(aight before i send this please know that this is in no way trying to rush u back into drawing faster pls respond at ur leisure and when ur hands give u the ok) so i'm a massive fan of tpoh, and i really want to draw some human rgb, but i'm having trouble with his face. being an amateur artist, i'm kind of bad at drawing different face shapes, and my main issues are his jaw, cheekbones, and nose. i'm just bad at drawing them from different angles. any tips for drawing this boye?
that’s okay man I have trouble drawing him too! it’s so weird, considering he’s my own character but hey- the best help I can give is to tell you he was designed to look like Buster Keaton crossed with David Bowie, and a long time ago when TPoH was still in baby stages I admitted this difficulty and this plan and an anon told me to use ‘morph’. which resulted in this-
which is, astoundingly, pretty much exactly what I envisioned but couldn’t draw. I make him look a little more tired and exaggerate the triangular eyebrow thing but like, yeah! give him more bonkers curly hair and that’s The Lad
EDIT: golden addition to this post-
Seeing RGB stand next to actual people is bizarre, not because of the TV head, but because RGB being called a shortass 5′5″ boi and standing next to big ol’ creature folks has caused me to mentally imagine RGB as much shorter than he actually is.
like, i don’t know why i expected this:
it’s funny because i’m the same height as him, so I know EXACTLY how tall 5′5″ is, and that it’s not that terribly short, but this is what i mentally see
lil btch energy, you know?
My music and aesthetic will make 10000 references to this beautiful yet tragic man and I will make sure of that
the thing about jay gatsby is that despite everything you still wanna be him soooooooo bad
how did you create a character who kidnaps a child, who is blatantly rude and callous and ambiguous and in a lot of ways untrustworthy so... likeable? I don't find RGB creepy or sleezy at all and I love him even though he's a cad and I feel like he must be a good person or at least I really want him to be one and I don't understand how? I've seen people invent characters who are cool or mysterious that just come off as 'ew' and boring...
Well, first of all thank you so much for being so kind and loving the character so much :’D but I’m really glad you feel that way, because I really wanted RGB to be a grounding character in the story. You don’t know anything about him, but there is something about him that you immediately empathize with; because he is vulnerable. As weird and enigmatic as he is, I’ve wanted from the start to portray someone who is terribly insecure, someone flawed and lost but who is trying to cover that fact up. He’s someone who can be hurt, has been hurt, and is afraid of being hurt. In a lot of ways RGB is one of the most human characters I’ve ever made.
