Something interesting about this season, is that the Young Wolf still feels guilt over what happened to Cayde. The Nightmare of Uldren very directly speaks to the Young Wolf, and taunts them.

Uldren:

And because the YW doesn’t speak, Eris does.

Eris:

But his lies do. The Young Wolf still doesn’t know what happened between Cayde’s stunt, and when they found him broken and dying on the ground. We don’t know how much pain he was in in those final moments, or how painful it is to lose our Ghost. To build on that thought, this conversation between Crow and Eris.

So the Nightmare of Uldren telling the YW that Cayde screamed, reached out for his Ghost and begged? That’s not necessarily a memory, or even true. That’s what the Guardian imagined, what they feared Cayde went through in his final moments. The worst way to die to them. Screaming in pain, begging for your now-dead constant companion for help. 

It’s not what we, the player saw. We saw Cayde go to his final death with a sense of resolve. We saw him take each painful blow, we never saw him scream or beg. It’s all what the Young Wolf fears Cayde went through, because they weren’t fast enough.

A hunter always alone working in the wilds living for that rush. You werent like the other classes you felt out of place odd one from the pack. The other hunters seemed just fine but you were always quiet and discrete. Heading to the vangaurds Cayde had a mission for you.

“Cayde?” Youasked quietly as he spun around.

“Ah y/n yes right oh come with me” you frowned following your teacher. He led you to the ships landing as you both got inside a ship and he flew off.

“Cayde where are we going?” Your ghost asked.

Somewhere" he said playfull making you roll your eyes. You always liked the Exo but always shoved feelings deep inside you knowing it wouldn’t do you any good. You dont know where he was taking you somewhere knew on earth. You both dropped out the ship going to land you frowned seeing a white stag.

“Why did you bring me here?” You asked. You frowned seeing more stags around it, it was the odd one out.

“You know when i see you, your always off to one side never worling with anyone unless you have to, like i know hunters do that i mean look at me, but your different” he sais as you sighed was it really that noticable.

“Im sorry” you said he turned to you shaking his head.

“Dont be” he said.

“I come here sometimes to think ya know i know crazy right even for me, anyway you see the big boy over there white as snow” you nodded.

“That’s what i see when i see you you may be different but your special” he added as you felt a small blush creeping to your face.

“Cayde what are you getting at?” You pushed your ghost away as Cayde chuckled.

“Your not different in anyway y/n honestly your one of the best hunters I’ve seen maybe better then me, but your light shines brighter then the rest and strike me down but hell, im in love with you” you were frozen by his confession staring at his face.

“Hello?” He asked.

“Still with me?” You nodded as he sighed in relief.

“I know crazy right a Vangaurd falling for a guardian i mean just kill me now like seri-” you shut him up embracing him tightly as he froze.

“Well that was unexpected” he said.

“Don’t ruin it” you muttered.

“Right sorry” he hugged you back a smile on your face as you kissed his horn.

“Did you just kiss my horn?” He asked you nodded giggling.

“So im going to take that as you return my feelings” you nodded as his face lit up picking you up and spinning you around making you laugh.

“Ah man best day ever” he said triumphantly you rolled your eyes.

“Sorry I’ll shut up” you smiled shaking your head.

“I love you to Cayde” you said he stared at you with awe.

“Thank you for bringing me here” you said he fumbled nodding.

“Yeah i mean like no problem and yeah” you chuckled again as his ghost talked.

“He’s an idiot” you laughed at his ghost as he face palmed.

“I swear you come in at the worst times” he muttered.

“Cayde look at me” he snapped his head to you seeing your calm soft face.

“I love you Cayde-6 nothing’s going to change that i just hope we can work this out” you said.

“I will make it work i make everything work” you laughed again giving him a hug as hw sighed embracing you. It would work out.

