So, something I just noticed since they both came up on my feed.
In both Chuuya’s reaction to Dazai getting hit by Lovecraft and Dazai's gay power of friendship/getting shot speech, they both say something similar to the other.
Even if Dazai is talking out his ass (which is a very real possibility since he knows he's not about to die), it's an interesting parallel and it makes me wonder if it was intentional on the writer's part.
"Mindset of a ruler." Proceeds to be completely whipped for Baam.
Take their relationship as platonic or romantic; he's still whipped either way.
TOWER OF GOD - Khun Aguero Agnes -
"I will not be ruled. I make my own rules. That is the mindset of a ruler."
Chuuya had one hell of a year when he was sixteen. I mean, first he lost the Flags and found out he was used as an experiment and everything else that was Stormbringer then a within a few months after that the whole Dragon's Head fiasco happened, which was probably the second time he used Corruption. The dude could not catch a break.
I feel that if Chuuya was arrested for his crimes, he'd be handed back over to the military instead of being sent to prison or executed. I imagine something like the arahabaki program would be Expensive, like billions of dollars Expensive (considering they made not one but two specialized labs for it), so they'd want something to show for it. And since it was technically a success, they'd probably want to keep Chuuya alive and attempt to salvage what they could from the program, despite the head researcher being dead or whether Chuuya was cooperative or not.
I have a slight fascination in names and their meanings/historical context of how they're structured, and as far as the Perfect Court goes, there are a few fun facts about them that add an interesting layer to their backstories. We know Riko taking Jean’s middle name "Yves" was intentional and significant in signifying his lack of identity in the Nest. But Riko and Kevin also have (possibly unintentional) significants in their names as well.
For Riko, in Western cultures, we generally think of "Rico," the masculine Spanish/Italian name meaning "king" or "ruler," but in Japanese, the name "Riko" is traditionally a feminine name meaning "jasmine child" or "loyal child" depending on the characters used to spell it.
In Kevin’s case, it's a missing middle name, which is actually a bit more significant than Jean missing his. In Europe, middle names became a thing because of the high population prior to the Black Plague. (Multiple Johns or Marys could be distinguished by their middle name.) But, in Celtic regions, the belief in not telling people your middle name was associated with the fae. If they ask for your name and you don't give them your middle, then they don't have your "true name," and you're safe. As Kevin's mom was Irish, she definitely would have given him one as it's a normal practice. But by the Moriyamas removing it, it strips him of some of his cultural heritage.
Take this information and draw your own conclusions as you see fit. I just think it's an interesting thing to point out.
My favorite thing about humans is that they'll pack bond with literally anything. Even when we make something that's just a tool to use, something that doesn't think, sometimes doesn't even move, some human will get attached, and it becomes something precious. We make monsters meant to frighten and scare only for someone to find it friend shaped and loveable. We see it everywhere in fantasy and Sci-Fi. Dragons, demons, robots, aliens from distant worlds. Hell, we pack bond with words on a page or images on a screen because we innately want to connect even if it's with characters that don't even exist.
Despite so many of us hating the forced proximity of the modern world, myself included, I can't help but find it adorable how we're so desperate for a pack, so desperate not to be alone, that we can connect with anything.
So, realistically, how much do we think Dazai actually plans versus him just being really good at taking advantage of any situation/getting lucky and just claiming he had a plan all along? Just him being like:
Dazai: "Everything's going according to plan."
Insert Chatacter Here: "Everything's literally on fire."
Dazai, not expecting to get this far in life let alone this situation: "Which was my plan all along. Obviously. Keep up."
I think if Dazai got a psych diagnosis it would be Borderline Personality Disorder. Hear me out. He hits just about every sympton listed on the Mayo Clinic's website. Suicidal and feelings of emptiness are shown throught BSD. We see him being involved in risky behavior (gambling, drinking, literally putting himself in dangerous situations/harms way). Inappropriate, strong anger is a bit harder to catch since his isn't physical or loud like Chuuya, instead Dazai tends to get sarcastic and bitter as we see in 15 or he gets "even," if someone one ups him he attempts to destroy them as we see with Fyodor and as shown with the quote Oda had about Dazai’s enemies. His relationships are rather unstable (don't think anyone will argue with me there) and there is an argument that he has abandonment issues which is why he keeps people at arms length, kinda a "you didn't leave me, I pushed you away" deal. If you're paying attention you can also catch when he's manic and when he's masking. Most of the time, he's masking. One exception is at Lupin Bar with Oda and Ango. He's not as over the top like when he's masking, but he's also much more excitable than usual. It's a subtle difference and I've found that it's not shown in the anime as much as it is the novels.
Please note: I say this as someone who is diagnosed neurospicy, so my personal experience may be at play in my analysis.
“I was minding my own business, taking advantage of the hot springs around here, and that little fucker inked me!”
Or one of the many shenanigans that happened while the Thirteen Great Warriors were climbing the Tower.
I love any Atsushi hc where he has cat-like behavior. It's so adorable to see fanart of him doing the cat rub thing/head butt against other characters, but i would also like to see more tiger specific traits. Like they have "flexible spines" which gives them a wide range of movement compared to other big cats, their salive has antiseptic properties, they love water, and their canines have pressure-sensitive nerves to know where to bite their prey. All of which would be interesting in a fic, i think.
Anytime I see the bsd beach art my first thought is RIP to the redheads. Chuuya and Jun’ichirou would be sooo burnt (I give Atsushi a 50/50 chance on burning or actually tanning considering white hair generally means less melanin but not always). I don't care how much sunscreen is used, I've never met a natual redhead that didn't burn after 5 minutes in direct sunlight regardless of precautions. And we fully know Dazai would use that fact against Chuuya for shenanigans. 🤣🤣🤣
She/They The account I can talk about fan stuff on. I also post fanfics on AO3 by the same username.
