Tin sounds like such an awesome character!!! Which are your favorite facts abt her? Also, in your current wip, which character is your favorite? Least favorite? Why? Ya know what? Just tell me what are your favorite parts of your whole WIP! I really want to hear abt it!! (Sorry abt such long ask, is just that your project really sparked my curiosity XD)
Don't apologize! I am literally smilinglike crazy over here behind my screen. This is the first time I'veshared anything about my project with the outher world and you haveno idea how happy these compliments and questions and the generalinterest are making me! Thanks so much!
Oh, I love Tin! I'mso glad you think she's cool. Here's some facts about her: *She's an activist at heart. At the start of the story, she joins astrike and then gets into a duel because someone talked shit abouther friend. She won't let you do that. She has no chill, but shereally does want the world to be a better place. * She named hergun after the only one of her brothers that did not ignore her. *She wears men's clothes for practical reasons. * If she getsoverwehlmed by any emotion but anger, tears well easily and she hatesthat.* She was part of a gang of yought criminals for a while. They were all boys and refused to let her in at first, but she foughtone with such feriousity that she scared the hell out of them. Theywere her gang after that.
Choosing a favorite is terrible!I've got so many characters in this story and I love all of them. Ithink Tungsten is one of my favorites because he's just such a wellmeaning sweetheart, but he never seems to catch a break. I enjoywriting Mercury, simply because he's a loud and intense soul whotalks in dramatic monologue. And I suppose I like Fer a lot. He'sthe one that started the group. He seems very tough and cool, but hedoesn't really like himself at all. All his self-worth comes fromholding together his band of outcasts, who he consideres his adoptedkids (he'd only admit this under extreem stress).
A leastfavorite is even harder! I have a bunch of characters that I'dprobably hate in real life, but I enjoy writing them. My leastfavorites right now are Espen and Nicholas, two of the rivals of theElements, but that's simply because I haven't yet put that mucheffort into to them. My favorite part of my whole project isthe characters, really. I'm not that good at plot, though I amtrying, but I really enjoy having these eleven characters interact, bond and fight and bicker. I also love creating the world aroundthem. I like playing with history and casually incorporating realpeople or events. I also worked hard on making the magic in thisworld very tangible (it's translated, so it sounds a little rusty):
'Magic swirled thick as fog abovethe Thames. Though Tungsten could not see it, only able to feelthe current the way you just smell scents and hear noice, he imaginedit as an endless amount of golden dust, dancing without any relationto the wind.'
and 'The magic lay beneath hisfingers, a piano, ready to be played.' I’m sorry, this got a little out of hand. If you are interested, please come and talk to me about it more, or tell me about your own projects! (I’m still up for making aesthetic moodboards for OC’s).
Thanks to @ladyliliana for tagging me! (And sorry for not getting back to you, I want to and I will! I am just a mess).
Writing tag game
1. If you could go to one of your OC’s bachelor/bachelorette party, which would you choose? (also: who would have the wildest one?)
I would probably want to go to Soufre’s. She’s happy and fun and would make sure everyone had a great time without getting too crazy. The wildest one would definitely be Copper, simply because he does not know the word ‘moderation’, nor can he handle his drink half as well as he thinks he does.
2. What’s your favourite time of day to write?
I usually write whenever, in between other tasks. But if I have time, I prefer early afternoon, when I am well-rested and have a long day in front of me.
3. What’s your favourite relationship in your WIP? (platonic or romantic)
In Elementary, I’d say either Soufre and Zinc or Bismuth and Fer. Soufre and Zinc are the most lovely and healthy couple I’ve ever written and I make it a point to have them stay that way the entire course of the story (their relationship is not the main focus anyway, they just love and support each other in the background). Bismuth and Fer are best friends and the ultimate raincloud-and-sunshine relationship. The will sit by the fire endless hours in the evenings and just talk. All the other Elements have grown used to falling asleep with their voices in the background.
In Waterwegen, I love Paco and Mikel, who are two rowdy eleven year old boys that will literally follow each other to the end of the world (and steal each other’s ice-cream cones). I also love Josepe and Alba, father and daughter, because there is a lot wrong and complicated between them, but they try their best and they are fascinating to write.
4. How far are you into your WIP?
About 1/4 for Elementary, and at the start of Waterwegen. I am trying!
5. If you were stuck in a broken elevator for twelve hours, which OC would you choose to be stuck in there with you? (note: you have to be in there for the twelve hours. no Houdini escape)
Mercury! Clever, funny, passionate, into philosophy and art and with no qualms to talk hours on end.
6. What’s your favourite colour?
All shades of blue.
7. Where would one of your OCs propose to the other? (if this question isn’t up your alley, replace “propose to” with “surprise attack hug”)
Since I’ve already talked about their relationship: if Zinc was to propose to Soufre, he would do it in a clearing in the woods that he knows. He has collected wildflowers there before, to give it to her.
Also, Soufre might surprise him and propose instead! She would do it on a normal evening, by the fire, surrounded by all of their friends. She’d love to see his surprise turn into excitement, and she would want to make him blush.
(Zinc will definitely cry in either scenario).
8. Which OC is most like you?
Probably my main character, Tungsten, because he is always conflicted between his fear of new people and the big world, and his longing to explore. He is scared of opening up but he craves his own found family. He is timid, but he still wants to be on stage. He is always fighting himself.
