I get what this person is saying but I don’t agree.
I read Seven Days the manga and watched the films years before I read Date Me Bryson Keller, and while they are similar with the whole ‘date for a week thing’ it’s different. I can see how the author of the book drew inspiration or took Seven days as a writing prompt. But the character’s are completely different. The whole dating for a week is a dare and is well explained. In the manga it is passed off as the guy breaking it off with girls because they don’t click. In Bryson Keller, it’s a dare and a game.
So no. I wouldn’t say that it is plagiarising. He only copied the ‘date for a week’ concept which I have read in other books as well. It’s a pretty common prompt. The book is so much more than that. The plot is about having the confidence to be yourself and how the main character develops his courage and bravery. It’s also about him confronting his family and finding the will to fight for himself.
The book also explores what it means to me mixed race and LGBT. It puts to words the complexity with being mixed and growing up, while also dealing with the difficulties of coming out.
While I loved Seven days the manga, it was all about the romance.
I will repeat myself. The book is far more complex and deserves not to be judged by the manga. Just as the manga should not be judged by the book. Both deal with their own cultures and characters. The writing prompt maybe the same. But they are also so different.
Please give them both a try. They are amazing.
It’s 2020 and people are still out here westernizing non-Western works and selling it as their own I’m so tired. Please go read Tachibana Venio & Takarai Rihito’s Seven Days instead.
i am not someone who has ever said, written, or thought this phrase before but i had to sit on my hands every second of saltburn to keep myself from posting “this is SO MAJOR.” it’s so major. so so so so so fucking major. made in a lab for sickos of my exact variety. you will gasp. you will squirm. you will cover your mouth in shock. you will go holy fuck. people walked out. the girls next to me screamed YES! and i said yes with them. so major. so major. and as a bonus it’s one of those movies that pretends to be for intellectuals even though the storytelling is absolutely for simple people so you feel smart just for watching a very straightforward film. not even a film. a flick. what more can i say. finally a film about toxic obsessive girl friendships except they’re boys with names that only cats should have (oliver and felix)
So true thank god.
Being in fandoms are great but being in book fandoms are even better because people already know you’re a bookworm so when you’re reading fanfic at a family gathering they don’t even question it when you say you’re reading an ebook
Wei Ying scaring the dog (and the dog scaring Wei Ying)
A short Drabble based of my other two part soulmate AU for Jack and ZhaoZi.
Tang Yi never gave much thought to his soulmate words. There was always something more pressing in his life, such as looking after Hong Ye, managing the business, of working on his cooking. After Mr Tang gave him a home he simply didn’t bother with the idea of a soulmate. He had all the happiness that he needed.
But then Mr Tang died and he found himself stuck in a hospital bed recovering from a nearly fatal bullet wound to the chest. At first he was so consumed with his grieving emotions and thoughts of revenge that he hadn’t really noticed the man come through the door. The doctor at his bedside had glanced up at the visitor before leaving the room, his departure making Tang Yi adress the man. He was young, probably around his age, with short cut black hair and a expressive face. His eyes were red rimmed and it was clear he had been crying. For a moment Tang Yi wondered why the man had been crying before he recalled the other body. The female officer had also been murdered with Mr Tang. She must have been close to this young officer.
“Do you know who shot you?”
The question caught Tang Yi by surprise and he felt the scribble on his forearm heat up. Refusing to think about the consequences of the reaction of his words, he schooled his face into a calm expression.
“No” he stated clearly. He watched as the officer’s eyes widened as his hand flew to the back of his neck. But before he could speak the hospital doors flew open and a small guy poked his head through.
“Shao Fei”, he called as the officer turned around. “The boss wants you to head back to the station. Says they need help going through Tang’s files”.
Shao Fei groaned and turned back to glare at Tang Yi. “I know that you know who shot you, no matter what you say”, he said stubbornly. Tang Yi was just noticing how big Shao Fei’ ears were. (He’s on a lot of medication. Sue him) “I promise you that I will figure out the truth and bring the people responsible to justice”, Shao Fei continued. Tang Yi tilted his head in challenge, meeting Shao Fei’s gaze. “Let’s hope you get there first then”, he muttered just loud enough for the other to hear. The pissed off expression Shao Fei gave him almost made him snort. The guy just looked too ridiculous with his monkey ears. As Shao Fei left the room, Tang Yi was left considering their encounter and hoping that he would not have to deal with such a loud impulsive officer again.
Unfortunately, Shao Fei didn’t get the same idea.
