About Eve:

Eve is one of my oldest ocs in the Hazbin fandom and the one that has gone through more changes than any of my other ocs. I developed her along side @classofthetoptrash ‘s Samael and their relationship in the course of around one or two years, I can’t remember clearly.

Yes, Eve is that Eve. The second wife of Adam, the mother of human kind and the one who took the bite of the apple.

After Lilith was kicked out of Eden, Eve was created out of Adam’s rib and given the role to be his wife. While in Eden, she was blessed with a very outgoing, friendly, kind, naive and charismatic personality, she was quick to befriend those angels who would look after both her and Adam and she learned their secrets that taught her how to plant and cultivate plants faster than naturally possible.

While she was there, she met an angel by the name of Samael. At first the angel was shy around her but they both slowly grew to be very close, perhaps too close. Eve would escape to go meet Samael away from Adam and any other angel around all the time in Eden. Eventually, one thing lead to another, Samael along with other angels were casted out of Heaven, Samael now a fallen Angel was manipulated by Lucifer to go tempt Eve to eat the forbidden fruit, Samael snuck into the garden tempting Eve and Eve trusting him she ate the fruit. She later convinced Adam to do the same, God found out and they were kicked out of Eden and left to fend for themselves.

God forgave and gave them anothe chance so Adam and Eve did what they could to survive; while Adam focused on hunting, cattle and building homes, Eve focused on her family, agriculture and keeping the home stable. Adam and Eve had Able and Cain, those two later died (Cain killed Able, Cain became the first human to sing and to go to Hell and Able the first human to go to Heaven) but in total, they had 28 kids.

Eve kept up with being a good mother and wife, was she happy? Not really, she loved her kids and Adam eventually got other wives God gave him but she slowly realized she never truly loved Adam but she continued on to live for her family up until she died.

Eve naturally found herself in Heaven, she is considered a Saint and was treated as such. It wasn’t until every child Eve had was in Heaven that God made an announcement: Eve would be given away to Satan.

This obviously wrecked havoc between Adam and Eve’s family, she didn’t do anything wrong so why was she being given away to a monster? God explained all of this had been already planned centuries ago and Eve’s role in this was important. Eve eventually agreed, God took her to the 9th Circle aka the Circle of Wrath, also known as the last and coldest of all the other circles.

At first she was terrified, going to a world of creatures she didn’t know anything about to marry a creature that had been described as a beast of pure evil her entire life and now she was going to be forced to marry him. Her stay was pleasant, the servants around the massive castle at least were nice to her but as her future husband to be...? Well... he wasn’t necessarily nice? Satan was temperamental, bossy, destructive and loud, it made poor Eve felt distraught at first but she quickly started standing up for herself and to talk back to him. Satan was stubborn, those two would always bicker at each other Satan for how he was and Eve scolding him for his behavior.

Eventually, overwhelmed by everything happening, Eve decided to leave the castle to possibly find another place she could be, anywhere else except thet castle. While she traveled the frozen desert that’s the 9th circle, while she was being attacked by the creatures that resided that area, Satan saved her from being eaten alive and brought her back to the castle. While angrily attending Satan’s wounds and scolding him for being so stupid for going after her and him expressing how stupid she was for leaving in the first place, they both came to an agreement that maybe they didn’t start off in good terms, neither side was even trying to at least know the other and they should try to start from the beginning, perhaps give it a try.

With time, Satan and Eve became friends, they became close and made an effort to get to know each other. Eve reunited with Lilith who she considers a sister and with her son Cain. Overtime, Satan and Eve fell in love and they married.

Haha, well, I wish it ended there.

During the wedding, perhaps when Eve was in the aisle or in front of Satan, she noticed something familiar about him.... Samael.

All this time, Satan turned out to be actually Samael, her best friend in Eden, her first friend, her lover. She was beyond happy to be marrying him, the man she always loved ever since she was in that garden and indeed, God apparently did had a plan for everyone. Even for such a peculiar pair as Satan and Eve.

Anyway, so what happened after that? Well, Samael and Eve are now married. Well, Eve has a tavern, her kingdom is a frozen desert so why not create a type of oasis? Her tavern appears randomly around the 9th circle and sometimes around Hell where, if you enter, not only is it a moment of peace from the chaos and a neutrak zone, but you get to eat food made by Eve herself, a meal made with a mother’s love. Heart warming, isn’t it? Too and it’s super rare to find the place, you have to be very lucky to find the tavern (the only ones they can come and go as they please are other fallen angels and nobles).

Kids! Want a plot twist? Turns out Cain is Samael’s kid not Adam’s (it is possible to have twins from two different dads btw) which explains a lot considering how Cain is as a person. Samael and Eve would later 13 kids, all of them which are deities or beings in other ancient civilizations and here is the list:

Conquest/Plague - Horseman of the Apocalyse.

