Looks like it's working to me.
the hair dryer isn’t working… (-_-;)
i wanna resurrect this dead blog with another half-assed stupid meme comic, but before i do that, i want to point out that, if you really look at the subtleties, there’s a high probability that Kamijou Touma subconsciously knows Accelerator’s real name
Hi! I really like your toaru analysis - especially the kamiichi and NT stuff. Question: do you HC a precise moment where kamiichi falls in love/realise they are in love? (Not that accel will ever admit it- but y'know)
thank u 4 validating my inability 2 shut tf up it is very much appreciated and also all i want for christmas is kamiichi
i’m not sure whether you’re referring to a canon moment or just headcanon, so i guess i’ll consider both.
regarding canon, one of my twitter kamiichi gang mutuals made a joke about that and i’m gonna go ahead and find that post
tbh in canon, it’s pretty much all but outright stated that Accelerator loves Kamijou Touma. I don’t think there’s really a definite moment for it.
From his very first volume as a protagonist, he’s shown to be enamored with the hero who went up against the strongest esper in Academy City with nothing but a sense of righteousness and a really weird right hand and actually triumphed, so much so that he spent over a week aimlessly mulling over their battle. That guy made a deep impression on him, in more ways than one. From then on, his character development is carried by him following that impression (read: following his heart) and chasing after Kamijou Touma’s back while following his own path. Pretty much every time Accel finds himself at crossroads or a roadblock or any kind of crisis, he thinks of Touma. iirc Salome called him his “really annoying fan”, it’s a fandom joke that Accel is Touma’s #1 fan, Aleister Crowley teased him for his protectiveness of him, the Will implied that he at least cares about him as much as the Sisters do, and Qliphah Puzzle 545 teased him for being subtly happy in a very tsundere fashion when they interacted. There may be more instances of other characters pointing out just how much Kamijou Touma means to Accelerator, but that’s just what i remember off the top of my head.
Accelerator himself seems to act a bit differently around him, caring less about what’s appropriate for a guy like him under his influence, and showing really, really, subtle hints of fondness and affection. not to self-insert, but i pointed out elsewhere that Accelerator throws out everything he’s ever held himself to be for Touma’s sake or due to his influence. While Last Order plays a pivotal role in stabilizing his character, Kamijou Touma is the one who drives Accelerator’s development, something Accel treasures very much.
Befitting of his abilities, Accelerator is a person who loves reflecting. A lot of his exposition and narration is dedicated to introspecting on what he knows for the sake of clarity and honesty. Ironically, between the two of them, Accel actually cares more about doing the right thing as opposed to Touma, who just does what he feels is the right thing, going into their parallel yet intersecting negation-reflection perfect yin-yang foil dichotomy, but that’s a topic for another long overdue ramble. Anyhow i digress. Chances are, Accelerator’s already aware he at least feels something incredibly similar to love towards Kamijou Touma, whether he can muster the guts to unabashedly call it so or not. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that Accelerator holds towards Kamijou Touma the purest form of love in his entire harem, for the sole reason that there’s no self-interest or self-preservation involved.
No one can undergo that much personal change, sacrifice, and surrender for someone else for any reason other than pure love.
But on that possibility, an interesting development that happened in the final arc of NT seemed to be Accel proudly embracing his inner child, which sets an interesting development for his character going forward. I don’t think it’s too much to hope for an actual admittance/confession, because Accelerator is an incredibly dynamic character, so much so that a large portion of his character is centered around “never stop growing” (heh acceleration). At the current rate of his development, it’s entirely possible that what we thought impossible to turn out to be a subversion of expectations.
tbh the only good argument against Accelerator being in love with Kamijou Touma is the fact that he’s canonically aroace, but i feel like there are some misconceptions there that should be cleared up. 1) romsex is more a matter of tastes or libido than depth, and 2) from my experience, it’s not so much aroaces don’t love so much as they feel a more…childlike type of it?? one way or another you can def be in love with someone while still being aroace accelerator is already in love with kamijou touma i dont see a problem here.