For four years the officer pursued him. The guy seemed to pop up everywhere and it was getting on Tang Yi’s nerve. He was too busy trying to turn the company legal to pay attention to the stubborn policeman. Every occurrence consisted of Shao Fei asking questions and Tang Yi responding with cool dismissals and negative answers. He half wondered, whenever he gave Shao Fei a thought, why the officer even bothered? He would even turn up when off work! He had to admire his persistence.
As time drew on, Tang Yi started finding benefits to Shao Fei’s chase. Leaving anonymous tips at the station about a secret meeting between him and various other gang leaders was a easy way to get his enemies arrested. Besides, Jack’s descriptions of Shao Fei’s face every time he realised that Tang Yi was not there were too good to be true.
The officer was the best to tease. His face was so expressive that Tang Yi just couldn’t help annoying him just for the reaction. Cuffing him to the elevator with his own handcuffs was by far the funniest. Shao Fei had looked so frustrated and angry that Tang Yi has to fight back a grin. But despite this teasing and the continued persistence Shao Fei, neither men discussed the subject of soulmates.
That is until they were kidnapped and hiding on some mountain side.
It was Shao Fei who broached it first. He was quietly watching the fire Tang Yi had made when he spoke. “Did your words ever react?” He asked. The question surprised Tang Ti who paused his action of poking the flames and turned to face the other. Shao Fei looked tired and his face had a slight vulnerability that Tang Yi had never seen before. He was not meeting his gaze, eyes fixed on the fire in front of him and Tang Yi could see the blood on his sleeve where his tie was wrapped around the wound.
“It’s just”, Shao Fei continued after a minute of Tang Yi not responding. “When mine heated up, it caught me by surprise. Its on the back of my neck so I never really paid attention to it. It was a complete refusal anyway”. Shao Fei shifted, voice becoming sad. His shirt collar moved and Tang Yi could just about see the neat word ‘No’ inscribed at the base of his neck. Tang Yi didn’t say anything. After a few minutes Shao Fei headed inside the shelter, leaving Tang Yi with his thoughts.
The first time Tang Yi felt the urge to kiss Shao Fei was when he was looking for his lighter. He was so afraid that he had lost it somewhere on that mountain that when Shao Fei turned up with the lighter in hand, Tang Yi was shocked by the sudden urge to kiss the other senseless arising in his chest. As he always did, he ignored the feeling and thanked the other.
However, the more his ignored his feelings, the more they seemed to rise. It was particularly bad when the puppy like officer invited himself to stay over under the excuse of ‘protecting’ Tang Yi. Especially since the self sacrificing idiot kept on getting himself injured for him. Although, his flustered expression when Tang Yi gave him a back massage was hilarious.
But then Shao Fei got shot protecting Hong Ye and Tang Yi was consumed by a sudden fear of losing the annoying policeman. He hadn’t even realised that he had began to care for him until the threat of losing him was too much. Every time he returned to the hospital, he was struck by feelings of care and admiration for the man in the bed. At first he ignored the feelings until Shao Fei would look up and greet him with a smile that Tang Yi couldn’t help but return.
So when Shao Fei asked him to walk with him up to the hospital roof, Tang Yi happily agreed. Watching Shao Fei overlook the city and drink in the fresh air left a warm smile on his face. When Shao Fei turned around and pulled him into a kiss, Tang Yi responded before he could even think things through, kissing back with so much hunger that it caught Shao Fei by surprise.
As they finally pulled away, Shao Fei rested his forehead against Tang Yi’s. “I have been pursuing you for four years Tang Yi”, he grinned. “Can I assume that this is an answer to my confession?” Tang Yi smiled at Shao Fei’s proud puppy like expression. “Yes”, he answered. “I accept your confession”. Shao Fei laughed triumphantly before pulling him in for another kiss.
This happens with all races. Children don’t deserve to be fetishised for being born mixed race.

Tagged by @gosiksmallspace and I thought why not.
- Last Song: Take Me Back To Eden by Sleep Token. (I absolutely love this band).
- Last Book: Not going to lie, I haven’t read a novel in ages. If you want last physical book, then it was #DRCL manga. Last story I read was fanfiction.
- Last movie: Monkey Man by Dev Patel. Bit surrealist for a revenge action but beautiful cinematography and it really explores the city life in India very well. I enjoyed it.
- Last Tv Show: Castlevania Nocturne Season 2. It was amazing. The graphics went hard. Big fan of both Castlevania shows.
- Last Thing Googled: A Ramen and Tteokbokki recipe. It was delicious.
- Favourite Colour: Viridian Green.
- Sweet/Savoury/Spicy: Either Sweet or Spicy depending on my mood. If it’s a snack, then I prefer Sweet. If it’s a meal, then I love spice.
