Hello, for the prompt thing, could you do “It’s three in the morning” for Sizzy? Thank you
“Simon!”
Simon hugged his pillow tighter.
“Simon!”
The pillow was sinfully warm. He buried his face in it and sighed contentedly.
“SIMON LEWIS LOVELACE!”
Most shadowhunters would have been startled if someone had woken them up in the middle of the night by yelling their name.
Not Simon.
For starters, he had seen too much to be fazed by a late night scare.
And the voice that yelled it him was the voice he his heart fell asleep to every night.
So, there was no need to be afraid.
“What is it?” Simon asked, rubbing his eyes.
“I need to ask you something.”
He couldn’t see her. Just her voice.
Simon picked up his phone.
“Jesus!” Simon swore and realized how much he missed saying it once. “It’s three in the morning!”
“I need to ask you something important,” Isabelle amended.
Simon used all his shadowhunter strength to turn around and face Izzy. “About what?”
“Why didn’t Leia become a Jedi?”
Simon blinked. “What?”
“Luke is a Jedi. The best Jedi. But Leia isn’t. We know that she is force sensitive though. She can telepathically communicate with him, right? And she is also his twin. So, why didn’t she become a Jedi?”
Simon blinked again.
He was very confused - but also very turned on.
“Izzy,” he said. “It’s three in the morning.”
“Do you think you can call Eric and ask?” She picked up his phone and gave it to him.
He put the phone away and turned on the bedside lamp. Isabelle was already sitting up in bed. Simon couldn't wrap his head around how any human could look so beautiful and majestic at three in the morning. But it was his Isabelle. she always exceeded expectations.
“Leia didn’t become a Jedi because she didn’t want to,” Simon replied. “I mean, that’s what I think. We don’t really know.”
“But why didn’t she?” Isabelle frowned, her dark eyebrows knitting together in confusion. “She would have been great! Even better than Luke!!”
Simon sat up and faced her in bed.
“Isabelle, you know how much I love it when you go all nerdy on me,” Simon smiled and tucked a loose piece of wild hair strand behind her ear. “But you want to tell me what this is really about?”
“It’s about princess Leia and the sexist Jedi agenda, goddamnit!” Isabelle punched his pillow.
“Sure,” Simon said because he knew her better than she let on. “But do you want to tell me what led to this fascinating train of thought?”
Izzy was quiet. It usually meant that she was deciding whether to tell the truth or not. Simon hoped it was the former.
“I might be having a tiny identity crisis,” Isabelle sighed.
“It’s three in the morning.”
“I’m sorry, I wasn’t aware there was a scheduled time to have an identity crisis!” Isabelle rolled her eyes.
“It’s okay,” Simon kissed her temple. “But for future reference, it’s dawn. The aesthetic kinda vibes with the whole mood.”
“I didn’t understand a word you said,” her rolled her eyes again.
Simon wondered if god had given the Lightwoods an extra pair of eyes to switch between all the eye-rolling. Surely, they must be tired.
“Izzy,” he whispered. “Isabelle.”
She was quiet.
“ISABELLE SOPHIA LIGHTWOOD!”
She was still quiet.
Something was wrong.
Simon had questions. He was worried. But he decided to stay quiet too. Isabelle always spoke up when she was given space. So, he decided to do just that.
“What about later?” She asked after a while had passed.
“Later?”
“When we are married?” She said quietly.
Simon thanked the dim lighting because he couldn’t help but blush. But the hawk with the raven eyes must have noticed since he saw the smallest of smiles on her lips.
“Who would I be then?” She asked. “Isabelle Lovelace? Lovelace-Lightwood?”
“You can be whoever you want,” Simon smiled.
“I want to hyphenate,” she spoke quietly. “I want you next to me in anyway I can, Simon.”
He couldn’t help but pull her close and kiss her then. The aesthetic and the mood demanded that kind of vibe.
“But..” She said when she pulled back. “There won’t be any Lightwoods after that.”
Simon must have seemed lost because she looked at him and sighed tiredly.
“Alec’s children are Lightwood-Banes and ours would be Lovelace-Lightwoods or whatever. But there won’t be any Lightwoods anymore.”
“Oh,” Simon said.
“There would have been if…Max,” She stopped.
He put his arms around her.
“From what you told me, he was a smart kid,” he told her. “So, surely he would have changed his name into something flashier. Like Thunderstorm or Nightraven.”
Isabelle chuckled reluctantly.
“There is always going to be a Lightwood somewhere,” he said softly. “You are a stubborn bunch.”
“Always?” She asked.
“Well, technically Magnus is a Lightwood too,” he explained. “So, yes. Always.”
She suddenly looked sad then. But as Simon knew, about something else, entirely.
“Hey,” he shook her slightly in his arms. “If you want, our children could take your last name. Just yours.”
Isabelle looked genuinely surprised at that.