On the other hand, we don’t get as clear or thorough of a view of how Kamijou Touma views Accelerator or much of a perspective of how he views love in general aside from what’s played for laughs, but that isn’t to say that there isn’t something there.
First and foremost, I’d like to point out that Accelerator is basically current Kamijou Touma’s “first”. You could say that Aureolus Izzard was technically post-amnesia Touma’s first villain, but the fact that OT2 is among the most forgettable volumes is intentional, as Kamachi specifically mentioned something along the lines of how he designed Aureolus to be a failed/pathetic version of Touma and Himegami Aisa to be a girl unfit to be a heroine. Not unlike Misaka Mikoto’s arc, Accelerator’s Level 6 Shift is their first step into the depths of darkness of Academy City, and the fact that he doesn’t flesh out the #1′s character from the get go to initially establish him as pure evil is telling. From then on, pretty much all developments in that impression come very distantly, from either satellite sources/mutual connections or from the fact that Touma doesn’t explicitly or deeply contemplate Accel nearly as much as the #1 does of him, though that’s mostly a matter of personality or circumstantial differences than anything really telling, as Touma really isn’t one for self-reflection the way Accel is.
We know that Touma knows, or at least has the knowledge at his disposal to put two and two together, that Accel is actually not the bad person he projects himself to be, that he feels some sort of solidarity in their alliance and some sort of fellowship in their mutual sufferings in the condition of being a Toaru protag, but isn’t quite comfortable around him yet for casual conversation or companionship. We know that he knows that Accel’s been hurt a lot in his life, albeit in a different, more debilitating way, and knows that a lot of the darkness he’s manipulated into is not his fault. We know that he values his input and admires his power, considering him wise and responsible, and respects their differences in background and modus operandi, sometimes even counting on him to cool his head or clear his mind. We also know that he finds him attractive.
We probably know more, but the content is probably stored in some obscure semicanon side story or whatever or just something i otherwise don’t know or remember so pls,,, paging all of kamiichi gang to serve the kamiichi commune and provide more kamiichi content.
So it isn’t accurate to say that it’s entirely one-sided just because Accel’s narrative is more Touma-focused than vice-versa. Even in what little we’re shown, they mutually worry about each other’s safety/wellbeing and get angry in each other’s stead, even when it’s an incredibly minor transgression (e.g. Touma getting angry at Aleister lacking gratitude after Accel saved them and Accel getting pissed when Touma lamented being nothing special without his right hand). They also play a big role in each other’s character developments, holding each other in high regard while being committed to their individual paths and reassuring each other of theirs. I see a lot of people turn a blind eye to this, but Accelerator actually plays a major role in Kamijou Touma’s character development, sparse as their interactions may be.
I love everything about what we’re given about this pairing thus far, the symbolic/narrative/thematic setup, the (few) interactions and banter, the black-and-white 168 cm aesthetic, but i’m really hooked on the potential. The biggest tragedy of kamiichi is the fact that these two like never interact outside the battlefield, because Accelerator has both the capability and the predisposition to singlehandedly help a brother out of a fuck load of his everyday problems and fulfill a shit ton of his longings, were he to actually know about them and get an opportunity to.
According to Kamachi, neither either of Kamijou Touma and Accelerator nor Kamachi Kazuma himself actually have much interest in romance, so i feel like it’s actually pretty unlikely for either of them to go the romance route with any particular harem member, but that isn’t to say they won’t form a strong, loving bond. If anything, they’d probably be able to bond over that. The rest is left to interpretation and fanon.
as for headcanon, idk dude,,, i’m a simple farmer in this commune i just want them to interact more and water my crops. i’ve gotten pretty immersed in writing (or at least fantasizing about) an intense kamiichi fic but that’s another story. i’ve also been thinking about the extensive similarities between galolio from promare with kamiichi from toaru but that too is another story on top of being unrelated
all i want for christmas is more kamiichi juice.
fr tho, pls kamachi,,,, atone for this weird oversexualization of minors and unnecessary fanservice with a genuinely deep and healthily fulfilling relationship. the latest developments in the plot and Academy City actually set the stage for Accel being more involved in the main plot, so i’m really excited to see where we go from here.
