he smelled of money and expensive cologne, always dressed in black with details of white. everybody knew about him, but he was as rare as a solar eclipse — not everyone had the honour of seeing him in the flesh. his mother owned one of the biggest companies in the country and his father was a well-known lawyer. the park family had definitely put their mark in history, however, there was one little problem with sunghoon — he was known for being a playboy. playing with the hearts of women and crushing them the second he pleased. and what could they do but blame themselves? he was park sunghoon, the most perfect boy in the country.

but he wasn’t perfect. he had a little secret. one of the few reasons he went to school was to see you… the poor, fragile, good girl who got straight a’s ever since grades were introduced. you weren’t in the same class, but he saw you for the first time as you were passing the halls, hurrying to class with books in your embrace. he thought you looked too pure for his own good, but something sparked an urge within him. he had to have you.

The thing was, you never did anything to the boy to warrant this type of special treatment from him. Nonetheless, it didn’t stop him from throwing a paper ball whenever the Teacher turned to write on the board. It seemed that your lesson today lies elsewhere. Patience: how to suffer in silence and not give in to the daily thoughts of poking the boy's eyes out and risking a bright future in jail to multiply ten-folds.

But you weren’t going to give in today, you really weren’t in the mood for it with finals coming up. A deep breath in then out caught your best friend's attention.

Sunoo spared you a glance, he knew who threw the paper- heavens the whole class did, and it was obvious how it never failed to rub the wrong side of you. It further irked you that your heart would beat for reasons other than dismay at the boy.

If there was anything you’ve learned from countless days spent avoiding the nuisance’s daily attacks, it was just that- he was relentless.

You knew flicking the paper would add fuel to the fire, but you were never a person to shy away. Surely jake wouldn’t dare do anything more while the teacher was talking right?

Wrong. He proceeded to play basketball on your head. After the third ball- you gave in, you whisked your hand back around enough to grab hold of a couple strands and gave it a nice tug. Earning a groan that sounded a lot like victory to you.

your triumph was cut short when the nuisance retaliated with his own fist- and he wasn't gentle about it either, grabbing a fistful, pulling your neck at an angle you don't think even science could prove possible. A surprised gasp resonated a bit too loudly for class, mumming your teacher to silence.

" Never knew you were an expeditionist" Jake never missed the chance to whisper anything in your ear, but thankfully you were saved by the Teacher.

“Sim Jaeyun, L/N Y/N I do not tolerate such recklessness in my class.” or so you thought, "I think a couple of hours in the detention after class will do well to teach you a lesson."

“But Professor I didn’t even do anything! He-”

" Want it to be two days? "

You could hear the boy chuckle behind you.

"No professor."

"Then I will see the both of you at my office in the evening."

You favored to let out an annoyed sigh after the professor had returned to his post and rolled your eyes back enough hoping it would reach the boy seated behind you and throw daggers at him.

Fate works in mysterious ways. The same fate that brought you a neighbor that had a kid your age who you now were best friends with and could not live a day in school without was the same fate that separated you from him as sunoo now sat with his new Assignment groupmate- on the other side of the classroom. Leaving you stuck with- sigh, you guessed it. Sim Jake.

You were assigned to read a passage and analyze whatever it was supposed to mean, but you could hardly read with the way his eyes were boring into you. You'd just barely survived detention with him yesterday, with his constant pestering, calling your name every second he could. Which begged the question: If one were to ask you why you crushed on the boy sitting next to you, insisting on getting on every nerve in your body, you wouldn't have an answer. Perhaps it was the way the corner of his lips curved whenever he'd talk, perhaps it was the way you liked how you felt around him, or perhaps it was the way your name fell from his lips as you purposely ignore him.

“Y/N”

Silence.

“Y/N” he singsonged.

Your eyebrows twitched.

"Y/N?"

Fingers choked the Page under your palm. You'd half-thought of throwing the Book you'd just abused at his face, may give the boy something to look at other than you.

"Y/N"

If you grit your teeth any longer, you'd have none left. Instead, you sighed through them, "WHAT!".

You knew it was a mistake the moment you saw a lips tug in sheer smug.

"What are you doing ?" He quipped annoyingly.

"I'd like to wipe that smirk off your face."

"Are you implying you want to kiss?"

"In your dreams, puppy dog" or in mine, your brain supplied.

You could feel your face starting to heat up, was there something on it or was Jake just really that insistent on staring at anything other than his assignment.

"You're staring. How do I make it stop" your voice controlled, your fingers though betrayed you and gripped the desk tighter, letting out some steam.

"You should look the person in the eye when speaking to them, common curtsy Y/N," he playfully tsked.

"And you shouldn't bother someone when they're blatantly ignoring you, common sense Jake." you flipped the Page, giving up on reading the passage, still fighting the urge of sparing him a glance.

"Ouch, you wound my heart" he faked a hand over his chest.

"Wasn't aware you had a beating one."

"For you? It beats like crazy." He was teasing. You knew he was. But It didn't stop your ears from flushing red.

"And I'm going to make it skip a beat forever if you don't start reading your part."

"Exhilarating," he breathed.

"Repulsive"

"Y/N"

"Jake," you finally looked at him and knew it was a mistake. He wouldn't blink. And neither would you. You weren't losing this.

It was a game. It always was to him. It was known he's a player, and another thing he was known for? Cheating. You should've seen it coming. His leg pulled your chair closer, pulling you between his legs. You admit, it was a smart move, almost made you blink, keyword being almost.

Your lips tugged. It was your turn, Fingers coming up to play with a stray piece of his brown locks, inching in closer, nose almost touching. His eyes widened, not expecting the proximity but not hating it by the way his pupils dilated.

"Cheater," you breathed.

"Prissy" he whispered back.

"Jake," It rolled off your tongue as an insult.

"Y/N," He mimicked, finally blinking only to stare down at your lips.

The teacher sounded exasperated. "Jake, Y/N Do I have to say it again?"

"Yeah, yeah, Professor, Detention, we get it." It was the first time you saw him irritated. And you could feel your addiction for it simmering. oh how sweet it felt.

If another day in detention was the price for it, then so be it. It was worth it.
