What exactly is Albert's plan ? Why is there a picture of him and Monsieur M together ? Why does Albert seem to dislike M in it ? How are TWDAK and VTSOM lores linked ? What is the deep, thematic significance behind Albert's views on Vincent ? What exactly are the dream eaters ? Buckle up, this will be a multi - part analysis and we'll have to go in a sequence of steps.
Ok, recap of the basics first. Albert's dream therapy ability is basically some neuroscience - based technology that allows him to hijack people's brains for a while - that is how he is able to communicate with total strangers and influence his office environment, affect a monstrous appearance, give jumpscares and control his victims' fates in their dreams. It explains the bizarre, nightmarish feel of TWDAK.
Then what do the dream eaters do ? How are they made ? Let's go step - by - step into my explanation :
Albert very deliberately administers nightmares to his dream therapy candidates to select an 'army' for his grand plan to revive G2 district. Those who succumb to fear in the nightmare and blindly obey all his instructions perfectly as self - preservation essentially give up control of their fate. They let him decide their fate in their dream.
Now, dreams reflect a person's personality too - they are our memories and neural connections rehashed and mix - and - matched. Albert taps into a person's psychological wiring and instincts through the therapy.
Which means that the 'patients' who obey him out of pure fear are likely to be paranoid and passive when faced with unfamiliar dangers. Therefore, he can easily manipulate and control them using their fear. This could explain the dream eaters' lifeless, gloomy appearance and perpetual silence - it's like they're frozen in a constant state of fear. It's why they're perfect soldiers for his army- they won't rebel, and they are willing to 'eat' victims and follow orders to save their own selves.
You can't control a nightmare. Like any dream, it is formed by your random memories and instincts, random brain connections firing and combining. It's a situation where you're helpless to your psyche, to your subconscious. In Albert's therapy, it's a situation where you're helpless to HIM. How you react depends on your long - honed psyche, who you are deep down.
Think about your nightmares. To give my own example, I've had nightmares about being eaten alive by cannibals, being bombed, being unloved and alone, serial killers, my family and myself becoming evil and harming one another, etc. In some I remember fighting back. In others I was powerless and gave up.
Those like Taylor, who fight back despite being stuck in a horrifying situation they can't understand, show that they have a strong, hopeful outlook somewhere. They use logic as best as they can to do whatever they can. That's why they'll contribute to a G2 that has many pioneering, exceptional citizens.
Why do the dream eaters 'eat' victims ? Why are they 'hungry' ? Why do they need to 'eat' at all ? What happens to a victim who gets 'eaten' ? This is very meta - I think, since in the game everyone you get eaten Taylor urges you to try again and the game loops back, those who get 'eaten' get stuck in the nightmare. They're stuck until they either obey and become Albert's army members, or rebel and get spared. The purpose of dream eaters is to ensure the candidate can't escape till they prove their worth either way. That is Albert's plan for G2 - use the dream eaters to test people's worth, make them either useful to him as testers for other candidates, or leave the 'exceptional' ones be to hopefully improve G2.
What else do the dream eaters do besides acting as a test for candidates' worth ? Is it possible that Albert can do some Inception - style shit, influencing powerful people's decisions by implanting ideas into their psyche ? Is that how he plans to change G2 ?
Remember VTSOM ? Monsieur M's plan is to replace the 'inferior' human species with the much faster, smarter, stronger, modifiable cyborgs. That's his idea of improving life forms and the world. Whereas Albert's idea of improving G2 district is NOT by rejecting humanity but by finding and embracing its exceptional side. He taps into people's subconscious to find the brave, the fearless, those who can retain sense and logic under extreme stress. And that's why Albert dislikes M. M rejects humans totally, deriding them at many points in VTSOM. But Albert sees that humans can be pretty awesome, or atleast useful.
