My Dudes

My dudes

Don’t think of the strike as “wah i’m not getting my shows”.

Think of it as “If they don’t - I’LL NEVER GET ANY SHOWS AGAIN”.

Because, you know, they won’t be there to write them. Because they can’t eat nothing. They can’t write if they have no laptops. Or houses. Or electricity. Or paper. Or pens. Which all funnily enough cost money.

Pay them what they’re worth - or they can’t afford to keep working.

And then no one gets what they want.

I’m a faggot. I’m a dyke. I’m a tranny. I’m a crossdresser. I’m a transvestite. I’m a pervert. I’m a queer. I am everything and anything and nothing if I want to be. I am every gay, lesbian, trans, ace, bi, nonbinary, queer person that walked this earth before me and will walk this earth after me. No one and I mean no one will ever strip my identity away from me. I am alive. I am here. I am you, your friend, your relative, your coworker, your neighbour, the stranger you opened the door for. No dirty fucking bootlicker will ever get to extinguish my existence. No fucking law or legislation will ever erase me. I will scream, I will bleed, I will fight, I will riot like the elders before me did. My history is written in blood and in sex and in community and in love. I am the passion and filth and desire and hope and anger and hurt and love of all of us. You can change laws, you can silence us, you can try and fucking kill us but we will never die. We will never be erased. We will never stop fighting. You can not kill us. We are everywhere and we are filled with more rage than you can possibly fucking imagine and our love is stronger than your hatred. My brothers, sisters, siblings, fags, dykes, trannys, and all of my queers will outlive you because you can’t kill us. You’ve tried so many times and we’re still here. We will always fucking be here. You want a fight? We’ll give you a fucking riot and we will burn it all down. Fuck you.

CW: antisemitism, pale of settlement, pogroms, genocide, cultural erasure

I don't think goyim can really conceive of how much Jews actually hold back in our criticism of antisemitism in media, and when you hear us it is often because we see a dangerous message that you don't... Yet.

I have a complicated relationship with Tim Burton's rendition of The Corpse Bride. I love it as a beautiful piece of stop motion art, but it isn't what it should have been, he took a Jewish story from the Pale and with intention stripped it of its Jewish origins. This alone is incredibly antisemitic. The criticism you will hear has probably been "this is a Jewish story, it should have retained its Jewish elements" but have you heard why we feel strongly about this story?

CW: Antisemitism, Pale Of Settlement, Pogroms, Genocide, Cultural Erasure

The story of the corpse bride is incredibly important to me and was born from Jewish trauma and Christian violence. Mobs would routinely attack Jewish weddings, they would murder brides and they would bury them in unmarked graves by the roadside still in their wedding clothes, they reasoned that without Jewish wives there are no Jewish mother's. Jews are intrinsic to the story.

It is antisemitism to take our story, about our pain, at the hands of non-jews and strip it for "useful" parts, in fact it is heartbreaking every time.

We are often forced to pick our battles and fighting a battle over a movie that has already been released by a director with a cult following is not worth it, you only hear us speak up in numbers when the antisemitism may lead to another century of violence, because raising our voice means picking a fight, because so many of you already see our pain as inconvenient and it is exhausting to never be heard.

character who is sun-coded but not in the traditional ray-of-sunshine way. character who is sun-coded in the sense that they burn hot and bright and powerful, that they're a raging fury of fire and passion, and that maybe, just maybe, they are destroying themselves as they do so.

there's been a lot of obnoxious pop history trends in the last few years but the bizarre total sanitization of vikings/pirates has to be one of the worst. like sorry to the queer neopagan anarchy symbol in bio twitter user community but like. are you aware both vikings and pirates enthusiastically traded slaves

First, there was Chambers in 2019. Mostly Native cast (remaining cast was still very diverse), told the story of a Navajo main character, axed by Netflix despite a large following and fanbase.

Then, Trickster in 2020/2021. Mostly Native cast once again (remaining cast was still very diverse), told the story of a Haisla main character, axed by CBC despite a large following and fanbase.*

Then, The Wilds earlier this year. Two Indigenous main characters (Martha and Toni) (other cast was still very diverse), super important show to those in the Indigenous community (including myself), axed by Amazon Prime despite a large following and fanbase.

Now, Rutherford Falls. Mostly Native cast once again (remaining cast was still very diverse, including a non-binary Chinese-American character), told the story of a Native plus-sized woman main character (tribe is Minishonka, though that is a fictional tribe made up for the show), axed by Peacock despite a large following and fanbase.

TV, and especially streaming, execs really don’t give a fuck about Indigenous representation and Indigenous people at all.

(Safe to reblog, btw)

*I understand that Trickster is complicated by Michelle Latimer being involved in Trickster, but she could have been replaced, I watch SVU and they’ve had 6 different showrunners over the years. CBC just didn’t give a fuck to find someone else, instead they just canceled the show.

The thing blue state leftists don’t seem to understand about red states is that telling minorities to “just leave” is really insidious. That is exactly what the republicans want. They want to make their state so miserable and dangerous and scary for everyone who isn’t a conservative cisgender heterosexual white Christian that those people leave. Leave behind their family, their homes, their friends, their jobs, their community, the places they’ve lived their entire life. With every person who leaves it is one less gay person teaching their children, one less person protesting outside the capitol, one less blue voter trying to stop the place they call home from sliding into fascism.

Many of us cannot afford to ‘just leave’ and many of us don’t want to because contrary to popular belief, North Carolina isn’t an irredeemable shithole with nothing to offer and no sense of community. People do leave red states for their safety but that does not fix the underlying problem, that doesn’t even make the problem better.

You may think it cruel but when a white witch pisses me off I go through her etsy listings for native bird feathers and forward it to fish and wildlife services

The epidemic of young queers ignoring or cherrypicking queer history is really biting us all in the ass because Montana just tabled the bill that banned trans and gay panic, and many of the younger queers I’ve come across have no idea what gay panic really is, or what that means.

All they know about gay panic is the “Oh my gosh! I talked to a pretty girl/boy and I’m a girl/boy hehe so flustered” that at some point replaced the actual meaning of gay panic. Do you know how dangerous this is, that they don’t know of the dangers of trans and gay panic? It’s lethal.

As things in the US become more dire for the queer community, I’m begging the young queers: read up on queer - our, your - history. Talk to your elder queers. Really look into current politics surrounding the queer community. Don’t get all your info from social media, and absolutely do not take what you see on social media at face-value. Get yourself educated and prepared for what’s to come. It’ll save lives, I promise you.
