The Pig In Princess Clothing

The pig in princess clothing

Once upon a time there was a pig who was shunned by all. Not wanting to face the truth she made a fantasy world where she was a princess who had everything their heart desired.

Her parents who neglected all of this only encouraged her thinking that this would help their reputation.

They whispered pretty lies coated with sickening sweet honey dripping on every sentence, they used her delusions to fuel their writing.

The only one who cared about her was the Pig princess's handmaiden…but she soon disappeared

For the Pig's envy did more harm than good.

Wanting to save their own skin they sent the princess packing to a school far away

Now facing the truth of her situation the Pig had no choice but to pay for her misdeeds

She still has her delusions sometimes. But they're not as strong as they used to be.

If you notice the little detail of Styg and Lydia doing it in the pool is actually a shout out to LO Hades and Persephone doing it and the pool, And Talking bad about it could be a shout out to The unpopularloreolympus reddit

Heyyyy, some rando from Finland here to share a language fun fact: in the finnish language, we refer to pomegranates as granaatti omena (singular), which word for word means 'grenade apple'! Now have fun imagining Persephone with one of 'em. Have a nice day :D

"BUT IT'S A TERRIBLE SHOW!"

"DUH, WHY ELSE WOULD I WATCH IT?! IF I DON'T GET TO BE AMONG THE FIRST TO TALK SHIT ABOUT STYG AND LYDIA DOING IT IN THE POOL, THEN WHAT'S THIS ALL BEEN FOR?!"

I figured that since it’s now the festive season, I’d do a bit of Nutcracker AU art haha! Also I decided to change up a few of the designs for the characters in this AU cause I wasn’t too happy with them 😅

Interesting, I really like this post

i find it funny that one of rachel’s drawings of herself in the afterword that just went up is just fully persephone. is that something she does a lot?

Alright so I've been making it a general rule for myself to like, not harp on Rachel in any way outside of LO as much because frankly the horse is dead now and there's not much left to say outside of what can be analyzed in hindsight. I think despite everything I have to say about her and her work, she still deserves to get away from this nonsense and I don't wanna spend eternity hovering over her shoulder.

But the afterword was posted within the LO series and is clearly meant for readers of LO in the functioning of being an afterword so let's just call it fair game LOL

I will say, on the whole, it does feel very honest and sentimental and I can respect Rachel for taking the time to write out and illustrate her afterword in a way that was personal to both her and her fans. I can understand why she went at it from the angle that she did and I'm not gonna fault her for that.

But there's also something that feels deeply... disingenuous about her approach right from the starting gun. I will say, before I continue, that I'm well aware I am biased towards Rachel as a creator, and I fully acknowledge that I could very well be reading too much into things. This is just my opinion, take it with mountains of salt.

I can get looking back on your own childhood, your past self, whatever, and going "see! it all got better!" because sure! For a lot of creators like Rachel, it must be wild to look back on where they came from and there's a lot of sentimentality on expressing that through an afterword like this where she reflects on where she came from. Though she STILL didn't acknowledge her other comics outside of LO, I can understand if she wants to leave those skeletons in the closet.

But I feel like her drawing herself as a child who's being given an Eisner by her adult self and all that just feels like some gross attempt to disarm any criticism of her because "don't make fun of me, I'm just a sad lonely baby girl!"

She's not a child. Child Rachel didn't grossly misappropriate Greek myth into their own self-indulged vanity project. Child Rachel didn't claim herself a folklorist of a culture's works only to bastardize them completely. Child Rachel didn't create a hostile environment within her fanbase by bullying anyone who she perceived as a threat, sneaking into critical spaces to try and cause trouble, and writing her own clapbacks into her comic. Child Rachel didn't claim to be challenging misogyny and purity culture only to reinforce misogyny and purity culture through her own self-insert baby-virgin-gets-rescued-by-rich-tycoon power fantasy that regularly glorified abuse towards women and the lower class.

30-almost-40-year-old Rachel did though.

At best it comes across as really cringe sentimentality from a Greek-weeb (heh, greeboo) and goes to show how much Rachel inserted herself into Greek myth without ever absorbing its messages or cultural contexts, it was all about her and her feelings as a sad New Zealand girl with dyslexia who thought Persephone's story was about another sad girl being rescued from her "horrible childhood".

