An Au where all the Invincible Variants we saw were kept alive to defend Earth from Viltrumites

This will be called the AVRP AU from now on, and here’s a few of the base line notes I wrote for the Au. This Au is meant to be shared, so if you want to create your own interpretation of it, I encourage it! Ideas and questions are also encouraged so I can expand the story of the AU.

I have some designs for the variants, some sketches, and some story building that I hope to share in the near future! Also, anyone have ideas for names for the variants? I don’t want to just call them Mohawk, Viltrum, Tracksuit, etc, because those aren’t real names yk?

Talking about Mark, Amber and Eve in Invincible:

This isn’t to hate on the show in any form, it’s a minor critique as I love to dissect and discuss parts of shows that I love. This is meant for me to rant into the darkness of the abyss, and maybe it’ll talk back to me.

Spoilers for Invincible- but just the show. Not the comics.

First off, I like Amber and I think people overhate her. I’m a firm believer that you are allowed not like a character and not have a reason, though usually your dislike will come from Something, because it’s your opinion. Where the problem begins, to me at least, is when you’re attacking anyone who like the character or have to be like “well I don’t like them” whenever they’re brought up in a positive way. Hey, how about this? Lemme talk about this character for one second without bringing up the fact you don’t like this character. Thanks! 🙏🏽

Amber meant a lot to me, when I first started invincible the first time- I was excited to see a black girl be the main love interest (as a black woman yk). I could tell by the way they were setting up she was about to be the disposable black girlfriend but I was in denial. (I could go on a whole rant about the treatment of black women in media and I might soon) At that time, I didn’t even finish season 1, or I don’t remember finishing it but I didn’t continue the series because I didn’t like gore. I finished season 2 and 3 this year and I do have to say I saw it coming. Mark and Eve getting together, and I will not lie- I was disappointed. I will say maybe my bias for Amber will cloud what I’m about to say but I also think I would’ve thought this regardless.

I don’t like how Mark and Eve’s relationship has turned out. I like all three of these characters- even when their actions get on my nerves. Season 3 made Mark and Eve feel unlikable to me. Maybe it’s whenever they’re together but still. A lot of what Mark and Eve were doing this season was having sex, and barely communicating further than “it’s not your fault” if that makes sense. It’s not like they don’t talk, period. They talked season 1, perhaps even season 2. Season 3 however Eve felt like a Yes Man to me, or more so just her comforting him for a bit before they have sex. That’s not a problem, but when you compare how Amber and Mark bonded in their relationship before they even had sex together it made me wish we had that in a way. It felt rushed, and I heard it’s because they cut a lot of the romance from the comic but it’s also why I think they should’ve had a gap before he got with Eve because it just FEELS RUSHED.

Now, for the moments that pissed me off the most. When Eve broke her leg and was in the hospital and he didn’t leave her side. I understand it’s not a typical break but him not leaving her just pissed me off. I understand that he might not make the best decisions at this age, but me being the same age, I’d be more worried for my brother and mother out there- like Cecil said. Then Cecil said Eve wouldn’t like that he was there the whole time, Mark said “I don’t care”. Don’t piss me off. PLEASE, could they have used this plot point because I guaranteed Eve WOULD have been pissed. In season 1 when Mark got dumped and didn’t want to help, she scolded him for it. She said she would rather save lives than pout like how he was.

And Rex’s funeral. They definitely fucked that up, because why was Rae the only one sad? I mean, Eve was, but that went down the drain when Mark was smiling and shi and then they fuck. “I’m just glad you’re alive” HUH. Brotha, someone you knew just died! And you two seemed to be friends in season 3 like huh????? I am a sucker for family dynamics, like Arcane, so when he seems to put Eve above his family I’m ngl it pmo.

And back to Amber, I loved her because of how fierce she was, the ability to stand up for herself. She reflects Debbie but certain fans don’t wanna hear that. Not saying Eve is a doormat by any means, she’s strong (even though the show constantly is nerfing her for Mark to be stronger), and was able to stand up for what she thought was right. I love Eve, just not whenever she’s with Mark, romantically at least. And I like Mark, except for when he’s with Eve. And I love Amber, period. I agree with all her points in season 1, talk to a wall about it if you don’t because I’m not changing my mind.