Now, the link between Albert and Vincent. Albert says that Vincent had great potential, but he saw him let it go to waste. Keep in mind the points above, and now remember - Vincent used to be someone who would rebel against society, accept loneliness because he wouldn't compromise on his principles and beliefs. He used to be brave. But then, he grew tired of loneliness. Which is all well and understandable to Albert, except that then Vincent, in his desire to belong and to be accepted at Myers, became a total slave to them. He committed atrocities he didn't want to commit, abandoned his principles and vision for change, because he was deathly scared of ending up alone and unsupported. He could've changed things, he had the aptitude and the attitude, but then he became just another brick in the wall of corporate selfishness. Another pawn for everything wrong with society. That's what Albert means when he says that Vincent wasted his potential. He gave into fear and lost himself. He had not a flight, not a fight, but a 'freeze' reaction to the threat of ostracision - blindly obey the very shady Monsieur M, hoping M would spare him because he licked his boots.

Two weeks since this queen was released on shopdisney.com. Thank you to everyone who was open to this new version of Snow White and the inspiration behind the design. Thank you to everyone that has added this doll to their collection. It truly means the world to me to see her finding a home out there in the world. #disneydesignercollection #snowwhite #thankyou đđđ This was the first collection ever that used designers from all over the globe. Each adding their unique version of what they thought the character that inspired them might wear to a modern fashion gala. Working from home gave each designer an opportunity to design a truly unique look and feel as we had no idea what the other designers were working on. The result is a one of a kind, eclectic mix of style and inspiration I feel honored to have been a part of. â¤ď¸
Do you think Mabel gets too much hate? I noticed when a female character acts selfish she gets hated on but when a male character does the same itâs praised
Weâre free to love or hate any character with or without reason. That said, I feel sad seeing Mabel hate and agree Mabel receives too much hate. I feel like the rhetoric claiming sheâs unforgivably selfish is skewed. I think people have decent criticisms regarding Mabelâs character and how sheâs presented. However, I donât think they sufficiently describe the full picture.
Anecdotally, I donât think this is a case of sweeping sexism because Ford also receives more criticism than I think warranted. My perspective on how much hate each character proportionately receives could be incomplete, though.
But anyway. Letâs talk Mabel.
First though: please donât try to debate this with me. If you donât like my opinion, no worries. Thatâs chill. Iâm just not interested in using my recreation time debating this. Thanks! :) However, if you want further clarifications, analyses, case studies, etc. Iâm happy to talk more, because this is NOWHERE close to exhausting my thoughts on this topic.
I think everyday anti-Mabel criticism tends to use points like:
When other characters act selfishly, theyâre called out and the narrative punishes them. But when Mabel wants something, she gets it, and itâs a reward (The Deep End, The Time Travelerâs Pig, Escape from Reality).
Mabel never learns how to give up something important and deal with that loss. Even when she lets something go, itâs not something that would have been good in her life. For instance, her failed puppet performance is âdodging a bulletâ rather than losing something meaningful, since Gabeâs just a puppet kisser. In the end, she doesnât have to live with sacrifice (Boyz Crazy, Sock Opera).
Mabel even selfishly causes the apocalypse by giving Bill the rift. Sheâs never held responsible for that (Dipper and Mabel vs the Future).
The narrative reinforces that Mabel is a good person even when sheâs not (The Last Mabelcorn).
People particularly look at Mabel in S2 over S1; many claim thatâs when her character began to feel selfish and insufferable.Â
This isnât everything, but I have tried to characterize the rhetoric fairly based upon what Iâve seen.
I find these discussion points understandable. Mabel can be self-focused and sometimes ignores othersâ feelings. Alex Hirsch admitted in DVD commentaries that he focused on Dipper learning lessons because he put himself in Dipperâs shoes. And some of Alexâs writing intentions couldâve been clearer, like instances where the twins resolve conflicting desires. We could talk about how the show could be improved or the character is legitimately not-selfless.