War- Horseman of the Apocalyse.

Famine - Horseman of the Apocalyse.

Death - Horseman of the Apocalyse.

Demeter - Ancient Greek goddess of Agricultute.

Dionysus - Ancient Greek god of fruitfulness, vegetation, wine and ecstasy.

Artemis - Ancient Greek goddesss of wild animals, the hunt, vegetation, chastity and childbirth

Idunn - Norse goddess of spring and rejuvenation.

Sif - Norse goddess of wheat, fertility and family.

Melinöe - Ancient Greek goddess of ghosts and spirits.

Makaria - Anciet Greek goddess of blessed death.

Lucious - The Antichrist.

Lucious is around the exact same age as Charlie (Hazbin Hotel). While Charlie has her Happy Hotel where she helps sinners to gain redemption, Lucious is the opposite. Lucious is convincing his uncle Lucifer to let him have some sinners for himself because, as I described it already, the 9th circle is the WORST circle in Hell: It’s frozen, there is always a snow storm, there is literally no cities nor civilizations there and if you do somehow find something roaming around that is a fallen Angel who will do ANYTHING to get and eat you alive. Lucious wants to change that, he wants to turn the 9th circle into a place where sinners get to survive and fend for themselves in a sick type of Hunger games where nobody wins. He is working alongside Charlie, he convinced her not everybody is good, not everybody is willing to change and they WILL take advantage of her kindness. So what do we do those sinners? Give them to Lucious, he’ll make those sinner’s stay in Hell already worse than it already was. It’s still a work in progress and eventually I’ll get to talk more about it in the future.

Anyway, that’s about it and as summarized as I could! Two years of development babyyyyy. Forgive me if I made any grammar mistakes, it’s almost 2am.

Do you think Mabel gets too much hate? I noticed when a female character acts selfish she gets hated on but when a male character does the same it’s praised

We’re free to love or hate any character with or without reason. That said, I feel sad seeing Mabel hate and agree Mabel receives too much hate. I feel like the rhetoric claiming she’s unforgivably selfish is skewed. I think people have decent criticisms regarding Mabel’s character and how she’s presented. However, I don’t think they sufficiently describe the full picture.

Anecdotally, I don’t think this is a case of sweeping sexism because Ford also receives more criticism than I think warranted. My perspective on how much hate each character proportionately receives could be incomplete, though.

But anyway. Let’s talk Mabel.

First though: please don’t try to debate this with me. If you don’t like my opinion, no worries. That’s chill. I’m just not interested in using my recreation time debating this. Thanks! :) However, if you want further clarifications, analyses, case studies, etc. I’m happy to talk more, because this is NOWHERE close to exhausting my thoughts on this topic.

Mabel’s Selfishness: The General Critique

I think everyday anti-Mabel criticism tends to use points like:

When other characters act selfishly, they’re called out and the narrative punishes them. But when Mabel wants something, she gets it, and it’s a reward (The Deep End, The Time Traveler’s Pig, Escape from Reality).

Mabel never learns how to give up something important and deal with that loss. Even when she lets something go, it’s not something that would have been good in her life. For instance, her failed puppet performance is “dodging a bullet” rather than losing something meaningful, since Gabe’s just a puppet kisser. In the end, she doesn’t have to live with sacrifice (Boyz Crazy, Sock Opera).

Mabel even selfishly causes the apocalypse by giving Bill the rift. She’s never held responsible for that (Dipper and Mabel vs the Future).

The narrative reinforces that Mabel is a good person even when she’s not (The Last Mabelcorn).

People particularly look at Mabel in S2 over S1; many claim that’s when her character began to feel selfish and insufferable. 

This isn’t everything, but I have tried to characterize the rhetoric fairly based upon what I’ve seen.

I find these discussion points understandable. Mabel can be self-focused and sometimes ignores others’ feelings. Alex Hirsch admitted in DVD commentaries that he focused on Dipper learning lessons because he put himself in Dipper’s shoes. And some of Alex’s writing intentions could’ve been clearer, like instances where the twins resolve conflicting desires. We could talk about how the show could be improved or the character is legitimately not-selfless.

At the same time, I think how fandom uses these talking points isn’t 100% fair to Mabel’s character or the show’s full narrative. 

I want to point out that Mabel hate for her selfishness covers two fronts: one claim that Mabel is selfish, and another claim that the surrounding plot doesn’t handle her selfishness satisfactorily. I think there’s fair constructive criticism when it comes to narrative framing (even if I disagree), but I don’t think the same dialogue is good rationale against Mabel’s personality. At times I see the two concepts conflated. The narrative may annoy you if you think selfishness isn’t addressed in plot, and contribute to you disliking the character, but claiming “Mabel is selfish” because of that is flawed logic. 