Anyways, I’m just screaming into the void so this doesn’t bother me that much anymore lol.

.Girl hear me out please . I wanted to ask if you could do a reader (who's also mark's girlfriend from invincible) that has the ability to manipulate time and because of that power she has a calm, logical, and emotionally reserved nature and having a strong sense of control and are often level-headed, even in stressful situations since she has future vision as well so she knows the outcome of every situation. This in tail make her struggle to process and express emotions in the present moment due to her precognitive abilities. This leads to a perceived coldness and detachment, especially when contrasted with anyones emotional intensity. Basically because she knows the outcome in every situation she doesn't express any emotion in the present. So the scenario is that reader knew that nolan would not only get rid of old guardians but also try to do the same with mark at season 1 but didn't say anything because she knew it was necessary for mark and earth development. How would mark and the others(new guardians and cecil) react to learning this information .

You had to keep your ability to manipulate time and predict the future a secret because of how it fared for you in the past. Your powers can control time, but only in limited portions. You could try to reverse time, but the most you can do is a couple minutes and it takes a severe toll on your body, same with speeding up time, or slowing it down so it’s in slow motion for you. On a rare occasion you can freeze all of time, so you can be the only one moving, but this is even more draining and if you aren’t careful you can slip into a deep sleep for a day or two. You can see possibilities, that will depend on certain actions- then there’s future events that no matter how hard you try, you can’t stop. It’s like a cannon event, except there is truly no way to stop it- life will find a way for this event to happen.

The only one who knows of this ability is Cecil, and you just have to pretend you're a regular person who just happens to help out at the GDA.

When you start dating Mark, he is like a lost puppy, trying to constantly understand if he did something wrong, or if that’s how you always are.

He eventually grows a little used to it, but it’s obvious that he wishes he could understand what is going on in your brain.

Due to you helping out at the GDA, you work around the new guardians when they do arrive.

When you worked with the old guardians, they liked you and treated you like an apprentice- even if you didn’t plan on becoming a hero. Martian man, Green ghost and Red Rush were particularly fond of you, always checking up on you- very understanding of your personality. The others were fond of you too, just in a less obvious way. DarkWing understood your cold personality and a personal level, and you got along with his “assistant” NightBoy- due to you being close in age.  They didn’t know of your powers, but they had suspicions due to certain events that had happened in the past.

As soon as they were confirmed to all be dead, you got the look from Cecil that says he’s angered by you, and disappointed. The Guardians were like your second home, so why did you let them die? You didn’t even need to confirm you knew the outcome, he already knew. 

He told you off, but he couldn’t let that stop you from working because he will need you to figure out how to stop Omni-Man. He will try every way to bribe you into telling him what the future holds, or how to stop Omni-Man. 

While you do little to show your emotions, the Guardians deaths were not lost to you. You had mourned them two weeks before they even died, but once it hits you they’re actually gone, you silently cry to yourself.

Mark tries to encourage you to show him your grief, and when you are presenting your detachment- he gets a little frustrated but doesn’t push it.

When you see the future of what Omni-Man will do to Mark, you feel a wave of dread. It’s something that is strong and you’ve only felt a handful of times- but the empty feeling, the rush of a depressing acceptance. You see the other outcomes, how Mark could become, and you know you can’t interfere.

Bad Ending

Cecil watches as you sit next to Mark in the hospital with his mom, and he will call you over and ask when you will tell Mark- because the longer you keep the secret, the angrier Mark will be when he finds out.

You think it over, and it gets out before you can tell him. Nurses in his room had overheard the conversation and were whispering about it when they thought Mark was asleep.

Mark is pissed, when he gets out he’s arguing with you in front of the new guardians, and then he broke up with you and told you to go away.