- Relationship status: Single and far too busy sorting my life out to try dating. (Also I have far too high standard due to all the media I consume).
- Current Obsession: I have a revolving wheel of obsession in my brain and I have about two or three on the go at any given moment. Right this second I’d say Castlevania, BNHA, and probably Beyond Evil. I don’t know how I juggle them.
- Looking forward to: The Ateez Concert I’m seeing next week. I’m far too excited.
Tagging: anyone who sees this and wants to continue it. I don’t have many mutuals to tag here. 😅
petition to call “fanservice” something else bc i am in fact a fan and that type of thing does me a DISservice
Top ten bl couples- 2022 version.
(This may change as new dramas come out). In no particular order. These are just the ones that I enjoyed the most for various reasons. Posting this just because I have watched so many shows that I have lost count, but yet these are my absolute faves.
1. Adachi and Kurosawa. (Cherry Magic). Such a lovely story about respect and overcoming anxiety. They have such a sweet relationship and their story was really well paced. I want to see more of them.
2. Yoohan and Yeonwoo. (Color Rush). I loved their story and was so upset about season 2. They had such great chemistry and were literal soulmates.
3. Sarawat and Tine. (2gether). This was such a dorky but sweet romance story and season 2 only made it cuter. They had such great chemistry and I loved their interactions.
4. Mark and Ouwen. (Love is science). Even though they were a side couple I loved their story and the found family they created. They also had great chemistry and character development.
5. Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu. (Word of honor). Two messed up and traumatised people band together and accidentally created a family while causing chaos. Loved their dynamics.
6. Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji. (The untamed). I have always loved these two from MDZS. They are such opposites but fit so perfectly.
7. Togawa and Nozue. (Old fashion Cupcake). I loved their banter and their relationship development. Their age gap was perfectly incorporated into the show. I wish the series was longer so we could see more but the few episodes were also amazingly well paced.
8. Arthit and Kongpob. (Sotus). They were one of my first dramas and I have had a soft spot for them ever since. Grumpy cat and smitten puppy is a perfect dynamic and I love it.
9. Jack and Zhao Zi. (History3: Trapped). Sunshine and sunshine protector with such a great storyline. Mercenary and a policeman with a surprising little amount of drama considering their backgrounds. They’re just so sweet and I love them so much.
10. Jang Jaeyoung and Chu Sangwoo. (Semantic Error). They had such great enemies to lovers plot and the height difference was adorable. They had me hooked by the first episode and their interactions are everything.
If you haven’t seen any of these shows then I high key recommend.
The Mega Fandom Update
Honestly, you guys, I didn't like Beyond Evil, but I forced myself through 3 episodes of mehness because my fellow TDJ bishes told me it was good and I trusted you guys.
However, I am extremely glad that I kept going because once we hit episode 4?????? Oh men, I'm ready for this show now. I'm in episode 6 and I trying to slow down. I will really hate it when I get to the end and there's nothing left to watch. I love this show.
Anyhooooos, I said I'd comment on the similarities between all 4 of them as I go so I'm here with a longer list.
Spoilers for the following movie/shows:
The Merciless
Beyond Evil
The Devil Judge
Strangers from Hell
I was drawn to them all because of the queercoding of the characters. I'm not going to lie about that so let's just get that out of the way. All 4 of these stories are badass, bl dramas hiding in plain sight in my opinion.
They all feature a pair of men that have a sizable age-gap between them. We don't know the characters' ages, but if we go by the actors', the closest is a 7-year gap from SfH.
They all centre around crime. (M: crime syndicate, BE: murder investigation, TDJ: criminal prosecution, SfH: serial murder)
They all have a bad ass woman in law enforcement who takes a special interest in the case.
They all have possessive sidekicks who kind of worship the ground the DILF walks on. I would like to point out that that TDJ is the only one where the sidekick is much younger than the DILF (K). Also, I'm not so sure about Jeongju yet, but he hasn't shown any signs of possessiveness yet. Let's see in the future.
*the side kicks in M and SfH died. We don't have confirmation about K being dead yet and I haven't finished BE, so we'll see next time.
They all have a "community" that surrounds the DILf with unerring loyalty. Whether it's a gang of mobsters, the police precinct, the ragtag revolutionists or building tenants.
The younger guy in the pairing has accused the DILF of murder, at least once.
Like, I'm happy about these shows. It's been a while since I was immersed in kdramas and I'm not even surprised that these are the shows and movie that have dragged me back in.
If you have watched one or two of these shows, I advise that you check out the rest. They're all so engaging.
