Before you read any further make sure you watch all episodes of Final Space since I will be talking about the whole first season.
I was watching the documentary that was released today where Olan goes into the theme of loneliness in the show and I started to realize how all of the characters are brought together by loneliness.
Gary is obvious. His father died when he was young and he was basically exiled in space for five years with a bunch of robots. He has a desperation to get out of that state by befriending anyone he comes across no matter their past. In the end, however, he is essentially back to where he started since the majority of his friends are either dead or MIA and his only comfort before death is talking with his AI friend HUE, someone he didn’t consider company when a prisoner.
Quinn is lonely in that she, at the time, was the only one in the Infinity Guard to defy The Lord Commander. She was betrayed by the very organization she based her whole life around and has a hard time trusting anyone else in the event she might be hurt again.
Avocato is lonely because he feels that no one would ever empathize with him. He’s hesitant about being close to anyone because he knows once people know about his history and how he was The Lord Commander’s second in command, they would never give him the time of day so he shuts down any friendly gestures at first. Avocato even anticipates his son will never forgive him for the things he’s done. He’s lonely in that he anticipates everyone will hate him.
Little Cato is another obvious one. Hell, he even says it in episode 7. He’s lonely because he never really had a family. Even when Avocato was alive, he was mostly separated from him and it is implied that Avocato was cold outwardly towards him when working for The Lord Commander. He had one moment of feeling whole again with his father and then it was suddenly ripped from his arms when Avocato sacrificed himself. His guilt for his father’s death makes him feel even more alone and would surely eat him if it weren’t for Gary.
Mooncake is lonely because as Nightfall and Lord Commander put it, “everywhere he goes, death follows.” No matter who he befriends with, it will always end in tragedy. In the end when everyone is dead due to people trying to protect him or when he himself uses his powers, he will be back to square one and wander in the loneliness of space.
KVN is actually a pretty relatable form of loneliness in that no one believes in him. Gary constantly makes it a point that he absolutely loathes KVN to the point it physically pains him to give him a thumbs up when he does something good. HUE even acknowledges that no one has any faith in KVN when he is in the process of saving the Galaxy One from the Infinity Guard. I feel that KVN is well aware that no one really believes in him but puts on a smile (even though he doesn’t have a mouth) to hide his insecurities. All he wants is approval and friends, but due to his annoying nature, it’s hard for people to actually take him seriously.
HUE is pretty simple in that him being a stereotypical “unfeeling AI”, he feels that he is destined to be lonely and friendless. However, over time, he develops a very close bond towards Gary and is probably the closest friend Gary has since they both had to live with each other for five years. He overcomes the loneliness of his programming by discovering a bit of humanity inside of him via his care for Gary. When Gary dies he actually feels loss and thus alone inside the helmet of his deceased friend. It’s basically how Cortana felt between Halo 3 and Halo 4 after John freezes himself for 4 years in space and she has no company but the frozen body of her closest friend.
The Lord Commander even has some loneliness inside of him and I feel that this is going to play a huge part in season 2. The Lord Commander, or Jack, is lonely due to the fact that he was always in the shadow of someone else and felt unimportant. He was the co-pilot of the great John Goodspeed but history only remembers John and not Jack on that fateful flight. His rise to power is a desperation for him to be remembered, but in doing so, he is regarded as one of the vilest beings in the universe. His value for loyalty is another desperation to get out of a lonely state since he wants everyone to pay attention to him and not anyone else. His insecurities really take form in the last episode when he insists that he got his powers because he was chosen and therefore important and therefore noticed. However, Gary lays the hard truth on him and tells him that his powers were a mistake and he is still a nobody which in turn infuriates Jack. In the end, the Titans choose Earth and leave Jack to suffer alone with his illness with no one to care for him.
I’m super excited where Season 2 is going to go but I hope the theme of loneliness continues throughout the show because I think its a very multi-layered and important theme to explore in fiction. :)
this is absolutely what is happening at my sanctuary. i killed them for the quest, but then i revived them using console commands and now they're just like,,, chilling there
im trying to imagine like,,,arquen and the new recruits entering the cheydinhal sanctuary when the rest of the family ISN’T purified would be such a weird mix
like first of all hey arquen i know i KNOW lucien told u the sanctuary was purified BUT hear me out…..no
also the new recruits are always like “hello oh most revered listener thank you for honoring me” but i cant imagine the others being anything but “hey target practice i got u more apples” like ?? absolute clash bonus points if the new ones get all bothered like “u have to respect the Listener” and vicentes like “seniority points”
bro... that is messed up....
🥺🥺🥺 i live for this
A dragon is a fierce creature. Strong. Dangerous. Greedy.
And Kagami was so very greedy.
Particularly when it came to the time and attention of one Marinette Dupain-Cheng.

What I love most about Skyrim (and TES in general) is how, once the surface is at all scratched, you’re confronted with the most buckwild lore in the history of ever. Like, Skyrim’s baseline experience is: you are a person born with the soul of a dragon, which means you can absorb their souls and speak their language. Fair enough! There are two moons! And vampires! Giants herd mammoths across the plains!
But then! Dig a little deeper, and it’s all “yeah, there are two moons, but they aren’t really moons, they’re the corpse of the god who tricked all the other gods into creating the world, and mortals just interpret them as moons”, and “an entire race created technology that runs on souls, and they accidentally erased themselves from existence while trying to become gods, well at least that’s our best guess” and “some dudes replaced their hearts with plants and you can pickpocket the plant-heart right out of their chest” and “here’s a weapon that sometimes turns your enemies into pastries”.