New guardians started distancing themselves from you as well. Even if you try to explain it to them, they don’t want to hear it. Especially Mark. 

Robot will talk to you every now and then, but that’s about it. Unfortunately, you knew this would happen. When you were a kid, you knew that in the future- you would end up alone because of these powers. It was meant to happen and you cannot change it. Now, you’re alone while working at the GDA. Mark won’t even look in your direction anymore, even if you still love him- there’s no way he will forgive you.

Good Ending

You sit next to Mark’s bed with Debbie. She has been very understanding of you being emotionally distant, perceived as cold. However, she can tell past your eyes that you’re struggling to see Mark hurt like this.

She goes to ask you how you feel and you let it all come spilling out. Everything. She sits there and listens. Afterwards, you feel a little ashamed. Her son is in the hospital, her husband being a mass murderer and you just ranted about how it’s a burden to know all of this. Out of shame, and fear of the worst outcome, you leave.

You’re scared to go back but after a few days, you do go back. She smiles warmly at you, and motions for you to come closer. Mark is awake, and she had told him everything beforehand. He’s mad, but mostly just hurt that you didn’t tell him, but due to Debbie putting it into perspective- he is willing to forgive you. 

After that, you guys talk about boundaries and how to proceed with your relationship. He is okay not knowing everything you know as long as you are open to communicating your feelings and emotions better with him. You two will work it out, one step at a time.

Slightly suggestive topics

All three of you have never been in a polyamorous relationship before so it was a new learning experience for everyone. You were probably the first to get used to it compared to the other two- especially since they were in monogamous relationships beforehand.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 Sleeping Arrangements:

None of you live together (not yet) so whenever you guys have time, it’s just sleeping at each other’s place. Sleeping with the two of them is a nightmare. Mark has night terror and it leads to him screaming in his sleep and kicking or throwing his arms around. Rex has restless leg syndrome and he’s constantly kicking or moving his legs in his sleep. He doesn’t stay still, often pushing whoever is near him either off the bed, or closer to the other. He also snores as loud as fuck, if you have misophonia… it’s torture to listen to him. you’ll wake up looking like you’ve been through hell the two wake up looking like princesses that had a peaceful sleep.

Mark: “man, my body feels surprisingly rested. I think I only had one nightmare last night”

Rex: “Same! My legs aren’t as tense this morning!”

You: “…”

ᯓᡣ𐭩 Protectiveness:

Mark is stronger than you and Rex, but he doesn’t treat you like you’re fragile antiques to be protected…. Most of the time. He does have his moments where if he will have a nightmare, or his teammates may get hurt and he will start acting a little overprotective for that moment. If you’re a hero, you’ll get the same amount of protection as Rex. If you’re a civilian, Mark is going to be more protective over you. This will last for either a few days or a few weeks, depending on the situation. Other than that, neither him or Rex will treat you like you need to be protected like a child.

Rex is not very particularly protective- in the sense of overdoing it. It’s just enough. Whenever Mark gets overprotective though he is quick to call it out and try to shut that shit down. He does not like being coddled.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 Family:

Debbie loves you and Rex, welcoming both of you with open arms. She wants you both to feel like family. Oliver could care less honestly, he likes Rex a little more than you because he will play fight with the Rex…. And win.

If you have a good relationship with your family, both Mark and Rex will try their absolute best to make sure your family likes them. Mark is a natural at it, however Rex will overdo it to the point it sounds like he’s full of himself. Oops

If you don’t have a good relationship with your family, that is absolutely okay. They will reassure you that they’re your family now.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 Movie Nights:

Because of how often it is that date nights get interrupted, it usually ends up being just casual movie nights. It usually starts with Mark and Rex arguing. Not intense or anything, just back and forth. Rex always wants to pick the movie, but Mark will often fight him on it even if he doesn’t care how much on what movie they will pick. If you have a movie in mind, Mark will intensely fight to watch that movie because he doesn’t want Rex to have his way lol. Rex will grumble and give in.

If Mark has a movie he really wants you two watch with him, he WILL be that person to pause the movie and wait for you guys to stop talking because he is slightly agitated.

