Use the words you want to use; play with language, experiment, use said, use adverbs, use “unrealistic” writing patterns, slap words you don’t even know are words on the page. it worries me so much that there’s been this (mostly unintentional) culture built up around coming out, to where young lgbt kids are putting themselves in danger at school and at home because they don’t want to “live a lie.” i just want to say, i came out when i was 15 and it created a lot of difficulties in my life that i could have avoided by waiting until i was older. it isolated me socially, it exposed me to homophobia from my parents, my family, my teachers, and my classmates at the most important developmental stages of my own confidence and sense of self… closeted people are not living a lie. closeted people are surviving. don’t let anyone pressure you to come out before you’re ready. don’t put yourself at risk when you don’t have to.

Silently you stared at your best friend, trying to absorb everything they had just told you.

“You’re……you’re certain?” You asked hesitantly.

Frantically your friend nodded, clutching tightly at their shirt as they fought back tears. The sight made your chest ache, though you couldn’t blame them for it. After all they had been through, and everything that was happening now, you were surprised they were holding up so well at all.

Letting out a shaky sigh, you rubbed your hand over your face, heart aching at the sight of their fear, their fear of you, of your reaction. Your heart only ached even more as you opened your arms to them, seeing their genuine shock at the display of acceptance. Bitterly you swallowed back your anger, wishing you could get revenge on every one who had betrayed them, but knowing that your friend needed you to be with them right now.

As they practically folded themselves into your chest, body trembling, you rubbed your hands up and down their back, absently taking in the new chill of their body, the chill that would now forever be a part of them.

“We’ll figure it out together, alright? I’m not going anywhere…. We can get through this” You promised firmly.

You pretended not to hear the rough sobs and broken thank yous they let out, as they curled even tighter into you, afraid to wrap their arms around you, like you did them. Silently you wished for every single person who turned their back on them to face retribution three fold for all they had done, wishing that you had been there to shield them from the heartbreak. 

They never deserved this.

Genuinely can’t put into words how fucking fuming I am that people are not going to see Captain Marvel because they think it’s a film about “putting down men”. She is a powerful superhero who is going to be more powerful than other male characters in the MCU, this doesn’t mean she’s putting them down. Thor is clearly a more powerful character than Valkyrie in Ragnarok but none of us have come online and said the film is sexist/puts down women, it’s just the character’s qualities. Why can’t we just enjoy this new super hero for her amazing qualities and either celebrate the fact she’s a woman, or just not let it effect you’re judgement at all until you’ve seen it. The comments I’ve seen online are honestly delirious. Genuinely people worrying that she will be, and I quote, “an unlikeble character who will use her powers to show up other men in the MCU”, so basically if she does anything powerful or cool in endgame these losers are gonna write it off as what I will assume they define as “feminist propaganda”. Honestly if anyone is thinking like this PLEASE just get a life, take the film for what it is: a superhero movie about an extremely powerful and awesome individual who, yes, will most likely be one of the most powerful additions to the MCU, shut up and enjoy it, or don’t, but don’t use gender as your reason for claiming it’s a bad film.
