so judging by how astonished people are by it every time we explain it to anybody, it seems like my wife and I might really be onto something here

during the pandemic, we invented something we call "astronaut time."

when it's astronaut time, it's like we are two astronauts wearing the big helmets, moving around the station on totally separate tasks. one of us is outside the space station and one of us is inside the space station. our radios do not work and we have no way of communicating with each other. we might see each other through the lil porthole windows, but we ignore each other because we both have different things to do.

"astronaut time" is how we get total privacy when we live in the same apartment. I will pretend you don't exist. You will pretend I don't exist. we have a nonverbal, zero-contact signal for when astronaut time is over (usually "I'll draw a smiley-face on the whiteboard in the kitchen when I'm done"). No talking, stay out of each other's line of sight, we are actively avoiding each other, unless you are currently experiencing a medical emergency goodbye.

it has been. a godsend. imagine living with your partner and being able to close every single tab in your brain related to social interaction. no fear of being interrupted by a "hey, quick question--" or "sorry to bother you, but do you know where the scissors are?" or "did you want something to eat, too?" Once or twice a month, we look at each other lovingly, hold hands, and say "baby I think I need some astronaut time tonight," and the other person goes "okay cool. bye! have a nice night!" and nobody's feelings are hurt and we both go and have a lovely evening completely by ourselves.

like idk it's a small thing but it's made our lives so much nicer, so if you and your partner/roommate are both people who sometimes need total privacy in order to recharge, maybe try it

as an avid drawer of jason todd art, i’d like to imagine that Reader would create Red Hood merch. It started by releasing fanart through the internet, setting up digital merch, then onto physical merch.

they become an icon in Gotham.

What will they release next? Did u see the new merch drop? I want that new pin!

Gothamites whisper with one another in their string of merchandise. Wondering who was this anonymous artist?

It becomes a big hit and suddenly it gets to the point where the batfam roll their eyes at the absolute Red Hood empire it created. But what can they say? They don’t know where it originated, it could be Jason, himself, for all they know.

What hasn’t he done?

Then there sits Reader, hunched in their desk chair, in house slippers wearing a Red Hood emblem shirt and one of Jason’s shorts that is way too big. Comfy, unbothered, receiving a good morning kiss from Jason after returning from a night of patrol.

They save their work, shut off the computer, and climb into bed with a freshly showered boyfriend and sleep the morning away.

Not only are they compatible in personality, but their schedules too. An artist that has a hectic sleep schedule and a vigilante that isn’t any different.

Heads up, American women. They are trying to take our vote.

The bill H.R.22 has been introduced and it is currently being fast-tracked. The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act will require you to register in person from now on and with proof of citizenship documentation. You will now be required to provide your Driver's License and your Passport or Birth Certificate. The gotcha here is that you cannot register to vote if the documentation doesn't match- so, for example, if your birth certificate has your maiden name but your driver's license shows a married name, you'll not be able to register to vote without jumping through additional hoops (as to be determined by each state).

This will add significant barriers to voting for women, especially married women, poor women, rural women, disabled women and WOC, as updating/acquiring this type of paperwork costs money and time and is more accessible in some areas than others. They are using anti-immigration sentiments as a smokescreen for this legislation. Make no mistake, the only people who will be affected by this are American citizens. Non-citizens can't vote anyway. This only affects people who were able to vote before.

The main barriers here that will primarily affect women, especially already marginalized women:

Name matching: women who are married/divorced or who have changed their name for any reason

In-person meeting: Poor people, elderly, disabled, rural, isolated/abused women

Requiring Driver's License: Poor people, elderly, disabled

In general, requiring poll workers/DMV staff to check extra documents on or before election day will have a significant impact on poor and marginalized communities that are understaffed/under-resourced to fulfill these requests.

TDLR; the gov is attempting to make it significantly more difficult to vote if you are not a rich, white male. Bill H.R.22 will add significant barriers to voting for women, especially marginalized women. Please contact your House Representative and tell them that this bill cannot pass.

i don't think a lot of people genuinely get it because leftists aren't really good at articulating their intentions as a collective. we're much better at just being angry, lashing out and expecting people to catch on. so let me sum it up real quick if you don't understand the recent attitudes from those on the left:

leftists (communists, anarchists, socialists, etc.) recognize that Donald Trump is an existential threat who is tearing shit down and fast. however, as leftists, everything action undertaken is done so with a basic understanding of material reality. in other words, things like context provided from history.

the roadblock that currently exists is that, for several years (and for some, decades), leftists have been trying to explain to liberals that while Democrats, on the surface, do not use the same language and claim to be far different than the Republicans from the perspective of extremely important social issues, they ultimately fail the very underrepresented groups that they claim to support as a result of being effectively the same as Republicans from the perspective of two things that are far more complicated to explain to the average American citizen - economics and foreign policy.

the point is and has always been that the Democrats are ultimately servile to the same corporate interests and foreign backers as the Republicans. go look at Nancy Pelosi's stock activity. look at the companies that she owns stock in. you'll find they're the same tech conglomerates that people are leaving in droves and now calling an arm of Donald Trump's propaganda machine. this is not coincidental, nor is it wholly inaccurate. it would be more accurate, however, to say that that these corporations are an arm of the United States' ultra-capitalist propaganda machine.

the conclusion that this leaves most leftists reckoning with is that, as of today, there is no meaningful institution with the authority, resources, access, money, reach, etc. existing today who serves the interests of the people to form a resistance and put an end to all of this once and for all. there is no ADV or Communist Party of Germany like in World War II. progressive institutions have been gutted by both parties. progressive politicians have been blocked out of leadership roles in the DNC. all we have are a handful of essential grassroots socialist organizations that are in desperate need of resources and people.

therefore, we cannot move forward. we can form a decentralized effort to combat what we're seeing in waves - ICE raids and the like - but eventually, there will be too much for us to combat individually. if the Democratic party isn't coming to save us and they're the only ones who have the expectation of doing so, then you need to realize we need a fully-fueled alternative with some sort of extra-regional support to take their place. again, if you can't get on board with that, we cannot move forward.