At the same time, I think how fandom uses these talking points isnât 100% fair to Mabelâs character or the showâs full narrative.Â
I want to point out that Mabel hate for her selfishness covers two fronts: one claim that Mabel is selfish, and another claim that the surrounding plot doesnât handle her selfishness satisfactorily. I think thereâs fair constructive criticism when it comes to narrative framing (even if I disagree), but I donât think the same dialogue is good rationale against Mabelâs personality. At times I see the two concepts conflated. The narrative may annoy you if you think selfishness isnât addressed in plot, and contribute to you disliking the character, but claiming âMabel is selfishâ because of that is flawed logic.Â
In this analysis, Iâll cover both fronts. Iâll tackle the four points I mentioned above and explain why I find them too harsh. Iâm not going to cover all my thoughts (yes, my original draft was longer!!), but I will argue:
Mabel reverses her selfishness - and thatâs the big choice sealing the climax of multiple episodes. She doesnât get off âconsequence freeâ either (Boyz Crazy, Sock Opera)
Mabel sacrifices for others. The narrative does show that Dipper and Mabel meet in the middle, not that Dipper feels guilty enough to ameliorate his sisterâs wishes (Sock Opera, Escape from Reality)
Mabel giving the rift to âBlendinâ mirrors Dipper offering a puppet to Bill. Both twins are emotionally compromised and believe theyâre making a harmless deal with an inconsequential item. Neither wouldâve made these choices in calmer circumstances. Sock Opera doesnât have Dipper deal with his culpability; relax up on Mabel (Sock Opera, Dipper and Mabel vs the Future)
Mabelâs selfishness is addressed, handled, and resolved. The moral of The Last Mabelcorn isnât defending Mabelâs goodness; itâs Mabel embracing imperfection. Mabel learns sheâs a bad person and changes her perspective of herself multiple times in canon (The Last Mabelcorn, Lost Legends)
I could also have talked about how selfishness isnât required to be resolved in her character arc, all the times Mabel does nice things for others, how she doesnât always obnoxiously hog the spotlight, and other things, but I want to cap the length of this essay.
So letâs begin.
Anti-Mabel Argument: Circumstances donât adversely affect Mabel. This means she never has to sacrifice for her brother like Dipper does for her. For instance, in Sock Opera, Mabel sees that Gabe is a weirdo over-obsessed with puppets. Her failed puppet performance was âdodging a bulletâ rather than losing something meaningful, so she doesnât learn true self-sacrificial love. Mabel never learns how to give something important up and deal without it. So, she never changes.

this scene had no business being this unnerving what the actual fUCK
So I was rewatching Steven universe and I really liked to Concept of losing color to turning monochromatic, so- what if the clown!child!reader got told (by most likely Pomni since she probably doesn't know that the reader is an actual child and probably told em in the worst way possible đĽ˛) that Kaufmo abstracted and the little fella just starts going colorless day by day, not honking anymore because they're grieving in their own way, perhaps the reader starts getting meaner, pulling pranks that are kind of akin to Jax's but they're doing em in a way so others understand the reader's feelings. That they know what happened now, that they feel like Pomni was just Caine's way of replacing Kaufmo since he abstracted.
And now it's not just losing color, they stop attending meals as often, they start changing and for the worst. As time passes the pain starts to dull away, but it's always there. The reader regains some color, but somehow now they look,, older? More tired? It's hard to tell, they start socializing again, but it's not the same, it will never be the same again.
Sorry I got too silly with this one ISPHWIOS đ
YES YES HES ANGST CONTINUATION RAHH
(Donât mind the gif it thought it was funny đ)
No one ever told you.
They never told you where Kaufmo went,
Where the one you loved like a brother had went.
You spent most of your days in your room, you werenât allowed in Kaufmoâs room at all.
They even crossed out his face on the door.
Nobody has seen you in quite some time⌠but the time you did come form your room, they all noticed how discolored your once bright colors were.
âHey, [Y/N]? Are you okay?â Jax wearily asked, Behr out of character for him; but he could notice the heavy bags under your eyes.
You could only give a slight nod in response.
Ragatha stepped in, trying to cheer you up, âweâre playing your favorite today, capture the Gloinks!â Only to be met without a reaction from you.
âCould we at least get a little honk..?â She asked; but when you squeezed your nose a pathetic, deflated squeak only left it.
