FREAKING. MUCH. SHE IS EVERYTHING I'VE EVER WANTED IN A FEMALE PROTAGONIST AND MORE.
Jinshi is...Jinshi.
I FREAKING LOVE GYOKUYOU, HER BABY, AND LIHUA.
I LOVE THIS SHOW SO STINKING MUCH AND I'M SO HAPPY I COULD FINALLY WATCH IT AFTER ONLY SEEING CLIPS ON YOUTUBE
"I don't like traffic safety earrings" my butt.
That's actually so cute and sad though, stop---
Hanako making himself the protagonist of the alternate world in the Picture Perfect arc will never not be funny to me.
Hanako actively makes himself the relatively popular boy who's good at sports, good at everything, gets to show off his intelligence, has a lot of friends, and those friends behave as his wingmen in helping him get the girl he wants. Because in that world, Aoi actively tells Yashiro that 'Amane' is a catch---meaning he actively set it up for Yashiro to eventually relent into going out with him. I'm pretty sure even in the anime, it even has Aoi (or the fake one anyway) say, "His height doesn't hold him back on the field"
Like bro's just making an advertisement for himself---
Of course this dude who's gone through most of his life with no one all of a sudden makes himself a beloved and well-known student who gets the girl. On one hand, it's funny---but on the other hand, it's low-key kinda sad, lol.
I legit hate it when people do this.
when they put freaky ah smut in the fluff tags 💔
I understand why Hanako does some of the stuff he does and I love this ship, but honestly? The things he does at times make me wanna find a way to revive him back to life so I can kill him my darn self.
Hahaha, she managed to fool you, didn't she?
But look, she already has Hanako, so why is she interested in other boys?
Does she already have it? Who said? I talked about it in this post, and I decided to talk about the way Yashiro likes to get the attention of our favorite ghost boy.
Think with me, the perverted boy who likes to flirt but doesn't show his feelings, he hides it, pretends that everything is just a joke. Wow, Yashiro kissed me on the cheek, I'm really red she can't see me like this
Do I think you're beautiful in that yukata? You look amazing, I can barely take my eyes off you, but I'd rather say that even radishes look neat.
Let's remember that she already got dumped by him, after all she took his confession in the tree seriously (although at the time she didn't like him, but she wanted a boyfriend)
So, from that moment on in her little head the thought was: He does these things, he hugs me, he helps me when I need it, he leaves me confused, but I know he doesn't really like me, or does he?"
Hahaha, doubt is always doubt. Yashiro likes to joke about this. She understands that Hanako wasn't interested because of the reject she got, but he kept acting that way. So she knows that he won't tell his how he truly feels, he won't even confess if he thought she was beautiful. (something he only did on the day of the kiss)
But the detail that Hanako can't hide, her expressions. Not only that, but his jealousy. Ah, these two, he even tries, sometimes he manages to hide his expressions from Yashiro, that's true, but the jealousy… Hahaha you understand, don't you?
She realized, he's jealous and she likes it when he's like that. She likes to show Hanako that other guys are interested in her. Firstly, because he is always making fun of her, and secondly, his jealousy is proof that there are genuine feelings there.
Do you feel jealous of people you don't like?
So what does Yashiro do?
Hahahaha yes, she makes him jealous on purpose and he always reacts. She usually says "I want to brag to him" Look Hanako, I went out with another boy, until you tell me what your real interest is I'll keep doing that. XD
Yes, she has that side, but let's admit that Yashiro likes to be courted. That's because boys don't usually do that to her, it's always Aoi, Aoi, right? A girl with low self-esteem whose biggest fear is that everyone calls her "radish legs" because the boys she likes reject her for that, doesn't lead you to think that she feels happy when people are interested in her even with those legs ?
And what does Hanako usually do?
This insecurity, this low self-esteem makes her want to be courted by several pretty boys, to prove that even though she isn't "perfect" she managed to find a pretty boy who liked her.
She literally says this
Imagine yourself in her shoes, where you have a best friend who everyone finds beautiful and confesses to, while you are constantly rejected for having (or not having) some characteristic that people don't consider to be the "standard" of beauty. So when you become interested in some people and finally find the courage to declare yourself, they reject you because of that characteristic.
You are not popular, but then, when that person who is not popular, just like you, pretends to like it and makes a false statement and still makes fun of it, you break.
The boy who is not your type rejected you, what will be left for you then? The boy who is not your type makes fun of the thing that makes you most insecure and sad, literally your nightmare in mirror hell. Why doesn't anyone talk about this?
But Hanako is joking.
Is it fun when people play with your feelings or physical characteristics that make you feel insecure? What do they call that? Oh! Bullying?
So how about I show you this little snippet from the pilot of how Yashiro feels when she hears this from the person she likes.
Didn't Hanako flirt with her? Didn't he falsely confess to her? Doesn't he make fun of her legs?
Do you understand the point now? Yashiro takes everything in a very comical way, but if you stop to analyze it, that's exactly what happens. A girl who is made fun of by boys, she wants to be loved by someone, anyone, because it seems like everyone rejects her. So, if I had thinner legs, or bigger breasts, they would like me… She wants to change her to please other people.