Mark: “no, I’ll pause and wait for you guys to stop talking.”

Rex: “Oh my god, Mark”

Mark: “There's an important scene coming up and I swear to go Rex if you ask “what just happened?” Or state “I’m confused” I am going to tape your eyelids open”

You: “Love, we’re sorry, we’ll stop now. Now please start the movie again…”

ᯓᡣ𐭩 Love Language:

For Mark, it’s physical affection. He needs one of you to have skin touching him after a long day at work. Safe to say he’s also a fan of PDA. He may rub your arm or press light kisses to your neck, or maybe just rub his face to your neck. With Rex, he will throw himself on his back, sometimes catching the other male off guard.

Rex’s love language is words of affirmation. He gets giddy if he gets a little praise for anything he does, it makes him feel completely like a good boyfriend. In a way, it’s often Acts of Service paired with Words of Affirmation. He does something for either of you and then he wants praise. Does Mark need a shoulder massage? He’ll do it. Do you need help with a task? He’s on it. He likes to act like he is annoyed first before doing anything.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 Relationship Insecurities:

Rex is doing a lot better than when he was with Eve when it comes to jealousy- but sometimes it’s still there. He has FOMO, he wants to know everything that is going on when he’s not around. He’s not jealous of you and Mark being alone, it’s more of the fact that he wants to know everything that is going on in both of your lives. It gets on Mark’s nerves sometimes.

Rex: “Oh? Oliver is sick? You didn’t tell me that”

Mark: “Because he just got sick this morning…”

Mark is afraid of being a disappointment. He’s afraid he’s going to be not good enough and maybe he’ll ruin the relationship. It’s not obvious, he doesn’t make it all that known but sometimes a late night talk will get this information out of him.

You: “You can always express this Mark. We’re both here to listen”

Mark: “Thanks, I love you both.”

ᯓᡣ𐭩 Kisses:

Mark likes to receive kisses on his jawline. It’s a little ticklish there and he may give a slight shiver and gasp if he gets a kiss there. As for giving kisses, he’s a gentleman and likes to kiss your knuckles. Rex doesn’t like being kissed on the knuckles so Mark will kiss his cheek.

Rex loves to give out earlobe kisses. Mark is ticklish and will squirm away and he will absolutely tease him about it. If you’re ticklish as well, best believe he is not going to exclude you from the teasing as well (or as Mark likes to call it: “harassment”) As for receiving kisses, he likes kisses on his nose. It’s so gentle and affectionate to him.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 Habits:

If Mark isn’t going out as Invincible right away he will get up early for a morning jog. He mostly goes by himself but he will invite you and Rex to tag along sometimes. Problem is, he does not look back during the jog and he is leaving you and Rex in the dust I fear 😭 He will be back at his house like, “I didn’t even know when I lost you guys”

Rex has a habit of losing stuff at your guys place. He’ll leave socks, money, notebooks, and once even his ID. He does it a lot yet he immediately will panic and not even think to ask you or Mark if it’s at your place. “Guys I am so fucked I lost my ID. What if I dropped it while-“ You will cut him off and explain you have it on your nightstand and Mark will laugh at him.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 Sick:

If Mark is sick, which is rarely as he has a great immune system, he is wiped out. He is curled up in bed, sleeping most of the day. Though he will try to get you and Rex to cuddle with him. Rex is a lot more hesitant to do so if Mark has the stomach flu but if not he will. Hopefully you know how to take care of him, because Rex, why he is trying, sucks at figuring out how to take care of someone who is sick. He will forget to give Mark medicine, or to check his temperature again.

Rex is kind of a brat when he is sick. He won’t tell either of you what he wants but will get mad if you can’t read his mind. Then he’ll groan about being bored, then whine a little that he’s miserable. He does want both of you around though. He will talk until he’s exhausted and then want the both of you to talk to each other to fill the quiet. Plus he likes listening to your voices.

