oh also what was up with ben calling dave klaus’s ‘little vietnam fling’??? boy you could at least try and be a bit sympathetic
Tick tick tick I agree with everything you just said
What's your take of the whole Klaus and Dave thing. Like they're relationship, his death, the way Klaus deals with it, and Klaus seeing him in the 60s. I think they're amazing and deserved better, I also think it was some bullshit that Ben was like eW tHaTs StAlKiNg AnD iTs GrOsS aNd CrEePy. Thank you 🙂
It is maybe not my most woke take but I love all of it. Especially with the s2 development of Klaus saving Dave's life. But I'll go through point by point!
Their relationship: I think that their relationship is a testimate to the skill of the writers. They made us miss it, and they made it feel real. It's clear to me that Klaus loved Dave and Dave loved Klaus. The scenes we get of them in s1 are intimate and sweet and sexy and beautiful. I totally believe in them and that it happened, and I think emphasizing absence is brilliant.
His death: I've often said this is why Tumblr would deem me bad queer rep, but I like sad stories. I think Dave's death is fascinating and beautiful and it does seriously important work in s1 AND s2. In s1 it encourages Klaus to be more vulnerable and more actively caring, because that is who Dave was and Klaus sees he isn't like that. In s2, Dave's death drives Klaus to try and FAIL at being caring and selfless and open in a way that I think will ultimately lead to some very interesting destruction.
60s: I think having Dave be a baby this season was so, so smart. Klaus's best case scenario was that he makes it so he never meets the love of his life. Klaus is not happy and he isn't allowed to be. I think this is all leading to a snap. And I ultimately think it's leading to Klaus and Dave as endgame. I think it's gorgeous.
Ben has always used Dave to influence Klaus. In s1 he says that Dave would expect better of him than relapse, which isn't true. Dave loved Klaus as an addict and did not put stipulations on it. Ben uses Klaus's love for Dave to try to get what he wants, and then this season calls Dave a "Vietnam fling" and it is fucked! I like it a lot. I think it's great writing. Ben has been sidelined and used by Klaus in unfair ways and Dave is leverage and a way to hurt Klaus and it makes sense he uses it. That said, it's fucked and untrue. Klaus trying to save Dave's life without ever engaging with him romantically or sexually is not stalking. Klaus left him alone for 3 years. I think that the relationship between Klaus and Ben had degraded, possibly beyond repair. It fascinates me.
Imo, Klaus and Dave are endgame. We haven't seen the last of them, at the very least. I am excited by what comes next and I love what we've had before.

“Will women always die? Let some men die too,” Dogan told police. “I killed him for my honor.”
I have actual tears what the fuck is this
... oh shit
I’ve been thinking about how they ended Dave’s storyline this season and… well, I have some thoughts…
Dave is still joining the military, but he is joining a different branch. This likely means he won’t end up in the same place in Vietnam. (this is of course assuming that calling him a Marine was 100% intentional and not just an unintentional error, which is possible too, but let’s go with it being intentional) That means that Dave lives when he wasn’t supposed to, which has a couple side-effects.
1. Paradox. If Dave isn’t in that same company in Vietnam, then he never meets Klaus. More importantly, Klaus never meets Dave. He never falls in love, never sees Dave die, and doesn’t know to seek Dave out, which means Dave never enlists early and does end up in the Army instead, so Klaus does try to save him, so Dave enlists early in the Marines, which means… well, paradox.
2. Five and Diego both make the point in seasons 1 and 2 that every life, no matter how ordinary, can change history. (Diego comes right out and says it this season. Five just implies it when he plots to murder an innocent gardener in season 1) If that’s true, then Dave being alive is going to screw up the timeline.
Unless he is removed from it…
Now Dave could just be killed by The Commission this time around, except for the fact that The Commission is very low on assassins ever since Vanya wiped them all out. They need to rebuild and start recruiting again. And who better to recruit than a well trained marine who’s supposed to be dead anyway…
It will take a few years to get him trained up as a proper field agent, and then it’s time to set him loose to take care of a band of fugitives that keeps fucking with the timeline and instructions to take all 6 of them out before they screw up anything else.
Anyway, time to go write some fanfic.
Every writer inevitably gets to that scene that just doesn’t want to work. It doesn’t flow, no matter how hard you try. Well, here are some things to try to get out of that rut:
I know this doesn’t sound like it’ll make much of a difference, but trust me when I say it does.
Every single time I’ve tried this, it worked and the scene flowed magically.
If your book has multiple POV characters, it might be a good idea to switch the scene to another character’s perspective.
9/10 times, this will make the scene flow better.
Oftentimes, a scene just doesn’t work because you’re not starting in the right place.
Perhaps you’re starting too late and giving too little context. Perhaps some description or character introspection is needed before you dive in.
Alternatively, you may be taking too long to get to the actual point of the scene. Would it help to dive straight into the action without much ado?
If your scene involves dialogue, it can help immensely to write only the spoken words the first time round.
It’s even better if you highlight different characters’ speech in different colors.
Then, later on, you can go back and fill in the dialogue tags, description etc.
If nothing works, it’s time to move on.
Rather than perpetually getting stuck on that one scene, use a placeholder. Something like: [they escape somehow] or [big emotional talk].
And then continue with the draft.
This’ll help you keep momentum and, maybe, make the scene easier to write later on once you have a better grasp on the plot and characters.
Trust me, I do this all the time.
It can take some practice to get past your Type A brain screaming at you, but it’s worth it.
So, those are some things to try when a scene is being difficult. I hope that these tips help :)
giving birth sucks tbh. not only do you and the baby you’re birthing almost die, usually you shit yourself and often you tear your taint. then you have to push an organ out of your body (placenta) and if even a little of that remains in your body, you can hemorrhage to death or develop an infection that essentially rots your body from the inside out. even if you had a relatively “easy birth”, you bleed for weeks on end. even after that stops, your body and brain is changed for the rest of your life, the pregnancy leeched minerals from your bones, that can cause osteoporosis later. minor urinary incontinence is not uncommon, brain scans of people who gave birth show permanent changes in their brain, you’re never quite the same.
I say all of this not to say giving birth is disgusting but it is a harrowing and visceral experience. society downplays how fucking awful it is and makes it out to be a ~magical~ experience but it isn’t a magical transformative experience for everyone. it can be an extremely traumatic experience for someone who wanted to carry a pregnancy to term, much more so for someone who did not want to be pregnant in the first place or someone who knows their baby won’t survive the birth. anyway, abortion is a right. pregnancy and birth aren’t just inconvenient, it’s fucking awful.
Dave, to the other soldiers: I’ve only had Klaus for a day and a half-
Dave, pointing to Klaus: But if anything happened to him I would kill everyone in this tent and then myself.
