THE POWERPUFF GIRLS ARE MY CHILDHOOD! 💖🥺 I love that show

I just heard about the live action powerpuff girls series under development. It’s about them as adults in their 20′s trying to have normal lives and resenting their superhero childhoods, I guess until bad shit happens and they’re needed again.

I get it, I really do, but why they gotta do that with these characters? Multiple whole episodes of the original Powerpuff Girls revolved around how much the Professor wanted them to have peaceful little kid lives or lived in terror of losing them and he even tried to reach compromises again and again. He tried to be a real parent and give them rules and curfews, he tried to build them a giant robot just so they could still do what they want without getting hurt, he even tried to make his own supersuit and be there with them. All of these things made them so miserable or did so much more harm than good that he kept having to concede that there was just no containing them. That doesn’t parallel some deadbeat irresponsible parent no matter how cynically you try to take it. The girls are powerful enough that even slaying a giant monster is as easy and safe for them as a regular kid playing outdoors, so if it parallels anything, it parallels how parents have to weigh protecting their children against letting those children be themselves. I’m sure if they make the new show (it’s not quite set in stone yet) it might be an interesting AU, pretty much anything can be written and directed competently enough to be good. It just also feels like it wasn’t conceived of specifically in regards to this license, but just because they got a license that involved child superheroes at all and their consideration ended there.