âYou never told me where Kaufmo went, is he okay?â
You were met with silence.
It was always silence.
You were fed up with it.
Trudging away from the group with your arms tucked to you, Caine explained what felt like the thousandth time of how to play capture the Gloinks.
Thatâs when Pomni came up to you, tapping you wearily. âHey.. I heard you wanted to know what happened to Kaufmo..?â She was whispering, not that sheâd need to. You were decently far away from the rest of the group.
âWell.. when I got here he⌠Ragatha said something happened to him called abstraction.â
A wave of horror washed over you.
You had to excuse yourself from everyone, scrambling to your room.
This couldnât be real, he couldnât be gone, really.
It had to just be some prank they were pulling on you for all the ones youâve done on them.
You could feel a buzzing sensation under your skin, it felt like it was trying to eat away at your inner layers.
It wanted to get out. It had to get out.
The feeling would crawl all the way up to your chin, making you feel ill. It was only when you looked down at your hands when you saw the eyes staring back at you while eating away at your skin. It just kept eating. Even when your tried to tear it from yourself it only made it worse. This was your fate.
Destined to the same as Kaufmo. Once to be with him again. Would he recognize you?
Would you recognize him?
The thoughts iver flowed in your mind as the buzzing feeling finally consumed you, leaving no trace of the person you once were.
The once fun, loving prankster of all of them.
Reduced to nothing but a carving agony that would tear you apart gradually.
It was your time.
Goodnight, sweet [Y/N].
hey did you guys know its the pines twinsâ 23rd birthday today? I had no idea.
anyway, hereâs a thing Iâve been working on for a while. This was originally supposed to be for the showâs 10th anniversary back in June, but I definitely didnât anticipate how long itâd take and had to push it back to the end of August. It feels like an appropriate way to send off the summer :]
ps: as per gf tradition, thereâs a hidden message along the first 10 pages

Page 5
Panel 1, Narinder looks down and says "I know now you only gave it to me out of pity for my youth and to motivate me." Kallamar, a hand still on Shamura's arm, looks to the side and mumbles "that and you got yourself cleaved in two at the shoulder." Shamura is bend over with their face shadowed.

Shamura says "We only defeated Aetherile because Narinder made them angry--too angry to think clearly."
In a soft edge speech bubble Narinder says "A god of beauty? Ha! I guess you'll make a pretty enough corpse--for a hag anyway!" the text is faded and has an offset copy over it.
Shamura continues "Is what he said. They were so upset that they only attacked him, leaving an opening for Kallamar to deal the fatal attack"

What if Luz end up not in boiling islands but in lands of old faith. She end up in the middle fight between Lambert and cultist.
âOh my god, this place is so cool!â
âIâm glad you like it.â The Lamb chuckled. The Red Crown pulsed on their head, but they ignored it. The creature following behind them was strange, something unseen in this world, but young. She had introduced herself as Luz Noceda and looked around with clear wonder.
The Lamb hadnât expected her.
In the middle of a battle, no less.Â
But the girl had been a good distraction. While the heretics had been distracted, the Lamb had slaughtered them. Much like others who they had found, the girl had been frightened. Wary. But as they escorted her back to the compound, she had unfurled on her own.
She came from a world without the Old Faith. A world without magic, yes, but still. Interesting.
The Red Crown hummed in agreement.
âHere,â They stopped in front of a small tent, near their own. The Lamb had set it up for Ratau when the old rat came to visit, but it also provided shelter for traders who were interested. âIâll see if I can get someone to get you food and new clothes.â The poor girlâs clothing was torn and ragged from her fall through worlds.
âThanks, Lamb!â Luz said, her voice bright. It reminded them of a voice from the past, promising joy and laughter. âIâm not sure how I can thank you.â
The Lamb chuckled. âHelping out here and there will be enough,â they said. âWe all must support each other out here. The world is dangerous, and you cannot stand alone.â
Luz nodded, her eyes gleaming. Good. So she could learn.
The Red Crown thrummed in delight.