“When I was at the academy, I did research into all your families. Mostly because I was bored but partly because of there were some dope gangsters back then. But there was this one woman. An ancestor of Clary. Charlotte. Charlotte Fairchild.”
“The first female counsel,” Izzy smiled.
“Total badass,” Simon nodded. “Did you know she decided to let her children carry her name instead of her husband’s? She got the clave to accept that. Talk about power moves.”
“She is incredible,” Isabelle agreed. “Do you know Alec is lowkey obsessed with her?”
“Your brother continues to have good taste in power babes,” Simon chuckled. “But my point is…If you want to do that…If you want our kids to have your name, we can do that.”
“You would do that for me?” Isabelle asked, her eyes wide.
“Izzy,” he said. “There is literally nothing I wouldn’t do for you.”
“Hmmm,” she and rested her head on his arm. “Thank you, Simon.”
She sounded okay.
“Are you feeling better now?” He asked. “Identity crisis averted?”
“I don’t know,” she shrugged. “Maybe I should think about it at dawn.”
He smiled and kissed her again.
“You know what you should do? You should talk to Jace.”
“Jace?”
“He has a certificate course in identity crisis,” Simon pointed out. “And a diploma in last name dilemma.”
Isabelle laughed then. And he was glad. Even if it was at Jace’s expense.
“I’ll do that,” she said and rolled back to her side of the bed. “Thank you, my love.”
“Now let’s get back to sle…Oh no!”
“What is it?” Izzy asked urgently.
“My warm pillow,” Simon held it up. “It’s cold now.”
Isabelle laughed again and stretched her hand.
“Get in here,” she said and Simon suddenly found himself wrapped in warmth so pure that he felt asleep right away.
anyway i just think that if simon dove into fantasy worlds as a way to cope with the grief and heaviness after his father died, and followed clary so readily into a real-life fantasy world in part because of his affinity for them, and then forgot about the reality he found among the fantastical, and then was reintroduced and found a new family that he established formative memories with only to lose one of those new cornerstone members of his life just as he's claiming the fantasy world as his own.. where is he to go from there. he can't escape back into reality when the reality of grief has caught up with him, here in this world so like the ones he'd learned to hide in as a kid.
when tf did i become a jimon shipper
Thoughts on the mundanes simon knew looking at simon post shadowhunters academy? His old friends, the tmi band? Someone outside of his old group?
i feel like eric, kirk, and matt would view the differences in a similar way to how they viewed his vampire glow up. less surprised and more impressed, and they would definitely use his tattoos and new musculature as fodder for their friendly banter lol but i also think they would have been teasing him about him coming back from the military academy all buff before he even left for it (and maybe make fun of him for going through two years of training and not becoming more buff than he does hehe lovingly and jokingly of course). tho the tattoos were definitely a badass surprise.
[insert side discussion about whether simon tells the band about being a shadowhunter despite the rules bc (a) he remembers their reaction to his downworlder status, (b) the origins of their band name, (c) the reality of them playing at the pandemonium club ...]
the thing is too, it's not just the physicality. i've said before that i don't think simon's thin frame would allow him to become properly buff, and i don't think that's the thing people will notice right away. they may attribute it to that, like the barista at java jones might do a double take when he sees simon walk in for the first time since returning to brooklyn, or some girls from st. agnes might gossip about it if they see him at a tmi show or in the neighborhood or something, but i really think the biggest difference comes in the way he holds himself. the confidence he's gained, the shit he's seen. hell i mean.. it's not just the shadowhunter academy that he's been through when he comes back, it's also all the fucked up shit that happened in fall of 2007 and the brutal death of his best friend. boy's been through it. and how can that not show? especially toward the beginning. when he's grappling with returned memories and grief. but he's also so much more sure of himself than he was before. he has solid girlfriend and when he talks to people, there's an air of authority or belonging that wasn't there before. the shadowhunter traits that make them so easy to pick out in a crowd.
Maybe I’m just in a Sebastian mood (yuck) but what I find really interesting is that in the Clay’s edom dream when we see good Sebastian… he literally just acts like Simon.
I feel like this is a way to reference the fact Simon is the closest thing Clary will ever actually have to a brother (the only real reference she has to a healthy brother). He makes jokes like Simon, makes fun of Jace, says sarcastic jokes and likes Izzy!
I also think it’s interesting that the that snapped Clary out of Edom is the fact Simon didn’t exist!
There relationship is soo underrated but it means soooo much to me!
PLEASE share your headcannons I’m begging you. Genuinely on my knees,
i can't decide if i want to write out extensive headcanons for rebecca lewis, or if i just want to wait until the brainworms take over and force me into writing a 30k character-defining fic about her
my toxic tmi trait is that i only care for simon and i hate everyone else in the series because they all have mistreated simon in someway throughout the six books just because he was a mundane/vampire. and i don’t like it took simon sacrificing himself for most of them to realize he was worth something and i think they should hate themselves a little more for how they treated the dude who ended up saving them from edom <3
I think Maryse would act like a parent to Simon in a way that the other adults in his life never really did (besides Luke obviously). Like yes Simon is smart and charismatic and super charming, but there is a certain vulnerability he has underneath it all, and it activates her motherly instincts. Every person around her, even her children, is hardened by the shadowhunter lifestyle, but despite his experiences Simon has maintained his sensitivity. It reminds her of max.