At worst it's an active attempt to play on people's heartstrings by drawing herself as a child who people will naturally not want to criticize. I don't want to assume she's doing it intentionally, I really don't want to leave her afterword on a bad foot, as I can definitely understand as both a creator and a person who struggled with learning disabilities in their own childhood how and why she wants to pay homage to her past and where she came from... but let's just say, as someone who's also gotten way too "lost in the sauce" concerning personal self-reflective projects, I think there's a lot to say about how this confirms that Rachel made LO entirely for herself, about herself, without any actual intention to respect the original myths, because she never truly separated them from herself when she was a child. And, in my humble opinion as someone who has Been There with the self-insert OC's and self-reflective angsty plotlines, I can fully attest to the fact that that's not fucking healthy. Even with personal projects, you NEED to learn to get your head out of the sauce, you NEED to learn to objectively separate yourself from the narrative so the story doesn't fall apart under your own hubris and ego, you NEED to learn to draw a line if you want to have any sort of identity as a human being outside of what you make for people. And that's with just normal original stories, this was a story based on Greek myth which doesn't belong to her.

And this goes for a lot of the things she's said and done in the past, so much of her own "sources" even are tethered to things that she read / watched in her childhood and only vaguely remembers, as if she never mentally left her childhood at all, which just... if the point was to highlight her past and the traumas she went through and how they contributed to her present, an Eisner isn't going to validate those experiences. And drawing attention to her past through the lens of her childhood self absolutely 100% does not absolve her of the negative effect her work has had on the modern Greek myth zeitgeist nor the things she's said and done as a 38 year old woman who should absolutely know better.

I Find It Funny That One Of Rachel’s Drawings Of Herself In The Afterword That Just Went Up Is Just

The community she entered and took from will forever remain changed by her influence and taking, in many ways not for the better. She has the privilege of walking away and never having to think about it again, with all the awards and accolades that were bought for her, the bravado that she built around being a "folklorist" with zero credentials, and the platform she was given over many other creators struggling to even be heard.

That "place" she claims to have now was built entirely on inserting herself into another culture's works and doing nothing but taking, taking, taking, while offering nothing in return but vanity and lip service. That "place" was paid for and brought to you by Webtoons.

Sunshine in Hell - Shaun's Cat Family

You know, after my last post, I got to thinking that Shaun definitely grew up in a house with cats. I have no doubts Leticia would've gotten herself at least one black cat to complete her witchy ensemble at some point, and Antwon is definitely a cat guy.

Baby Moon Pie might be Shaun's first furbaby, but he had himself a fair amount of fursiblings over the years. They may or may not be referenced in Sunshine in Hell, but it brought a smile to my face coming up with a few furry family members for Shaun. I figured someone else might find my funny feline indulgence entertaining as well, so I decided to make it into a ramble.

Yes, this is just a blatant excuse to play around with cat ideas and characters. I make no apologies for my undying love of cute kitties.

Duchess Dahlia Briar Binx the Second was the first in her line to greet Shaun upon his grand arrival, as he was born long after Duchess Dahlia Briar Binx the First sadly passed. She was an elegant, classy lady who upheld her title with grace. She was patient with baby Shaun and even treated him like her own kitten, often grooming him when they snuggled. Though she wasn't able to keep up with his high energy most of the time once he started walking.

Duchess Dahlia Briar Binx the Third arrived years later around when Shaun was in his teens. She didn't try to match the class and grace of her predecessor bestowed with the honored title, but she left a mark with her spunk and attitude. Despite being a tripod with only one back leg, she loved to show off her excellent sense of balance by perching high on ledges no one thought she could reach.

Her favorite game to play with Shaun was fetch, and no matter what sort of tricky throw he tried to stump her with, she always managed to retrieve whatever he tossed away, even if he didn't necessarily mean for her to bring it back. It was often a challenge trying to throw away peanut butter cup wrappers with this cunning duchess always on the prowl for a good game.

Ichabod was a sphinx with a few funny quirks. He was around during Shaun's young childhood to young adulthood. He claimed one of Shaun's beloved childhood stuffed animals as his own and would often walk around the house holding it in his mouth while making muffled meows. He would often spontaneously get the zoomies, scampering away for no reason known to anyone but him.

