One Thing I Want From Season 3 Is An Acknowledgement Of What Losing The Razor Crest Means For Din. That

one thing i want from season 3 is an acknowledgement of what losing the razor crest means for din. that ship is literally his only safe space. it’s the one constant in his unpredictable life, and the one place where he isn’t perpetually under attack. the difference in his body language between when he’s planetside and when he’s flying is huge - it’s the most relaxed we ever see him. in addition, without the razor crest din will be forced to be dependent on other people. he seems to be living paycheck-to-paycheck and i don’t think he can afford a new ship. he has much, much less control over his own life without one, and it’s not like he ever had much control to start out with. i cannot emphasize this enough: losing the razor crest is absolutely devastating for din. i don’t want it to be too overshadowed by grogu.

questions about the children of the watch:

why do they never speak in mando’a?

why are they the only type of mandalorian that the average person has heard of?

how are they connected to death watch?

if they’re a split-off group from death watch, how did they transform from a terrorist group into a religion?

and how did it go from a race to a creed?

why doesn’t din recognize bo-katan’s name or know what the darksaber is?

do the other members of din’s tribe know as little about mandalorian history as he does? if not, are they intentionally concealing information from him? and if so, is that unique to him or something that happens to all foundlings?

is “the watch” death watch, or is it something else?

how many coverts are there?

what are the specific tenets of the way?

when were the children of the watch founded?

are there children of the watch who actually call themselves that, or is it a term only used by non-believers?

food for thought.

[ID: Venn Diagram With One Circle Titled “Tried To Kill Din At Least Once” And The Other Titled “Will

[ID: Venn Diagram with one circle titled “Tried to kill Din at least once” and the other titled “Will babysit his child”. Under “Tried to kill him at least once” are pictures of Moff Gideon and Xi’an, while Frog Lady, Omera, and Peli are under “Will babysit his child”. The “both” category has the most people, with Mayfeld, Fennec, Boba Fett, Greef Karga, Cara, and Ahsoka. End ID.]

100% agree and will throw in my two cents that it's gotta be maul that turns him somehow. the closest obi-wan ever gets to the dark side in canon imo is the fight vs. maul in tpm. like, that's straight-up revenge on his face, and there's a definite parallel between obi-wan cutting maul in half and obi-wan later being cut in half by vader in anh. it's not a very jedi way to kill someone. ofc in tcw there's an excellent arc where obi-wan faces maul again and chooses the light, but like you said, if there's no universe where he would ever make a different choice, that isn't really a choice at all.

i get the sense that the dark side is a one-and-done kind of thing, you give in once and you're evil forever (unless you have an extremely persistent son), so really obi-wan just has to use a dark side technique to kill maul and that's it, he's a dark sider. there would have to be some palpatine (or dooku?) influence leading up to it, since there's a difference between dark side and sith.

his character would diverge too far from canon at that point for me to be interested in the fic, though. it's hard to imagine what he would do as a sith after killing maul. i could maaaybe picture a dark obi-wan that strongly focuses on the religion half of sith religion, but idk. that's all i've got - not very satisfying or fanfic-able, unfortunately.

Sith! Obi-Wan: Is it even possible?

Sith! Obi-Wan is such a fascinating concept to me, because it’s so unlikely. Like frankly it feels even less likely than Anakin’s redemption, and that redemption being so incredibly unlikely but still possible is literally the thing that makes the OT so powerful. Like it’s baked into the premise.

And Obi-Wan falling can’t be impossible, because that would take all the narrative power out of him always choosing good. But like, this man has literally had everything happen to him, and he doesn’t turn. He has moments where he has to recenter himself, but he always does it. He’s such a wonderful balance of “constantly looks like hot shit” with “but on the deepest level of his soul he’s untouchable.”

It should be impossible.

But I believe it at every turn.

People aren’t fucking around when they describe him as one of the best Jedi there ever was.

