about to drop literally the sickest insider knowledge you will ever receive pls use it responsibly:
are you a teenager? do you wish you had the space & resources & organization to do a thing, whether that's an anime club or a movie night or a big craft workshop or creative writing group or literally whatever? would you like to do your thing totally for free? yes?
okay, then bring it up to a librarian
seriously, teenagers are the absolute hardest group to engage at most libraries & we'll often organize programs that absolutely no one will show up to & it sucks. if you go up to a public librarian & say "hey, some friends & i want to do this thing. does that sound like a feasible teen program for the library?" most people will move heaven & earth to pull it off for you because we know there's an interest in our community. we will go balls to the freaking wall to make it happen
do you want a cosplay contest? a video game tournament? a free escape room? bring it up to the library. it's not a burden or an annoyance at all. it'll be like christmas came early for us
"Show, don’t tell" means letting readers experience a story through actions, senses, and dialogue instead of outright explaining things. Here are some practical tips to achieve that:
Tell: "The room was cold."
Show: "Her breath puffed in faint clouds, and she shivered as frost clung to the edges of the window."
Tell: "He was scared."
Show: "His hands trembled, and his heart thudded so loudly he was sure they could hear it too."
Tell: "She was angry."
Show: "She slammed the mug onto the counter, coffee sloshing over the rim as her jaw clenched."
Tell: "He was exhausted."
Show: "He stumbled through the door, collapsing onto the couch without even bothering to remove his shoes."
What characters say and how they say it can reveal their emotions, intentions, or traits.
Tell: "She was worried about the storm."
Show: "Do you think it'll reach us?" she asked, her voice tight, her fingers twisting the hem of her shirt.
Tell: "He was jealous of his friend."
Show: "As his friend held up the trophy, he forced a smile, swallowing the bitter lump rising in his throat."
Use the setting to mirror or hint at emotions or themes.
Tell: "The town was eerie."
Show: "Empty streets stretched into the mist, and the only sound was the faint creak of a weathered sign swinging in the wind."
Give enough clues for the reader to piece things together without spelling it out.
Tell: "The man was a thief."
Show: "He moved through the crowd, fingers brushing pockets, his hand darting away with a glint of gold."
What’s left unsaid can reveal as much as what’s spoken.
Tell: "They were uncomfortable around each other."
Show: "He avoided her eyes, pretending to study the painting on the wall. She smoothed her dress for the third time, her fingers fumbling with the hem."
Use metaphors, similes, or comparisons to make an emotion or situation vivid.
Tell: "The mountain was huge."
Show: "The mountain loomed above them, its peak disappearing into the clouds, as if it pierced the heavens."
Tell: "The village had been destroyed by the fire."
Show: "Charred beams jutted from the rubble like broken ribs, the acrid smell of ash lingering in the air. A child's shoe lay half-buried in the soot, its leather curled from the heat."
I saw you do comms? Would you be willing to draw my silly genderfluid lesbian bean?
The rainforest is very gay imo
He's a sea/rain hybrid
I hope it’s good! Very fun to draw, love the colors and iridescence.
and yes, comms (but no payment pls) and requests are always open
and yes. Rainforest is very gay. That’s why all the colors :)
I'll accept this into my head cannon
hypothetical pyrrhian beetlewing, a key ancestor to all pantalan tribes, with hivewings being their closest living relatives.
a burrowing tribe, based on ants and termites with strong front talons with tough blunt claws, known for carving entire mountains into castles. Some have a stinger with while not deadly, very painful poison
terretorial range unknown, but their tunnels seemingly undermine the entire continent.
they ususally come in dark shades of brown, grey and black, and shimmer green or purple in the sunlight, sometimes a faint striped pattern is visible
last known queen: queen jade, accompanied by her sister lady agate
Shout out to the time I attempted to photoshop together a hyperrealistic SeaWing and it was the most horrifying thing I’d ever made.
I also made a hyperrealistic HiveWing but I think I should keep that one to myself. Lotta bugs.
Uhhh I’m still chipping away at my Indigo design. I think I’ll do a piece with her and Fathom.
Wing armor!
I tried keep the armor fairly minimal to avoid adding too much weight to the wings. People have suggested covering the wing with chainmail, but i feel like the weight from that would render flight impossible or at the very least difficult. This configuration protects the most likely place to be struck by a weapon, those being the front outer edges of the wing. I’d imagine the armor can also be used sort of like a shield that can block incoming slash and such!
🐺 Happy Halloween 😈
I like Wings of Fire and Cult of The Lamb. I like to animate and I'm still struggling to find my own art style