I will say, however, i feel both of them are too stubborn and have too many more pressing concerns/distractions to give much attention to defining love, plus a love realization requires some sort of reflection, which is not Kamijou Touma’s strong suit, so when i headcanon or imagine shit, i need plot devices or setting factors to force their hand into confessions or declarations or expressions of love.
i’m not sure if that really answers your question but,,,,,,, im love kamiichi
tl;dr: enemies to rivals to allies to friends to lovers to soulmates kamiichi longplay
The VTOL craft with Mikoto stuck to its main wing shook as it slowly approached the fortress.
That was when her eyes met with that idiot’s.
That spiky-haired boy seemed to be utterly perplexed at seeing that escape method appearing before him out of the blue. Deep down Mikoto wanted to say “What were you even planning to do, you idiot?”, but she did not have time to get after him about that. She would lecture him to death later.
Mikoto made it all the way out to the end of the wing and stretched her arms out as far as they would go.
Would she reach him? Or would she not?
Her fingertips made it to the point where they were on the verge of reaching. But then the boy did something she had never expected. He shook his head. And then his hand, which he should have been holding out, stopped moving. (Wha—!?) Just as Mikoto’s eyes opened wide in surprise, the boy’s lips moved slightly. She could not hear what he was saying. However, she could tell what it was from the movement of his lips.
“I still have something I need to do.”
Another great tremor ran through the fortress. The fortress moved toward the earth much more and with much less stability than before. It was like a large ball rolling down a hill picking up enough speed that it could no longer be stopped. She had to retrieve that idiot from there. If things advanced more than that, she would no longer be able to reach him. Mikoto came to that conclusion mostly with her intuition.
But then the VTOL craft suddenly moved. It shook as if it were leaving the fortress. “Wait!! What are you doing!?”
“The trembling of the fortress has passed beyond a certain point, reports Misaka. If we remain close to it, there is a danger of crashing into it.”
“…!!”
While still stuck to the trembling wing, Mikoto held out her hand and manipulated magnetism.
She didn’t care if she had to force him.
She would magnetically grab his school uniform’s buttons, his belt buckle, or whatever she could and pull that boy out of that fortress.
That was what she planned to do, but the magnetic thread connecting her and that boy suddenly snapped.
“Eh…?”
Mikoto stared blankly because she did not understand what had happened. But immediately afterwards, she figured it out. That boy had a mysterious power that could negate all of Mikoto’s abilities. He had severed his final lifeline.
He had lost his final chance.
Even though she had the power to take on a tank and even though she had the power to stop the firing of a nuclear missile, it was not enough to save that one boy.
There were two moments in this particular novel I could say saddened me. The moment above ^^ and then this moment that had preceded it:
“Where are you going? says Misaka as Misaka asks a question.” Her eyes wavered as she looked up from within his arms.
Most likely, she understood what Accelerator was about to do. And because she understood, she was trying to stop him.
“You’re not going anywhere, right? says Misaka as Misaka checks to be sure.” “Don’t worry. It’ll all be over soon.” Accelerator did not say that he would be back or that he would be returning.
The monster with the black wings gently removed the small hands from his clothes one finger at a time. It was as if he were shaking off the final bonds that kept him anchored to the surface.
“No,” said Last Order in a small voice. “I want to always be with you, says Misaka as Misaka begs you.”
“…Yes.” Accelerator admitted it. In the very, very end, he responded with a childlike smile on his face. “I wanted to always be with you, too.”
With a sound like cracks spreading across ice, the monster’s wings changed color. The ink-like pitch black changed to a snow-like pure white. Starting from the base and spreading to the tips, the outer color and the inner essence all changed in an instant.
That was his transformation.
With that mental change, he became a source that spewed forth a unique power into the real world.
Accelerator put his hands on Last Order’s small shoulders, lightly pushed, and floated up into the sky due to the recoil like an astronaut in zero gravity.
Last Order’s small hands stretched up into the sky toward Accelerator. But she could not reach him.