Overwatch Halloween headcanons 

Genji Shimada

⛧ He loved Halloween as a kid so he’s happy to celebrate it

⛧ Does care too much about what you two would do during that day as long as you’re together

⛧  But preferably would either go out with you or watch horror movies whole night

⛧  If asked about his halloween costume his first answer always will be “My halloween costume? Cyborg ninja!”. He thinks this answer is funny, but in fact he always has a costume

⛧ Genji always takes his time and every year wants to surprise everyone with his costume

⛧  He once happened not to have any ideas and asked you for help and ended up with his armored sprayed with paint (his 2021 weekly halloween skin “Skeleton” skin)

⛧ Definitely goes out to buy decorations and sweets

⛧ You two either go out to party with friends or stay together watching horror movies and give candy to children

⛧ Genji will buy the prettiest pumpkins he can find to carve them with you, it’s much easier for him to carve them since he’s very good with sword 

⛧ If two stay at home and you don’t wanna watch a horror movies, he’s got some games to play

Hanzo Shimada

⛧ He never had a chance to celebrate Halloween, especially during his time in the Shimada Clan

⛧ Now that he's no longer a part of the Clan, he can celebrate Halloween all he wants

⛧ Hanzo is not a party person, so he would rather spend his time with you in the house than going out

⛧ He's not that interested in carving pumpkins at first, since he doesn't want to get dirty, but once he started, he won't stop until his satisfied 

⛧ Is Hanzo going to get a costume? Absolutely 

⛧ Definitely will ask for your opinion on what costume he should get

⛧ In the end he’s gonna be a vampire, cuz why shouldn't he be one?

⛧ In the halloween day, he will be proudly wandering around in his costume

⛧ If you don't want to be the one to give candy to children, don't worry he will take care of it

⛧ He just want how creative kids can get with this and he never had a chance to give them candy, so he's kinda excited 

⛧ In the end, you two will probably fall asleep in watching horror movies

Cole Cassidy

⛧ He was celebrating halloween since he can remember, even with the deadlock gang

⛧ Cole’s really excited to spend Halloween with you 

⛧ Especially during this time of year, his favorite nickname for is “pumpkin”

⛧ He's really into matching costumes and he was the one to suggest it

⛧ He’s really into matching costumes, because he doing group costumes back in the deadlock gang and it kinda became for a tradition for him

⛧ Cole either gonna choose hot scary or just weird ones, (for both of you or for himself) depending on his mood

⛧ If you're gonna say you don't want matching costumes, he's gonna pretend he's offended, but in the he's gonna love whatever you will pick for yourself, if you're really not into his idea

⛧ If he’s costume idea requires makeup, he’s gonna come to you no matter if you’re better or worse than him at doing makeup, he’s really bad at it and trust you with it more than himself

⛧ His favorite part about going out to halloween parties, is seeing other peoples costumes, he just loves seeing people’s creativity

Gabriel Reyes

⛧ Gabriel may seem a bit grumpy, but he does like halloween

⛧ When was young, he really enjoyed treat or tricking, but now he’s into that too much

⛧ He would rather stay at home than going out

⛧ Gabriel won’t admit it, but he does want to get a costume to wear around the house

⛧ He’s gonna act like a mom if you mention buying new costume or decoration “We already have decoration.” “You have a costume from last year, you don’t need a new one.”

⛧ But he’s not gonna say anything if you buy anything new, in fact, he will be curious about the new stuff

⛧ He’s going to order one without you know as a surprise, since he made you thought that “He’s too old for costumes”

⛧ He loves seeing the mix of surprise and confusion on your face when he shows you his costume

⛧ Reyes gonna joke about scaring kids so he’s doesn’t have to give them candy, but you know he’s not gonna do that

⛧  Watching horror movies isn’t scary for him, but if you’re scared easily during these movies, he will tease you and maybe scare you 

⛧  He will probably fall asleep before the movies ends

Lucio Carriera dos Santos

⛧ He’s been thinking what he should wear the whole year and when halloween is near, he has no idea what costume to choose

⛧  Expect him to ask you for help with choosing costume, which gonna take some times since he really wants to wear all of them

⛧  Lucio besides buying some decoration, will make try to find some diy videos to make some decorations himself for fun

⛧  Instead of carving, he enjoys painting the pumpkins

⛧ He’s definitely gonna take you out to party to a club or to your friends party, he’s either gonna go just with you or group of mutual friends

⛧ In the club, beside dancing, he’s gonna get both of you halloween drinks

⛧  During house party, there’s gonna be a lot things happening

⛧ Watching movies, playing games, making halloween food, making carving pumpkin contest, etc.

