I don’t think we talk about how hard it is to make new friends as an autistic person past early middle school. By the end of seventh grade, most people try to kill all their weirdness off so they’ll actually be likable by the scathing general public, but for some of us, that’s borderline impossible. I still don’t know when to stop talking, I still hyperfixate for months on one topic, I’m still too loud or too quiet or too late to the conversation.