So I am fascinated by the idea of a Sith Obi-Wan, because what could possibly turn him?

Not torture, not loss, not grief, not losing his padawan, not having to fight his padawan, not beliving he’d killed his padawan, not finding out he didn’t kill his padawan, not watching over that padawan’s kid for twenty years, not death, not war, not walking away from Satine, not Satine dying in his arms, not losing Qui-Gon Jinn, not Dooku’s best efforts at temptation, not the genocide of his people, not being set on fire, not the existence of the Death Star, not twenty years of being a hermit, not Melida-Daan, not whatever Xanatos was doing, not every atrocity the Empire ever committed,

But it can’t be impossible, because he’s still a human, he’s not the Force itself.

I’ve read some Sith Obi-Wan fics, but they’re all either unconvincing on this point, or have to resort to saying, “Obi-Wan is a Sith but he’s not evil,” as though that isn’t the contradiction of all time (No shade to these fics, not everything needs to be perfectly convincing, and I’m not against writing a character in a certain way just cause of the aesthetic. I know how to use the back button; I kept reading cause I enjoyed them overall).

I just.

I don’t know. Do people have ideas? Theories? Fic recommendations?

Cause my only idea is an Obi-Wan who has literally never heard of the Jedi and was raised from an infant as a Sith and barely resembles the Obi-Wan we know at all.

i would love to see a din/omera qpr. just imagine:

omera's allo, but she was never that into romance and sex. she thought she'd stay single forever until she fell in love with her husband, and after he died she didn't feel the need to remarry.

din's an oriented aroace who never thought he'd find someone who was interested in the sort of relationship he wanted. he's alone, and he's fine with that.

and then they meet each other.

din leaves sorgan after the bounty hunter tracks down grogu, and they think that's it. but after grogu's completed a year of training, din returns. for good, this time. they become - something. two people who relate to each other more than they ever have to anyone else. life partners who raise their kids together, grow old together, know each other so well they can have an entire conversation without speaking - and never kiss or have sex. they hold hands and hug and it makes them happier than anything.

neither of them feel incomplete when they're single. there's none of that "i'd die without you!" they'd move on.

they don't need each other, but they want each other. they're happy alone, but they decide to be happy together.

i am firmly convinced that din djarin is aro-spec and asexual.

(quick disclaimer: i speak for myself. not all aros and aces share my experiences with aromanticism and asexuality.)

one thing that’s always struck me about din is how much he values platonic relationships. cara and kuill aren’t any less important to him than omera. that’s not necessarily an a-spec thing, but it’s rare for straight characters on tv. it’s even rarer for the focus of the show to be a platonic, father-son relationship rather than a romantic one. aro-coding? definitely.

5, 12, and 13 for the mandalorian?

thank you for the ask, lovely anon! here you go:

5) Name one character you headcanon as aroace

din. i could see him as a lot of different aro-spec identities, but i've been headcanoning him as aroace since like ten minutes into episode 1. somehow he embodies both the "no emotions" and "extra room for platonic love" stereotypes at the same time. his entire existence is a big aroace mood.

honestly though, the entire cast of characters is free aro headcanon real estate. none of them express any interest in romance except for the frogs.

12) Which relationship dynamics do you prefer to see? Romantic, platonic, sexual, familial, queerplatonic?

i love platonic (and adoptive) familial relationships. platonic din & literally anyone always warms my genficcer heart. and of course there's the parent-child dynamic between din & grogu, or din & the mandalorian who rescued him as a child. i sometimes read romantic din/omera, but i'd prefer queerplatonic if those fics existed. sexual... no. never. in any fandom.

13) Name two or more characters you think are in a queerplatonic relationship

oh, din & omera for sure. i think omera is straight and attracted to din, but aware on some level that he's not into anyone and is okay that a relationship with him will be a little different. i doubt they label it (or even have the terminology to do so) but to me fics where they're strictly platonic or romantic just feel... off.