So Hanako, let's go back to him, you and I know that he makes fun of her to hide his feelings, but Yashiro took a while to notice that. So if he can do that, why can't she try to make him jealous?
She even allowed herself to fall in love with the boy who rejected her, who doesn't talk about his past, who is a ghost and a murderer and who keeps making fun of her, not to mention his possessive attitudes. A crazy brother and a dark past.
But in Hanako's defense, because I'm a fair person, I know he likes her the way she is, he really loves her and doesn't assume he likes her and makes fun of her to hide his feelings. Because he loves her legs.
But that is precisely the problem. The way he found to hide this hurts her. Why do you think she cried at the confession tree? Hanako wasn't using Yashiro, he thought she knew it was a simulation, but it hurt her because she felt like she was rejected once again.
He realized this, so he hugged her and asked her to stay. Hanako hiding his feelings ends up making the situation worse.
So come on, give her a chance. She is developing. She is learning what it's like to be in love and for the first time she is feeling loved by someone. “But we’re not a couple yet, we just kissed.” They didn't talk about it anymore, did they?
Does a kiss mean commitment? She wants to hear from him that she is his girlfriend. Until that happens, this will continue to happen
Because he's the one she likes to brag about.
Despite everything I've said, we still don't know if her attitude will change towards this and if she will completely lose interest in pretty boys and focus only on Hanako. I just wanted you to see her side, Hanako isn't the only one who has problems in this story, right?
Y'all can keep your emotionally constipated morally gray non-committal yet jealous shadow men. I want a dude to give me cuddles and help me build Lego sets.
I love gaining more reasons to stan Yashiro as a character 💗
Notice how just about every other apparition going after Nene has to dismantle her strength first? Ghosts---GHOSTS---have to make elaborate plans just to even GET TO HER because they know full fact she'll whoop they a---
It honestly shocks me how virtually no one in the TBHK fandom is talking about how physically strong Yashiro is. She is a lot stronger than we give her credit for.
Haters will call it glaze, but I call it appreciation.
Now, let me make this clear for anyone who wants to be like, "well, ackshually--" yes, I know that Yashiro doesn't have the same amount of physical strength as Hanako---of course she doesn't. Hanako, despite having the build of a stick, is capable of taking down entities twice his size with just his willpower and a knife.
Hanako has obviously had more than enough time to adapt to the world around him and thus got adequate fighting skills as a result of that. No question that Yashiro obviously is not on the same physical wavelength. But y'all aren't going to gaslight me into saying that Yashiro can't throw hands.
Sure, we can argue that some of these moments were for comedic effect, but I don't think it downplays her feats here. She might not have Isekai level fighting skills, but she knows how to get rrready to rrrumble.
Heck, from the very start when her and Hanako's bond was first officialized by the mermaid scale, Hanako teases her (like the jackoff he is) and Yashiro responds by elbowing this nickel clean in the NECK. In fact, she elbows him so hard, it KNOCKS him over into the DESKS.
Yes, we could also argue in this moment that Yashiro didn't mean to actually hurt him since she didn't know she could touch him. But the fact she even still threw hands at him says quite a bit to me.
In fact, the added notion that she thought she COULDN'T harm him makes it more effective in displaying her strength in being able to fully topple this boy over. Because if that's what she was gonna do ironically, how strong would she be if she were to seriously throw hands? (Don't worry, that question is answered later in this post)
Yashiro since then continues to throw hands with Hanako whenever he gets on her nerves. She beats on Hanako nearly every other crescent moon, but Hanako deals with it because he's a masochist. There's no other explanation I can provide for why he lets her do this stuf to him.
There's no way he's NOT actively letting her hurt him with the amount of physical strength Hanako clearly has and has been shown to have (this dude won a fight against floating scissors in the Misaki Stairs, for crying out loud---)
Did we forget that time in the spinoff manga where she managed to pin him down to the floor with a MOP?
Or what about that time Yashiro heard him talk about her and so she defied physics and attacked from the side HEAD FREAKING FIRST?
"Oh but that's just her and Hanako's dynamic--"
Fear not, dear reader, because there's many more instances of Yashiro casually flexing her strength and agility.
There was a time within the Misaki Stairs arc where Yashiro literally runs and glides across a DOLL to jump up, then lands perfectly, and reaches Yako's yorishiro. Even Hanako was shocked.
Oh, that's not enough?
Well, let me introduce you to a (not-so) wonderful being known as Nakahara from Chapter 115, who pinned Yashiro to a wall and she (rightfully) responded by UPPERCUTTING HIM from the JAW, doing a FRONT FLIP across the guy's CHEST, landing on the floor perfectly, and speeding off away from him.
Comedic, exaggerated, or not, you can't deny that's some pretty impressive stuff.
I don't care what no one says, Yashiro can throw hands when it counts.
Bro for real said "I can do both"
so i just read the new firefly wedding chapter.