9. Do you prefer writing with ambient noise, music (if so, with or without lyrics), or in silence?
Depends on my mood. I usually write with either soundtracks in the background (preferably fantasy ones), classical music or one song on repeat. Because I tend to read my work out loud, I also often work in silence.
10. If you suddenly got the power of teleportation, where in the world would you go first?
I’d love to explore Sumatra and Java, or visit my friend in New Zealand!
Is it cool to send in like MBTI / Zodiac stuff for oc aesthetics?
I must admit that I know absolutely nothing about either. Though internet goes a long way, I would probably need some more info to make anything that fits your OC. That said, of course you can send this with the rest of the info, and I’ll see what I can make of it!
My whole WIP is about this! Set during the idustrial revolution, magic has become a tool, something to be used or maybe even ignored, forgotten and discarded. But then the Romantics rise and magic gets an impulse. It is intertwined with art: art as a spiritual power, something connected to feeling and expression and just a little out of reach, always at the edge of incomprehensible. My OC thinks about it like this: ‘Once, when religion had still been tangible and water could change in wine in front of your eyes, magic had been spiritual, an amazing, supernatural power. Later, miracles became stories. Churches rose, priests preached their psalms and every spire pulled mankind further from her faith. Magic was sacrilege, then utensil. Now philosophers and scientists held truth in their fingers, and magic, God and the occult should all be sweeped into a dark corner. Tungsten did not believe in God – at least, he didn't think he did. But magic was different. It was human and more than human, like love, or art‘.
I have always felt art is the closest we can get to magic!
I have a lot of feelings about how witchcraft and art are similar and intertwined, but I can’t exactly articulate them
Hey, this is probably a bit late, but I saw you commented on an ask that I sent in. (To a different blog) So... about writing cis/straight characters? I really don't know. I'm not lying... I've never made a good straight/cis character they all suck, cliche stupid and aaa (NOT CALLING CIS/STRAIGHT PEOPLE ANY OF THOSE) Help?
Hey, friend. Don’t worry - writing means getting into characters that are different from you and for accurate portrayel, asking is the best course! I think a good way to write a straight/cis character, is to consider what you like about your queer characters. Surely, there is a lot more to them than their sexuality or gender. They have backgrounds, goals, dreams and fears, family and hobbies and favorite music. Their sexuality/gender might be a part of them, but it’s definitly not all of them. If you want to make up a straight/cis character, do not focus on straight/cis. Just make a character. Did they grow up in a farm? Where they popular in high school? What was their dreamjob when they were six? Do they like vintage clothing? Do they understand social media and have they ever bought merchandise? Do they have any big regrets? What happened to them, that you are writting this story in the first place? Did they get in prison? Or out of it? There are so many things that make a character interesting or relatable, and sexuality and gender are only a small part of that. I have some more ideas about this, but I am not sure how to word them at the moment. If you are interested or have any questions, feel free to message me (I suppose I am not straight, by the way, but I am cis).
‘Cause sometimes the stories of how OCs come to be are just as interesting as the OCs, themselves. Tell me how your virtual kids came into the world.
What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.)?
Did you design them with any other characters/OCs from their universe in mind?
How did you choose their name?
In developing their backstory, what elements of the world they live in played the most influential parts?
Is there any significance behind their hair color?
Is there any significance behind their eye color?
Is there any significance behind their height?
What (if anything) do you relate to within their character/story?
Are they based off of you, in some way?
If they have an LI, how much of their character is tailored to be compatible to that person?
Did you know what the OC’s sexuality would be at the time of their creation?
What have you found to be most difficult about creating art for your OC (any form of art: writing, drawing, edits, etc.)?
How far past the canon events that take place in their world have you extended their story, if at all?
If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be?
What is something about your OC can make you laugh?
What is something about your OC can make you cry?
Is there some element you regret adding to your OC or their story?
What is the most recent thing you’ve discovered about your OC?
What is your favorite fact about your OC?

Aw, thanks for the ask!! Three random facts: - I love exploring new media! I have periods where I get really into theatre or concept albums or whatever and try to discover exactly how they work, how they are made, what their tricks are. - I’m an animal person. With fur or without, if it is willing to be held, I am holding it. - I’m playing around with gender in my appearance more and more and I’m loving it!
My battery is low...
Today, a collection of cameras and steel was pronounced dead. She sang to celebrate herself, survived a marathon of miles, shared and showed her redburned hollow home. We gave her iron claws to drag along a planet's spine and when, one morning, the sensors would not wake, we shouted out a thousandfold: 'Are you okay?'
To no response.
She had a name. Between hurricanes and stars, we tend to love what kills or dies, ripping up our teddybears in Sunday morning rooms till stuffing snows and tickles throats, brings water to our eyes.
Stuck on an arbitrary globe, we compose 'Space Oddity'. Dream of escape, at least embrace the ache of rust she cannot feel. There is both humor and humanity in loss.
She might be us. Cross-winded, heading straight into the dust. We weave the trails into a 'why', frantic scramble metaphors, and with our scraped up hands, mold her dying code into a poem.
...and it's getting dark

This blog will combine three things I love dearly: writing, talking about writing, and aesthetics. So if you have an amazing OC for which you crave an aesthetic moodboard or Instagram page - tell me all about them, and I will make you one! After all, every writer needs fanart.