These are the two of the few moments from the end of the initial series that have stuck with me. These two protagonists - completely opposite in their views and their approach to the world - came to mirror each others actions in the end. They both chose to make a sacrifice, wasting no time whatsoever on deliberating on whether they should or not. They didn’t weigh their options - and in Accelerator’s case that means a great deal.
The parallel between them is only strengthened, when the two who (whom I feel at least - excluding Index) loved them most, presented themselves to their hero with a reason not to go on.
In the end, both Accelerator and Touma chose not to listen to Mikoto and Last Order; not because they didn’t care about them, but because they cared so much for their and others wellbeing that the only thought that occurred to them was to go on and lay down their lives whilst all Mikoto and Last Order could do was reach.
It’s such a powerful parallel for me, and it provided a moment of clarity for me concerning how I truly felt about each of these characters…
Plus it was god damned sad.
When the Dark Side offered him even the hope of a bit of light (not having to be so destructive), he was killing to kill 20,000 clones for it. When Last Order showed him even the tiniest ray of light, he was willing to (and almost did) die for it. I love him so much.
us kamiichi stans talk a lot about this scene, primarily that famous “handsome” line that spawned a tsunami in shipmates, but i’d also like to point out how ooc it is for accelerator to willingly explain his thought processes in layman’s terms without any sort of prompting or hint of reluctance, and furthermore how accel regularly acts ooc and throws out everything he holds himself to be for kamijou touma’s sake or due to his influence
Maybe I have this wrong but in your last post about Accel, you mention the possibility of Aleister being his father? That’s a theory of mine so I’d love to read your thoughts on the matter. Do you think Aleister could be the father of Index too?
haha i meant Aleister being a deadbeat dad more of a figurative sense. In the latest arc, Accelerator, Aleister, and Kamijou’s dynamic is likened to a classroom setting, and the parallels between them are highlighted.
“That logic may have been similar to Aleister Crowley’s when he parted ways with the Golden cabal over his anger at the thought of some unknown person being hit by the recoil and side effects of magic.”
“That darkness may have been the same kind of hell that Aleister had experienced long ago. When looking into the pasts of serial killers, it was unfortunately common to find they had been victims of horrific violence as a child.”
In other words, I guess I’d say by Kamachi’s intent, Kamijou parallels Aleister’s active noble intentions, whereas Accelerator parallels Aleister’s reflective tragic backstory. They’re both Aleister Crowley’s sons/students in the sense that they were raised and groomed by Academy City to be central to his plans, though his relationship with Accelerator seems a lot more akin to a son than a student. The text didn’t go that far so as to say anything about biological parentage.
After all this, I haven’t actually answered your question lmao
Since we don’t really know a whole lot about Accelerator’s background, I’m gonna withhold any conclusion on that theory. However, while I like the idea of them being related, with them both being androgynous-looking, pearly-haired geniuses, I’m a bit skeptical of the idea that he’s Aleister’s genetic offspring. The cherishing, papa bear sort of love he showed towards his confirmed biological daughters just seems too significantly different from the attitude he displayed towards Accel. I mean, he even referred to him as “vector control device” in OT13. Kamijou emphasizes that he couldn’t let Aleister go believing his daughter hated him, but Aleister didn’t seem to give much of a shit about Accelerator hating him. I think lack of parental instinct is a pretty good indication that Accelerator isn’t Aleister’s biological son, unless it’s unwitting, Aleister really just is that shit a father, he was a sperm donor, he’s rather sexist, or he just got that disillusioned along the way. Otherwise, I’d say that he’s more of a surrogate dad figure.
By the end of NT, Aleister definitely considers Accelerator close enough to a son to try to leave his biological daughter with him, only for Accel to react in shock and Aleister to backtrack on that, as making Accelerator a sixteen year-old parent of an infant would be a bit too much.
