A while ago, I decided to watch every single animated DC movie and rank and review them. I’ve watched about 20 of them so far and I have all my reviews sitting in my notes app.

Imagine Tim talking to about how he was at the circus the night of the Flying Grayson’s

Tim: Yeah, I mean watching them die really helped shape me into who I am today

Dick: …that’s great Tim

Tim: Though if I’m being honest it kinda scarred me for life

I know this would probably never happen but it’s kinda funny to think about

Hi! I’m Quinn and I have a goal to watch and rank every single DC animated movie! I’ve watch over 20 so far but I just started posting my thoughts on Tumblr. Because I’ve watched so many, I decided to just post about the ones I’m currently watching! In my quest to watch all the DC animated movies, my next watch was Batman Vs Robin!

I liked this movie a lot more than I thought I would. I wasn’t the biggest Damian Wayne fan coming into this movie but honestly? This movie gave me more appreciation for him. I was honestly shocked to find out most people felt differently. A lot of people on letterbox’d were saying their opinion on Damian didn’t shift much.

I think that Bruce’s attitude shift towards Damian lacked some build up, it was definitely there but I felt there could’ve been more. In the movie’s defense, it’s only 80 minutes and there’s a lot of plot to cover. This being said, I LOVED THEIR INTERACTIONS. Oh my gosh it was so cute. Like that’s literally his baby.

DC does better with the pacing in this movie than it does with others. The middle kinda straggles a bit but the last third of the movie is so good it’s honestly worth it.

I also want to take a moment to appreciate the fight scenes. God this movie had such epic fight scenes. Even the sparring match between Dick and Damian was peak. Watching Dick fight was especially fun because they really utilized his acrobatic skills!

A couple of other things I want to add, I did not like the soundtrack. A lot of the music felt out of place and almost like something you’d hear in a YouTube video.

There was one specific plot line that didn’t add up, Bruce had a girlfriend who ended up being part of the court of owls, and she was two timing Bruce with Talon. Long story short Talon killed her, we never got a reaction from Bruce because he never found out, but it did feel like the two of them dating did absolutely nothing for the plot. It didn’t add any emotional stake or any sense of betrayal because…he just never knew? Honestly she could’ve just not been a member of the court and the story would’ve more or less stayed the same. It felt like she was thrown in as a last minute plot twist.

This is real nitpicky of me, but I want to comment on Damian’s relationship with Talon. There were no hints that Talon was manipulating Damian other than Bruce outright saying “Damian, he’s manipulating you” which does the job but I think there could’ve been a few more subtle hints dropped.

This movie may not be the best technical wise or from a writing point of view, but it’s so fun I don’t even care. his movie is probably definitely in my top 5 so far!

I decided to watch all the DC animated movies and rank + review them! The most recent one I watched was Justice League Throne of Atlantis.

My next watch: Batman Bad Blood

any thoughts on dick haunting the narrative despite being very much alive ?

See my favorite part about this is that Dick doesn’t haunt the entire narrative. Usually when he’s mentioned in other people’s comics (roy,Wally etc) it’s something like “thank god for dick Grayson” or “gee I sure liked working with nightwing” or even “damn I hate the fact I have to do this but nightwing asked and like he doesn’t do that” the same way all the titans reference each other.

You might get a bit more reverence out of like raven? Or Clark? Casually saying Dick Grayson is their favorite or something

But Dick Grayson specifically haunts things that are literally in anyway related to Bruce Wayne (including Bruce) and it’s entirely their fault.

Bc to haunt a narrative one must not be accessible in the narrative imo. And every single one of the bats is too chicken shit to have a normal human conversation.

Bc like Dick does show up in other characters comics, he helps out in the birds of prey, most of the fab 5 have mentioned that he stops by whenever they’re lucky enough to have a solo run -DC GIVE DONNA TROY A SOLO RUN- he helps a lot of the younger teams, he works with the league.

Now GOD FORBID BRUCE CALL HIS SON WHEN HES MENTAL BREAKDOWNING.

Bc yeah he does haunt the Batman narrative. If I had a nickel for every time I turned the page on a Batman solo comic to suddenly get 2 pages of “dick Grayson, my ward the first Robin. My greatest achievement” spat at me I would have enough nickels to buy the comic bookstore

Or in a Robin comic “dick Grayson, the first Robin, he was the blueprint” like if yall wanna act like this pick up the phone and call the man.

Like despite what I and the fandom will tell you. There has never been a time where Dick and the bats weren’t on speaking terms (Jason excluded for reasons of murder and general bitterness) but even when Dick and Bruce hated being near each other -post Jason death- they could still work together.

They just decide to go “ah yes nightwing he’s great and he could probably help wish he was here anyway I’m not gonna call him”

People will bring up Red Robin but him and Tim were solid for like 99% of that so be so fr

Anyway all I’m saying is that Batman and his Russian nesting doll collection of ever shrinking robins need therapy and maybe medication but it’s okay I love them anyway

How does DC keep fumbling Jason’s character. Like they have a brilliant character just think about it. Bruce takes in Jason to help steer him on the right path. To help him channel his anger into doing good. He passes on his morals and his values. His core value being as we all know, his no killing rule. Jason’s life is tragically cut short, then he’s revived and becomes the very thing Bruce fights against. Jason is such a beautiful character but DC just ignores his potential. If you want to dig even deeper you can think about how awful crime alley is in Gotham and how a lot of kids there end up criminals or dead and despite Bruce’s best efforts, Jason ended up being both.

I love the HC where all the brothers are like "yeah, Dick is an idiot lol" but the moment someone says something bad about him, they jump to defend him with their lives... Even from himself, lol

Jason: Dick? Ah, yeah, he's stupid.

X: Ha! Yes, I bet he can't even add 2 + 2.

Jason: WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU? That guy was a mathlete, he won every damn contest he entered. Gotham Academy has a whole hall just for his trophies in different disciplines, both mental and physical skill. You wish you could be like that.

Tim: Sometimes I wish Nightwing would stop trusting people so much.

X hero: He's very naive, isn't he?

Tim: What??? No! The guy is a master manipulator, he knows every move you're going to make and he's three miles ahead of you. Whatever you do, he will know and be able to react accordingly in a second. He has more contingency plans than Batman! He is far from being naive!

Damian: You are too soft with them.

Dick: I am, aren't I? I guess I'm not at my best anymore.

Damian: Don't you dare say that again. You're one of the best fighters I know and you're the only person in the world I know who can do the stunts you do. You are literally the epitome of human fitness. Shut up. Don't look down on my Batman.

Duke just punched two people who were talking bad about Richie after he gave an interview on TV <3
