*Takes you by the shoulders* I ADORE character profiles and character trivia and likes and dislikes sections. I love knowing this ruthless, heartless, cruel man of a character has a childish dislike for mandarin oranges. I believe in the inherent beauty of making all characters, no matter the background or moral stance, being made fundamentally human by assigning them insignificant culinary preferences. I stand by the supremacy of humanizing villains by giving them relatable tastes and trivial interests and ordinary hobbies. I treasure the hidden reminders that everyone is inherently human even when everything else we know about a character might suggest the contrary.

This was a lot funnier originally but I like messing with this loser. Imagine having emotionally AND physically unavailable parents
Imagine Dazai forgot what Oda looked like.
Like, after so long without seeing him, he can no longer remember the face of his best friend.
Imagine how devastated he’d be.
He would try so so hard to remember, maybe try to draw it, anything to know what his dead friend looks like.
But he just… can’t.
He knows what color Oda’s hair was, he knows what color his skin, eyes, etc were. He knows what his facial features look like on their own.
But together? He has no idea. He can no longer recall the softness of Oda’s expression when he’d see the kids, he’d no longer remember how Oda looked with a little scruff on his chin, none of it.
I think it’d kill him inside.
Sorry for dying and going off the face of the earth for a few weeks. Anywho look at this sign I made for my locker :)

Yo Serirei sketch from school.
The saddest thing about most characters in bsd is their mentality.
Akutagawa for example, Akutagawa is an incredibly tragic character, numerous amounts of traumatic events have happened to him, but still those aren’t the saddest things about him.
Akutagawa isn’t a sad character because he was abused or that he has a lung disease, it’s because of his views. Akutagawa finds no meaning in life, he’s only still alive because he was given a goal and he needs to achieve it. He likely wouldn’t be alive if Dazai didn’t come along.
Almost every character in bsd is suicidal in some way, Chuuya and Kunikida will sacrifice themselves for others sometimes without thinking of a different solution, Akutagawa and Poe don’t see meaning in life unless there’s something for them to look for, Atsushi doesn’t bother in thinking of a different solution and acts on impulsive thinking. Dazai is simply the only one who makes attempts on their life.
All of these stem from world views, Chuuya believes he has to save others as it is what he was made for, Kunikida thinks that others should live more than he should, Akutagawa views life as nothing but hell and finds it pointless to suffer unless he gays to obtain something, Poe believes he doesn’t have a right to live unless he’s the best at what he does, and Atsushi thinks of himself as worthless and doesn’t believe he deserves to live.
These all weren’t because of events that happened to the characters but simply because of how they think.
I need a mob psycho 100 live action remake but it’s written like a Disney channel movie
hey buddy what the fuck is this
Oh um that’s just my friend. She’s just been chilling there for a year. She’s fine just a little crucified is all.
They're like??? Surprisingly nice to each other????
I’ve been reading a lot of BSD fanfiction these past couple weeks and I need to get something off my chest. I see it a lot…in just about every fanfic I read, and it’s starting to wear me down. I have yet to read a fanfic that correctly identifies Chuuya’s hat. So here is the PSA:
Fedora’s are notable for the indentation on their crown, as shown in this image, with said indentation circled in red for educational purposes.
This indentation is not just notable on a fedora, it is a DEFINING characteristic. So when we look at a picture of Chuuya from BSD and see that the top of his hat is not indented, if anything, it is slightly convex (protruding up), we can say with certainty, that this is NOT a fedora:
If we look at the picture of IRL Chuuya Nakahara, from which BSD Chuuya’s hat is inspired, grainy as it is, we can also see here that the crown of the hat is similarly convex (hence, why illustrated Chuuya’s hat is designed that way). Once again, NOT a fedora.
So…what kind of hat does Chuuya wear you may wonder, dear fanfic writers that consistently miss-ID this iconic head wear, and other people reading this rant post?
It is called a pork pie.
Yes, you read that right, at this point in time, there are literally tens of thousands of BSD fanfics in existence that have missed the opportunity to have Dazai tease Chuuya for wearing a pork pie on his head. This particular hat is also iconic to this character shown below, which the interwebs tells me is named Walter White, because I am one of the 0.01% of the world that has not watched Breaking Bad.
Note the convex shape of the crown (fun fact: this is referred to as telescoping), as opposed to the fedora’s characteristic concave indentation shown in the first image.
Why is this important? Well..it can be argued that it’s not. But if you are trying to be a good writer then good writer’s do their research in an effort to put forth the most realistic and accurate story. And if you are trying to characterize Chuuya in your fanfic as a hat aficionado, but he can’t tell the difference between a fedora and a pork pie…for readers that can…let’s just say, it’s irritating.
In conclusion, if you love Chuuya, please, please, please stop calling his hat a fedora. It is NOT A FEDORA. It is a pork pie.
Read more about the pork pie on the Wikipedia article here **Note that Chuuya’s pork pie is styled in the 1930s-1940s iteration of the hat**: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pork_pie_hat
Thank you for reading. This has been a completely unnecessary and unasked for BSD PSA about Chuuya’s Hat. Happy fanfic writing/reading!