In this analysis, I’ll cover both fronts. I’ll tackle the four points I mentioned above and explain why I find them too harsh. I’m not going to cover all my thoughts (yes, my original draft was longer!!), but I will argue:

Mabel reverses her selfishness - and that’s the big choice sealing the climax of multiple episodes. She doesn’t get off “consequence free” either (Boyz Crazy, Sock Opera)

Mabel sacrifices for others. The narrative does show that Dipper and Mabel meet in the middle, not that Dipper feels guilty enough to ameliorate his sister’s wishes (Sock Opera, Escape from Reality)

Mabel giving the rift to “Blendin” mirrors Dipper offering a puppet to Bill. Both twins are emotionally compromised and believe they’re making a harmless deal with an inconsequential item. Neither would’ve made these choices in calmer circumstances. Sock Opera doesn’t have Dipper deal with his culpability; relax up on Mabel (Sock Opera, Dipper and Mabel vs the Future)

Mabel’s selfishness is addressed, handled, and resolved. The moral of The Last Mabelcorn isn’t defending Mabel’s goodness; it’s Mabel embracing imperfection. Mabel learns she’s a bad person and changes her perspective of herself multiple times in canon (The Last Mabelcorn, Lost Legends)

I could also have talked about how selfishness isn’t required to be resolved in her character arc, all the times Mabel does nice things for others, how she doesn’t always obnoxiously hog the spotlight, and other things, but I want to cap the length of this essay.

So let’s begin.

Can Mabel learn from selfishness if she’s consequence-free and never handles meaningful loss?

Anti-Mabel Argument: Circumstances don’t adversely affect Mabel. This means she never has to sacrifice for her brother like Dipper does for her. For instance, in Sock Opera, Mabel sees that Gabe is a weirdo over-obsessed with puppets. Her failed puppet performance was “dodging a bullet” rather than losing something meaningful, so she doesn’t learn true self-sacrificial love. Mabel never learns how to give something important up and deal without it. So, she never changes.

Been working on this for almost months now since chapter 6 was released and been wanting to share my ideas and new characters being introduced (still following the storyline)

This Comic is 15+ maturity cause there will be cursing and blood, If y'all don't like how it's going then you can ignore it and focus on other stuff or skip the pages. The characters are already planned and set up, meaning I will not be making request.

There’s TADC spoilers ahead so proceed with caution

I know we’re all sad about Gummigoo but honestly I feel like he kinda had to be removed because it wasn’t going to be what’s best for Pomni

This is only her second day and while her nightmare in the beginning makes it clear that kaufmo’s abstraction did a number on her mentally, it also tells us something else. That Pomni fears that she’s not going to make it and these people will not care or even remember her if she abstracts.

These people aren’t her friends. She barely knows them and she certainly isn’t trying to. The only attempts to get along with her directly are coming from Ragatha, and it’s very clear they’ve already started off with a strained relationship.

So Pomni is kinda just walked into this adventure, which she clearly isn’t interested in, and when things go haywire and she encounters someone having a similar existential crisis to the one she had only a day prior, she can relate to that. And she says it herself, she could really use a friend. She makes comparisons between Gummigoo and herself. She doesn’t have memories anymore outside of the game she’s been out in. She feels like nothing. I think she’s inadvertently telling him advice she needs to hear herself, if she wants to get through this, that this can be a home and she can be somebody real there.

But the thing here is that he’s not the same as her. He’s an NPC. An AI. A piece of the game. Pomni is missing memories. He never had any others. Pomni is trapped. He’s being offered even more of a life. Caine also let’s us know indirectly that it seems to not be good to get players and NPCs mixed up.

And once Gummigoo is gone, we move on to the final scene, Kaufmo’s funeral. Here we see that everyone aside from Jax’s absence) cared about Kaufmo. Zooble set up the service. Ragatha couldn’t keep from crying no matter how many times she’s been through this. Gangle and her drawing of the two of them. Kinger explaining how they like to do this to honor those they’ve lost. It’s made very clear that this group of people care deeply about those they’ve been forced to be stuck here with. That they’re not going to let someone who abstracts be forgotten, what Pomni feared would happen to her in her own abstraction nightmare. And while staring face to face with what could be a possible future for her, she has her own realization.

That these people she’s stuck here with are in her life now and they will care about her in some capacity. She needs a friend, and these people here are the only ones who are going to understand the unique situation she’s doing through, and as long as she lets them, they can be there for her when she starts to fall.

my most controversial gravity falls take is that it shouldve been mabel helping pacifica with the ghosts in her mansion instead of dipper. i redrew some scenes in hopes people will see the vision :)

Reunion

Poppy is finally out of her case and greeted with hug from Boogie Bot. But will the others be just as happy and enthusiastic as Boogie? Huggy kept Lelu away from Poppy’s room for a reason, a reason that his sister and friends don’t know about. What does Huggy know that the others don’t?
