An example : one of the reasons why the maximum was adopted in September 1793 is because of the pressure of a large number of Sans Culottes who were even more to the left than him (more precisely when the Sans Culottes invade the assembly again) . He was not necessarily for the maximum but understood that he had to reconcile himself with the ultra revolutionaries who demanded it

P.S: This is not gratuitous Robespierre bashing just to explain one of his flaws outside of the black legend.
