I have headcannon that wukong had the softest spot for ao lie and he was his first friend from the pilgrims because wukong loves horses

and he's the first person he ever truly trusted always listening to what he says not wanting to lose another best friend (macaque) and while wukong was macaque sun ao lie was the light to wukong pushing the darkness away from him
