it really sucks that pride month means that all the aphobes come out of the woodwork, but at least it means I know who to block

gotta be really clear on this: aces are valid, aros are valid, aroaces are valid, aspec people are valid, asexuality is NOT heterosexuality, aromanticism is NOT heteroromanticism, and anyone on the ace/aro spectrum is welcome in the LGBT community

im not going to be on tumblr tomorrow (still might check dms), for my own safety and wellbeing. but before i log off, i want to say a couple things

9/11 was a tragedy. everyone knows and sees that. just because i am muslim does not mean that i am going to justify 9/11. whatever bin laden’s motivation was, he did a disgusting thing and killed thousands of innocent people

just because 9/11 was an attack by someone who calls themselves muslims doesnt make all muslims terrorists. i cannot believe this is a sentence i have to type, but here i am. muslims - true muslims - do not condone violence. against anyone. i can go into all the details and the what-ifs and everything, but i dont have the energy for that. just know that violence is strictly frowned upon (note: this does not include self-defense. if somebody is attacking you and you are unable to get away, then fight back. again, there’s no debate on that).

check up on any muslims you know. your friends, neighbours, coworkers, acquaintances, even people you don’t like all that much. we are incredibly stressed out, especially if we live in a western country. just a quick text to see if they’re okay tomorrow will mean a lot

do not think that because you don’t live in america, you’re exempt from this. any western country has this problem, even if you live in a relatively okay area. i do. my friend (who lives in the same area as me) went to walmart and had a hijab on. she was nearly run over (intentionally, the guy was glaring at her and her mother the entire time) while trying to get to the store. she only realized when she got home that it was 9/11. i live in a safe area of canada. this should not be happening. but it is.

if you are in any way, shape, or form, islamophobic, get the hell off my blog

The appalling travesty that was BBC’s Sherlock has infested the Sherlock Holmes fandom like a malignant tumour so I want you all to know how awesome the OG literary Holmes was:

The literary Sherlock Holmes was an autistic coded character before people knew what autism was.

The literary Sherlock Holmes was an explicitly aromantic character before people had a word for that.

Literary Holmes solved mysteries not merely for the intellectual stimulation but also out of a genuine desire to do good. He cared deeply about every client. HE WAS NOT A HIGH-FUNCTIONING SOCIOPATH! He could definitely be insensitive and blunt but he was not callous or unfeeling.

Literary Sherlock threatened to beat a guy who was being creepy with his own stepdaughter.

Literary Sherlock learned to grow past his misogyny after a woman outsmarted him.

In particular, he was always respectful to Mrs Hudson, never belittling or talking down to her (the otherwise enjoyable Guy Ritchie films screw this up too). In fact, they got along so well that they were actually a very popular ship back in the day.

Literary Holmes would NEVER call Watson an idiot. He was his only friend who he loved and respected, even if he did get frustrated with him sometimes. He didn’t need to belittle others to feel powerful.

Literary Holmes and Watson broke into a corrupt man’s house and witnessed him being murdered by a woman he was blackmailing. They knew exactly who she was but they let her get away because they were chaotic good like that.

Literary Holmes had HUMILITY: something a smug prig like Steven Moffat will never understand. He could be arrogant but he had a sense of humour and was willing to admit when he was wrong. And he was wrong sometimes because he was a flawed human being, not some gross male power fantasy.

Literary Holmes respected the working class and was often disdainful of the rich. In Victorian England!

Literary Holmes indirectly caused the death of a guy who abused (and implicitly molested) his daughters and he didn’t give a single fuck about it.

At the end of the series, Holmes retires to Sussex to keep bees. Beekeepers are awesome.

Seriously though to help fight this corona bugaboo I’m gonna be donating a shitload of money to my local food bank.  All the overtime money I’m making by helping screen patients on my days off I’m giving away. If I get a $1000 government relief check I’m giving it away. Half of the money I usually stash in retirement savings I’m gonna give away instead. Since I’m single, live in a small cheap apartment, and have nothing to spend my money on that should be a lot.

I’m really fortunate right now to be working in a job where I’m badly needed and making a good paycheck and have emergency money left over.  I know what it is like living paycheck to paycheck and can’t imagine living like that through a crises like this. I encourage all others in a similar situation to do the same. Please think of those less fortunate than you.