On Rebecca, she is an absolute force to be reckoned with. She’s a parentified older sister who practically raised Simon, took care of their mother, and had to grieve her father at the same time, the epitome of strength. She is incredibly protective (I also headcannon that Simon was a victim of bullying in school, and that Rebecca was the scary older sibling who fought off the mean kids). She would get on with Alec very well, they’re similar in the way they carry themselves and protect their siblings. Jace would be petrified of her, she’s one of the only people whose determination and forcefulness can combat his and win. She could absolutely wipe the floor with him in an argument, and it scares him.
I love the headcannon that Izzy never truly forgives Elaine for her actions, it mirrors the relationship Becky and Elaine have because of how she was after their father died. I like to think that it’s maryse who advises simon on how to deal with his mother, having been in her shoes, and that when things are particularly bad between the two, she’ll always somehow know exactly what to say.
any thoughts on how Simon and Isabelle will be around their in laws, I know we got to see a bit of it in the later books but would love to hear your thoughts
anon i will take any chance to talk about rebecca lewis <33 yes, i know there are more inlaws in question, and i will get to them, but i have been dying to talk about becky hehe plus there really is so much more to explore on the lewis side--naturally, since neither elaine nor rebecca have interacted with izzy in canon (insane btw).
sidenote: i kinda love how izzy only ever grew up with brothers, but gained a sister through simon (or two really, since we really must count clary, but you know, we're talking technicalities here), and that for simon, it's the opposite.
anyway, speaking of sisters hehe i genuinely think izzy and rebecca would get along well. i think iz would be a good source of.. fun i guess? for becky. like a good reminder to let loose. and i think becky would be a good resource for izzy, someone with a bit more age and wisdom that she can go to, someone who isn't maryse. and it's not like becky would be the only one offering advice. i think izzy would remind her to put herself first sometimes, to chase what she wants and to be kinda.. undeniable i guess. and i think they would laugh together and i think they would go shopping together, despite their very different fashion senses, and i think becky would maybe make some clothes for izzy and i think they would bond over the matching simon-shaped swell in their hearts.
i think becky is a common presence at the sizzy household. movie nights or game nights, or becky-cooked dinners (she might also try train some better cooking instincts into izzy while she's at it hehe), at least for a while until life things happen etc. i also think, and i know this is thinking a decent way further down the line, but i also think she'll be one of their go-to babysitters, since i don't think she'll get settled with her own family until she's in her 30s, and because i just know she'll want to be part of every second of that.
okay okay i think i need to stop talking about rebecca now or i will end up writing a novel..
i think their relationship with elaine is a lot more.. delicate. they don't see her nearly as often. because they can't be honest about the shadow world, for one, but also because i think she still has a little bit of.. not exactly loose canon, but something akin to that, in her. i think she wishes she got to see her son and daughter in law more, but i think there's this underlying anger for izzy any time they go to elaine's place, because even though it was years ago, izzy's first introduction to her personality was still through the lens of her condemning her son and kicking him out of the house at 16. and i also think izzy's seen how that reaction has affected simon, both in the direct aftermath, and in the years after he got his memories back.
i know levi is dead and wouldn't have any sort of relationship with izzy, but i do think simon would have taken her to levi's grave at some point to introduce them anyway. maybe around their wedding?
i really don't feel like there's much to say about the lightwoods that we haven't already seen, or that can't be easily extrapolated, but in spirit of fairness..
jace and simon are very much jace and simon. it's kinda hard to imagine their relationship changing much more than it already has. the comfortability and familiarity between them, the playful jabs, etc. i do think jace has probably begrudgingly gone to simon for a second (or third after clary, ig) opinion on some plans or strategies etc. he's having to make as an institute head. and i definitely think simon has tried to teach jace dnd, and had him over to play video games more than once.
i think simon and alec's relationship goes through more change than what we've been privy to. i think they have their bonding time doing target practice or over coffee after putting the kids to bed. they talk about politics and work and the sda. they also definitely talk about jace being an idiot lol
when it comes to maryse.. bro maryse is so hard for me. their relationship with her would be much closer than that they have with elaine, of course. and i think in maryse's effort to be more present with her family, she also makes a point to have a personal relationship with simon. they don't really have all that much in common, but simon has always seemed like something of a mom charmer to me. he's funny and smart and knows how to be polite. plus he really really cares about izzy. and i think it means a lot to maryse to see that. call it projection or mother's love or a little of both, but it's nice to have that reassurance that her daughter won't have to go through what she did.
Shout out too @heronsthornx on TikTok because this is the most accurate representation I’ve seen of there friendship.
