I wanted to write about every Marty movie I've seen. And I thought I'd start with the Father of Bride movies but now all I can think about is Captain Ron 🤦‍♀️ So here we go.

I'm pretty sure that I've seen it with my parents somewhere in the 90s. My dad rented movies every week for us and this is one I always remembered. I haven't seen it in well... more than 25 years. Three weeks ago I've watched it for the first time since then. And yesterday happened something that hasn't happened to me in a looooong time. I didn't want to go to sleep and I REWATCHED a movie I've already seen a few days/weeks ago. I haven't done that since the early 00s. I just wanted to look at Marty for one and a half hour. Look at him and forget the shitty world outside. And it worked. The movie started and I was gone.

I love the intro scene. That little man in this biiiig coat walking through many people on their way to work with such a great soundtrack in the background. Everything screams "Those were the 90s!!" and I love it so so much.

We now learn that Martin Harvey inherits a boat which he wants to sail to Miami with his family. We meet his family and then we see the boat. Of course it's in a bad shape. Again: "90s movies rule!!!"

Captain Ron aka Kurt Russell enters the scene.

In that scene my wife entered our living room and constantly shook her head. Well not constantly but every now and then 😂

Now the journey begins and we see a lot of family fun, slapstick moments (which I like a lot when Marty does them) and a naked Marty which I like more than a lot (I received a loving and teasing "Uuuuuh!" instead of a headshake from my wife).

I have to admit that I love this movie. I laughed a lot and I like the characters. The humour gets me. I like it when Marty runs against things or falls.

Bonus: a wet Marty. Always a pleasure.

I don't think that I watched it for the last time 🥰

And honestly so does Oliver. Right? Some of these are stereotypes but they’re all accurate. He’s a

• rich

• theater director

• who went to lots of massive glitter orgies in the 70s

• who, for someone his age, seems very well versed in the language/culture of queer ppl (or better than Charles anyway lol)

• and didn’t have a close relationship w his father

• and uses typically “feminine” nicknames for ppl he cares abt (he calls his son/other family members honey, sweetie, etc)

When Mabel came out to them he immediately got it and then made fun of Charles for being confused lol I don’t think he realizes tho bc he is still old so when he was growing up, it was very taboo and there wasn’t as much language/labels to describe these feelings, even within the community. He either hasn’t identified his feelings as romantic or assumes everyone feels that way so he’s never really cared abt it

guys i cant stop thinking about the Robin Williams film The Birdcage and how its considered a comedy. THAT SHIT MADE ME CRYY.

Albert and Armand are willing to change their entire life to bend to the will of their PRICK of a son. they love him so much and at NO POINT in that movie does he show any appreciation for his LOVELY PARENTS. and dont even get me started on agador, he TELLS val that he will fall if he wears shoes and that he cant cook and then when both of those things prove themselves true val has the audacity to be pissed off.

New Kotie model I'm working on!

*Koties are fantasy/fictional felines from my personal story/lore.

It includes the skeleton, muscles, and the whole Kotie in flesh and skin, which is based on them. I used the northern Kotie as a model this time, so this one has some large paws :)

This definitely took a lot more time and effort than the simpler method with just sculpting all the muscles (like I did in all my previous models; link to my previous Kotie model), and shrinkwrapping the skin to the muscles was really a challenge for both me and blender (maybe there are easier ways to do this, but I worked intuitively from my crazy idea, just as I always do). But it was also very interesting!

Each bone and muscle are created as separate models (most muscles are made with curves, then sculpted a bit), which gave me the opportunity to study each of them (and to desperately search for detailed references). I did not model the internal muscles however.

The anatomy is rough and simplified in some details, and attaching all this to even the basic armature turned out to be too extreme, so not all poses work well. But it is already a great reference for the Kotie anatomy! I'm happy with the result, and modeling all this gave me some more insight into the realistic proportions and shapes of the Koties, which I have been struggling with since the very beginning of drawing and modeling them.

The final sculp is not finished yet; it needs a lot more work and has no textures at all for now, I just quickly painted some colors with Vertex Paint, to make the character feel more alive.
