i prefer things second hand

my smoke, clothes, and music

sips out of drinks already enjoyed

jokes from conversations already discarded

there is comfort in shared experiences

as it simmers out some of the loneliness

the bitterness is softened

the sweetness is left

then eventually,

what once was second hand becomes yours to share again and again

me at college
