here is my one bit of wisdom as a 32 year old with no interest in being a "fandom elder" or "community mom" or whatever -

if someone a little older in your friend group takes care of things and has good advice to offer and whatever, and you all sometimes joke abt them being the mom friend, that's fine and normal

if someone self declares themselves as the mom friend, and begins to act like that is a role with actual authority, Fucking Run

I'm so extremely serious when I say doctors should be put through an extremely extensive reliscensing process every 10 years. Doctors should have their knowledge scrutinized against current medical research and be de-barred at even the tiniest discrepancy. Too many old doctors absolutely refuse to stay up to date on research and dismiss patients because of their personal experiences. Too many people die every year because doctors don't take us seriously and refuse to listen to people who KNOW something is wrong. Too many people are told their problems are nothing and come back in a year or more with serious illnesses and doctors are just like "lol everyone makes mistakes" but doctors mistakes routinely cost people their lives! I'm tired of medical malpractice being swept away under the guise of "mistakes were made."

Imagine if you had a neighbour who keeps performing songs from Phantom of the Opera in his apartment every night, by himself but accompanied by a parrot, which he has taught to sing Christine’s part. Admittedly it’s kind of obnoxious but you are far too baffled to even be properly annoyed. And also you don’t want to confront someone with that kind of power and determination. So every once in a while you just hear this guy dramatically bellow