⛧ During horror movies he will try to hide behind you, Lucio gets scared really easily so he’s gonna hold on you for his life

I felt like writing something for Genji. I went with Blackwatch Genji for this one. It’s not much but eh, I like this idea. -Knight

Genji Shimada

He scared you when you first met. All fury, pain, and intense sadness. Genji was a complicated man with a past so horrific you cried the first time you heard about it.

Genji always kept to himself but you were drawn to him. You couldn’t understand why you always seemed to gravitate to him, you just always found yourself seeking his company. Genji wasn’t exactly friendly though, he wouldn’t even glance your way but you sat there and spoke to him anyways day after day. You would talk about stupid things like how Tracer had gotten stuck in a tree during your last mission or how you wanted to steal McCree’s hat just to see if he was hiding a bald spot, just casual one sided conversations. Genji would never interrupt you or tell you to stop, he would sit there unfazed, like you didn’t exist, but you knew he was listening.

You were late seeing Genji today, detained by the medical staff, but you plopped down on the bench next to him as usual. You had just launched yourself into a story about Reinhardt when Genji interrupted you.

“Why are you injured?” Genji’s voice surprised you. You hadn’t expected him to speak so it took you a moment to get the answer out of your mouth.

“Huh? Oh! I got captured during my last mission. I made a stupid mistake and ended up being taken hostage and interrogated. It’s not nearly as bad as it looks.” Both arms were wrapped in bandages, bandaids covering all the gashes on your face and hands, and a black eye to top it off, you looked a mess but it truly wasn’t as bad as it seemed. “Soon as Angela is back, I won’t look like a half-wrapped mummy.” You said looking Genji in the face. You were suddenly taken aback. Genji looked absolutely furious.

“You should quit Overwatch.” Genji hissed out before standing up and marching off soundlessly leaving you to absorb his words and the anger he’d directed at you.

Sitting alone in your usual spot, you pressed your injured hands to your face and cried.

You didn’t know what to do now. You’d pissed off Genji and felt the best course of action was to just leave him alone. You quit looking for him when you went to report to Commander Reyes, you didn’t visit the spot Genji always rested at, and you didn’t dare look his direction during work. It hurt, to you, he was a friend and the brightest part of your day. Adjusting was hard.

Angela arrived back on base a few days later and got you healed up. You felt a ton better physically but emotionally you felt awful and Angela could tell. You told her about your interaction with Genji when she asked.

“It sounds like he’s just worried about you.” Angela said wisely.

“If you could’ve seen the anger in his eyes, I don’t think you’d say that.” You sighed. “He was probably extremely angry because I was captured, I could have given critical information to our enemies and he more than likely sees that as a huge issue.”

“I suppose. Either way, try not to let it bother you too much. And get some rest, no offense, but you look pretty terrible.” Angela said noticing how exhausted you looked.

“Sure thing, doc.” You said with a smile.

Taking Angela’s advice you headed off to your quarters. The only issue was you had to pass Genji’s usual hang out. This area was always deserted during the day which is why he always hung out there. Your only hope was to pray he wasn’t there just this once.

Turning the corner your fears were realized as Genji sat on the same bench as always staring out the window. You knew he was aware you were there. He didn’t have to look at you to know.

Gathering yourself up you pushed on down the hall, acting as if Genji himself didn’t exist. You were half a step past him when his hand shot out and stopped you. You slowly turned to look at him. He didn’t seem angry or if he was he was hiding it well.

“D-did you need something?” You asked, tripping over your words slightly.

“You look better.” His words were clipped but polite, his hand letting go of your arm.

“Ah, thanks. Angela really is a miracle worker.” You replied. Genji’s eyes slid from you back out the window. You took this as an end to your conversation and turned to leave.

“Tell me something stupid.” Genji’s voice was soft, the softest you’d ever heard it and for some reason it made your heart squeeze slightly. With a small smile, you sat lightly on the bench beside Genji and launched into another dumb story.