Ichabod got the affectionate nickname of "Thing" by Antwon due to his lack of fur and kooky personality reminding Antwon of the disembodied hand from the Adams Family. Shaun being young and just starting to read, mistook the reference his dad was making. This led to him calling Ichabod "Thing 1" and Duchess Dahlia Briar Binx the Second "Thing 2."

Fortunately the Duchess was in good humor about the association and allowed Shaun the Seuss-inspired nickname. Though she never deigned to answer to it, or to any name really.

Commander Salem came along around when Shaun was in middle school. He was a bit more standoffish, but a fighter who lived up to his bestowed rank. He was formerly black cat who earned his white streaks and patches through surviving three brushes with cancer and kicking its ass each time. He terrorized any stray or intruder that dared to come too close to his home or family.

When one of the neighbors decided to let their dog run wild, Commander Salem ran it off when it invaded their yard and tried to bite young Shaun. Antwon and Lecitia made sure to reward the commander with extra treats that night for his bravery, and Shaun made him a little gold medal with crayons and construction paper. The medal, sadly, didn't survive too long, as the commander also had a habit of chewing on paper and cardboard.

Gossamer, a chubby and lazy white cat with some gray blotches, earned himself the most nicknames of all the cats, which was a feat in and of itself. Gossy, Glossy, Goose, Goosey, Goosey Loosey, Golly Gosh, God Damn Unit, and Popcorn Paws were just a few of such titles bestowed upon this messy boy. While all of the cats earned a silly nickname or two, none could match his impressive collection of titles.

When Gossamer was not being lazy, he was living up to his nickname of Goose by being quite the terror. On many a lovely day, he could be quite a terrible Goose. (Yes, I had to throw in an Untitled Goose Game reference with that nickname.) Most messes in the house were the result of him getting his sticky popcorn paws into food he wasn't supposed to be eating or shoving stuff off of ledges to make room for him to sprawl.

Sadly, much like Shaun's human family, most of his feline family members are no longer around in the present day, though they all lived long and happy lives with him and his parents.

After Antwon and Leticia passed, their surviving furbabies went to family friends to take care of. Shaun would have taken in his furry siblings if he had the means to do so, but he was a broke college student at the time.

Duchess Dahlia Briar Binx the Third is the last of Shaun's fuzzy siblings alive and kicking in the present day. Shaun debated for the longest time if he should request her current owners give her back to him once he was settled into his own place. In the end, couldn't bring himself to uproot her life again during her golden years when she had bonded with her new family and new home.

Fortunately the duchess' owners servants allow Shaun to visit her whenever he wants for snuggles and a game of fetch or two. Being such close friends of Leticia and Antwon for many years before their passing, they also make sure to share a new story or two about them that Shaun hasn't heard yet. The visits are a bit bittersweet, but they remind Shaun of his life before the accident and help him feel just that little bit closer to his late parents.

Shaun also made sure to introduce Duchess Dahlia Briar Binx the Third to her new little niece, Moon Pie. After a bit of raised hackles and cautious sniffs, the duchess graciously approved of the new addition to their family. Moon Pie warmed up to the duchess immediately and it wasn't long before they were snuggling together during their first visit.

On that cute note, I think I'll wrap things up here, as that's about all the cat character ideas I have. For now. Maybe I'll have the urge to give Moon Pie a sibling sometime, or at least a friend or two. I know I want to give Alice at least one kitten eventually.

I hope you enjoyed this silly little self-indulgent post about getting to know some of Shaun's funny feline family!

I REALLY love the Persephone's Butterflies in this preview. Amazing really

there's no wrong answer here, i really just wanna gauge what y'all would rather get! <3

if we post the first half today it'll be up this evening, only caveat is that obv it means a shorter release (but we do get a couple fun character introductions within that time!) and that dillyhub won't get updated until the episode is fully completed after the second half (so if you're exclusively a dillyhub reader uhhh sorryyyyyy.... 😔😅)

whereas if we put off the update another week, it'll be more waiting, but you'll get the full 45+ panel episode from start to finish the way it was intrinsically designed !

obv perfect world would be the episode getting posted in full when it was due but 2025 is apparently dead set on throwing roadblocks at me so this is what we have 🥴 (i figure the least i can do is give y'all some choice in the matter of how we deliver the next episode, if anything at least to soften the blow LOL thanks y'all for putting up with meee)
