#bye tumblr 2022 it’s been fun
If any of you is being harassed for shipping Karamel, please, PLEASE, don’t pay attention to what the haters say, don’t let them affect you in any way, and don’t ever, EVER, let them convince you that you’re a bad person, because YOU’RE NOT.
Shipping Karamel doesn’t mean you’re racist. Many Karamel shippers are POC, including myself, and ship interracial ships in other fandoms.
Shipping Karamel doesn’t mean you’re homophobic. There’re tons of Karamel shippers who are part of the LGBT+ community. Also, there’re tons of Karamel shippers who also ship S@nv3rs. And many of them ship Sup3rc0rp too!!!
Shipping Karamel doesn’t mean you’re an abuse apologist. Karamel has never been abusive or toxic. Many Karamel shippers are abuse survivors themselves. Also, I’ve seem a good amount of abuse survivors who don’t ship Karamel but don’t think the ship is toxic or abusive either, and they actually feel offended when they see those words being thrown around so carelessly. (And if there’re people out there who genuinely feel triggered by a TV character that was canonically written to eventually become a superhero and to provide some comic relief, then they should seek help ASAP.)
Liking Mon-El doesn’t mean you support slavery. He literally said there were a lot of things on Daxam he didn’t agree with when they were specifically talking about slavery. And when he decided to go back to Daxam with his parents to protect Kara, he tried to convince them to rebuild the planet with new rules, make it a better place, with equality and justice for everyone, which meant ending slavery, among other things. And this got him immediately imprisoned by his own mother, which means that, back on Daxam, he also had next-to-zero power to do anything about it.
DON’T EVER FEEL BAD FOR LIKING MON-EL. Liking his character only means we’re able to understand that he was raised by abusive parents within a toxic culture, but he has never been a truly bad person. Yes, he was spoiled and useless, but he was never evil. He showed hesitation several times when escaping Daxam (which he did basically because his guard kept urging him to), he was startled with all the death around him and he freaked out when his guard killed the Kryptonian emissary right in front of him.
The whole point of his storyline is to show a hero’s journey as Mon-El found himself being inspired by Kara’s morals and actions, and the fact that we’re able to appreciate his development as intended by the writers and we’re able to root for him and look forward to what will come next doesn’t mean we’re a bad person. It only means that there are different points of view out there, which the haters fail to understand.
As others have already pointed out, the haters truly seem to believe they’re “fighting for justice”, but they’re the ones being toxic and abusive. No one fights for justice being a bully. They’re so self-absorbed that they don’t even entertain the idea that their point of view might not be the only valid one. They think their opinion is the right one and anyone who thinks differently is wrong and deserves being harassed. I hope someday they realize how damaging this way of thinking is – for others and for themselves.
There are very sensitive people out there who are only trying to enjoy their favorite shows and their favorite ships, and then they come to Tumblr just to relax, to escape a little bit from their own reality or from their own battles – which none of us know anything about, btw – only to end up being harassed by people who think they can tell someone’s personality and morals based on a ship, which is shallow and unfairly judgmental.
Anyway, if you are being harassed by this kind of person, just ignore them, delete their hate messages, hit the block button, keep spreading love for your ship and be happy. We’ve got your back. ❤
And to the haters that eventually see this post (because you love our tag so much)…
