despite of everything i love madoc. i know he was awful and backstabbed jude after he helped build herself up, but he just loves her so much it hurts me. that scene where he is like "i am your father" and jude replies "you're my father's murderer" and the man just murmurs that "he could be both"..... HURTS??????? He always claimed her as HIS 😭 AND after reading the stolen heir it breaks me a little more.

Madoc always loved Jude the most. He was so proud of her, even if he wanted what she had. Perhaps he was FIRST person to ever see her true potential, and i just know that even when they were enemies, he was proud. (Dont touch me i love their father x daughter tragical story)

Do you think this is what sets him and Luke apart? Would Luke not done what he did if he too had a mom who could have been there for him? I'm absolutely LIVING for the increase in luke and percy parallels, but something that's been rattling around my brain since I last listened to the lightning thief musical is that without luke, percy WOULD become him. I think that it's seeing the example of the cruelty and betrayal in luke that prevented percy from following the same path. he's horrified at how luke betrayed his friends, but luke believes he's doing it for the good of the demigods, just as percy would believe he's doing it for the good of his friends. percy is regularly disloyal to the gods by being loyal to his friends. he is saved from luke's fate simply because he came second and watched it unfold before him. I'm so sorry luke but you really are doomed by the narrative. you were always going to turn against the gods, even it it wasn't you. it had to happen.

one thing abt thalia and percy's dynamic that is often overlooked is that percy was punished for the same things thalia was rewarded for. there's a prophecy abt one of the big three kids? percy is treated like a liar and thief and ppl refuse to talk to him. thalia? everyone respects her (including gods!) and assumes she'll do a great job saving the world. thalia is accepted immediately at camp and threatens the place percy spent two years proving he deserves. percy wants to go on a quest to save his friend? he's an attention seeker and glory stealer. thalia? well, she's the obvious choice. thalia comes up w a plan to win capture the flag that's basically "leave everything to me" and percy comes up with a plan that's basically "if you see a good opportunity, go for it," but percy is viewed as the control freak.

what i'm saying is percy had every reason to resent thalia and he didn't. he chose not to. and thalia had every reason to look down on percy and didn't.

even when they were fighting, i never saw it as a power struggle. they were being pit against each other, and instead of doing what everyone expected them to (kronos was fully expecting thalia to kill percy), they chose to love and respect each other. because they're not their parents. they're just two kids who started cracking under the pressure but refused to break.