What a game, you guys.
honestly? im anti self dx but i kinda feel like it can be good? like if u do a lot of research and just know like “hey i probably have this disorder. i should try to get a proper diagnosis so i can get treatment for it.”
but dont just like. look up some disorder and see that one of the symptoms is sadness and just go “oh :’( i have this and you have to respect that uwu” cause my man i can assure you that you are not a fucking doctor.
silvaze! love this ship! hope you like the art! <3
I read a drabble fic where in one of the chapters had Adrien being akumaized instead of Kagami in Oni-Chan (The akuma had a space theme that I personally really liked). You wanna take a crack at that prompt?
I know the thing you’re talking about I think. I can’t find it but someone else probably has a link.
So, there are very few times I like writing Akuma!Adrien, because 99% of the time I write Gabriel as having ‘Akumatizing Adrien’ as one of the lines he will not cross.
The few times I do write it, I have it be a situation where Gabriel 1.) didn’t realize it was Adrien’s emotions he was picking up on until the Butterfly took over, and 2.) is a situation where Gabriel would think this could help Adrien more than hurt him.
‘Akumatized over Lila’s bullshit’ is one of those things that works for me!
I’d go with more of an emphasis on ‘personal space’ than an outer space theme tho.
Akuma!Adrien’s main power would be, well, personal space. Creating a barrier around himself. But the barrier would have different levels depending on how much he wants to let someone in.
Lila would immediately get shoved to a ‘does 50 feet or less mean anything to you at all?’ barrier. Might get painful if she was at ‘ground zero’ so to speak, but I’ll be nice and say that instead of slamming her through a window or wall she gets politely teleported into a trashcan.
As an Akuma, Adrien would have to go out and search for Ladybug to fight her. I’ll discuss her and the barrier later, but it does mean we get to see other people.
Random strangers Adrien passes would be stuck at a 20-40 ish feet radius.
Most of the classmates are allowed to the 10 foot barrier. Characters who Adrien is close to like Nino, Alya, Chloé, and Kagami are allowed to the 5 foot barrier. And they are very worried about him. This could get counted as a ‘Lila gets called tf out’ thing, as they ask Adrien what happened and he goes off on Lila’s actions. Not just how uncomfortable she made him, but also all her lies because he’s realized she’s dangerous so fuck the ‘High Road’, Akuma!Adrien is bluntly honest.
And now we get Ladybug!
Ladybug is able to get into the 5 foot barrier, but is unable to get closer. She’s allowed so close because, duh, Adrien loves her. Which is a hell of a revelation when Akuma!Adrien is very blunt about that.
She doesn’t figure out he’s Chat Noir though. He’s aware enough to keep quiet about that. Ladybug is worried about Chat, but assumes he got caught in one of the other barriers.
After a few attempts to get Adrien to let her in further, Ladybug realizes that the problem is that as much as Adrien wants to let her in, the ‘Akuma’ sees her as a threat. If Ladybug gets in, this whole thing stops. Which annoys Hawkmoth because if Ladybug doesn’t get in, Adrien can’t retrieve her Miraculous.
After realizing this, Ladybug tries another tactic. She swings off and detransforms outside the barrier, thinking maybe ‘Marinette’ can convince him more than Ladybug.
Marinette easily makes it past the first barriers, to where the rest of the class is at the 10 foot barrier. She isn’t that surprised, as all of the classmates are there already.
What does surprise her is that there’s no resistance letting her into the 5 foot barrier, with Alya, Nino, Chloé and Kagami. That gets a few reactions from everyone.
Marinette goes to lean aganst the last barrier, to beg Adrien to let her in. Only there isn’t another barrier. Not for her. Because while Adrien hasn’t admitted it yet, he loves her just as much as Ladybug. But the ‘Akuma’ doesn’t see Mari as a threat.
After cautiously making her way too him, and shoving down any ‘ohmygoditsadrien’ nervousness because she’s in Ladybug Mode™, Marinette grabs whatever the Akumatized Item is and smashes it.
That has Adrien turning back to normal and while he’s confused af he’s not upset enough to be Akumatized again. Mari makes up a ‘uh… I should go get Ladybug!’ excuse and bolts off to transform and purify the Butterfly.
Meanwhile, everyone else fills Adrien in on what he did as an Akuma. Alya especially asks questions about Lila, and Adrien does admit to all the bullshit that was going on with her.
Alya, Nino, Chloé and Kagami then all tease/interrogate Adrien about Marinette. Alya and Nino tease, Kagami interrogates, and Chloé does both. Kagami realizes she’s obviously lost to Marinette if Adrien let her in. Chloé’s just like ‘I know I’m kinda trying to be nicer but really?? Her??? You absolute dork!!’.
Adrien’s just confused. Luckily Alya was recording so she can show him how Mari was the only one allowed to touch him. Adrien’s confused until they mention that even Ladybug was stopped by a barrier.
Adrien has a small crisis before realizing ‘holy shit I might be in love with her’.
yeah guys stop bullying poor joffers he's still badass ok???
Where did the whole sock drawer thing come from? Cuz,, legit Jauffre locked the amulet in a secret room accessible only by a false cabinet in his (the Blades grandmaster’s) own office. It’s obviously not perfect, but it’s not like he just hung it up on the coatrack by the priory door
Don’t get me wrong, I like dunking on grandpa jeffrey as much as the next person, but we can at least give him a bit of credit imo
a lot of people want adrien to be more distant to gabriel or whatever with these headcanons, for some adrien angst. i would much rather gabriel try to fix the relationship. while he is neglectful, he can repair it. he loves adrien, and adrien loves gabriel. gabriel can become a better father and person. it doesn't change what he did, but adrien deserves a caring father, and i hope the show will progress their relationship, like they did in gorizilla or something like that.
he lives quietly as a monk at weynon priory, near the city of chorrol