That said, I definitely think Index having similar features to Aleister is no coincidence. How often would one come across magical genius silver-haired green-eyed Brits with strong ties to both Lola Stuart and Kamijou Touma? Since Index is the titular character of the franchise but in Kamachi’s own words, “has been rather useless as of late”, having her be related to Aleister would be a good way to tie her back to the main plot.
tbh, I’m sorta going off on a tangent here, but I think the questions of “What tf is Kamijou Touma” and “What tf is Accelerator” are both worth looking into, both based on similarities, abilities, and backgrounds. Both of them have abilities that are somewhat of an anomaly that are neither pure science nor pure magic, yet work on both. Kamijou can negate both magic and science, and Accelerator can reflect both as well; both are powers that are very nearly pure concept. Both have backgrounds that are rather dubious. In the very first volume, Kamijou brings up the possibility that he was adopted, and while it was played for laughs, it’s a very Kamachi thing to make it a Chekhov’s Gun. All Accelerator knows about his past is that his surname consisted of two kanji and his first name consisted of three.
I know I said this before, but assuming Kamachi isn’t bullshitting science, I think the fact that Accelerator sports an albino appearance despite being implied not to be genetically albino is worth looking into. It’s said that it’s a result of his abilities, but that would make it an environmental trait rather than genetic one, and albinism is very much a genetic trait. Not being exposed to UV rays shouldn’t produce that kind of result. The only explanation is that his DNA itself at some point just,, decided he didn’t need melanin??? And it would go into how Accelerator is crazy adaptable too, having developed ridiculously over the span of four months; having held his own against the Great Demon, fought a Magic God to a draw, and rewritten reality itself all within a single day of truly stepping into the world of magic; having enough assets to be able to reach Level 6 with just combat experience, without needing the calculation assistance and Personal Reality guidance supplemented in the Level 6 Shift done on Railgun.
Are the black-white/negation-reflection protags really even completely human tho, is something i’ve been asking myself for a while
Accelerator swearing to save and protect Misaka Worst, a Sister grown and programmed specifically so he'd be forced to kill her and send himself mad by doing so, just so he can spite the fuckers that have been experimenting on him and the Sisters is such a fucking mood.
probably the only one in the world who has a gripe abt this but,, if u notice, Nobuhiko Okamoto’s earlier roles as Accelerator, specifically Season 1 actually has him speaking a lot softer and smoother. While his vocal range is fucking insane, Okamoto’s default voice actually has this childlike sorta innocence to it, which i thought really suited Accel’s “lost child” theme. It wasn’t really until Season 2 that Okamoto started using that “smokes 10 packs a day, could give batman a run for his money” voice consistently. I hardly ever see Accelerator’s vocal development brought up fsr
While Okamoto is regarded one of the saving graces of Index III, i really wish he did switch back every once in a while, especially with his scenes with Last Order. Accelerator’s said to reserve a softer voice when speaking to little kids, after all.
My point is — if Index III botches that one line (you know which one i’m talking about), i’m gonna flip a billion shits
imo the coolest thing about the set-up Skill-Out Uprising/Hamazura’s illusion breaking is that at the time, Academy City had stripped Accelerator of his power, effectively making him a Level 0. Kamijou is also fighting Level 0s at the time, meaning Imagine Breaker is effectively a normal right hand. Despite not being able to bank on their supernatural defense and offense, the two protagonists still go to stop the uprising of the third up and coming protagonist.
Hamazura’s uprising was ultimately thwarted by the combined efforts of the Strongest Level 5 and the Weakest Level 0. Both fighting without powers, the combatants were all effectively equals, thereby destroying Hamazura’s deterministic illusion that the strong don’t protect the weak, the weak have to resort to wrongdoing and retaliation to live, and that righteousness is too unrealistic to hope for.
Saten: I wish I could be ranked Esper and get to be as strong as Misaka is…
Hamazura: Bitch please I’m a Level 0 and I could still beat that rank 4 hag Mugino with just my bare hands.
Saten: What? No way, a Level 0 like you and me couldn’t do that.
Kamijou: It’s true y’know, just watch S3, episode 6.
Saten: Wait, so Hamazura that means you’re the one who beat the number 1?
Hamazura: Hell no. *points at Touma* It was this guy who beat Accelerator, made Misaka Mikoto’s electricity moot, AND he could beat me up!
Kamijou: You make me sound like a threat when I’m just a High School Student.
Hamazura: DUDE WHAT THE HELL YOU’RE A LEGEND. GET YOUR HEAD OUT THE GUTTER!