Lord help you if you are sick. These two will somehow become dumb and dumber when trying to take care of you- it’s like them trying to be helpful is cancelling the other out. Do you want to be left alone while sick? They will not let you, they will invade your personal space. Mark is constantly checking on you and Rex won’t stop talking to the point you won’t even be able to sleep. If you get sick, it’s best to not tell them and wait until it passes over.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 Angst: (spoilers for season 3)

If we are going off canon, the Invincible War was hell. At first, Mark thought it was bad enough that there were variants of him killing and destroying everything- but hearing how Rex sacrificed himself to kill a variant of him broke something inside him. No matter how much you try to comfort him it’s not enough. He will greatly distance himself- to the point it will make you wonder if the two of you are even dating, but he will come back. You’re all he has left now.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 Fluff:

Mark and Rex love doing domestic life stuff with you. Doing dishes together may feel like an obnoxious chore, but they will make it fun. Rex will turn on music and dance while Mark hums along. If any of you are in a bad mood he will start playing Kesha or Katy Perry in hopes of cheering you guys up. Mark is mostly a vibe, he goes along with anything and will laugh the whole time.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 Smut:

Keeping it not extremely explicit but here’s some fun facts about them in bed.

Mark is VERY vocal. To the point where you might have to put a hand over his mouth. Just loud moans and jumbled up words that immediately come to mind. First time all three of you were together he bit his lip to be “modest” and then on the second round- loudest whines ever came pouring out of him like crazy and it shellshocked both you and Rex at first. Whether Mark is on top or bottom (or both) he WILL be loud about it.

Rex loves thighs. Both you and Mark have lovely thighs and he will leave hickeys on them. He will just put his head between your thighs and stare up at you while licking over his hickey he left. With Mark sometimes he will be a little rougher- wondering if hickeys will even be left on Mark’s skin. (Answer to that is not really. They’re barely visible and fade within an hour or two) So that leads to him sometimes harshly biting on Mark. Mark will let him half the time.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 Pet Names/Nicknames:

Rex will call Mark pretty boy or golden boy- depending on his mood. Pretty boy is more flirtatious and golden boy is more in a teasing manner. He tried to use the nickname puppy for Mark but it sounded like a sexual term and Mark quickly shut that down.

Rex will call you babe. Short and simple, and sometimes Mark responds to it too but it’s mostly reserved for you.

Mark uses Hun for you. It’s soft and gentle, just like him, and it carries so much affection.

He will call Rex baby, it started as baby boy but it made Rex too flustered so he shortened it. However he will call both of you “My Love”

The power Inconsistencies with Eve:

This is in no way to bash her as a character and more a slight critique to the writers xoxo

Okay so I’ve seen a few people bring up how power scaling often doesn’t work when comparing characters from a game, show, or any other media. I personally don’t like power scaling, but to each their own. Now, Invincible has very odd inconsistencies with characters. Like Mark can be ran through a building and get back up but the electric shock of Powerplex will fuck him up? But also it barely affected Mohawk Mark? See what I mean?

I feel the biggest victim of the inconsistency in the writing is Atom Eve. Which Mark is a victim of this too but the most obvious for me is Atom Eve. I feel like we all know her power is OP as hell, that’s why they gave her the mental blocks as a plot line in the first place. But even WITH the mental blocks there’s still a lot she can do but the writers just won’t let her.

Yeah, it’s because they don’t want her to outshine Mark because he’s the protagonist, but then why give her that OP power? It’s probably because they wanted her to be able to be “immortal” or whatever but I don’t agree with that choice anyways.

They could’ve explained it too. Like saying that creating anything but those useless walls takes a lot out of her in terms of stamina. But they didn’t?

AND DONT GET ME STARTED ON HER SAYING TO MARK “now we just have to figure out how to afford a house” AFTER SHE GAVE HER DAD A GOLD APPLE AND AFTER SHE MADE HERSELF A TREE HOUSE AND AFTER SHE MADE THAT HOUSE FOR THE PEOPLE OR WHATEVER. That line truly pissed me off.
