being behind in life with respect to your friends means that when you do accomplish anything it just feels like you're catching up to them rather than being on your own separate path. got your driving license yeah well everyone else got theirs last summer. your first flight on your own across the country, all your hostelite friends have been doing it for the last two years now. first trip with friends, maybe for you but they've been on many since starting uni. got into a certain field of study? your friend has already completed three internships.
